@zigzagzoo12 It's NOT totally different under senatorial procedure. Lieberman was not prevented from having his remarks entered into the record as read. He was just, as he knew, being held to his time limit.
This is really just small-time politics, period. The Republicans in question wanted to take up more floor time per Senator, and an objection was raised. If you doubt that, kindly notice that McCain immediately requested three more senators each be granted ten minutes.

@OneVoiceMore, I doubt that McCain wouldn't allow a senator 30 sec more to finish, but I could be wrong; nevertheless, bottom line what Franken did is in bad taste and for Matthews to support that is also in bad taste.
@zigzagzoo12 Bad taste? When is bad taste ever a litmus test of the US Senate.

why does it lack "any sense of logic"? The senator ran out of time. Franken didn't allow him more time. End of story. Where's the lack of logic in that?
John McCain is a senior citizen that the great state or AZ needs to retire. It is clear he is not in control of his faculties! Sadly he is representative of our representatives in DC.
Chris Matthews is a flaming gay fucktard that needs to be hung upside down on a flagpole by his pink little gonads and given a sulphuric acid enema using Al Franken as the enema bag.
This in comparison to the sleezy tactic by Franken are nowhere near being the same. Byrd wanted significant extra time above and beyond the one hour limit set by the House Rules Committee for the piece of legislation. Of course liberal retared are going to try and skew the facts, but the fact is that the two situations are as different as night and day.
politics is the wackest form of theatre haha.. everyone pretending to care so much about their positions and then go in privacy and do the complete opposite. capitalism + politics = money hungry loons who fight for the power to maintain their own wealth, and they get on TV pretending to care.. i've seen politicians in real life, and they're worse than the people in Hollywood.
Here's a fun fact about Robert C. Byrd: He tried to filibuster (tried to stop) the CIVIL RIGHTS ACT of 1964. Al Gore Sr. was there too. (Fact check senatedotgov). Of course this was before the democrats figured out how to perpetuate the victim complex of minorities in this country and trade entitlement programs for votes.
You are wasting your time. These "new" democrats don't care about the past slavery tactics of the democrats of 30 or 40 years ago. They are willing to look past the efforts of so many by trying to grab what little power someone is willing to give them all the while stepping on the efforts of so many in our countries past. They will ignore the facts, twist the truth to "fit" the current policies of these "new democrats" while turning their noses at those of us who work for equal rights.
yes, john mccain is a hypocrite...as are most politicians, BUT especially the republicans... i do admire their ability to whine, cry and accuse others of the things that they themselves have done, are doing, and will continue to do....
Come one, look at the head of the democrats. No earmarks, we will be able to watch the healthcare debate on C-Span, no lobbyists, unemployment will not go above 8%. These are direct lies told by Obama. Obama could have had the healthcare debate in public or in the words of Obama, transparency - but Obama failed. The new "change" is nothing but the same policies of Bush - and you know it. You rant and rave against Bush all day, but here you are willing to ignore Obama with the very same shit
where did you get the impression that i am a democrat? sure drank a lot of the kool aid as a young person ( i was a republican before i learned how to think critically) ... fortunately... i learned to vomit it out, and can now think for myself... you sound like a neocon cheerleader... i wouldn't be surprised if you were a regular fox 'news' viewer... and don't seem to notice money spent by republicans.... enjoy yourself and have a happy pagan winter holiday season! peace!
I did not make that impression, I only pointed out that you seemed to think that all republicans cannot keep their promises and "whine". I only pointed out that the democratic President is no better, in fact he is worse - unless you somehow believe how he grades himself-now that is pathetic, grading yourself! Keep watching olberman as your "news" source, the dailykos "cheerleader" you seem to be. Money, can you not see all the money Obama has spent with zero results? It's Christmas now say it
well since the video in question was simply mccain being held accountable for statements like "i have never seen such a thing" when he himself did pretty much just that, all you can call me is a moron, i consider it a victory that all you can do is name call, like a five year old! kisses!! xoxoxo
@Mrcharliebobo you poor thing, you must need a whole lot of love. all you seem able to do, is put out negativity into what could be a beautiful world... extra hugs and kisses for you baby!
It's not the same, this person was asking for more time before he even began. McCain was objecting to a person asking for a couple of extra minutes at the end of his time - can you not see the difference? I do agree that both are close in the way it is presented in this video, however we all understand what creative editing can do.
Sen. Mark Dayton (D-MN) spoke in favor of an amendment offered by Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) that would have restricted Bushs constitutional powers to wage war against Iraq. After a minute and a half, Dayton ran out of time, prompting this exchange: The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senators time has expired. Mr. DAYTON. I ask for unanimous consent that I have 30 seconds more to finish my remarks. Mr. McCAIN. I object.

