As Julie got older and her technique was no longer effortless, she discovered how to use acting to her advantage. While the set and costumes might not be to everyones liking, her performance is amazing. She is my first ballet teacher's daughter, so I may be biased, but I don't see how you could possibly say her acting is vulgar!

Bathilde: - Why are you dressed like that?
Albretch: - This? Oh, I wasn't thinking!
Hilarion shows no emotion whatsoever during the mad scene.
La "douce folie" is nowhere to be seen.

Yes, it's not "a soft madness", her acting looks too excessive, vulgar, I'ld say, but at least she's acting more interesting than dancing.
