  • Both of these guys have a better memory than I do! I remember a lot of facts and figures, but not to this extreme! :)

  • Although I'm Much Older, You Still Of The Fine Man !!!

  • Interesting in that it shows the power of the brain necessary to process social interaction, humor and personality and the like. Kim is probably awkward because that part of the brain which would handle being human is crunching data, just a guess.

  • Imagine being so smart that Daniel Tammet thinks you're brilliant.

  • savants are fascinating.

  • LOVE that grin Daniel Tammet shines at 3:02

  • "One day, you will be as great as I am" - Kim Peek

  • just watching this video, you can feel the good vibes coming from him. what an inspiration and a shame to have lost him so early.

  • Rest in peace Kim Peek. You are one of the most fascinating men to have walked this earth. What an honour for Daniel Tammet to have met him before he died.

  • its a good thing that people like kim will make it to the highest level of heaven...R.I.P. kim

  • These two are such wonderful men! They act as though they were great friends. ^_^

  • What does Kim Peek tell us about being a human being? That's what I think about.

What amazing things we are capable of!

And sadly, we waste our lives in silly disputes or endeavors.

Hope people will learn to elevate their own lives by looking at a genius like this.

  • Kim Peek Remembered everything before he died

  • @flank99

you have a kim peek fetish

  • @ChrisBenoit4evar you have a chris benoit fetish

  • daniel isn't cant drive. too much goes on

  • 3:47 is the sweetest, coolest moment

  • @rawrdiaper is Kim gay?

  • Why did Kim say: One day you will be as great as I am? Isn't Daniel already better at calculations!?

  • @koveras13 haha that's just Kim. that guy cracked me up.

  • the thing is, he not only had an absolute photographic memory, he also had instant recall.. amazing..

  • But he doesnt remember it, he sees it. Both of these guys are amazing.

  • RIP Kim Peek and you are in heaven now

  • RIP OMg

  • Perhaps it's not the retention which is what makes savants what they are but the recall.

  • im so sad and i've never met him in my life i can't imagine how his relatives feel especially his dad.

  • Also, RIP Kim. He was truly one of a kind, and a genuinely good-natured person to boot. I like how he used to break into song periodically while "following the threads" from one memory to another, eventually ending up with a popular song from whatever era or location he was recalling.

  • Dan Tammet is totally normal compared to Kim Peek.

Kim is, as Dan notes, hands down the most brilliant memory-savant in history. But Dan's a math savant, not a memory savant, and he has actual social skills. Kim requires full-time care from his father, and he doesn't do math, and he's not autistic. He just remembers every single thing he reads, hears or sees with 99% clarity. The part of the brain that does math calculations is different from the part that stores memories.

  • He died today, God Bless his soul

  • Safe journey Mr. Peak

  • fran peek > tom cruise:P

  • You don't have to be handicapped to be different. Everyone is different! awesome quote!!

  • RIP Kim Peek

  • 3:46 - 3:53 weird

  • Haha!

  • Even if they could invent a time machine they know that it would be put to use for bad purposes :=

  • They are like androids from the future. I wonder if Daniel will invent inter dimensional time travel so that I can finally meet some extra terrestrials from planet zeon in the Abell galaxy 13,230 million light-years away.

  • Uhm... Right...

  • savants are AMAZING.. i think being a savant would be pretty damn cool.

  • its amazing that he doesnt even hesitate he just sems to know!!!

  • Would be greatly appreicated if this God talk was whipped off the planet once and for all and all realized that there is only nature and the difference of people is not a work of God or a miracle but only a different set of genetics happen in a natural way.

  • @Gutschiii Daniel Tammet writes about his own belief in God near the end of his book "Born on a Blue Day". Many people in the world understand that God and science are NOT at odds - and that the God who creates nature can also bend/suspend/disregard it as he pleases - it's His creation, and we have a privilege to live in it. I think Daniel also believes this, judging by what he wrote in his book.

  • I can read pages in 8-10 seconds. I don't remember most of it, but still...

  • I can read a page a second with total comprehension and recall of the material, but do forget it with time.

  • bet they can't create the world in a few days hmmm?

  • No, it even took the powerful force of natural several billion years.

  • Does anyone know where I can get the music used in the show?

  • It's the same music from the movie The Royal Tenenbaums. So if you look into that soundtrack, you could probably find it.

