  • These ARE the droids you're looking for.

  • He is soo clever though

  • This video of Derren Brown was shown on television a good few years before it was uploaded on here, it was one the very early episodes of his programme.

  • Other guy tried to suggest doing more test and seeing if the phone would sync and blah, blah blah. I cut him off and looked back at the manager and said This doesnt work and I need you to replace it. You will replace this today. In 10 minutes he came back with a new late model 2011 Mac Book Pro with a new 3 yr warranty! My friend could'nt believe it! As hard as he tried. Them trying to say its this or that. Maybe his backup drive was bad. After watching it helped me out..Idk about anybody else .

  • I don't know if this guy does real things or not but I believed I could give people suggestions myself after watching this. My friend had difficulty in getting Apple to replace his laptop for 2 weeks, hours in the store. I heard about what they had done and told him that i WILL get you a new $3,000 Laptop today. I believed it completely. I went down there. Asked for the manager again. He came Out and I looked him with total focus. And said you will give me a new laptop today. The other guy...

  • he promises not to use stooges, but he never promises that people aren't pre-primed, which is how I had deduced this and a lot of them. Eg, did he or someone talk to the workers in this video beforehand? Other tricks of his do exactly that as the display... omitting it seems fair because it still demonstrates how one could be primed to do something like, in this csae, give away money when we all think that its impossible.

  • "EDIT: After discussion with various people I think this particular effect was done by a trick, not hypnosis/persuasion"

Wait, is Derren Brown a fake? :(

  • @Brewmaster757 He's an illusionist.

  • Stooges, simple.

  • "these aren't the dogs your looking for"

  • @TimelyPineapple "You can go about your business. Move along."

    Ha! Nice.

  • Dammit Channel 4!

  • good work

  • He uses the same line "This is the dog you're looking FOR" for the 1st losing ticket also (which was number 2, not number 4), so that explanation is rubbish. Sorry.

  • @jamstock That’s why we came 2 this WINdow.

This is the dog you’re looking 4.

  • SHOCK! This is the video your were looking FOUR! That's why you came to THREE WIN dows before! TWO WIN though you want to rate this ONE positive NOOOW!!!

  • I think he scared her. That's all there was to it.

I once almost got away with no paying for an item on one of the automatic self checkout machines. Something didn't scan properly and I put it in the bag. The machine said there was an unauthorised item in the bag. I believed it scanned properly so I directed a staff member to authorise it and she did. Then I realised it didn't scan, so I thought I'd scan I know I should pay for it.

  • "Looking for" only works for ticket number 4, what would he say if it was ticket 5?

  • @pr4nk5tr well, he'd say looking five, obviously, joke. :) he would probably use something else, like a gesture or something :))

  • @pr4nk5tr if the winning dog was number 5 he could look at the guy next to him and say "high five!" loud enough for the teller to hear. since the number 2 can be represented by the words two, too or to and the number 1 can be represented by one or won these numbers would be the easiest to make something up for. also if you notice when he said window he put more emphasis vocally on the word win in window as he said it. i wanna take a course in nlp , its pretty amazing :)

  • So they sell Candy Bars in Electronic stores in the US??

  • The tricks simple.. Shes been primed into a suggestive state 1-2 hours earlier . The words "No Actors and No Stooges" still allow them to prime people. In fact those words are shown in the show so prominantly to throw the viewer even further of guard of how simple the tricks actually are.

  • @o0smokingmonk0o do you hear him saying Russian "scam" video, hes clearly pointing out that what he does is some sort of trick. NLP is a legitimate technique used by other people. The way MystryBox acknowledged it seemed like criticism to me.

  • @UndefinableFlow It's called Russian Scam because the trick was a originally a scam the Russians used to do to steal people's wallets etc. It's based on the original scam.

  • Just because you can justify what Derren Brown is able to do does not make him any less of a person. I noticed you talking about how he did the russian "scam", he was willing to risk his life to show that NLP manipulation is possible under such circumstances. Derren Brown also mentions what he does in the dog track video at a much smaller extent. So until you can apply these techniques easily, you shouldn't criticizes what he does.

