What rivets did you use? MDPC-X or generic painted?
I'm planning on getting my own case powdercoated (locally), got any tips? Instead of re-tapping the screw holes, the local powercoaters use plugs. I've also gotten some advice from the internet to enlarge the rivet holes a TINY bit more before getting them powercoated.
@prateshramjohn Feels that way to me. Adam did the best he could. But he was probably getting direction from Eric about how to save money...hence the choice to coat over a failed coat. From what I have heard through the grapevine Adam is fed up with working for free (he has not drawn a pay check in 9 months) and will be leaving FTW PC in a few days. That leaves Eric with no one to do the work for him. A fitting karmic payback for being an unscrupulous, greedy, lying businessman.
@CyberDruidtheModGod I am not a powder coat expert, but I have been working with one for several years and he has educated me on a lot of the processes involved. It takes more to make a good coat than you may think. The guys FTW PC uses don't even have a phosphoric acid bath to prep parts...that's critical for aluminum. From what I learned they refused to accept responsibility for the failed first coat and blamed it on the powder...which was shipped from Prismatic and unopened.
@CyberDruidtheModGod The failed first coat was supposed to be Polar Anxiety, white with a microscopic red flake in it. It came out blotchy, pink in some places, white in others, no even distribution of the flake component. It also looked lumpy and had other surface defects. 8 to 10 hours of labor with chemical stripper would have brought the parts back to raw steel for a proper recoat. That did not happen. So some of the pink bled through as a blush.
@CyberDruidtheModGod On the second coat there was adhesion problems. On that problem area FTW PC elected to strip the part so the new finish would adhere. The whole situation spiralled out of control because FTW PC was more concerned with saving a few bucks than doing what I directed them to do. If you send work to a company and they screw it up I feel it's on them to fix it up. Instead they shifted the blame to powder I sent and used that as leverage to force me to either pay for their mistake
@CyberDruidtheModGod Or to stop my efforts to keep FTW PC from producing two styles of reservoir I agreed to let them make. My agreement was: do a perfect speedy powder coat job on this last epic mod of mine at a reasonable price, in return I would pay them what they asked and provide them drawings and rights to make 10 units each of two reservoir designs. They did not uphold their end of the agreement, then forced me to uphold mine. FTW PC is not a business I would recommend to anyone.
@CyberDruidtheModGod The final straw for me was when I saw Eric Ollis CEO of FTW PC pimping out an 18 bay res design that he asked me to draw up. He had agreed to pay me for that design. After I saw he had already posted on OCN about the design as if it were his own brain child with no mention of me using pictures I provided, ideas I provided, details I provided I felt compelled to try and stop what I perceived as theft of my IP. However OCN staff and moderators deleted all my posts.
@CyberDruidtheModGod At that point I realized I could not expect OCN staff to act and that politics (Eric is a former moderator) apparently trump business ethics on OCN. I made my farewell post and no longer participate in the forum or even browse it. I joined OCN in 2005. I was the first Vendor Rep on OCN. I have the highest trader rating on OCN, I have the highest rep on OCN. I have supported OCN and brought new members and provided much content for OCN. But obviously things change.
@CyberDruidtheModGod I hope this clarifies the situation and explains why I am no longer interested in doing case mods professionally. The whole debacle still riles me. I assume that everyone I do business with has the same high standards, morals and ethics that I have, but that assumption is obviously naive. I should have waited until FTW PC did the work before I provided anything. I should have never discussed details of a res design with Eric Ollis. I take responsibility for my mistakes.
@CyberDruidtheModGod Unfortunately this does nothing for my client. The ETA was missed, the finish is not of the quality I would like, a key part was lost putting the burden on me and my client to get this part made and coated which further delays assembly and delivery. So here I am still working on a case mod in 2012...which is the last thing I want to be doing. I want to move on and do something completely different, but I owe it to my client to produce the highest level build I can.
@CyberDruidtheModGod Looking forward I will be making the missing trim panel today and I hope to hear back from Case Labs about getting it coated. If all goes as planned I will have that panel shipped out by Monday and will continue putting parts together as I wait for it to return. There are lots of little details and many sub assemblies to deal with. I will be posting videos of that work as it progresses.
Thanks for your interest in the work and I hope I can provide some insight and tips.
800D looks awesome cyberdruid, its was well worth the wait. I like what you did with the revits, white revits on the white panels and black on the black panels. I bet from seeing this video corsair will probably come out with a white model 800D. I am picking up this case tomorrow for my new build.Did you sleeve the front panel connectors or just leave them the way the came stock.
