  • Does a torpedo destroy by actually penetrating the hull, or by the shock wave produced by it exploding? And I know I shouldn't say it, but that was sooooo cool!

  • @baileyjean1000 Both really, the purpose of a torpedo is to penetrate the hull, then detonate once it has entered the ship's center of mass. The explosion then rips the boat in two, rendering it useless.

  • @NateAdkinsBand

Modern anti ship torpedoes doesn't work that way. The are designed to detonate underneath the hull. The explosion then creates a pressure wave that snaps the keel.

  • torpedos are damn huge

  • *plays My Heart Will Go On*

  • Swedish made Torpedo , TP613 .

    Awesome destruction with 529lb warhead.

  • obviously fake

  • @creativeinventor ur a friggin moron

  • as you can see on the left it got fucked up, and on the right it got fucked up.

  • In the beginning I thought the torpedo was gonna land on their boat :s

  • Is it still live? :)

  • @WickedGamerStyle you mean.. "Did he/she/it died (deathed) ? xD

  • RDHFJ

  • i'm afraid a lot of fish and other wildlife got hurt by that shockwave :/

  • I belive it is "KNM"(Kongelige Norske Marine) ;P

  • SO FUCKING FAIL

  • Use these on Somali pirates.

  • 0:12 O.O i don't wanna be on that boat....

  • That ships now part of the broke-back navy!

  • stop stop we hit the wrong boat , that is the press boat.

  • jesus ... torps pack a shit ton of power these days :-p

  • HAUK <3<3<3<3 den e liten men farlig :)

  • -B3 BITCH !!

    -NOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!

  • damn they make torpedoes big these days

  • @MatandJezzaMusic It's more so the explosive than the size. Modern explosives are much more powerful than the equivalent weight of TNT. TNT is the standard of comparison. A heavyweight western torpedoe generally has between 500 and 750lbs of explosive. Who knows what's on the 26in Russian torps. They were made with carriers and large amphibious ships in mind.

  • and i thought being on a ship is safer......

  • ONE TORPEDO CAN SINK A HUGE SHIP

  • You sank my BATTLESHIP!

  • HOLY FUCK!!!!

  • wow, how can any ship survive a torpedo attack? We have to invest in submaines only, or at least much more of them.

  • @FreeSecgame there are counter mesures from torpedos.... a net can be hung around the ship to cause the torpedos to detonate early..... theres also a shitload of classified countermesures yet to make it in2 the public eye

  • @101andrewj Ships dont use nets any more since the torpedo detonates under the ship.

  • @lilkenny22 ok then, ther is still plenty of countermesures to protect from torpedo

  • @101andrewj

Hello, no there is very few counter mesures against torpedos that works good

  • @lilkenny22 there is the underwater flair and vibrator, that creates noise or light to distract the incomming torpedo, there are charges that can be launched at the torpedo to blow it up, and verious types of underwater projectiles that atempt 2 do the same... + there is also a bunch of softkill mesures like jamming the torpedo via radio frequency

  • @101andrewj

Infra-red and radio countermeasures would be useless against torpedoes. The best way to defeat a torpedo is to sink its carrier(torpedo boat or submarine) before it launches the torpedo. When this is not possible a very common countermeasure has been to use towed or discharged single use acoustic decoys, which create sounds designed to distract or fool the torpedo guidance system, which causes the torpedo to lose its target or detonate away from the target.

  • Acoustic decoys were used effectively during the 1982 Falklands War by both sides, an Argentinian Type 209 German made Submarine("San Luis") avoided up to 6 US made Mk-46 torpedoes launched from British helicopters using acoustic decoys and the local underwater terrain to its advantage. The German made torpedoes(SST-4) on the "San Luis" failed to sink a single target also, and only damaged a British Frigate's towed decoy.

  • When decoys are not enough the modern trend is to use anti-torpedoes, in EU Navies there is a version of the MU-90 324mm torpedo that is designed to "intercept" other torpedoes, in the US Navy the most recent version of the Mk-46 has some anti-torpedo capability, other countries have similar anti-torpedoes or anti-torpedo rockets(RBU-6000 in the Russian and Indian Navies).

Modern Warships are not completely defenseless like the stripped ship hull in this torpedo training exercise.

  • @Maloross yeah, but i thought that only works with acoustic torpedos... did u kno, the acoutic counter mesure was developed by canadian navy less then 3 days after the german navy first deployed its acoustic torpedo in ww2... and it was first figured out when a canadian merchant ship decided to tow a offboard engine behind it to test this theory, after a couple hours the engline was blown to bits

  • Now that's what I'd call an overkill.

  • Bless those who serve beneath the deep,

Through lonely hours their vigil keep.

May peace their mission ever be,

Protect each one we ask of thee.

Bless those at home who wait and pray,

For their return by night or day. ....

  • What the hell kind of a torpedo was that!

  • This is fake aye? I mean it wouldn't supprice me if it wasn't..

  • Nope. Modern torpedoes explode below the target underwater, creating a huge air bubble that lifts the ship up in the middle. Ships are not designed to hold their own weight and when the ship's midsection is unsupported it cracks in half and the ship is destroyed instantly with one torpedo hit.

This is exactly what it looks like.

