  • walter stole the scenes in rio bravo as stumpy

  • All 224 episodes from '57 until '63. Wonderful 6 seasons, Did not see them all, but many memories.

  • THE REAL McCOYS SHOW ,DO YOU REMEMBER?

  • Read the warnings from Jesus about the 'Strange Sounds' that are being heard around the world. You can find the prophecy at Prophecies Org, in Chapter 81 Book 12

Please educate yourself, the frequencies are extremely harmful mind control assaults by the NWO and they are not going to stop.

Read the Truth about Revelation 12 at the site as well. The Obama prophecies are going to shock you!

It is also extremely important that you educate yourself about the false rapture in Chapter 78 Book 12.

  • For many years, Walter Brennan held the record for the most Academy Awards won by an actor (he won three as Best Supporting Actor). His record stood until Kate Hepburn took home her fourth award.

  • thecolaratlady: Walter was in Red River, How the West was won, My Darling Clementine, Kentucky, and so many more. He reminded my brother Tom and I so much of our Grandfather, just about the same age.

  • @MIKEISENBERG1 alright

  • @thecolaratlady he was a comedic actor if i recall?

  • Great

  • Miss him!!

  • I can picture him, hear his voice but damn if i have a clue what movies he was in?

  • @thecolaratlady he was in The Gnome Mobile

  • @MrHillbillyjoe alright

  • @MrHillbillyjoe he was a comedic actor if i recall?

  • @thecolaratlady yes. he was hilarious. he did a little work with red skelton.

  • @thecolaratlady He played a sportswriter in "Pride Of The Yankees," alongside Gary Cooper AND Babe Ruth.

  • @kwdrm1 k thanks

  • One of the greatest character actors ever and a star in his own! The real McCoy!

  • The sensitivity of Walter telling the tale of Old Rivers made it a one person performance, nobody could ever mistake who was behind the microphone....His uniqueness made him a legend in the genre he chose to specialise in...and he only ever played the one character, just with a different name....Even Amos McCoy had the same limp and the same laugh, and why not....

  • I didnt know he could sing too! Good talkin song!

  • This gentlemans voice can soften any heart,,,,,,,,

  • I met Walter Brennan a long time ago in old Tucson . he was in a suit and tie. they were getting ready to make another movie. John Wayne had a ranch in az 15 miles from my home . it was called Red River Project. He would stop off and have lots of cold ones at table top tavern in the town of Stanfield Az.

  • I have always loved this song. It gives me chills but it's so pretty. It does make you ready to cry.

  • sniff, sniff

  • I have loved this forever. Reminds me of my Grandpa.

  • Remember hearing this on the radio when I was a little shaver. It is a four star tune done by a master story teller. Walter Brennan a three time Academy Award winner too....much thanks for this posting this song......

  • Same here, I'm coming up on 63 & it still makes my eyes tear.

  • @rmpetty310 I love this old stuff...heading to 60..Frankie Lane, Marty Robbins. Johnny Horton....on and on I could go

  • Love this song by Walter Brennan. The ending brings tears to my eyes and if I sing along with it I tear my voice a bit. "One of the days, I'm gonna climb that mountain, walk up there among them clouds, that mule, old rivers and me". You can almost hear the tear in his voice as well.

  • @patp464 -- So true!

  • @gloheart1 I have this song on a 45 single and what a beautiful track it is too. A Walter Brennan classic. Got a chip in it right at the start but still plays well though after all these years. Yes I know what you mean about a tear in your eye, it is that sort of song. Can't think what is on the other side though. Gary

  • @mollymitch1 I just turned 62 and I heard this song as you youngster. I bought the 45 record of it also and it's almost like new. I cry when I hear it too and it tugs at my heart. It's good to see that other are enjoying it and my sister and I are going to make CD's or DVD's of these songs for our kids and grandkids. We want to preserve these treasures.

  • @carilee49 I'm 65 and I love this song. It's nice to get comments like your's

  • I had forgotten Walter Brennan had recorded "songs". I usually think of him as a great character actor and not a "singer".

  • Living proof that you don't have to be a good singer to make a song work for you.

  • Hard to believe that Walter was born in Boston and attended Boston Latin high school!

Being a Mass. native myself I was really surprised when I found out that Walter Brennan wasn't from out west or the south.

He fooled a lot of people. A great character actor. Perhaps the best ever.

  • Bet Walter would not have been neo-conned.

  • great music by walter i never knew he was a singer till acouple of weeks ogo i all ways known him to be and actor great music geromemaintenance

  • Memories of my youth. Thank you for posting this song. Walter Brennan was something else. R.I.P. Mr. Brennan

  • was a amazing person..

