I'm selling a factory sealed (new) copy of this CD on eBay right now. Its on a 10 day auction and finishes on 12th February. Grab it whilst you can...these are very rare.
I would like to see a trilogy done of the Last Starfighter. The first movie can be called 'Starfighter' and be centered on how Xur defected and joined up with the Kodan Empire, how the Gunstar ships were created, the deployment of the Frontier and Centurai's creation of the Starfighter sims. Then towards the end of the movie you could have the events first part of the original movie start to take shape with Centurai going to find Alex and the command center being destroyed.
Cont: Then that would leave just one Gunstar left for Alex and Grig and that would step up the next movie which would be called 'The Last Starfighter.' This movie can be focused on Alex coming to terms with the decision that he has made, fighting the Kodan empire, and destroying the Armada. Again, you can keep the elements of the original film with Xur being defeated, but not killed. Also with Alex deciding to remain a Starfighter and taking Meg back to Rylos with him.
Finish: The last movie could be called Starfighter 3: The Revenge (or) Return of Xur. In this film you could see the Gunstar fleet being rebuilt based off of the prototype Gunstar Alex and Grig used. You also could have Xur forging an alliance with a new and more powerful enemy to hasten his conquest of Rylos. You also could have Alex's younger brother Lewis join the fleet as a Starfighter and maybe even have Meg as one. I haven't worked out an ending yet for this film. Any ideas?
@D2Kprime I think the movie should be called Starfighter: Avenger. I don't think Meg should be a Starfighter, seeing as she never so much as played the game and we were led the beleive that being a Starfighter was a one in a billion thing (Even though it boiled down to just being a gunner)
@weldonwin : You have to remember that after Zor had the base destroyed there weren't any Starfighters left and only the Gunstar Prototype. So it's not exactly a situation where you get what you want. You need to take what you can get. Especially if Zor finds another ally. Not to mention that she could be a pilot in a Gunstar like Grig rather than a gunner.
@whitemanstand72 : I originally suggested that Meg train and become a Starfighter as well so yes I do want female Starfighters. As far as the 3rd movie title, it's not necessary to use 'revenge' or 'return' in the title. The whole synopsis I typed several months ago was just something I did on the fly. I didn't have time to sit around an think of an appropriate title. 5 movies is too much. A trilogy is good enough. Keep it short and sweet and have some finality.
Cont: Having Guest as Xur would be interesting, but I'd rather seem him play the role of Centurai. Having Lance Guest play Xur would be like having Mark Hamill play Emperor Palpatine in a Star Wars Original Trilogy remake. Granted Hamill would do an excellent job playing Palpatine due to his work as 'The Joker' in the Batman: Animated Series and games, but it's too much of a slap in the face to what he accomplished as Luke Skywalker, and think having Guest as Xur would feel the same.
Finish: But I do agreed that any new Starfighter film should have Lance Guest involved somewhere. Like how Leonard Nimoy was involved in J.J. Abrams "Star Trek." By the way, how do you think would be the right director for a Starfighter trilogy. If Abrams wasn't busy with Star Trek I would nominate him. Maybe an up and comer.
@D2Kprime THe director is a hard one Maybe Ronald D moore but I need to have a hard think on that. Abrams is good but ....hmmm another hard one. Nicolas Mayer perhaps and have a hint of Gary Kurtz :D ?
@whitemanstand72 : Nick Meyer was responsible for the two best Star Trek movies of the original series (Wrath Of Khan and Undiscovered Country) so he would be a good choice. Not sure he would want to though.
@D2Kprime No thats where I disgree I think Lance CAN pull it off so effectivily enough for Sci-fi haters to watch LAst STar fighter. I have seen him in documanetary and his has this calm , cool voice that is soooooooo perfect as a villain. The Xur in the LAst STar fighter (1984) was kinda corny like how one of the Kodan Commander reminds him that controllng an empire needs more than handling a staff. The Xur that I'm think doesn't get insults because he is feared and evil.
@whitemanstand72 cond, AS for "the Slap on the face" they are professional actors they are paid for the characters they act in. It doesn't matter. Maybe a few very Hardcore Star Wars FAn may raise an eyebrow for MArk Hamill as the empreror or spock planing an attck on earth in start trek but LAnce Guest ?......he is pretty much an unknown to a lot of people so to put as a villain would be great chance.
@whitemanstand72 cond. ANother Idea is have Xur has his own Gunstar. A modified upgrade refit Gunstar which is more stealther that gose up against Alex and Grig head to head near the end. just like the film Firefox or at the end of Topgun. This Gunstar is similar in shape and desgine but its function is more greater than the average Gunstar. the different in the gunstar is oke the difference in the Tie sries liek Tie inter. Alex and Gring is more robust whilst Xur is sleak and stealtheir, -
@whitemanstand72 : Yes. There should be a ship comparable to the Gunstar and it should be more powerful in some ways than the Gunstar in order for there to be a struggle.
@whitemanstand72 : As far as I know Lance Guest has never been cast in such a role so there really is no outward reason to cast him as Xur, but if they did it would be a slap in the SF fans. We don't need directors screwing up stuff from the 80s anymore be intentionally spitting in the faces of fans. Got enough of that crap with Transformers and G.I. Joe. I say either have Guest as a face (good guy) or leave him out totally and bring in a new, young cast.
@whitemanstand72 : Xur's personality was the exact opposite of that. He was loud, manaical, arrogant, brash, and rather annoying. Almost like a spoiled rich-kid. I don't have a problem with seeing Lance Guest play a villain somewhere, but Xur is not the role and I already explained why.
@D2Kprime I think theres alot to be told about LSF (the LAst STar fighter) like why the Ko-Dan empire went against Rylos whats the back story and that.
@whitemanstand72 Having it short is what I'm afraid of...a saga like the LAst STarfighter has a lot of story to tell like the Ko-dan empre , Xur his story Alex and grid , after defeating Xur invading forces , ALex in traing new fighetrs and recruiting some from earth. Wht do earth govt think about their reaction. However I don't ant it o becaome to cheesy like Star gate series.
@D2Kprime well we can leave out revenge and return ..I want to see a story that is original best as possible. Leave Star Wars alone totally I loved to lance guest as the villain Xur. I post stuff later on my ideas.
An overlooked little grade B sci fi gem. I wish films like this and other classic '80's films got more play time on tv. Think of some of the forgotten classics...films like Young Sherlock Holmes, Gotcha!, Buckaroo Banzai, Explorers...They could build an entire channel out of forgotten classic '80's films. Heck, I'd buy it.
@Jonwood74 There was a channel like that, its was the Sci-Fi channel, before it became Sy-Fy and they started playing nothing but straight to DVD garbage by the Asylum
Greetings, Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada. Get ready!! Prepare for Blastoff!!
This is one of the best Space movie themes composed. It's up there with the likes of Star Wars themes. The theme itself excites me and somehow makes me want to go on <extraordinary space journeys.
