If Nokia continues to develop the Symbian OS as it is. In the very not distant future, we could see the current world's no.1 smartphone manufacturer being force to adopt the Android OS, either that or other manufacturers combined to make Android the 1st place and Nokia's Symbian will be left behind in second place which means losing marketshare for handsets. Nokia should learn that OSs and hardwares are inseparable elements in the smarphone market that affect one another.

It did what it did well, but it was neither intuitive nor appealing to use, and it's app development platform was shockingly weak. I chose it over the iPhone, and it was a mistake. These feature you mention are (other than multitasking) do not make Symbian a contemporary OS by any stretch of the imagination.

It has already been delayed until the 2nd half of the year. Problem with Nokia is it is run by a lawyer that only has experience working for Nokia. He doesn't even have a good history of leadership for Nokia, probably not a job that anyone wants.

Nokia made a bunch of acquisitions that don't make money, they are albatrosses around the neck of an over weight company. The company doesn't seem to understand the concept of sunk cost loss and are continuing to throw good money after bad.

Can you show me how to multitask on an iPhone and show me how to customize the homescreen of one with different pages of widgets and shortcuts? I also seem to recall that it was Apple in fact, who aside from two things, was actually the one playing catch up. If you like Apple, or the rest of them, that's great. I don't. Symbian is the only one that has more of what I want.

@owh786 Thank you for agreeing with me without knowing it. Tried Android. I like a couple things, but Symbian has more things that I want in an OS than anybody else. Maybe when Android matures and gives users more of the customizations that I'm looking for, I'll consider it. Oh, and it needs a great hardware set to accompany it, more than processors and RAM, which, sadly I haven't seen yet. Nokia and Symbian win easily for me.

MS has not copied Apple's stuff. If you say that Windows is a ripoff of OSX, you're a fanboy and nothing else. Windows 95 released in 95, and it wasn't even the oldest version. The oldest version of OSX was a 99 server version.

OSX pretty much just turned things upside down. Moved the taskbar to the top. And now it's a different OS!

Mac OS X is not version 1.0. It is version 10.0. If you would know anything about desktop environments, you would know that Xerox invented it with the mouse for XeroxStar. Apple licenced and copied it from Xerox and MS copied it from Apple later placing a panel bottom of screen and not top. Icons to left and not to right. MS had just bought PC-DOS for IBM and was selling it as well MS-DOS name when Apple came up with GUI instead CLI.

Actually the MeeGo runs by the Linux OS. The Linux is a monolithic kernel what makes it a complete operating system alone.

MeeGo is a new distribution of Linux OS for mobile devices. And it is actually a complete software system.

What 3d gallery? And anyway, Nokia Symbian had the ability to display a 3d gallery of photo since Symbian s60 FP2 from 2007... About pinch to zoom, that gesture existed in minority report, so it's not an Apple invention. It just happen to be the most intuitive method to zoom.
