  • are her locs real or genie?

  • @StrawberryStina i've had locs for 8 years, they are 100% mine and not synthetic.

  • @chescalocs Whoa, awesome!!!

  • Last night I needed a style to try for today. I actually did this style...LOVED it..and was easy...Thansk for your creativity and tutorials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • just a suggestion for some super amazing hairbands... if you have a walgreens near by, they have started to sell rubber elastics (the entire elastic is made of what feels like silcone). you literally cannot stretch those bad boys out... I've tried! I have REALLY thick hair... now they probably won't work on all of your hair at once but for your small parts, it's better than the traditional cloth type elastics for SURE!!

google: scunci no slip grip evolution

    they are epic!!

  • love it!!! im getting dreadlocks in 2 years and they're going to be thinker than yours, maber 2.5/3 times bigger....hopefully when i do this it will look as good as yours!

  • Thank you so much!! I was on the verge of cutting my locks off...I've been locking since 2005 and they are down the middle of my back. Growing very tired of them dangling in my face and getting in the way. Found your video. Awesome! I appreciate you taking the time to show us your tricks. It's looks like you went to a salon to get your updo! Thanks again. How do I subscribe.

  • Chescaleigh, you are my loc mentor! After 2 years of being natural (2nd Nappiversary is 9/20) I have decided to loc my hair....and your videos have been such an insiration!! Thanks!

  • Wow, I am so happy I found your video! My locks are thick, and heavy and down to my waist. Been growing them for almost 10 years and I have been so frustrated trying to style them in some way more interesting than a ponytail. But I could never seem to control the unravelling for any updo I managed to make. Now I know the secret is in BIG hair pins and hair ties! This hairstyle is beautiful and so easy to do--I love it! Thank you Chescaleigh; you're my shero! :)

  • How do you keep the ends of your locs from becoming thick, and fuzzy?

  • you're pretty.

  • tat real perty

  • this style is too beautiful!! I cant wait to try it!

  • Hi,

I had Dreads for more than 10 years and never did any style with them. Since I started watching your videos and others from Youtube, i am so inspire!! I will send you couples of pictures.

    Merci!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting... You are such a good instructor... LOL I did my first sucessful style today. I'm so proud I'll be sending a pic lol. Keep the videos coming... Namaste

  • So easy. i luv it

  • Love it! quick and easy and going into favs.

  • beautiful updo. i cant wait for my locs to grow out to try it.

  • Love the style. Thanks.

  • OMG Chesca!

I did my hair like this today for work and it was so cute, I actually put on makeup. I never put on makeup for work! Thx for the inspiration!

  • U NEED MORE STYLES FOR DUDS!!! LOL :-)

  • @GeminiNicca I meant dudes lol

  • gorgeous! i am definitely going to try both styles for a night out as well as for work! thanks so much for posting :)

  • Thanks!! this was quick and easy. I never know what to do with my locs. This was quick and simple and pretty!!!

  • hey i tried that same hair style. i like it. i just wish there were more tutorials for men on here. every style that i do r for females. so i try to make it look more manly.

  • I'm sorry! I don't know many men's styles only because the styles I come up with I do for myself. I'm glad you were able to try this one though

  • Honney sweet hair-do. Congratulation. You're talented.

  • thank you!

  • Your locs are pretty. Please keep them even after you make it BIG in hollywood..lol. Thanks for your tutorials

  • aw thanks! you're sweet :)

  • You have such gorgeous locs you make me wish my sisterlocks were thicker God Bless

  • i'm pretty sure you can combine them into thicker locs...

  • Very pretty!! Thanks for posting!

  • Your locs are far from unkempt (that uneducated "unkept" comment made me laugh out loud). I find that most people who speculate that locs are dirty are just projecting...If such a person had locs, they would probably keep them dirty.

Thanks for another great hair idea.

