I'm from an hour and a half south of Chicago. Where its constantly quiet. We live in the middle of nowhere. And I can very clearly hear this sound at alot of times. Mainly at night. I'm an atheist and I don't believe in aliens or 2012. It sounds like a busy highway. Yet I live far out if hearing distance of one of those
I heard these were caused by the solar storm that happened around that time.....but other than that I believe it has something to do with the Yellowstone Super Volcano that is due to explode any day now ^_^

I am completely open to there being a reasonable, scientific explanation for what I heard. Again, I am film student. I know all about editing videos. This video might be fake. It might be ripped from another video. I am not debating the video. There was a noise at 2:45am on the 23rd that was very similar to the one in this video. That is all.

@WyldeRadio I live near O'Hare. I thought it was a plane, it wasn't. I thought it was the Metra, it wasn't. It was changing tones as if it were a synth or something. It was 2:45 AM during the morning of Jan. 23rd. The noises I heard are the noises from these videos. I don't know which videos are fake or not, but I do know that the sound was real. I DID hear this noise, but if you don't believe me then what's the point of this conversation. All you can do is keep your ears open.

I have no stake in defending it, but I do know that I heard the noises that night, and I know other people in the area that heard them too. No amount of capital letters is going to make you believe me, and no amount of capital letters is going to make me forget what I heard. No one is disputing that some of the videos are fake, but this noise is real. If you're in the Chicagoland area then I heard it at around 2:45 am the other night. I don't understand how or why there would be such an elaborate hoax and not one person who is in on it would leak any information. What's scary is that this is happening all over the world; same sound and everything. People have also reported that it gave the impression that it surrounded you, so you weren't able to orient yourself to a specific direction to face it. People have also said that the sound isn't blocked out when you wear earbuds. This is pretty scary stuff.
@xHossome I can attest to the earbuds comment, as I was listening to music while out for a walk when I heard the sound. It was loud and clear over my music. This particular video is one of the many "Kiev sound" fakes though, it seems.

Just wanted to say that I'm from the northwest suburbs of Illinois, and I heard this last night too at about 2:45am just a little after I opened my window. You can hear a plane flying overhead thousands of feet in the air while in your home with the tv on. If you ever been in a coastal area you can hear whales who are miles away. The sound that derives in a lot of these videos would be loud enough everyone to hear. Yet only a select few hear it. It's fake.

Stop with the goofy explanations. The sound in this and other videos is from the movie Red State. In that movie trumpets were meant to sound like "end world" trumpets but found to be a hoax. Now people are taking that sound from the movie and using it to create "real" hoaxes....which is kinda ironic.

I live in Northeast Ohio, and around late Nov my family and I (and a neighboor) heard a noice that sounded like a huvering helicopter and a large machine's motor all at once. I live about 3 mns from the steel mill, i drove around, and the sound did not come from the factory. The sound didnt come from the sky or the ground, it was more of an "among us" kinda thing. I cant explain it. It was a constant noice, lasted about 30-40mns. On and off for 2 days.

The similar bird sounds on a lot of these clips is suspicious, but I heard a similar sound in Libertyville, IL in Oct. It gave me the chills. I remember thinking that is sounded like the War Of The Worlds movie sounds, but then guessed I it must have been some roadwork or something.

I live over near there (that is the Damen/Elston river area, right?), and I am not saying this is what it is for certain, but...I've seen different young musician/engineer types that have brought out recording equipment along the river, in remote sections (i.e. behind TJ Maxx off Fullerton), while riding my bike to/from work etc along those river pathways...they've used tone generators through BIG speakers, utilizing the crazy acoustics there. Also--river barges do make these sounds sometimes.
A friend of mine heard it in Catskill, NY a few days ago in the morning taking his trash out...

Again, the video may be fake, but the noise is real. Open your window sometime around 3-4AM (at least in the Chicago area) and you'll hear it. It sounds almost like a recording being played by giant speakers.

