It is terribly sad, and the people are some of the kindest I have ever met. They don't hate Us, (nor Canadians, or the Japanese) (google information about the fight against copper companies in Intag, and Junin regions of Ecuador), but they dont like 2 be taken advantage of by companies. The oil spills were caused by Texaco, which did not keep up maintnance on their pipelines, and caused many oil spills throughout the Ecuadorian Amazon. In the 90's the made a small payment to the government of Ecuador, which was left to them to help cleanup the mess. However it was no where near enough. Then Chevron bought Texaco, however has refused to take any responsibility for this destruction

The people of Ecuador attempted a case in the United States against Chevron and once Chevron realized they were loosing the case they decided to go to Ecuador, and try their luck with Ecuadorian courts. Too my knowledge this was with hopes of being able to payoff a judge in their favor which obviously hasnt happened. Instead the case has gone on for years, and a few months ago the people of Ecuador won their case, but Chevron appealed this decision. Dont be a dimwit do some research.