@JFSChannel A remake is what they should be doing and not a sequel over 25 years later- kids now will not even be able to remember the original. People that were little children when the original had come out are now old enough to be parents of their own children. I think making a sequel to "Tron" 27 years later could work because it starred a big hit named Jeff Bridges. There is no one that was a big hit in the original "Last Starfighter" except Robert Preston- and he died over 20 years ago.
@smeghead666 Well, I do not see why a sequel needed to wait to be made over 25 years later. They should have done it just a few years after the original when the first story was fresh on the minds of all the fans. A sequel usually does not seem right when it stars completely different actors- especially if they are replaying characters. I would not want to see a sequel to Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford or a sequel to Rambo without Sylvestor Stallone. This would be better off as a remake.
@JLC31383 a remake isn't going to be any different since it'll need totally different actors too, no one who saw the original will want to see the same plot done again by different people as it was already done quite perfect.
A sequel would very easily be able to stand alone as a solid film by itself or for those who saw the original it make a brilliant extension of the story, a remake would just be naff as it wouldn't retain the magic of the original, who wants to see the same story twice?
@smeghead666 That is a good question for any movie that is getting a remake- but filmmakers are doing them anyway. I just think they waited way too long to do a sequel. Imagine "The Karate Kid" that came out in 1984 not getting its sequel "The Karate Kid Part II" until 2011. The problem with that would have been that Ralph Macchio would be in his late 40's and Pat Morita has been dead for a few years now. They made the sequel just a few years later when the original story was fresh to the fans.
@JLC31383 true. but what's also true is that the remake of the original karate kid was terrrrrrrible.
I just reckon a remake would need to follow the same stoyline which would never be as good, so it calls for a different storyline, which could quite easily have reference to its birth from the original whilest still (in effect) being a standalone remake
@smeghead666 I was thinking a sequel could work only if it did a story that could be understood without seeing the first movie. The IMDb shows that quite a few of the actors who appeared in the first movie are now dead- and even the young actors are over 50 now except the one who played the little boy. It probably would have to be about a new character in the lead and possibly someone just saying something about the event in the first movie. That is what happened with all sequels to "Predator".
@JLC31383 What I've heard is that the story will be following the son of the original character, which in my opinion could go either way. I'm just hoping they have a character as awesome as Grig, cause he was baller.
@tj2214 I thought they were going to do it where the little brother is grown up now and the older brother ends up getting killed off so the younger one can take his place as the new Starfighter. I was against that when I read it because I think it would be a shame to kill off Alex Rogan. But I would not mind there being a story where the little boy from the first movie now as an adult is the new guy to go out and fight battles in space. That would actually be better to me than his son doing it.
@weldonwin I was thinking they should do something like that. It would make sense for a 50-year-old Lance Guest to reprise his former role of Alex Rogan- but I doubt he would be in the film and some other guy would probably take over the role for him. I keep on wondering if this is actually going to happen or if it was just something planned that is now dead. I feel like the original is a classic and was meant for the time it was made. A modern movie would just not have the same kind of feeling.
@JLC31383 I get what you're saying. The original had a kind of innocence about it, the fact that Alex is such a straight up 'good kid' and the Star League are the indisputed good guys. I feel a remake or sequal would have to rewrite all of that to fit with the modern trend for a darker, more cynical presentation of the the fiction.
The music, pretty much sums it up, with that rousing, undenyably heroic score, would probably be substituted for a Danny Elfman score, to copy Batman et al
@weldonwin dANNY eLFMAN ? ARe you serious ? This is a space combat battle theme not circus jonny depp Tim burton theme. See Battle beyond the stars, anything that gets youin feel of battle nothing more.
@weldonwin Talking about Darkness how about Lance Guest as Xur. and please no Danny Elfman theres HAns Zimmers, James Horner, Bear macarthy, to name a few
@smeghead666 DUDE the reason why Karate kid was terrible its because they went all retard on it I mean come on Karate Kid - Chinese ? Since when was Karate Chines its flipping Japanese see how lazy they were even more lazy to the point of racism is balck vs Asains ? its because the producer didn't even cared but the money - we all need to work on it so idiots like them won't ruined starfighjter and give big shit about it by having money and the rights over the film. Give to people who do give
@smeghead666 So ten/twenty years later, Alex comes back to bring his little brother into the Starfighter Legion, with the Star League embroiled in its first full scale war for thousands of years
They won't make a sequel they'll remake the original with today's fx - then they'll make a sequel.
The excalibur test won't be on an old school stand up arcade game - it'll be something like a ... wait a minute - let them think it up that's what they're paid for
@waraloga7x Probably an internet game, an MMO called "Starfighter", but this time looking for actual fighter pilots rather than simply for Gunners like in the original
@waraloga7x I'd say either an MMO style online game, or perhaps something like those Motion-360 things they had in a few arcades back in the day, where you played Afterburn in a rotating chair that rolled and flipped around with the jet onscreen.
@waraloga7x I think it would be awesome to keep the old arcade cabinet - maybe have Lewis or someone keep the thing as a memento. Then a new generation comes along and finds the game, passing the test just like Alex did.
@AveAugustus Out of curiosity just where did you hear that? I have permission from Alan Dean Foster, (the author who wrote the book), to write the sequel as he does not plan to. I am only waiting for permission from the movie production company. I am currently writing the sequel though so I am curious again where you heard about the supposed sequel?
@caeldraven i`m curious how an author who wrote a book based on an original screenplay by jonathan beutel can give you the rights to make another screen play?
The information on the supposed sequel is posted by george paige associates and is mean to have mr beutel writing it.
Sweet merciful zombie fuck, but I LOVE THIS THEME SONG!
I was, what, eleven when this movie came out? Maybe ten? That was the best time to be a kid when it comes to movies; between Star Wars and this...ooh!
They don't make 'em like this anymore. It's a shame, really. But this theme, this movie...man, the memories. :)
I love this music. I downloaded it off iTunes last night from some Science Fiction album. It's not the same but it's still awesome. I work at an amusement park and I'm going to make a video montage of our spring clean-up days and put this music to it.
Movie Ballads are today's classical music. In 100 years movie themes like ET, Jaws, Terminator, The Patriot, Armageddon, and The Last Starfighter will be what we remember.

