@dunnyb41 because they are our parents and we are concerned with the well being of our family. we want our siblings to be able to go to school as well.
$50,000... I gotta say that is actually pretty ridiculous. London universities tuition fee's are only £14,000 ($23,000), for international students who have to pay the full fee without it being subsidized. I always assumed the cost of living in both of these cities would be fairly similar.
and to people who constantly complain that nyu does not give financial aid...the whole point is that they give a pretty decent scholarship to kids they really want. like a kid at my school received a full ride. another kid at my school received half which is pretty darn good. so if you don't got the money then....your taking a risk i suppose
oh yea, trust me people, going to a good school doesn't guarantee an amazing career...there are many ivy league alumni at my school and they're just....teachers. but they are intelligent but being a teacher doesn't really pay much ahem
um...every top notch private university is going to be quite expensive....but i understand where they are coming from. i guess it's just a first step to complaining about america's standard of college tuition in general.
I am an 1st semester NYU student and here is my thought about New York City . New York City is the most expensive place to live but the cheapest city i've seen in my entire life. New York city lives off its people and so stingy it makes me sick. People who lives in New York always says "but its New York! It the place to be"-while they get raped in every hole they got by the city. As soon as i graduate, I'm getting the fuck outa New York. Cheap Bastards
This is a simple case of you get what you pay for. Big college campus in the heart of NYC looks like cost rates going cachin, cachin, cachin! Time to create a casting video to prepare for those job interviews and overcome the burden of debt.
I don't remember anything about Democracy that involves taking control of private property and trespassing after you've been asked to leave. You have the right to demonstrate. You have the right to take your money and go to another school. If enough of you vote with your money and your feet the school will have to listen. But the fact is there is a long list of students waiting to get into NYU and take your place.

NYU charges 50 grand a year which is very high compared to ther top colleges but its education is mediocre. Other than Stern, you can expect a prosaic education at the other schools. Personally, I think the price is so high because it is overrated and the name comes with its perks.
Pay for your own education? Parents do it out of generosity, not necessity. After all, how many students have 50 thousand right out of high school. Maybe you should look at why it's an issue instead of calling every young adult affected by the lack of affordability of universities a kid with rich parents. Last I checked, kids in the states don't have rich parents, dip wads.

it costs a lot of money to run these places, and nobody forced these kids to attend. "Forced to drop out partially because of tuition" which also means he was a fucking failure and couldn't handle it.
@ahanix1988 There ARE problems with how money matters are handled, the reaction usually to just sweep the issue under the carpet. Even up here in Canada, the president of the U of A makes about $800000 a year with no transparency as to what she does to earn it. There's inappropriate spending and poor infrastructural planning with no student benefit. That's why students are mad. Damn yuppies. Don't they know what if all of their potential employers see this, they'll never get jobs & become Hipsters or nerds living in their parents' basements?
This is what happens to a generation of misguided youth with no great wars to fight. They delude themselves into situations that do not exist in hopes of obtaining some faux status of celebrity equal to images of 60's revolt burned into the national conscience. It's not about the platform or what is right and wrong... it's about those precious 15 minutes of fame any way they can get them. America: The Greatest Show on Earth!!
@MetalPersian Yeah she is, in the link below, you can see they just touch her and she panics and screams. No one "threw her to the ground" like she claims. at 5:35
The girl at :43 is a lying idiot. If you look at the actual footage, the guards were of average size and nowhere does she hit the floor. Hysterical dumbass. If these students spent more of their time with side jobs, like other kids; then perhaps they could afford a private school.
"to get more control of our parent's money". That is fucking hilarious right there. How bout getting a job you lazy ass fuck, are you scared you're actually gonna have to work for once in your miserable lives? If they dont bitch about this, theyre gonna bitch about something else.
Our economy is in the shitter, inflation is on the rise, do these dumb fucks not understand that concept.
@subslament Yep, I saw that video to. In this video she claims the cops threw her on the ground. That is a straight up lie. Why did she lie? Becuase she was HOPING the cops would actually throw her down and when she didn't get her wish she lied to try to get simpathy. She's pathetic along with her fellow students who where there with her.