  • this song is still relevant now. times have changed, but this song still has the same message. i'm 38 and i can relate to this song.

  • i am the only disslike!

  • @iLOVEchesterSEE3 THAT'S something to be proud of!! WOW...you deserve a gold star! How old are you, six?

  • Walter Brennan was a "salt of the earth" kind of man. RIP

  • @ronetteloverz I have a feeling he is DEFINITELY resting in true PEACE! Actually, he's more than likely, having a blast!

  • Old Rovers, was a plowmule.

  • You've never heard him do, Old Shep.

  • What great memories!

  • It is one of the all time best!

  • Man, I feel this to my very soul, Walter surely did these from his heart! RIP Walter, you've earned it!

  • To me, this is the most genuine soul music ever created. The tearjerker. I guess I got it from my Dad. He always used the words "cry in your beer" for music like this. Mr. Brennan could release this type of sonic attack on your feelings with the very best of them. What really tops this one off with me is the last few words. When his voice cracks, so does my world.

  • Old Man Clanton.

  • Walter Brennan not only could sing, but was great actor, one with morals and values, something missing today in 2011.

  • no one can sing that song like walter

  • That song sure brought back memories. (sigh)

These were the men in my youth.

  • I like him when he sang Cindy, Cindy with Dean Martin in El Dorado

  • about a year ago I told a good neighbor of mine, that he was my hero. He blushed and said "what do you mean?" Well Jim, I said, you're 78 years old, and still working your 400 acre farm .. corn, tobacco, beans, and you have 30 head of cattle too, you take good care of your wife, your dogs and cat, and your house. Hell Jim, I'm 57 and starting to get tired early in the day .. how do you do it Jim? .... " church, love, and no desire to retire" lol, and I don't have your 19 yr old girlfriend :)

  • @Succubus1992 Treasure your friend Jim--He's a diamond and an inspiration to us all

  • One of these Days im Gonna climb that mountain as i get closer i find i am ready

  • He got high!!!! Yes!

  • Grew up with this here song and love it. I still play on the juke ifin I can it!!! Climb that mountain, Old Man Rivers!!!!

  • @bfpizza I couldn't agree more with you! I believe John Wayne and Walter Brennan made us so proud!!

  • i love this song for a very long time i am 57 right now and when it came out i knew this was about my grandparents in southeast georgie where my grandaddy was a tobbacco and cotten farmer, i can remember him using the mules and the sleds to pick his crops, and he was the great ammerican farmer like others back then.....im so grateful to have grandparents as such......love u grandma, and grandaddy and i miss u dearly.......

  • Talent is talent! I believe that he is a 3 time Oscar winner for best supporting actor. Good dancer too! We need more talent.

  • This song represents the salt of the earth of the American spirit!

  • @fatkinson2011 Indeed. I keep lookin for talent today, there just aint none. Not talent like this.

  • I have always been a fan of Walter Brennan - never a star in his own right but what a back-up actor. Magnificent in Rio Bravo with John Wayne and Dean Martin - agreat movies with Dino the real star.

  • @Alkibiades2010 Don't forget when he was Pastor Pyle in Sergeant York! He played that part magnificently!

  • Mr. Walter Brennan was an excellent actor in all of His movies.

  • The very First and very best Rap Song

  • @pandadan1 please don't associate this with crap (oops I mean ) rap

  • @LES6723 I Love All his Movies And Music and while don`t care for or listen to most modern Rap Or Hip Hop ,I am pointing out That Rap or The Spoken Word In Music Does Not Have to Be Shocking or Vulgar or twisted by blind Prejudice,

  • @pandadan1 If I didn't know what you meant I'd almost think that was an insult to this song. I'd call it folk song.

  • @pandadan1 Lol, it is indeed a Rap song my friend, the best ever..

  • fatkinson1954, you're right. John Wayne's 'America, Why I Love Her' was similar, and he performed it powerfully I might add.

But, this thread is for his good friend and fellow performer extraordinaire, Walter Brennan, who was truly masterful at inserting all his enchanting personality into every word of every lyric of every song he performed for us.

John Wayne and Walter Brennan, two great Americans who continue to stand the test of time. At least I think so.

  • @bfpizza So do I!

  • @bfpizza me too

  • This man was the salt of the earth.

    God rest his soul.

  • Best Rap artist whoever lived! Never sang a note, and the only artist who never needed to.

  • @bfpizza I disagree. John Wayne did the same kind of thing with his album, "America, Why I Love Her.".

  • 50 years later this is still a great song, always will be.......Even though I listen to "Hard Rock n' Roll" I still love this song......Just heard this song on the radio today after many years of nobody ever playing it on commercial radio....Thanks for the great post....."mpsicily"................