  • @UndefinableFlow lolwut?

  • @UndefinableFlow this was hardly a criticism, he's explaining what's going on, for those who didn't pick it up in his video. This isn't the video you're looking for

  • You should make an e-book on NLP manipulation, and sell it. I think we lack this form of art in our everyday understanding, and therefore cannot utilize it. Plus, I would like to pick up women that way.

  • good to see how ignorant people are, hypnosis does work and yes magic does exist there are plenty of other energy around you that cant see but can use because you are in a 3rd demension view but there are 4th and many other demensions where you can use that energy such as what derren brown does is because he practices and knows his stuff he fully visualizes that she will give him the ticket as well as command it and transfer's energy. It is possible to do this and in a year yu could hypno 1000s

  • @doctamic ummm no, hes a mentalist look it up

  • Window = win dough (dough = money)

  • @BLUELUTRA

maybe if it was in America.. dough doesn't really mean money in Britain.

  • @mancltymagics1 The ambiguity of language, if that woman was aware, on any level, conscious or unconscious, that dough meant money. Then she was always aware. Covering all possibilites. Either way, the ambiguity is there. Be happy.

  • @BLUELUTRA not a bad idea but its the win shes looking for, at the end of the day shes giving out the money not reeiving it!

  • That guy was not very confident, he raises his eyebrows and dips his head in shame while making eye contact, weakness.

  • @joshthegoth Wow to all of you. But it's not just one aspect that gets people to take actions. Its everything as the package. The pattern interrupt, the embedded commands, the multiple ambiguities, the speed of delivery overloading conscious response.

  • tHERE'S NO SUCH THING AS MAGIC.

  • darren you jedi

  • fantastic videos, mystrybox. please do more debugging of other masterminds!

  • It is fake. All tickets are individually numbered and the actual bet recorded against this number, the operator can't decide if a ticket is a winner or not. Doesn't matter how it was done, it is bullshit.

  • @xraytube111 u dont understand. even if the machine says its a loosing ticket, the lady will STILL pay out the cash if she is convinced otherwise!

  • @CT2507 Yes I do understand fully. The video is a complete con. The players have been set up. If this woman is real and does this for a job. and did what is shown in this video for real, she would be loking for a new job the next day.

If you think this video represents anything near reality then you are a total twit and you need a shrink.

  • @xraytube111 u are just an ignorant. study the subject of NLP before u start insulting people.

i can understand how many people are sceptical. but without proper knowledge they remain in the dark, like u.

  • It's a magic trick and nothing more. A clever bit of sleight of hand. Browns MO is 'mind reading' and mentalism. It's a simple trick dressed up to look like he has some amazing power, but he doesn't. Any half decent magician could do his tricks.

  • if i met a cheap trash trick artist like derren brown it would be the first time i go to jail for assault and it would be worth every fucking punch

  • @adrianeaglrck umm the word your looking for is battery not assault... assault would be saying your gonna punch him but never doing it...

  • my point and clarity still hold assault requires intention and effect where as battery requires intention and involves actual contact btw if you want to split hairs that statement is my intention and no actual harm was done so assault is a more proper word for a pissed off paragraph writer than battery

  • I'm from Argentina if you tried this you owe me existential hypnogogic scam you would get laughed at..personally I would get furious

  • so basically u got a reciept for 2 candybars and 1 piece of merchandise along with 1 hot item .. nice trick

  • people don't say "dough" in england, they say "quid" or something, don't they?

  • @epiphanyful quid is another word for a pound

  • it's weird to see what the old youtube looked like

  • window im surprised you didnt guess he actually says WIN-DOUGH dough as being money pretty much a double whammy phrase

  • What about dough? ...came to this WIN DOUGH...

  • You know, I really don't think it's a coincidence that 'MystryBox' rhymes with 'Sucks c0cks'!!!! Endorsing thieving makes a robbing pikey council estate bast@rd!!!!! Go get a job and buy your goods!

