@atsstockburn I like to think of u ass a complete ass clown who actually thinks the video has any meaning when it's just random shit and she's singing Fack you over and over again. Probably a message to all u morons who think the song has some deep meaning.
The 90's were great for talented female vocalists and songwriters. We got Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlan, the Corrs, Fiona Apple, Erykah Badu, Enya, Paula Cole, Sixpence None the Richer, the Cranberries, Tori Amos, Mazzy Star, and Bjork along with others. In this era, the best we can expect is the likes of Katy Perry with a smattering of an awful, pretentious crooner like Regina Spektor. We're truly living in the Dark Ages. When will the next batch of female wonders step up to the plate?
@tommy9922 The 2000s have had some great female acts as well, albeit mostly British from what I've seen. Kate Nash, Marina & The Diamonds, and Lily Allen just to name a few...
I think alot of peoples seriously over look artists like the Natalie Merchant's of the world, and more recently the Ingrid Michaelson's, and the Sara Bareilles of the world and favor more mainstream pop (Although Sara is more mainstream now than she was before, but has significantly much more natural talents than the Bieber's and Gaga's)
Hi Natalie!! Saw your performance with the Nashville Symphony!! Thank You for sharing your gift and transcending your passion and vision with us. Such a perfect night!! I am so Thankful:)
Hahahaha oh nostalgia really just hit me just now. This song always puts the biggest smile on my face. Thank you Natalie Merchant and thank you 90s for bringing out some of the greatest music we have ever heard.
I like to think the video is about her memories of her childhood aspirationsof entertainer in a boat or circus or perhaps in a future reality a life's memories on a death bed. Whatever the reason great song.
April 29th, 1998 exactly one week after my 9th Birthday. This song debuted and we all packed the sofa and watched it on the old Zenith at my orphanage. Two days after that memory, a fire burned the place to the ground. Rellocation caused our paths to part ways, but I will never forget any of you. Thank you Natalie, the world wouldn't be the same without you.
@sarals17 Umm no....it's called "Kind & Generous." If you look at the track listing of her album Ophelia (where this song is from), there is no song called "Thank You."
This song strikes me deep inside my soul. So many people didn't give up on me when I had given up on myself. God placed Angels in my path to help me get back on track.
Please excuse passion, I've no intent offend- this is my prayer "Abba - You've been so kind & generous, giving me more than I can imagine, sometimes overwhelming me & I don't know why but You keep on giving. Divine Holy Spirit, never could I have come this far without you filling me, may my gratitude be evident, may I shine love & reflect respect for as long as I tarry here. Yeshua, bound by Your selflessness sacrifice, pressing ever forward heart, mind body & spirit in Glory til w.e. I am here.
Back in the day I remember me and my cousin cracked up laughing at that clown in the end saying, "Thank you, Thank you" #weirdness LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Natalie, I want to 'Thank You" for having the insight into true humanity. It speak's volume's for your soul sound's and "I'm bound to thank you for it,"
I love Natalie Merchant! She has a fantastic voice that has endured for over 20 years, she's pretty, and has a kind and sensitive soul. Smoooch to you, Natalie!
I just went to a remembrance event for Jack Layton, and someone sang this song in his memory. What a tremendous loss for Canada, and what a great song to commemorate someone who's given so much their entire life.
I hear this song at work all the time. Honestly, it didn't sound like she was saying "Thank You" so it caught my attention...like "How can they play that on the radio?!" but now I know the song and love it!
This song reminds me of my dad, "Papa Bean Garcia." He is a pure ball of positive light, willing to give and give as long as love and understanding are being expressed to him. (Along with his angel partner Heather, his beloved wife.) I am truly gracious for them......
I remember this song on the radio when I was a child. Hadn't heard it for years until one day a colleague of mine started humming and I couldn't help going, "OMG! I remember that song!" but neither of us could remember the words or who sang it. Spent the better part of the day searching online until I finally ended up here. Such a sweet song :)
How nice to see the legendary Gene Pool in this video(he's the clown on the unicycle). He's a brilliant creator of things like The Grass Car, The Grass Suit, The Can Man, The Money Suit and more. Nice song Natalie, really a perfect video to match the song.