@anm712 I live in Chicago and am almost ALWAYS up at 3 and 4 in the am. I have NEVER heard anything even closely resembling this and just in case my ears aren't good enough to hear it, my two dogs have amazing hearing and haven't heard it, either! (If they did, I'd know about it!)

@WyldeRadio I live near O'Hare. I thought it was a plane, it wasn't. I thought it was the Metra, it wasn't. It was changing tones as if it were a synth or something. It was 2:45 AM during the morning of Jan. 23rd. The noises I heard are the noises from these videos. I don't know which videos are fake or not, but I do know that the sound was real. I DID hear this noise, but if you don't believe me then what's the point of this conversation. All you can do is keep your ears open.

I have no stake in defending it, but I do know that I heard the noises that night, and I know other people in the area that heard them too. No amount of capital letters is going to make you believe me, and no amount of capital letters is going to make me forget what I heard. That being said, I haven't heard it since the 23rd, but I will never forget it. Open your window this week and you might hear it? Who knows?

No one is disputing that some of the videos are fake, but this noise is real. If you're in the Chicagoland area then I heard it at around 2:45 am the other night. I don't understand how or why there would be such an elaborate hoax and not one person who is in on it would leak any information. Aside from the fact that I heard the noise, don't you think that just one person would reveal the elaborate world wide hoax where people with busy lives all got together to internet prank everybody else?

What's scary is that this is happening all over the world; same sound and everything. People have also reported that it gave the impression that it surrounded you, so you weren't able to orient yourself to a specific direction to face it. People have also said that the sound isn't blocked out when you wear earbuds. This is pretty scary stuff.

Just wanted to say that I'm from the northwest suburbs of Illinois, and I heard this last night too at about 2:45am just a little after I opened my window. The noise in this video was almost exactly the same as in this video. I don't understand the hoax then? Could someone have been blasting some sort of audio track? @trulady78 Sound doesn't work like that. If it's out in the open and with sounds of this magnitude, if they were real, everyone would have heard it. You can hear a plane flying overhead thousands of feet in the air while in your home with the tv on. If you ever been in a coastal area you can hear whales who are miles away. The sound that derives in a lot of these videos would be loud enough everyone to hear. Yet only a select few hear it. It's fake.

Stop with the goofy explanations. The sound in this and other videos is from the movie Red State. In that movie trumpets were meant to sound like "end world" trumpets but found to be a hoax. Now people are taking that sound from the movie and using it to create "real" hoaxes....which is kinda ironic.
You can Watch Red State on Netflix Instant Watch online. Go watch it, skip to the 1:10:10 mark in the movie when the the trumpets sound.

I live in Northeast Ohio, and around late Nov my family and I (and a neighboor) heard a noice that sounded like a huvering helicopter and a large machine's motor all at once. I live about 3 mns from the steel mill, i drove around, and the sound did not come from the factory. The sound didnt come from the sky or the ground, it was more of an "among us" kinda thing. I cant explain it. It was a constant noice, lasted about 30-40mns. On and off for 2 days.

Exactly i heard it again two nights ago during that thunderstorm when it was raining. and you could tell the diffrence between the thunder and that rumbling sound. it almost sounded like a airplane engine firring up. it lasted all night. and might i add how wierd it was to be getting a raining thunderstorm in the middle of winter and the day after getting a blizzard. i know a possibility was a solar storm. but this happened last year too in the middle of winter. maybe h.a.a.r.p?

The similar bird sounds on a lot of these clips is suspicious, but I heard a similar sound in Libertyville, IL in Oct. It gave me the chills. I remember thinking that is sounded like the War Of The Worlds movie sounds, but then guessed I it must have been some roadwork or something.

I live over near there (that is the Damen/Elston river area, right?), and I am not saying this is what it is for certain, but...I've seen different young musician/engineer types that have brought out recording equipment along the river, in remote sections (i.e. behind TJ Maxx off Fullerton), while riding my bike to/from work etc along those river pathways...they've used tone generators through BIG speakers, utilizing the crazy acoustics there. Also--river barges do make these sounds sometimes.