  • I didnt really scroll down to far into the comments to see if any one had a similair idea, but i noticed everytime he kind of hit the side of the window to make a loud noise(distraction) and told her "this is the dog your looking for" so i was wthinking maybe some how tricking the teller into scanning the bar code again and just comparing dog names, and not even checking to see if the computer said the dog lost, and being confused and kind of timid she paid out

  • ye i use it alot sumtimes it works sumtimes it doesnt it all depends on the person you do it too. if they look daydreamy or abit dumb then it works. Iv dun with with train tickets bus tickets and betting slips most i got was £90 of a losing slip. its all thanks 2 the show . i went out and tried it after watchin with episode and it worked.

  • Good Psychological analysis. This confused me on the show because surely the scanner the women uses will declare a winning or losing ticket, regardless of the techniques Derren uses.

  • Good Analysis. I knew going into this video that it would be NLP/Patterns, and knew the window slap and window line were key... but I still missed it (totally missed the 4/FOR).

So the question is - could one Jedi use a Jedi Mind Trick on another Jedi?

  • @orwellophile

As a social psychologist I have an alternative explanation: On each occasion the ticket holder was fairly unthreatening. Derren uses a threatening voice and an overtly hostile gesture suggesting to this woman the possibility of violence even though she is in a somewhat protected environment. At the end of her shift she would have to account for the short drawer. My guess is she would tell her boss about the incident, eat her loss, and just be thankful she still had a job.

  • @YD8189 as a social psychologist you're wrong because if you watch the whole video he does it on his own before hand sooooo he doesn't need an nonthreatening partner =P

  • you suck!! you are messing up my searching for derren:(

  • how can he come up with the suggestions so quickly, thats what amazes me, its the only thing i have difficulty with.

  • i hate the new rating system

  • why is every one missing the point its a TRICK people banging on about suggestion is so funny giving him more credit than he actually gives him self. He has said many times that its very simple stuff and very rarely relies on what you lot r claiming. And its not a stooge

  • This is just all set up, she is just a stooge, derren brown is a trickster and the better he is at tricking you, the better the performer he is.

  • I love this clip from the track, but doesn't the machine read the ticket...not the person? You can't use NLP on a machine.

  • @daveco1270 How about just watching the video first? The cashier lady says herself that the following interview that the machine showed the real winner. But due to the suggestion she handled it like a winning ticket anyway.

  • its awesome... could be very nice to have these skills :) I would abuse them all the time :) Teachers, Poker and impressing ladys :)

  • That's what I thought too when I saw the video: He is a Jedi :)

  • You still don't explain how the computer generated the win?

  • @Unshonwe It didn't generate a win, it generated a loss. She just thinks it generated a win due to the suggestions she had received.

  • Sir this is amazing.

  • so it wouldn´t work in any other language than english ?

  • @Zabek2006 it will work you just need to get the right words, opposite to english where you got all the work done.

  • You just need to find the right words for your languages... the benefits that other languages have may not be the same that the english have

  • this is an AWESOME video

you must do another analysis like this one ;D

  • THis was freaking bad ass!

Please keep up analysis like these, they are awesome!

Is anyone else doing stuff like this, that you can point out?

    Amazing!

  • That's interesting.

Another way it could have been done was outlined by an experiment done on 48 adult pedestrians in Brooklyn N.Y.. The experimenter dressed in a guard uniform, stopped a passerby, pointed to a confederate standing by a parking meter and said 'This man is overparked but doesn't have any change GIVE HIM A DIME!'. The experiment was also repeated but with the experimenter wearing casual clothes.

83% obeyed the guard. 46% obeyed the civilian.

  • wouldn't the sensors have gone off as u were leaving the shop since she didn't scan the other piece of electronics?

  • Crap!

  • lol, emphasizing the for/4 didn't do anything.

The second time he said the same thing and the winning dog wasn't four.

  • @hoopz2598 Yes it was

  • How do you learn this stuff?

  • So do you think these 'suggestive' NLP style techniques can actually work - especially in these circumstances?

  • With a computer read ticket? Unlikely.

  • have you ever tried anything like this? even by accident. just to try

  • The end of the video tells a little story about where I did this.