JLC31383 1 year ago
@JLC31383 What I've heard is that the story will be following the son of the original character, which in my opinion could go either way. I'm just hoping they have a character as awesome as Grig, cause he was baller.
tj2214 1 year ago
@tj2214 I thought they were going to do it where the little brother is grown up now and the older brother ends up getting killed off so the younger one can take his place as the new Starfighter. I was against that when I read it because I think it would be a shame to kill off Alex Rogan. But I would not mind there being a story where the little boy from the first movie now as an adult is the new guy to go out and fight battles in space. That would actually be better to me than his son doing it.
JLC31383 1 year ago
@JLC31383 Maybe Alex could be retired from frontline service and now acts like the Admiral
weldonwin 1 year ago
@weldonwin I was thinking they should do something like that. It would make sense for a 50-year-old Lance Guest to reprise his former role of Alex Rogan- but I doubt he would be in the film and some other guy would probably take over the role for him. I keep on wondering if this is actually going to happen or if it was just something planned that is now dead. I feel like the original is a classic and was meant for the time it was made. A modern movie would just not have the same kind of feeling.
JLC31383 1 year ago
@JLC31383 I get what you're saying. The original had a kind of innocence about it, the fact that Alex is such a straight up 'good kid' and the Star League are the indisputed good guys. I feel a remake or sequal would have to rewrite all of that to fit with the modern trend for a darker, more cynical presentation of the the fiction.
The music, pretty much sums it up, with that rousing, undenyably heroic score, would probably be substituted for a Danny Elfman score, to copy Batman et al
weldonwin 1 year ago
@weldonwin dANNY eLFMAN ? ARe you serious ? This is a space combat battle theme not circus jonny depp Tim burton theme. See Battle beyond the stars, anything that gets youin feel of battle nothing more.