Why is this no longer available under the C-Span archive?? Funny, you can find everything else, however this one thing appears to be lost, the tape both video and audio is "blank".
@armyofonerd that is very interesting. i guess it falls under the heading of senatorial privilege for old hacks like mccain. what is his deal anyway? is this just his temper for being nationally humiliated or is he actually thinking of running again?
@tishhead are "old hacks" also considered for Liberman?? Come one, they are all a bunch of "old hacks". The sit around, trying to make a deal, pretending to promote transparency while doing everything in secret. As I said before, anything can be edited into what the "left" says are snippits, however as I said, if it is what it appears it to be, it does look bad for McCain.
You Tube is a disaster for the Republican party. Listen to the right spin this one....He spoke for an HOUR (it's a time thing, you know), or..It was a senator from Hawaii (nice try buddy), or..he objected, but had no power.....Oh yes, You Tube is a disaster for the Republican party.

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Poor leftist vomits, wannabe-olbermanns, the difference IS that McCain said NO MORE TIME but he was NOT in charge of the meeting -- McCain had NO power over it. The one giving extra time was the person at the begging saying you have 29 MINUTES.
But Al franken was IN CHARGE of the meeting -- he was in POWER AND CONTROL over it. He denied the extra time. FIRST TIME IN HISTORY
lol you will never see reality. Why do you protect these people who dont give a fuck about you? it is so strange. Republicans are the perfect nazis. They love authority so much that if you question it you are considered anti american.
I think if you look closer it is the other way around, but then again if any lib was capable of seeing how lopsided and narrow-minded their thought process was their head would explode.
yeh thast why liberals have already turned on obama. Bush could have killed half the nation and the repubs would still be like "GOD BLESS AMERICA YALL"
When questioned about this Chris Matthews admitted that he based his "Opinion" that it was McCain who objected on his ability to recognize John McCains Voice rather than the actual Senate record. Which clearly states that it was the Senator from Hawaii who objected. Another Liberal FAIL !
@hobo59 please check out the Congressional Record transcript. Sen Dayton of Minnesota asks for 30 seconds to complete his remarks and McCain objects. Oh those pesky facts.
Funny thing is I did check the congressional record and found only 68 instances of McCain objecting and not a one of them was against another Senators time. I even left a link but I guess the person who posted this trash video decided to remove that post. As I was stating. It is a common tactic for the liberals to try and silence their opponents just like the poster did to my post. Darn those pesky facts and proof of it by your sides actions !
Yep I just tried posting it again for the fools post above yours. But I guess that he'll have to learn to do a Congressional record search for himself. of course he wont because he's one of the fools who is so easily fooled by the needya, I mean the media. lol
@hobo59 Sorry HBO. But I trust the Hardball staff's reporting on this more than some guy named "hobo59" on YouTube. Where did you "check?" Some right wing blog? Cite your source of GTFO>STFU.
Seriously you don't know how to Google congressional record and look it up on your own ? No wonder, I'm arguing with a bunch of mental midgets who haven't the foggiest clue about anything. Go back to school you kids and try to learn something useful. Sheesh !
Sir, you claimed you had a link that you had previously posted. I asked to see it. You seemed very angry by the fact that you were not allowed to display it. If you have facts, why would you not show them? I'm still looking forward to something other than ad hominem attacks. I am simply requesting the link you claimed you had that disproved this video.
McCain is a guy that flip flops on alot of things, could be that the only thing he knows is war? Maybe it's time to elect people with brains and knowledge instead of fame
Senator Byrd was asking for more time for the Senator from Minnisota and McCain in the audience, objected...In the c-span archives, there is over 1minute gape missing on this tape of that particular moment!
Maybe if they had a mandatory retirement age in the Senate, old fools like this one would not drag down the debate. The Grand Pooh-Bah of the KKK talks so slowly due to his dementia riddled mind that he was asking for more time, over and above his HOUR to speak...an HOUR!!! Maybe that included time to change his Depends. As for the leg tingler...he is from W Va...not Minn, you turd!!!
