I don't know why Brandford left the band is even an issue. He is a musician. MUSICIANS PLAY IN BANDS. He played great in Sting's band, he played great wih Bela Fleck and in every other band that he played with. This is one of those insignificant issues that we musicians like to pick apart but, we will never really know unless someone asks him.
Why would he feel inferior to his brother, Wynton? Is he upset that he could not alienate much of the jazz community by excluding entire eras of development? Perhaps he didn't play with big enough names? Oh, wait, he played with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Maybe he's just ashamed to have BRANCHED OUT and played other genres to acclaim? No, I think that he likely left the band to explore this thing called HIS MUSICAL DIRECTION. But good guess, in thinking that he felt inferior to Wynton.
If I have it correct- I heard that it had to do with both Branford and Kenny" going to play with Sting. That did not sit well with Wynton. That was the buzz at the time.
@msailors Because wynton's career is so monumentally huge. Maybe Branford chose to live a life like wynton. also his instrument is not nearly as easy to become famous in. This is just me spitballing. I really have no clue.
@lainanicolopolis Branfords is equally huge. He is equally, if not more respected than Wynton by most musicians as well. Check out his bio. Also, you comment about becoming famous doesn't make any sense to me. Some of the most famous musicians in Jazz played tenor..Coltrane, Cannonball, Lester Young, Benny Golson, Ben Webster, etc, etc, etc...
Damn! Look at Tain at 2:45---the whole kit is shaking!!!!!