  • @MystryBox Haven't you ever seen the color trick Derren did on the woman, making her think her red car was a black car? The eyes see what they think they see, they glaze over so much. That's why if you go to sit in a familiar char, and someone moves it back a few inches, you'll fall flat on your butt. Most likely the screen was still reading "not a winner" (or whatever the message is) but since she thought she should be seeing thee "Winner: pay out" message, that's what she saw.

  • @MystryBox dude the trick is he throws her off by hitting the window, then just before she punches the key he says "for" so she hits the "4" key instead of 6 or what ever the number on the ticket is.

  • So what is it? Just a slight change of ticket with his hands away from the camera?

  • Most likely something in that vein... a switch the camera doesn't see. Or perhaps a winning ticket with one barcode doctored with a losing ticket barcode which is later removed. Something like that is a simple explanation that would easily work.

  • @MystryBox what a moronic theory

  • @MystryBox, do you think this would work when trying to get on a bus (using an oyster card)? For example, influencing the driver to believe the card works?

  • I totally agree that she would already be in a vulnerable state due to the repetitive nature of her job. Thats why I always suspect people who talk too much about random things while your counting money, or rush you like their in a big hurry. Ive been burnt a few times and learnt from it. Using Derrens techniques is a whole other ball game, you need to be very smart and on the fly at the same time. He is an excellent communicator, so much so it influences people. Interesting subject. Go Derren

  • This is the DOG you're looking FOR/4, that's why we came to this WINdow. ( dog 4 win)

  • I've only recently got into this power of suggestion and misdirection.... I really wish i had discovered it earlier. My gaze is fixed for now.

  • we are all able to do these things, you just need to open your mind . all derren has is a deeper understanding of how the human mind works and how pradictable all of us can be.

  • your so right

it worked on my friend because he was in on it also

    lol

  • I have to say, I watched the lotto prediction and it got me intrigued in Derren. I watched his shows and when you watch a few closely together you really start to see certain patterns. So, I went and looked up NLP. I really only got a few pointers like anchoring and mirroring but this video and the Russian scam explanaition really helped put the pieces together for me. Another good one, unless you already did it and I just haven't seen it yet would be the blank money - 'just take it - its fine'!

  • Context disguise (again).

What YOU think you are seeing is not the reality.

You have no idea of full context nor is there any continuity. THIS IS A FACT, don't even try and argure it.

You seriously need to question what you see more.

  • Yeah everyone tells me I don't question what I see enough. That's my biggest problem, obviously.

  • Listen to them, it's sound advice.

There is hope for you yet.

The think is that people are way too trusting of what they are told on the TV. It's even worse when Politicans and the News media play the same games.

Question everything, don't take anything at face value and you'll do well.

  • I see that sarcasm is lost on you.

Read the video description--I'm well aware this is a trick.

  • Yes but you think it's the trick that Derren Brown wants you to think it is.

    You haven't see beyond that.

Do you know what happened before and in between the filmed sequences in this video?

No, of course you don't. You have no context for what you see except the context created for you by Derren Brown.

    That's the way he works.

  • Um, no. Read a few comments down from some days back and you'll see how I think it was done.

  • Ah.. apologies.. I see you changed your mind from what you say in the video.

You now think its a trick.

    Good.. you're right.

It's always a trick with Derren.

He dresses old tricks up with NLP garbage to give him the edge over the competition.

I think more people are getting it now.

  • GravityBoy72...v.good point about ppl believing the pseudo-explanations/red herrings that Derren gives. It is so annoying how NPLers jump on Derren's material and claim it as NLP.

  • Nice try at saying you got a free electrical thing, that strory was complete bull hahah

  • Ohh yeahh thats what the old youtube player looked like oh nice videobtw lol

  • Lock your Grandmas up, Mr Box is out buying candy bars again (thats confectionary or chocolate in English)!

Youd think being such a fat bastard hed lay off the chocolate by now

And yes Brown is a robbing fker too!

  • wordsofwisdom2009 - heres some words of wisdon for you. Change your name! You talk shit!!

Oh and by the way, in England, we know what a 'candy bar' is thankyou very much. And FYI, we dont say "confectionary".

  • lucyswfc what are you on? Apart from a council estate and drugs of course, that much is obvious!