I hope she's reading this because I'd like to say she's nothing but a lying cunt.
What does democracy look like? It looks like everyone in the country thinks you kids are huge douches. Majority rules, therefore you ARE huge douches. Real democracy means that if you don't like where they are spending your money, you spend it somewhere else, idiots.
Also, that chick that was talking about getting attacked by huge guards? She bum-rushed them and they held her at bay, all while she was screaming about brutality.
@CaptainCocaine I guess she wasn't banking on her friends releasing the video they filmed inside the building just before they were thrown out, huh? You can clearly see that she wasn't touched, in fact she threw herself at security, made a stink about it, then smiled when she thought she was getting the result she wanted. God I hate how a few young people make the rest of us look.
I love how at the end buddy says "control over our parents' money" I wish my parents could afford to send me to Uni, then I wouldn't have had to work 2 shit jobs to stay in. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the students...but I mean, it's one thing if it's your own money, but you should be thankful your parents can afford to send you there in the first place.
I've never heard of that being done, sir. But, think about it - this is a 911 turbo we're talking about - you want to give it a try? I mean, hell, if it backfires I'd gladly settle for a Cayman as they are a bulletproof design that you change the oil in and drive.
Farah Kimji is such a liar. If you saw the video of the clusterfuck that was the barricade you will see her throw herself on the security guard and then scream "don't touch me". These kids are idiots.
A much different picture gets painted if you watch the video the protestors actually shot from inside the building. That girls that got "thrown to the ground by three huge guys?" Yeah, the video shows her freaking out out of nowhere, saying first someone "put his hand on her shoulder." Then someone "shoved her towards the balcony." And she's accusing guys the same size as her.
Duncan dropped out because of his grades because he's clearly a fucking retard.
It is hilarious how serious they get when they clearly have NO idea what's going on and are trying to act as victimized as possible. Everyone should watch "the painful last minutes of the NYU occupation" or whatever the title was. Hilarious and sad.
Yeah this is so fucking pathetic. I love at the end with the guy complaining about tuition costs goes, "They've been using that for years and years to get control over our parents money."
after reading your posts, I have an impression that the "owner" of NYU got few different accounts and was desperately defending himself. Students are supporting 50 000$ per year for education? no, I can't believe it.
@virtual7insanity No, we're just not supporting the way these whiny kids are behaving. No one likes the high tuition fees, but this is a private university that owes nothing to the general public...not to mention these people were clearly exaggerating judging by this watch?v=_Q6KAg6qEGY
@AserHapi really? then why the hell professors in that fkin private collage are so dumb and know nothing? or high tuition and private collage and prestige means having stupid professors? ... hm... or 50 000 a year is a reasonable price for the college, which has dumb political sciences professor who thinks that US should trust Russia and kiss russian ass? I have to pay 50 000$ to be taught that? are u serious?
@virtual7insanity like I said, NYU is not publicly owned and therefore owes you or the general public nothing. I definitely don't condone their high fees or whatever the rest of your rant was about, but if you don't like it simply don't go there instead of bothering everyone else like these whiny brats
@AserHapi who you think you are to tell me what to write and when? do you own NYU? so shut up. this is my personal point of view and if you claim that it's a free country and we live in democracy, than please cope with it and realize that we all have equal rights to express ourselves, and my opinion, like I said is, that even though NYU is private, still it's too high tuition, especially if we take into consideration the fact that professors and their methodology sucks there.. exla gajma
@virtual7insanity I'm sure it doesn't cost much to maintain housing and employ staff/faculty in the city of Manhattan. It's cheap to live there, right?
@AserHapi u know what.... fuck this liberal bullshit and fuck your liberal private schools.... I am not that fool to pay u money for the worst education in the world. and your fuckin liberal-democrat ideas.
so basically these "students" are complaining about the high tuition fee at a private university centered in the middle of New York that offers some pretty nice post-secondary education... hhhhhhmmmmmmmm wasting parents' money much?
@ghdtjdqhd it offers shit. I was taking classes there and my Kingsborough Community College professors were so much better. nothing special. just a fkin name.