  • Wow.I thought before, there were no people like them as now.........But look at them.......Amazing..........They are truly gifted by God

  • Kim Peek's father is also very interesting. He's obviously extremely intelligent and you can tell that despite his age he's stayed alive and strong to take care of his son.

  • Holy Shit!

I used to see this guy in the Salt Lake Library all the time..

    I thought he was retarded..

  • well he kind of is. he doesnt have a corpus callosum...

  • Are you honest?

  • At the end: "and one day you'll be as great as I am". BAH and he's smug too. sweet.

Does this guy have any opinions I wonder?

  • Normal people only use 12 % of their brain. Kundalini represented by a serpent is pure energy residing in the spinal cord. Kundalini is a ancient doctrine from India, which explains the paranormal, genius and insanity, origin of schizophrenia, savants, psychic energy and spontaneous human combustion. It also explains the role of celibacy in all the religions.

  • "one day you'll be as great as I am"

  • Kim is very disabled in speech, emotions and moving, while Daniel seems to be a normal young man without any lack of emotions or social behaviour. He's kind and curious to other human beings, too - not only in books and numbers.

  • Daniel Tammet is autistic. Just that his autism is "mild". All the social interaction he possesses is not "natural", he learned it through the years.

  • It's true that Daniel does not possess actual social skills, but it is wonderful and perhaps equally amazing that he has developed them to the degree he has.

What a gift to scientific research he is!

  • this subject is an awe inspiring subject

  • i watched this in school....so inspiring

  • These guys have natural ability. Other people may acquire similar abilities, just not to the same extent. It is possible to create neural connections within the mind with training.

  • Genious is not defined by memorization.

  • Daniel can perform calcualtions - thats more then just memory. He can ALSO memorize as well.

  • But you cannot achieve genius(no "o") without memorization

  • No, but it is defined with correct spelling.

  • no, daniel is definitely beyond memorization.... kim peek is non-functional yet still amazing

  • If you are referring to Kim Peek, not only can he memorise so much, he can actually piece several information he has remembered, to create meaningful information...

  • ahh the beauty of the mind

  • Daniel and Kim are so great! Daniel's book is also interesting and he talks about what it was like to meet Kim. It's called "Born on a Blue Day."

  • really nice those 2 guys

  • 0.0 OMG he reads left page with his left eye and right page with his right eye!!!

  • YEAH, haha, he's like a scanner.

  • wow he is amazing, I can't imagine a person like that until I saw this video. All I have to say is Wow.

  • Kim Peek must be the most amazing man on the face of the planet. he is remarkable beyond description. the word genius doesn't do him justice.

  • You cannot get 2 people more genious than these 2. They may not have street smarts and have their own disabilities but I'll take either one in a game of Jeapordy as my partner.

  • holy shit i live in SLC how come ive never heard of him?

  • Words matter, otherwise you'd have never posted a comment.

Actions matter when they do, as is true for speech.

  • thier country should be proud of both of them

  • wow kim sure is amazing. kim may be handicapped, but he can easily memorize everything he reads. i wish i had a brain like him. because i have a science test tomorrow lol

  • He knows so much god he is a god for knowlage

  • OMG what is the MUSIC TITLE that starts about half way through???????????

  • It's The Mutato Muzika Orchestra - Sonata for Cello and Piano in F Minor.

It's on The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack.

  • go fuck yourself

  • You are absolutely incorrect. He's autistic, people with autism are the strongest and most beautiful souls in the world. You must be thinking of Politicians.

  • they are absolutely not. saying that they are beautiful people in general is separating them from the rest of us. autistic people are just like everybody else and should be treated like you would treat anybody else. there are no social dispositions granted.

  • @torgosassistant

Kim peek doesn't have autism, he has Macrocephaly....

  • @RectorCR Replying to a comment made 2 years ago is not necessary to prove a point.

  • @RectorCR macrocephaly... lol, no he doesn't. He has a condition where the hemispheres of his brain aren't connected by anything, they operate independently of one another

  • @RectorCR: actually, kim peek had opitz-kaveggia syndrome.

macrocephaly only means your head is large and is a symptom of FG, not the disorder itself.

  • @torgosassistant lol and you are?

  • @torgosassistant I must concur with the statement that Kim Peek is not an autistic, still he did help raise awareness, helping many of us who are on the spectrum out. Also thank you for the compliment, now if only I could believe that myself.

  • @torgosassistant By that last message I mean I 'm not sure I believe in that in myself, in other autistics perhaps but eh, I have estem issues. Blah.