This song Is Beyond wonderful!!!! It makes me think of sooo many kind & awesome folks I have met & loved! It gives me gooswes bumps! How could you not love this tune! It too took me a long time to locate the cd. Soo grateful I have it now.
@djtrixen I'm so sorry for your loss... This is a beautiful song and I'm sure it was a lovely tribute. I know you'll always remember her... I'll pray for your continued healing.
Wow at last. It seriously took me years to find this song, which I achieved today. I remember hearing this when I was 9 or 10 years old at the time it came out, I have always tried to find it but all I could remember was the la la la la la la la's so that made it pretty difficult. But I was in the Ingles today and heard the song Carnival by her and I was like: I KNOW thats the same girl singing so I searched her other songs and here I am... ;)
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE LITTLE GIRL IN THIS VIDEO? WAS SHE REALLY CARNEY OR JUST SIMPLY A FIGURE? I ASK BECAUSE NATALIE SHOWS SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THIS BABY GIRL. WAS THIS AN IMAGE OF HER ONLY DAUGHTER OR A THOUGH OF AN IMAGE OF HER DAUGHTER??????
well, 6 of em had childhood accidents at a circus, 12 of them are mortally afraid of people with facepaint, and 8 of them don't like it cause there's no METAL RIFFAGE going on. not sure about the rest, though...
ohhhh god!!! I Love you Mr. Michael Scott!!! u sir have truly touched my heart and i hope you & Holly prosper in colorado!!!!u will be missed much more than these words can convey!!! could his final episode been any sadder??? oh and its not just you, natalie is smokin hottt!!!!
this song would have been so good for Oprah's last show, since soooo many people are thankful for it including me :) this song is also for my mom because I am sooo lucky and thankful everyday to have an amazingly kind, funny and smart mom like her. <3
I want to thank my birth mom who was from El Salvador for her 'selflessness" for giving me up for adoption. I never knew you but I know you loved me and your decision to give me a better life, was the ultimate sacrifice. To my adopted Mom Barbara, I give you my admiration for choosing me at three months old and for loving me all of my 43 years. Life is not perfect, but Love is and I "thank you, thank you, thank you" both of Mothers.
Whenever I hear: "and I never would have come this far without you" I always think of my dad and my going to med school. If it wasn't for him, there is literally no way that I would be on my way to being a doctor.
I could live with her for the rest of my life, despite the fact that she is a dwarf. She'd have to sing me to sleep every night. But, in return I'd defend her from bears and what not...
@Mykal94 I hate that he left. This song played when he was gonna leave the first time. I forgot what season it was. They should have played it on his last show.
@MrLaughOutLoudComedy I was hoping for it too. I thought they might do it but I'm not surprised they didn't. Definitely would have been a nice touch for the extremely die hard fans and The Office is sort of known for that kind of thing.
I dedicate this song to my best friend/boyfriend/fiance :) He was always there for me during my last relationship. He helped me through all the pain I suffered and I thank him everyday :) This ones for you honey! :D
1998 was a great year, also for music. Kind and Generous, Closing Time, All My Life, Torn, Save Tonight, Iris, etc. Man, screw this auto tuned disney pop,Radios refuse to play it thatnk god, but it is still so popular.

@sclock2 It is people like you who will never be able to see the order in chaos.
this is why LSD, Shrooms, Salvia, Datura, etc will always be a far reach for you.
Sure, you can poison yourself with them, but even those given the Key don't know how to turn it.
If you can't enjoy random scenes from a reconstructed circus, then you are doomed.

I dedicate this song to my best friend/boyfriend/fiance :) He was always there for me during my last relationship. He helped me through all the pain I suffered and I thank him everyday :) This ones for you honey! :D

I remember when I was a kid, I thought she was saying,
"I want to vacuum, vacuum,
Vacuum, vacuum,
Vacuum, vacuum..."
Did anybody else hear that?
Nice song regardless.

@psychnola all i could recollect was "Thank You Thank you" which actually helped me find this song.
Vacuum Vacuum is a perfect parody. hehe

1998 was a great year, also for music. Kind and Generous, Closing Time, All My Life, Torn, Save Tonight, Iris, etc. Man, screw this auto tuned disney pop,Radios refuse to play it thatnk god, but it is still so popular.