What the hell is that girl talking about? I saw the video, she walks in the door through a group of police and starts screaming her head off. Apparently one of the officers grabs her shoulder because another cop tries to calm her down and she just goes off again, morons.
I don't want to pay anything for school.. so I guess this video shows I can incite a Riot somewhere just because I'm a tool that wants to have an idiotic lie shown on the news. Thank you all for showing me why I hate college kids. Please chose to join the real world and be useful to society.
In Australia its alot easier to get gorvernment assistance for education and I think its pretty unusual for anyone to be paying as they study at University. Basicly anyone who gets in the 90%(which is no easy feat) in their final year of education at Hig School goes to Uni and doesnt pay a cent until the graduate and start working. The threshold is much lower for other courses that arent in high demand and there are options for ppl who cant pass the threshold as well which cost less money.
I support them. Fees should always be made public so you can KNOW you aren't being cheated out. That woman representing the school is also really obnoxious. Like she even needs to tell the camera what has already been stated earlier in this news video. Why can't she look at the camera? Can she not remember her lines?
over $50000 a year?? tuition ONLY? excluding living costs?? o.o I WAS considering myself to get into NYU but... not anymore, i think. lol. I'm still in uni right now, (university of newcastle australia) and it costs me $50000 for 3 years man.. 3 years.. and UON is a private uni.
It's a good question. Where is the money going? Why is the tuition so high? When I went to NYU, the tuition, at the full rate, was $3200 a year. My apartment in the Village was $180 a month. In 34 years, the costs are up more than 10x. And yet inflation hasn't been that high, supposedly.

Ok you twats, go to the capitol building and look at the representatives entering the building. That's about as close as you'll get to seeing "democracy". NYU is a private university. If you can't understand the difference between public and private orginizations then you should all drop out now because your "parent's money" is going nowhere
@whenhen I don't know why parents' money is in quotes, but regardless, a organization's being private or public has nothing to do with the political system with which they make managerial decisions. So your own money at your community college is actually going nowhere.
I'd have to say that NO ONE at nyu was really behind these kids. When they were faced with getting kicked out, they started to back down from their claims. Kind of showed how weak the spirit behind it all was.
It's not that these students are poverty stricken or lazy. They're protesting the fact that NYU has the highest cost of tuition, yet displays very little return in the form of quality of the school. Some people suggest that NYU devotes a significant amount of its finances to offsite campuses (i.e. Abu Dhabi)
Wow so much effort for money that isn't even yours... poor little rich kids... maybe if they had JOBS and had to pay for things themselves they wouldn't engage is such retarded behavior... ohh btw I go to NYU and its MY money
Protesting peacefully, even wildly, within reason, is a valid expression of one's free will as protected by our governing Constitution. Protesting inanely and blathering on about 'the sensitivity of cost' is imbecilic.
1:32, "Our parents' money?" I'm sorry, any kid privileged enough to be spending his parents money at school has no right to complain. I'm 17 and financially responsible for a $250k education on my own. It's an investment in the most important thing in this world: self. Recognize?
Hardly anyone does. They don't do merit scholarships, they offer what's called "need-blind" which basically evaluates your fiscal ability to match tuition. I have about 40% in scholarships, aid, and grants, and the rest this year is a loan. Next year's total aid package percentage should be significantly higher. Education is worth it, at least to me.
Hm. I'm a current NYU freshman, and I have a strong opinion on this. Is it madly expensive? Without a doubt. I don't know a single person whose tuition is below $52k; Tisch kids pay $60k annually. Is it overpriced? No; it's altogether impossible to put a value on an intangible like education. I'm a Sternie. Yeah, I pay for a $250k education, yet I'm virtually guaranteed 6 figures a year after undergrad alone.
You choose to go there, you choose to incur the costs. Be reasonable and intelligent.
Why thank you. Yet another uninformed random running his mouth again. You must be from CAS, hm. Tip -- read the Forbes review once or twice and find the statistics.
Thanks. You don't even have an undergrad business program. I got waitlisted and subsequently accepted at Wharton, notified after I paid $28,000 of my own money to attend Stern, the 4th-ranked undergrad program in the country. Maybe I'll transfer later, who knows.