Let's just start with lies from MSNBC that are real easy for you to understand. Though MSNBC hopes your too stupid to think for yourself.
HERE is the lying MSNBC manipulation cover up, fear mongering edited video: Video youtube search = UYKQJ4-N7LI
HERE is the video of the whole man the real man that MSNBC was saying was a white racist at an Obama rally, when you see his whole body, : Video youtube search = KfN7woo2xRY
Nice way to put on your political manipulation show and support for people to keep being lied to by you, politicians and the corrupt media. Why don't you go ahead and run the MSNBC footage that said a white man, you couldn't tell from their editing as they only showed his hip and gun, was at an Obama rally with an automatic weapon so they could drum up a race war by saying it was racially motivated. But turned out the man they showed was not white but was "black"
apparently, mccain forgot that someone actually keeps a record of what is said on the floor of the senate. maybe palin WAS the smart one on the ticket.
RBConifer is correct. Strangely, there is a gap in the C-SPAN archives of this exchange on the Senate floor but the transcripts of this exchange is clear, McCain abjects to granting Senator Dayton an additional minute to conclude his statements. The footage resumes with Senator Byrd requesting a minute of his time for Mr. Dayton which is abjected to by Mr. Mc Cain. Oh and MrTropicT, isn't there a tea-bagging somewhere that requires your participation?
Sorry people - in one case you have Lieberman asking for "a moment" to finish his comment. In this video you have a senator asking for a significant amount of time. Very different. Franken is a CLOWN, and an embarrassment to Minnesota, and our country.
Do you actually understand the story, Byrd is asking for more time because McCain refused Dayton more time to finish his statement. It is the same situation encountered by Franken. Although in one situation Franken is tryin to keep a bill to help American people on schedule and in the other situation McCain is trying to keep a march to war on schedule. McCain is a dottering fool and should STFU.
McCain is TRULY Sarah Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Palin is a SUPERIOR politician and statesman than McCain could ever be. She will be a SUPERIOR POTUS than McCain could have been. She is also MORE MAN he is for McCain wears the skirt in his family while Cindy and Carol wear the pants!
Chris the puke bag Matthews is doing everything he can to stay in front of a camera that is still plugged in. He is livid of the fact that his ratings are at 0% . and no one watches him anymore except the 50 bed wetting liberals with Jim Jones Syndrome.
Can you at least argue a valid point or are you just gonna keep using pointless buzz words? Like 'bed wetting liberals', that is completely off topic and does nothing to help you make your point...
This would have been a much interesting video clip if it were the same situation. Lieberman was in the middle of a statement and wanted to just finish and it would have taken a brief moment. This man requested to speak without it counting toward his already allotted time. This is presumptuous of me, but this seems to imply he wanted to spend more than a minute or two on what he wanted to say. This was not a situation where he ran out of time and just wanted to finish his point.
Wrong. The C-Span video had a gap in it. McCain objected to Sen Dayton of MN getting an additional minute to finish his statement. Byrd asked that some of his time be allocated to Dayton. And McCain objected. Same thing! But McCain has never seen it happen before. BS!
@MrFolds24 The video does not show Sen Dayton of MN requesting more time and being turned sown by McCain. That is what Byrd was complaining about. There is a gap in the C-Span video. Imagine that. But there are transcripts.
It is a lie by MSNBC and Chris Mathews. In the video footage above John McCain never Objected Senator from Minnesota or any other senator from taking an extra minute to finish their remarks. He objected to a senator calling up another senator to use his time but that the time used not go towards the first senators hour of time during cloture.
By the way... I am not a Republican. They need to get out of Washington also...unless they oppose...healthscare, cap and tax, and any other careless "spending bill" Dems have been running this country (into the ground) since 2006. Hey thats when our economy went south??? Hmm I wonder? Yeah they gained control of congress right BEFORE our economy tanked! WOW!!! Imagine that!