  • Yeah I just thought the wrong thing when I watched it, I thought it was a launch failure and the torpedo exploded under the boat that it launched from lol

  • im in the navy and i agree they are sitting duck but wen ur a submariner like me. Thats not such a problem.

  • some people may say kill people isnt excinting, so a guess excinting would be the money some may won in wars....

  • money is nothing. explosions are fucking exciting that's for sure

  • u missed the point here........

  • i see now how bad i missed it.

  • Until you get hurt or a victim right?

  • obviously.

and if u wonder i was sarcastic about "excitement" Violence is not exciting. at all.

  • well, for some maybe.

for others, that join the army to "defend their country", must find ok to shoot people for oil...

  • i think most of them just dont really think about it cause they have nothing to think with (no offense to all tough badass marines out there)

And those who do, end up in a mental hospital

  • kill or be killed... In the service of your country. Fault the Generals and the politicians ... the soldiers are only following orders.

  • this sound a little facist/nazi

  • Not at all. Fascism/Nazism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader. We have three branches of elected Gov't with separated powers. Men / women choose to serve their country and those elected officials. Like anyone that values their life they will defend what they value. So, kill or be killed.

When evil people say they are going to do evil things the safest thing to do is believe them!

  • I'll take two!!!!

  • Calm down mate, the ship was empty - a retired vessel so no-one died... and come on, its not everyday that you get to see something as sweet as a ship being blown up!

  • I know the ship was empty....but torpedos like many other weapons were waste of money and time since they were designed to sink ships and in effect claim lives....I dont find this sort of thing exciting at all.....my opinion.

  • why so may bad comment i think thats a fair comment!

  • Because there are some people who love to see destruction or violence...they find it exciting and not considering the after effects of such....They only feel bad if their friend or relative becomes a victim, very sad!

They can keep giving my comment thumbs down if they want...but that does'nt prevent truth.

  • Sorry mate, If that video was taking out a ship with people on it then of course I would have a different opinion of it - but its just steriotypical of guys to love explosions. No one died and it was a public show designed for entertainment - no harm done

  • Wouldnt want to get snagged by my breeches to that thing on its way to the ship

  • never ever understod why anyone would want to join the navy. the words "sitting " and " duck" spring to mind.

  • Lots of boom boom powder in that jobbie. Poor marinelife.

  • I'm sure all the local marine life were wiped out as well

  • nope, actually they only sink ships in areas where they are trying to create man-made reefs, these ships are cleaned out and sunk so fish can live in them and encourage growth of plants.

  • now that is a direct hit! nice.....

  • Shit!

  • OH MY FU***NG GOD!

  • humans arent perfect.

yet you greenpeace infused people insist its the us's fault all the time.

well news is, there are people who dislike freedom and democracy.

such as those 'blow myself uppers' in 9-11 and countless other before 9-11

  • then why are u watching this? i think i show my point

  • OK But If We Didnt have guns then No meat AND you brobably feel the same with knives!

  • actually we hunted for thousands of years without guns, or bows for that matter. we had spears and rocks though :D

  • Wooooo! Fucken dead in the water!!lol

  • Yup. Dead as rotting fish.

  • now if we can only ad somekind of radioactive torpedomonster that can crush its enimies with a single blow mwahahaha

  • Ever heard of the nuclear torpedo?

  • @segregator236 nuclear torpedos wer tested.... in very low yeild forms.... and even in there smallest blast form, they often damaged the sub that launched them even when they detonate several km away

  • @segregator236 what is the point of that? why waste a nuke on a ship? or even a group of them?

  • @ProfHubertFarnsworth

HAHAHAHA!! i read enimies as eminem...weird...i LIKE his music :D

  • @ProfHubertFarnsworth Yah man nuke mk 48's and earlier models have been around since the cold war got real going. We submariners call then the last shot, cuz the shock wave it to damn fast for every sub on earth.

    just my two cents

  • Holy shit! That blue flash is amazing when it starts to exploding!

  • Yeah. Underwater explosions always turn water into white.

  • @csengeri yeah...when it starts to exploding is really amazing

  • The target vessel is an Oslo-class frigate, 96,6 metres long, deplacement 1763 tons. The torpedo used is a 2 TP 613, originally designed for use against Soviet cruisers.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • The target vessel is an Oslo-class frigate, deplacement 1763 tons, 99,6 metres long. The torpedo used is a 2 TP 613, originally made for use against Soviet cruisers.

  • How long was that target ship? Maybe 50m?

Looks more like 'Mine' detonation, not torpedo? Explosion is equally under the ship maybe 15-20m under ship (no side penetration)? 500kg explosives or more?

  • nvm, I don't know torpedo tech :)

I understand new fish are very deadly.

    Peace-

  • minced fish hmm and shraptnel yum yum

  • Lol and chopped-up crewmembers!

  • BOOM BITCH!

  • HAHA yeah bitch!

  • holy shit but why no explosion sound

  • The airplane was up very high, and you can't really hear underwater explosions.

  • ooh yeag i forgot but underwater explosions producesses sound i thought because sound is waves of air and they can go trough water (srry for bas engelish i know)

  • Yeah, but this was shot from way up above.

  • mint vid 10/10 from me and that boat got owned

  • Yeah thanks. Imagine you were fishing in that boat, and suddenly...