I can't help the fact that I hate fking thiefs, but then I can understand why you don't! If you hated thieves too then you'd be a billy no mates in you council home wouldn't you!

Go get laid and stop stressing!

  • wordsofwisdom2009 Hahaha your funny! :-)

I never mentioned anything about thieves did I? Yeah, you got me! I just love thieves.. What you gonna do about it? NOTHING.

Here's an English phrase for you..

    BORE OFF!!!! :-)

  • "wordsofwisdom2009 Hahaha your funny! :-)"

Thank you!!! thank you!!! I'm here same time tomorrow!!! Thank you!!!

  • You don't maintain fat bastard status by laying off the chocolate!

  • The candy bar thing makes YOU a THIEF!!!! I fking hate THIEVES!!! Go back and pay for your goods you stealing robbing bastard!

Thieving is THIEVING, whether its an electrical item or an OLD LADIES PURSE!

  • Is this your watch? I found it just lying here unused on your arm, heh.

  • I've seen an NLP Master Trainer give the same explanation (someone very close to Richard Bandler). However he suspects Derren also met all the cashiers before filming and selected the most susceptible one(s) and told them hypnotic stories about generosity and paying out. This would help ensure the success of this psychological trick (which does NOT involve sleight of hand).

  • if you think about it he actually said WIN-DO the DO as in money!

  • Didn't know Derren was famous in America. Or wherever the fuck you're from.

  • I'm the fuck from California, and no he's not that well known here. But he should be.

  • Well I have my own theory.

THe way he is able to get paid out on the losing ticket is by manipulating the machine. We have all seen him manipulate people in trains, in cabs, on stage... well then this shuld also mean that he can manipulate machines as well. Because after all, machines are man made and since humans use them (like this woman) there is always lingering energy. SO he was paid out because he was able to get the machine to agree that his losing ticket was a winner. thoughts?

  • Surely you're overanalysing the trick and giving Derren Brown Jedi mind powers? It's a trick. He gives her a dud ticket first and while he's banging the window he substitutes it for a winning ticket by sleight of hand. Makes it look like a dud ticket is being paid out on. When he shows her that she's made a mistake he's back to showing her the dud ticket.

  • Read the video description and you'll see I agree with you. However I don't see a switch... it might be a doctored ticket.. might be a switch they don't show.

  • just my opinion: but you can see in the original video(2:04-2:06) that the ticket has a barcode (which has the info coded for verificaction) so the cashier scans the ticket and of course the nachine tells her is no good. When Brown hits the side of the window you can see the cashier almost laughing(smiling at least). This is rigged obviously just like the "live" stunts of Chris Angel... (unless they got a hacker changing the machine's response at the second check)

  • I don't think the woman is a plant. I'm sure it's a trick but one that works off a winning ticket being modified somehow to read incorrectly as a losing ticket on a casual reading. For example maybe the ticket has 2 barcodes and one has been replaced with a losing ticket barcode.

  • its nlp research it! he programmed her before the cshow then he bangs his hand in the kaosk! to get her re hyponotize and do as she is told. sorry about the spelling coz im pissed but search NLP its good stuff

  • THIEF!!! Go back and pay for that!

  • Yeah, I've thought about it. Bottom line is I'm too lazy to go out of my way to fix someone else's mistake.

  • No way, Dont pay for it, What were you thinking, hehe

  • ... on accident ... butcher the english language

autho-rit-at-ive ... i thought you sounded intelligent at first ...

  • We Americans do that on purpose to piss you brits off. Glad to see it still works, heh.

  • the original video is banned in the uk, does anyone know where i can watch it. Or which series it was in or anything.

  • Erm no it isn't....n00b cake...4oD says hi

  • cheers noob jockey. whys it banned on tube

  • its banned on 4oD too u bastard - the only episode that is!! so whos the n00b cake now

  • Erm fist of all ya'll need to calm the fuck down and realize that your all WRONG HAHAHAHHA

jk but u all r 2 srs for my liking

Oh and UR THE N00B CAKE

    SUCK ON THAT!!

  • share the love, WHERE IS IT?

