Just bought this camera. You talked of limitation #2 Exposure Will Fluctuate. Does the canon 5d markII have this problem as well? What is this caused from?
well the canon 5d costs thousands more than the Nikon d90. all of the SLR video modes have a wiggly jiggly effect if you dont use a tripod. Because the sensors dont capture the entire picture at once like a camcorder, they capture in lines
yes, 24fps is the typical cinematic style. 30 frames per second can look too sharp and cheap in my opinion. 24fps gives it that nice smooth style without being too slow
I just finished going through all of your tutorial videos and they have seemed to help alot. I appreciate your time and effort.
I do have a quesition though about this particular video. When I upload my videos to my computer they do not open my editing program (sony vegas). When I open other AVI files, it works just fine, it is only the files from my D90. I found other people online to have the same issue. Is there something I am doing wrong?
You need to associate the Nikon AVI files to the program you wish to have them open with. Either right click - Open With - Choose Default Program, or right click Properties and In the General Tab You should see Opens With and a Change button to the right.
The reason they don't open the same as your other files is that while the file extension seems similar your computer sees it as different because it uses a different codec.
Well the people buying the D90 are not doing it just for the HD Video. It is just an added bonus, so in realization the fact that it is capable of 720 and you have to manually focus and it is only 24fps is pointless. It is an amazing camera even without the video.
Absolutely. The D80 was a fantastic camera and this one has more megapixels, more fps, and a way better LCD. Check out the other three D90 WebTips for the relevant still photo advice. But there's no debating that "convergence" is a hot term these days, and the D-Movie mode is causing quite a stir, so naturally it seemed prudent to talk about the D90's HD Video capture ability as well. Fair enough?
I saw the video of the Nikon D90 with the D Movie. This was very good and did learn some of its faults and how good it can be used. This video was well made and professional. Thank for put it on Youtube.
can you shoot in raw?
i think d movie is the reason im gonna buy a d3100

For YouTube it looks perfect, stereo sound can be done by separate digital sound recorder, after it can be synchronized on the computer.

Nikon D90 is really good for taking photos, but not for shooting movies.
1,No exposure fluctuation if you use AF-Ae (hold) button
2, For setting the exposation use Exposation compensation button
Why (not) to get a Nikon D90?
1, You can only set the aperature to f/8. The aperature value which was used when you pressed the LiveView button will be locked.
2, No iso and shutter speed control
3, No audio input
4, 24 fps has film look effect but unusable to display
No autofocus?? Poor noobs...

You have to set the AE lock on then the exposure won't change.