I'll agree with you that NYU = New York Urinal. It isn't as genius as it's cracked up to be. I'm not very happy here. One things for sure though; at least it isn't an elitist doucheprick school like yours though. Have a great life.
Yikes sorry to say it but your really not guaranteed a six-figure salary in this economy! So your just going into a debt that you may not be able to pay right away and it will probably take a really long time to pay it off.
I'm applying to NYU this fall and have been told that I have a good chance of getting in (who knows). Anyway, if I get accepted I'll probably have to turn them down because of the cost. And this is without room and board. I'll have to go to some lame state school in NJ like Montclair. I wish I was rich or saved up enough.
My plan for NYU and I is to take the Path train everyday to Greenwhich Village and do homework in Washington Square Park and pretend I go to the NYU.
I dont get this: If you don't like the way NYU rolls... DONT GO THERE!
It's a private university. It doesn't owe you anything. YOU chose to go there and pay all that excessive tuition and it was up to you to figure out their terms.
Exactly. I went there and I had no problem with it. I always hated the kids that felt like they had to follow causes to be trendy. NYU offers soooo much more than other schools and anyone that wants to pay less can go to any of the other cheaper schools in NYC.
they should definitely publish a public budget sheet easily accessible and available to the public. i understand their point of view. i feel as though with great understanding of the fiscal policy it can and will immensely affect & have control with the decision making involving the changes needed for the academia.
I have saved up thousands of dollars since 8th grade, working my ass off because I want to go to NYU, This makes me sick to watch, get a job, work hard, and you can afford the school, college is something people have to work for, it is NOT a right.
Of coarse its not a right to go there. You must EARN a scholarship to go there, thats why! They dont really expect everyone to pay the 50,000 it takes to go there smart one. (sarcasim implied)
They're ultra- liberal college students. As such, they believe that having a job means that they're "Selling out to the Establishment" or something. Plus, most of them probably have trust funds from their rich, coddling parents to get tehm all the money they need.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I HATE THIS SCHOOL SO FUCKING MUCH. God I want to burn this place down so FUCKING bad. Fuck this place. Really, Sexton should get a shotgun and shoot himself for creating this abomination.
@darren yep. getting into a great school doesn't mean getting your life in a right track you wanted. when you enter the working world, school doesn't guarantee you to get a job that is worth the money you spent for education. they only guarantee the company that their students are eligible for training. that means.. spending a lot on education does not always mean getting a lot from your future job too. there is a harvard graduate works at BK earning $900 a month
Hello, a high school called Fort Erie Secondary School
may suspend a student named Camaren for posting on the school's
Youtube page. He posted "Camaren is awesome" And may get suspended for this.

"Show me what democracy looks like!"
Ok you twats, go to the capitol building and look at the representatives entering the building. That's about as close as you'll get to seeing "democracy". NYU is a private university. If you can't understand the difference between public and private orginizations then you should all drop out now because your "parent's money" is going nowhere
whenhen 1 year ago
@whenhen I don't know why parents' money is in quotes, but regardless, a organization's being private or public has nothing to do with the political system with which they make managerial decisions. So your own money at your community college is actually going nowhere.

It's not that these students are poverty stricken or lazy. They're protesting the fact that NYU has the highest cost of tuition, yet displays very little return in the form of quality of the school.
Recognize?
TheBenergizer 2 years ago 4
I also seriously doubt you have $250,000 to pay for NYU!
Dicklle34 2 years ago
Hardly anyone does. They don't do merit scholarships, they offer what's called "need-blind" which basically evaluates your fiscal ability to match tuition. I have about 40% in scholarships, aid, and grants, and the rest this year is a loan. Next year's total aid package percentage should be significantly higher. Education is worth it, at least to me.
TheBenergizer 2 years ago
TheBenergizer 2 years ago
Not sure where you're getting the 6-figure claim from, but I would be surprised if I didn't see you begging on the streets in a couple of years.

runpoochrun 2 years ago
TheBenergizer 2 years ago 3
Yikes sorry to say it but your really not guaranteed a six-figure salary in this economy! So your just going into a debt that you may not be able to pay right away and it will probably take a really long time to pay it off.