  • Hahahaha sorry sumfinorother I hope this dosn't affect our 1 week of acknowleding eachother

    oh and....

    excuse my french xx :)

  • why can't u tell me?

face it, just like JammerJoker, you don't really know where it is. . . .

  • haha if this guy can make people give up there belongings and money, then he can make you believe in god!

  • Nice theory but I think an atheist would rather do quite the opposite of making you believe in any sort of god!

  • So is Derren amazingly good, unlike any other. Or can I learn how to mind rape people too?

  • Hmm.. I dont agree with the revealing of a magicians techniques. Im not sure (As a magician yourself) how you justify this.. But as this technique is not Derren's and he quickly moves onto other techniques and discards previous routines im sure he wont mind to much.. You don't mention the use of tonality though. And also "Marking out". So nobody will effectively be able to do this by just watching this vid.

  • who said she knew how much to give out and that she calculated it. She worked it out by looking at the odds on the ticket and because her subconscious was being manipulated she saw on the screen the most likely amount that should be paid out. Did she say whether she gave derren the correct winnings? No. Her subconscious mind simply calculated an approximate total of what should be won, probably the same amount as the last person with the same odd who came first.

  • it might work with scratch cards as long as you say this is the winning ticket and tell them how much you've won, i expect if you do it right it would work

  • Theres a bit more skill to it than that but you're pretty much right. Theres another Derren Brown episode where he goes round NY paying for shit like jewellery with blank pieces of paper. The basic idea is that he creates an instant rapport by engaging the cashier in conversation, then creates an unrelated story to keep their attention while he throws in subtle phrases like "she told me to just take it" to make them subconciously accept that the blank paper is legal tender. Genius.

  • i can explain how he did it. He told her that is a winning ticket, the number 4, he also said win. It made her not only think it was the winning ticket but made it look like to her that the computer said it too, so that confirmed it. She even mentioned the computer said to pay out the money.

  • Thank you!

  • 1st one is called direct suggestion e.g. in ur face this is the winning ticket

  • Feel free to learn how to do the handshake induction via my channel. What DB did here is very easy to do when you know how.

  • Fine explanation, MystryBox. But I feel the real emphasis should be laid on Derren's uncanny ability to manipulate trains of thought. You can tell he is handling that lady's mind as if he were pushing buttons, all at the right time. And he is being slightly menacing. There is more to it than just saying words and banging the frame of the window.

  • As I say in the description, after a lot of discussion after making the video I think this is a trick not suggestion.

  • Thanks for your reply. What do you mean by trick?

  • Not so. . . Derren is a master of appearing to use more psychological techniques then he actually does. He is not a sort of puppet master. He is a skilled magician. Nobody can be manipulated without their consent. There are ways to covertly get consent unconsciously but you have a small window of time until the deductive reasoning kicks back in.. That woman in the office realized what she had done as soon as Derren left i'm sure...

  • I'm not revealing any magic secrets on this video or any of my videos.

  • You are definitely wrong. Nobody can be manipulated without their consent? Are people usually manipulated consensually? Does Derren Brown stick people's feet to the ground with their consent? He basically tells them what to do and they do it.

In his shows he asks you to think of something, but he has already told you what to think of...

Also, coincidentally, did you see the show where he convinced that guy he was a dummy? It was a 'trick'

  • Check out my channel.. Im an avid mentalism historian and an expert Hypnotist i also have a psychology degree. I write a lot of articles on Covert hypnosis and subliminal messaging for various Magic blogs and forums for amateur magicians... I work proffesionally as an artist and use subliminal messaging in my art.. So i know what im talking

  • Didn't do a very good job of spelling or convincing me...

  • by accident. not on accident

  • And you are supposed to capitalize the B in "by" and the N in "not" if you want to get technical.

  • I loved your analysis. It makes so much sense. I am amazed how this stuff works. Thanks for your insights

  • Someone tried to scam my wallet from me. He tried shaking my hand and I said "FUCK OFF YOU HOMO, WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU"

That wiped his smile off his confident face.

If you are strong minded...you will not get tricked.

I remember Derren trying to trick a guy from new york.

    It didn't work.

  • Because he's from "New York" right....lol
