The one of the biggest problems with the legal system is that they allow ordinary people to bring their case to small claims without a Lawyer present. An overwhelming majority of people I have personally witnessed have no idea not only how to act in court, but what is needed to win their case. Oh hell...it's all for ratings, anyway...

Apparently, most people who've watched this video have a different perception, and it's obvious the judge was attempting to appeal to the majority, or he's just following the advice of the show's director.
