it does just because something has more power doesnt mean it is quicker, what he means is a yamaha will move a larger boat better then a mercury of the same hp, but mercurys deffinatily propel a boat faster.

@suzumerc321 Mercury uses the Yamaha engine. Only the lower unit is different

Nice boat. Smart choice with the 9.9hp Yamaha. Few weeks ago I bought myself a 14' Springbok Aluminum boat with a 30hp Johnson. I'm really happy with it:)

Yamaha are actually designed a lot better. The 9.9 Yamaha has more displacement than the equivalent nissan/tohatsu. Suzuki's have a lot of stress points in the engine block because the displacement is so small. Know the facts before you post another stupid comment.

that 20 wont be much faster 4 strokes only make half the power they only make power on every other revolution so it takes them much longer to reach there full HP.plus 4 strokes have allot more moving parts which adds allot of transom extra weight more weight less torque not a good combination's as your boat struggles to get on plane with that heavy 20HP your boat will begin to porpoise wildly.