@ScorpionWRL595 Man, you are just an idiot aren't you. LOL, Why did I even bother with a reply. What do you know about unions. Unions built this country's middle class. Without them, you'd be lucky getting even a minimum wage. You need the history lesson. Dems have done nothing since 2006, republicans have filibustered every initiative. They are about obstruction, and stamping there feet saying NO. In other words ...let them eat cake.
MSNBC is not "real" news! LOL They report lies everyday. I watcc it so I can be objective in telling you...They lie daily. One of the better news stations is FOX. They don't "make ther news up" or attack other news organizations. Wake up America this Whitehouse is taking your freedoms away. Can't afford healthcare? Too bad you will pay for it anyway. They are making healthcare much worse in Washington. Obama = NO JOBS! Unemployement was the lowest in history before Obama. He has broke records...
This country was built by patriots who wanted to be free from government oppression.
This country was hand-built by hardworking immigrants who wanted a better life for their family through hard work and opportunity - not government handouts - not a six figure government unionized desk job.
This country was built on the principles of limited government intrusion in our lives - not socialism.
I am skeptical of those seeking more power for themselves.
In the final analysis, this is yet one more example of MSNBC and Chris Matthews misrepresenting facts.
It is why more and more people see the Main Stream Media for what it is - unabashed cheerleaders of the left.
John McCain is a great man.
The new Democrats and the Obama administration are all about stopping free speech and forcing a big expensive wasteful and heavily unionized government on us all.
This gives Chris Matthews a "thrill up his leg" because "regular people" can't govern themselves
@DavidGigan WHAT??? did you see the same clip as I did. Obviously your delusional and a mouthpiece for whatever crap you are absorbing from right wing hatemongers. Unions built this country, built the middleclass. have some intellectual curiousity and stop believing everything you hear.
You need to learn about history! Unions have ruined America. They employ less then 30% of workers in the US. DavidGigan you are correct about our history. I applaud your educated comment. God Bless America...Obama the socialist. He has spent more money then any previous president, and outspent Bush by far and we have no money...
Unions don't employ people man! Post WWII the US was at around 45% unionized workforce. We had a 25% unionized workforce when Regan came into office in 1980. We are currently at 12% so don't blame shit on UNIONS because their numbers are dwindling away.
Are you from America??? Learn about our history. Unions are the problem. Please I just ask that you get a HISTORY LESSON before you come on here and sling "radical left wing rederic" Bush was a better President then what we have now! Not to be confused with a "good president" just "better" that's all. We actually had a deficit we could pay off. Not now. Obama quadrupled the debt in less then 1 year. Historic spending on what??? Tell me! That's what I thought.
Show your hate for Unions by not taking breaks and lunches for now on. Fuck it, show those dumb unions that they're worthless by cancelling your Healthcare you may have through your employer if you work.
FUCK THEM UNIONS FOR CARRYING THOSE STUPID PICKET SIGNS!
@ScorpionWRL595 shut up, of course he had to increase the deficit because of moronic Reaganomics! How much of that deficit is because of the collapse? Would you have preferred the collapse of our economy? And bush a better president? how by taking our nations children for an unjust war? or by torturing inmates? or allowing for bin laden to get away while he was still in afghanistan?
@ScorpionWRL595 What has ruined this country is Clinton and NAFTA. When I was a kid, you could buy a house and raise a family on a factory workers salary (THANKS TO UNIONS!!!) Good luck with that now. If your blue collar, forget ever owning a house. Obama did not quadruple the debt where are your facts. The deficit has grow dramatically because Bush never included it in the budget, he always got it funded through emergency bills. ...oh and by the way it's RHETORIC, not rederic.
Would have been a better and more effective video is we had actually seen McCain objecting. How do we know that was even him?