  • @jcizzle61 thats why he died a week ago?

  • i'm blown away, he is truly amazing!

  • One day we will all be as Great as he is.

  • Kim really is an amazing person . . . left me speechless

  • The one

  • This is just like inspirational.

  • amazing

  • And to think people get Kim Peek and Daniel Tammet mixed up as to who is the real Rain Man when it is so obvious lol

  • Wow, this guy is completely amazing.

  • this just makes me smile. It makes be believe that we only use 10-15% of our brains

  • Thats just a popular myth :P

  • Yes, a myth. However, think of it as different uses of the brain. Kim's brain has grown differently due to the lack of vital parts, thus overdeveloping other parts. He is amazing!

  • He wont his father and researchers are stunned to see that he is improving with age not the other way around.

  • I want a memory like this......

  • I don't think you do :p

  • Oh, yes I do. Trust me.

  • he dosnt seems to grasp happyness etc so uses lines from fims or somthing whenevr askd one i saw him asked "are you happy" he says "yes just looking at you" sound slike somthing he would of seen on a romantic film of some sort. and just thinks its the right thing to say he cant get in touch with his feelings.

  • Autistics may experience happiness in a different way than NTs but they DO experience it.

  • i dont think he is happy or sad he just simply is.

  • I have four year old son with autism...and you are correct in your statement.

  • a living google

  • you're jealous

  • What is the Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

    227 Northwest Front St.

  • It was interesting to see the two savants meet. Thanks for this video.

  • Makes you wonder if we don't all have some innate ability to store information without ever forgetting it. Perhaps it's by natures misintention that he lost the ability to close off memories. If we could never forget things, how would we survive losing our loved ones?

  • Well, I don't think the loss of a loved one is something unsurvivable, and I doubt it's forgettable. You don't commonly forget about people when they die.

  • Yeah but my point is, everything in his mind remains fresh. Time dulls our memory so that the pain we had when something happens passes away.

So if someone in his life dies, he may always have some kind of emotional meltdown due to the constant stress afterwards.

  • You are exactly right. When I think about a horrible experience I had, it is just like I am having it. That's why I fainted thinking about my first blood test. I replayed the situation in my mind and I was there.

  • yes it figures that there might actually be a negative defect that Kim/Daniel posseses and that there is a logical reason that we cant all do that.

The brain might actually have the capability to retain ALL the information we encounter in our lives and forgetting actually serves as a survival mechanism to counter repetitive traumatic recall.

  • We don't actually forget. Everything is still stored in our brain. We just cannot remember it consciously (but stimulation of certain brain areas actually makes people remember their lives up to the slightest detail. It was found out once they experimemnted with brains of epileptics (trying to find out where epilepsia begins)).

  • Simply Amazing...

  • you mean.. some human brains are amazing!

  • It is a great ability. Too bad all he can do is repeat what he read and not put it to any practical use. Although, I read he's starting to show the ability to do that to a small degree since 2004.

  • yeah thats amazing

  • wow amazing

  • Talking about good memory.

    He's like a walking Wikipedia.

  • Could him please make a movie only of his visualizations of 1 to 10.000 counting?

  • Autism has such a wide spectrum...just because someone is autistic does not mean they're freaks or act crazy. I've worked with these children for 10 years and some seem totally fine to most people. Sometimes it's just one little wierd thing they do! Even "normal people" do wierd things!

  • Daniel Tammet is supposed to be autistic too but he sounds completely normal...

  • He has Asperger's Syndrome, which means there isn't any delay or impediment in his speech. His autism is entirely inside of him. For example, he gets extremely uncomfortable in noisy, crowded areas with a lot of stimulus and sometimes "shuts down" in those situations.

  • Really? Wow thanks, never knew that.

  • Wowzers

  • Too bad I can't hear a thing. WTF!!

  • Kim would be the ultimate "Jeopardy!" contestant.

    Take that Ken Jennings!

  • ZZZOMZOZMOZMOZMZOZMOZMOMG!!!!

    that's completelly un-understandable

  • gives me chills, amazing

  • Oh wow.

  • i just watched this! lol good show they're amazing.

  • Thank you for sharing this video with us!

  • Recently saw the full documentary on the Science channel. See "Brainman". Amazing, Daniel will change our understanding of the brain and what is possible.

  • thank you so much.

  • Supra-genius; far beyond

  • Amazing. Thanks for uploading :D
