it is the alternator bearing. It is no big deal. Change it only if you cant stand the noise at the rpms at real cold temps. My 2004 f150 lariat has been doing that since new and now has 130k miles. really not an issue
hey thats what my 97 f150 does and my dads 05 F150 im come to the conclusion that its the alternator bearings from what ive been reading on the forums.
@dbn0922 I haven't found out exactly what causing this but some people i know told me it was probably the alternator rear bearing. They said it's a common problem with all F150 that have some wear. :o(
My 06' 4.6L does it occasionaly. Now I know lol

I have the same frickin noise in my 04' F-150 Lariat! Did you find out what was the problem or does anyone else know what that is?
