The SIU just pumps all of these folks out of there as fast as they can cause they money from the govt. for doing so. And most of the people might ship once or twice, and then they are done.
Being a mariner is much more than just a job. It's a career and lifestyle choice.
If you've never been to sea, it's a shock when you get on that first ship.
Class #134 here. graduated on my birthday January 1976. What a hell of a trip. 1st ship took me to the Port Of Jidda all the way to Chittagong, Bagladesh via Assab Ethiopia, Bombay, Madras and Calcutta, India. I got one hell of a tan!!
I graduated piney point in 1980 and my class number was 23. I really didn't like Pine Point. The food stunk, we slept 30 to old army style barracks, only 4 women in the entire school and there were a lot of super assholes at the school. I did like ship life becasuse I made about $2,000 per month plus room and board. You youngins, make no mistake about it, you will have fond memories and a great deal of self respect for having the guts to become merchant seaman (seapeople nowadays?).
@waltgreissle When I attended Piney Point, there were no women but rednecks aplenty. There were five from my hometown, Philly, five from NYC, and the rest were from Mobile, New Orleans, and St. Louis. Still, I made a lot of good friends. You're right about how much the food sucked but it was much better on a ship.
sammy corrado you popped up on face book today and now again on you tube....i'm sending you another smoke signal.............billy sullivan -aka- billy tipps
CLASS 32! AUGUST '05-SEP '05! The hotties were always restaurant guys....oh I was in Piney Point and it was so fucking hot but I was having so much fun meeting new people. I remember getting there and they search your bags and then bring around these disgusting sandwiches and I wouldnt eat it, thankfully my roommates ended up OK, I was in room 317 I think? Well anyway it conveniently right across from the laundry room. Love Piney Point. Hate ship life. I left Pride of Aloha after a month.
CLASS 104 ROCKED! we made everybody crying!! Sammy u rock! One of the best experiences of my life! I miss michael borja!! hahaha Class 104 reigns supreme! -Leah
701! going back to 3rd phase aug 21.... goodtimes gettin stoned and hammered on new years thats the benefit when you have ppl in ur class that are chief, AC, D-BO.
P.S. In 3rd phase ,as we were passing around a bottle of whiskey, we talked about a 10 year reunion. Well its getting close! Anyways I love all of you. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about you Duprey. I got your business card, nice red! love you all.
SIX HUUUNDRED!!! Paul Hagan from Florida here reliving old times. Anyone from Piney point 2000-2001 drop a line. Colson, Linares, Shughart, Horton, Logoteau, DGAF, Shuman, Hell even Laruso and OglesBeast! You know I cant forget you Todd Curry. sorry I was such a jerk in 3rd phase. What a magical time. Truly the best and worst of times. Much love and respect from North Florida. God bless all you pirates! #600!!!
i was in the first class out of piney point in october of 2004 to go to pride of aloha. i survived and 5 month contract but put up with alot of crap from managers who could nt get away with the crap they did on land. i hope things changed for their sake. goodl uck if your going to hawaii.
You motherfuckers have to be the weakest things ever brought into Piney Point. You all (NCL) are the downfall of Piney Point. Having losers airlifted out of there because you idiots dont understand "Stop playing tackle football on cement" is retarded. Given, SIU classes there were nuts, but we never were STUPID enough to get ourselves injured cracking our heads open. Class 690 baby. You guys are nothing.
dude i seriously want to leave to training already! i dont care if anyone says its hell...i just want to leave. all the damn paper work takes hella long! i wait till the end of august to get word on my documents.
now i know exactly what was going on with lil'j while she was oh so very far away. sammycorrado, thanks for putting this up so the world can see class 104 of the piney point people.

What bothered me was that many of my classmates back in 1980 were ex-convicts and reform school criminals.