Give to people who do give
whitemanstand72 5 days ago
@smeghead666 So ten/twenty years later, Alex comes back to bring his little brother into the Starfighter Legion, with the Star League embroiled in its first full scale war for thousands of years

They won't make a sequel they'll remake the original with today's fx - then they'll make a sequel.
The excalibur test won't be on an old school stand up arcade game - it'll be something like a ... wait a minute - let them think it up that's what they're paid for
waraloga7x 1 year ago 9
@waraloga7x Probably an internet game, an MMO called "Starfighter", but this time looking for actual fighter pilots rather than simply for Gunners like in the original
weldonwin 1 year ago
@waraloga7x I'd say either an MMO style online game, or perhaps something like those Motion-360 things they had in a few arcades back in the day, where you played Afterburn in a rotating chair that rolled and flipped around with the jet onscreen.
weldonwin 1 year ago
@waraloga7x something like a A full blown simulator XD
Takashii125 11 months ago
@waraloga7x fuck that shit, the original was awesome but with today's idiocracy in movie's it would suck ass, literally.
billyboy385 8 months ago
@waraloga7x I think it would be awesome to keep the old arcade cabinet - maybe have Lewis or someone keep the thing as a memento. Then a new generation comes along and finds the game, passing the test just like Alex did.

Sequel is supposed to coming in 2011
AveAugustus 1 year ago
@AveAugustus Out of curiosity just where did you hear that? I have permission from Alan Dean Foster, (the author who wrote the book), to write the sequel as he does not plan to. I am only waiting for permission from the movie production company. I am currently writing the sequel though so I am curious again where you heard about the supposed sequel?
caeldraven 1 year ago
@caeldraven i`m curious how an author who wrote a book based on an original screenplay by jonathan beutel can give you the rights to make another screen play?
The information on the supposed sequel is posted by george paige associates and is mean to have mr beutel writing it.
arkerry 1 year ago
@arkerry Well I guess that would explain why I haven't gotten permission from the movie company yet.
caeldraven 1 year ago
@AveAugustus
So... Does that make it "the second-last starfighter"?
Atlantis8100 1 year ago
@Atlantis8100 I guess so! LOL!
AveAugustus 1 year ago
@Atlantis8100 If they really make a sequel it should just be called "Starfighters".
Strideo1 1 year ago
@Strideo1 I vote for simply "Gunstar"
weldonwin 1 year ago
@weldonwin That would be awesome but not many would recognize the name.
Strideo1 1 year ago
@Strideo1 Okay, longer but I still think an awesome name; Gunstar: Legend of the Starfighters

@BionicDance it reminds me of flight of the navigator

Flight of the Navigator--and Explorers--are some of my favorite movies from the same time period...and some of my favorite music from the genre.
I miss the 80s so very, very much...

I love this music. I downloaded it off iTunes last night from some Science Fiction album. It's not the same but it's still awesome. I work at an amusement park and I'm going to make a video montage of our spring clean-up days and put this music to it.

The score to this Nick Castle film is breathtaking. Certainly a heads-up to my man J. Williams. Fantastic, cathartic, right on Craig!

Movie Ballads are today's classical music. In 100 years movie themes like ET, Jaws, Terminator, The Patriot, Armageddon, and The Last Starfighter will be what we remember.

I love this version , it's slightly sped up and has even more punch to the notes . Great Job , 5 stars.
