I knew someone, and he was Chukchi. When he served in the Russian Navy, his commanding officer kept calling him "Dersu Usala." That is about as insulting as calling someone Native American in this country "Pocahantus," or someone black "Aunt Jemima." It let me know how racist ethnic Russians can be towards indigenous people of Siberia.

On the Alaskan USA side....it is more like living in Army Barracks! People few and far between. Kinda like Barrow, Alaska which is far North Alaska. YouTube it! At least in Anadyr, Chukotka you have beautiful photography on the buildings, dining, culture along with being in a large city with a smaller district feel. Tourism will increase eventually. Being an hour flight away from USA to Russia is a great selling point.

Anadyr, Chukotka Russia is across the Bering straight and Alaska however the Russian side in my opinion is far more advanced and cultured. In the Arctic you live in apartment style homes since heating as a unit is much more efficient. Anadyr has wonderful European shopping and dining along with culture and it's just across from Alaska only an hour flight on Bering Air.

Maybe not the 'most common', but certainly the name is in great use. Russia's first Christian ruler was Vladimir the Great (beginning of C11th) and the name has been popular since then. There are different spellings in different regions. The name means "Great Ruler". Most Russians have the names of Saints of the Orthodox Church.
