Anders Lassen was in the merchant marine when Denmark was attacked. Unable to reach Danish port he chose to join the english army. There was no other alternative at the time.
axel von dem bussche-streithorst--his mother and ander's mother were sisters. he was part of the von stauffenberg conspiracy to kill hitler. he survived the war and became german ambassador to u.s.
As you unveil the family history it becomes clear, that genes must play a vital role.
By the way it's quite common, that danish and german genes are mixed partly as a result of the former border between the then non-unified Germany and Denmark.
anders lassen was danish so of course he was in denmark at the date you give. he was not german, his cousin was german. anders was killed by the germans in a operation in italy. he was one of the allies greates heroes in ww2.
Jabo - I was thinking of Axel Freiherr von dem Bussche-Streithorst....to gp with the complete name.
The story about his meeting his cousin in Copenhagen came from Bussche himself. He told it in a double portrait of him and Anders Lassen on Danish TV some years back.
It is one of the little-known parts of the German occupation of Denmark, on april 9th, that many Germans with relations to our country, were participating in the preparation to the invasion:
im confused victor. im american and my interest in lassen came from reading bout the von stauffenburg conspiracies, which led me to axel Bussche-Streithorst, which in turn led me to anders lassen. i had never heard of him before and found it unbelieveable considering his story. i've found 1 page on the net about some of the ops around greece which anders was involved in and thats bout all. in your post above are you saying that Streithorst was in denmark pre-invasion to help the germans prepare?
You are right to be confused. I apologize if I was not clear.
To the best of my knowledge, Bussche-Streithorst was NOT in Denmark preparing the invasion. That impressiive piece of treason went to Hans Georg Klamroth. (All Klamroths papers from that period were burnt).
However, Axel was part of the occupation force, (I am not totally sure how - his unit was, at that time, based near Luxemburg during the "guerre folle"). I suspect that he was attached to the OKW
- - like many other German officers with a knowledge of Denmark. The later publisher of the illegal daily Information, was stopped at the Lillebælt bridge on the morning of april 9th - by a Danish-speaking officer.
We know from himself, that he was in Denmark a few days after the invasion (the episode with his cousin in the bus or tram) - but what he did, I am not sure. I dont have my archive here.
this was a truly amazing family. his first cousin was a german officer in ww2 and had volunteered to sacrifice his life in an attempt to kill hitler, but the plan was aborted. i can't believe someone has'nt made a movie about anders brave exploits.
Some years ago there was a danish TV documentary about Lassen and his german relatives, and as far as i remember they knew each other very well, they "nearly" grew up together, but when germany invaded denmark , axel kept a distance to his danish relatives, because he thought they would stand in a bad light, if they mingled with the germans, and axel was really sad about it, according the documentary he was a real gentleman
we don't have enemies in Europe anymore, thats the whole idea of EU, and regarding the other thing, it is not what they said in the documentary on DR TV
Where does it come from this clip - which documentary??

And guess where this fine German was on april 9th 1940?
In Denmark.
You can never, ever trust the Germans - unless you have more firepower than them.

The name Klamroth springs to mind.

it would be interesting to know if anders and axel knew each other well or if they had contact up to or during the war. anyone know?

It was different. Axel met his cousin - she looked thru him and refused to speak to him again. Ever.
victor190779 2 years ago
once again victor190779 no offence but the cousin was a he not a she. you must be watching a different movie than the rest of us.
jabo2121 2 years ago
ít was not like that, and about your hate to germany, this war was over years ago, it is a new germany now

Is it: Google "Rumänen, Esel und eine Entschuldigung" and you will se what one of the most influential German politicians said THIS WEEK.
As for my "hate" of Germany. I dont hate the country. They are our enemies - but I dont hate them

How the hell can someone who calls himself "skagen ind" - the name of one if the Danish Spitfires during WWII - be a poodle for the vile krauts???
victor190779 2 years ago
ofcause i can call me skagenin, but skagen ind was fighting Nazi germany, and i'm proud of it, but again it was an other germany