@zigzagzoo12 Yes, your point makes sense, when it's isolated from the contextual reality of what happens on the Senate floor many times.
As chairman, McCain has even denied thirty seconds to extend brief remarks, and he well knows it.
But this is all tempest-in-a-teapot politics. Making a big deal about this is like arguing that tying one's shoes MUST be right over left.
I think you know you're splitting hairs and exaggerating both their difference and importance.

Here's a fun fact about Robert C. Byrd: He tried to filibuster (tried to stop) the CIVIL RIGHTS ACT of 1964. Al Gore Sr. was there too. (Fact check senatedotgov). Of course this was before the democrats figured out how to perpetuate the victim complex of minorities in this country and trade entitlement programs for votes.
whereareyoujohngalt 2 years ago
You are wasting your time. These "new" democrats don't care about the past slavery tactics of the democrats of 30 or 40 years ago. They are willing to look past the efforts of so many by trying to grab what little power someone is willing to give them all the while stepping on the efforts of so many in our countries past. They will ignore the facts, twist the truth to "fit" the current policies of these "new democrats" while turning their noses at those of us who work for equal rights.

It's not the same, this person was asking for more time before he even began. I do agree that both are close in the way it is presented in this video, however we all understand what creative editing can do.

On October 10, 2002:
Mr. McCAIN. I object.

But turned out the man they showed was not white but was "black"

Stvm30 2 years ago
Do you actually understand the story, Byrd is asking for more time because McCain refused Dayton more time to finish his statement. It is the same situation encountered by Franken.

BS!

How can you compare the two when there were different circumstances?
Byrd didn't want his extra time on the amendment to count under his hour for cloture. (trying to buy more time)
Lieberman was stopped in mid-sentence.
Also, look at their reactions.
Byrd laughed and went on to comment about "patience of the senate"
Lieberman wanted the rest of his sentence to be included in the report "as-read"
This video is extremely misleading if you don't count the words 'amendment' and 'cloture'.
Nitrodrummr 2 years ago 4
Again, the clip is misleading because Liberman was asking for a few moments to finish his sentence.
Byrd was asking for a separate whole debate on the amendment and separate whole hour long debate on cloture.

Government unions did not build this country.

You need to learn about history! Unions have ruined America. They employ less then 30% of workers in the US. DavidGigan you are correct about our history. I applaud your educated comment. God Bless America...Obama the socialist. He has spent more money then any previous president, and outspent Bush by far and we have no money...
ScorpionWRL595 2 years ago
Unions don't employ people man! Post WWII the US was at around 45% unionized workforce. We had a 25% unionized workforce when Regan came into office in 1980. We are currently at 12% so don't blame shit on UNIONS because their numbers are dwindling away.
freddymedal 2 years ago 2
@Gymjocked
ScorpionWRL595 2 years ago

@ScorpionWRL595 shut up, of course he had to increase the deficit because of moronic Reaganomics! How much of that deficit is because of the collapse? Would you have preferred the collapse of our economy? knowledge198405 2 years ago 3
