  • It's going to sound a little different than the original Southern P5's, because those were P12345 (all bells forward), whereas this one is a P135R24. The doppler effect and sound compression (due to the moving train) make the two types of horns sound different, even though they have the exact same bells.

  • Nickel Plate line, right?

  • Yep, this is the former NKP Fostoria District

  • NICE P135R24!

  • Yeah, it sounded pretty good. That's one of the better P135R24 horns that I've heard during the almost seven years that I've been railfanning. I was surprised to see that this horn was slapped on a 9800-series Catfish, I didn't think that they mixed horns around on the newer Catfish units. It was funny, because I noticed that the headlight was burned out on this one, so only the ditchlights were on LOL

    Thanks for watching!

  • @nsgevo89

Yeah, I've seen a horn swap done before. It was on NS GEVO #7504. When it was built, it had a K5HL, as of August 2009 it had a Leslie RS3L, and as of December 2009 it had a K5LA.

  • yeah it was nice

  • i wouldnt say flying thats a 40 mph track and that if either the 218 or the 217 and trains suck by the way

  • i hear that horn on the only HH SD40-2 in spartanburg. lol.

  • those horns sound simply beautiful!!!

  • YES

  • I love those horns too! They're my favorites!

  • The P5 is probably the most spectacular horn known to man.

  • were those dash 9's?

  • Yes, they were. The lead unit had a horn that you usually find on old Southern units.

  • nice vid man. fostoria ohio is the place to be for train action.

not really flying though, granted it's fast but the speed limit on Norfolk Southern crossing the C&O diamond is 35 mph. same for C&O crossing the Norfolk Southern diamond.

but it was a great catch there. keep up the good vids.

  • Thank you! Y'all can call me Joey if you want. Joey or nsgevo89, doesn't matter. :)

  • My favorite is the Nathan P135R24 horn (the one in this video). :)

  • Mine too ! That horn says SOUTHERN RAILWAY. Reminds me of visiting relatives in Harrodsburg, Kentucky (Southern - now Norfolk Southern) goes right through Harrodsburg)and watching trains - right behind my Grandma's backyard.

  • Thats my favorite too!!!

  • nice vid, What is your favorite type of horn? I am a K5LLA freak:]