  • forget whoever made the comment about locs "looking dirty". i got my just had my starter locs put in yesterday so MORE POWER TO DIRT! some people can be so ignorant. You rock Chescaleigh and you're gorgeous wit locs and all. :)

  • congrats on your hair journey! i don't mind those people and neither should you. i'm happy to be nappy :)

  • I think your hair looks GORGEOUS! I just cut off all my relaxed hair, it will be a while before I can do a style like this :(

  • turns out, my hair isn't dirty. even though you think it looks that way. not interested in if you think i'm pretty or not but thanks for trying.

and don't worry, i'm not offended. but you have to realize how silly it is to say something rude and then tell the person not to get offended. that's a complete oxymoron.

  • hot armpit

  • haa! thanks!

  • Ha! i thought that was a special effect at first! rotfl

    (mirror opening)

    yeeeeahhhhh,been a long day

  • Thanks for this video, I'm going to try it out! =)

  • What do u do 2 keep lint out of ur locs?

  • you have the most beautiful simple updos....... gogirl i gotta subscribe

  • *sigh* I love this style but my locks aren't long enough! Gah!

  • beautiful and simple... your hair is nice

  • I love your locs! I hope my hair looks like yours when it gets longer lol

  • love this simple style, i tried it for a wedding that i had only and hour to get prepare for. thank you. keep posting.

  • You are a god send.. Thanks for showing your how tos..I have shoulder length locs and I was getting ambivalent wearing them in the same style.. Thanks to this post, I'm sporting an updo tomorrow.... Keep them coming...

  • i think ur hair look fabulous even before the updo. how did you achieve that look? was that a braidout?

  • thanks! this is actually the result of a week old roller set

  • did u get ya hair interlocked or something

  • No, I don't interlock my hair. I retwist my new growth every 2-3 weeks

  • wow shorter than me i let mines dew for atlease 5 weeks tuh 6 but wuz up anyways tomarrow my B DAy Can u shout me out Augest 15th 1992 ill be 17 yay

  • shawnta took her locs down, those are the only two for far, so i just thought you might be next, i'm glad to hear your still going strong :)

  • i'm tempted! but not yet. a few of my friends have recently combed theirs out too. it's such a strange coincidence

  • Thanx soooo much! :o)

  • many people who have done loc tutiorals on here, have started taking there locs down. it is very disappointing, do you think you will be NEXT?

  • really? i know fauryn took hers down, but who else?

nope, not anytime soon. i'd like mine to get a little bit longer before i contemplate taking them down

  • ohmygoodness! i just saw shawnta's video!! i think she looks beautiful, but i'm really surprised that she picked hers out. i didn't see that coming...

  • I havent seen all the comments here but what did Shawnta do?

  • she combed out her locs!

  • also, i think she is called msned

  • nope, we're talking about shawnta715. different person

  • no, you asked: "really? i know fauryn took hers down, but who else?"

so i said the other person who took them down is msned12. i already know about shawnta715. so the tally is that there are at least three youtube loc bloggers who have taken down their locs.

  • Sorry, I completely misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying

  • That is soooo cute..I can't wait till my locks are long enough to do this..mine are barely touching the back of my neck and I have no idea how to style them..

  • have you seen my happy birthday hair video? there are a few shorter styles in that video. you can always do a braid out or rollers. you can also play with your bangs and throw in some accessories. hang in there!

  • Hey....i have always loved your dreads...they have really grown...question...I am 5 months into locking and my locks are locking, but there are lot of scraggly pieces that hang off the lock...like i have to take the stray pieces and wrap around the lock...does that go away? Thanks

  • yes, the stray pieces will go away once your hair is completely loced which can take up to a year. just be patient!

  • Love it! Will try this on my locs!

  • Simple & Beautiful :-)

  • Love the style but would like to know what do you do about lent

  • i think you mean lint :)

i've been fortunate not to have that many problems with lint, but the best suggestion i have is to start using dark colored towels when you dry your hair. i use dark navy blue as opposed to white or grey. also, wrapping your hair at night and using a silk pillowcase is helpful too. most of the lint that locs attract are from towels and pillows. hope that helps! best of luck

  • i wish i could do this. i dont think my locs are long enough tho. haha

    nice do

  • luvlivlife23 inspired me too with that braid vid. Very versatile!

  • Thanks for this! I'm not good at styling and this is really well done and shows me that I can do it. Plus it's quick which I like lol!

  • i did the criss cross ponytail bun from her vid for my holiday party last year. it came out great on my locs, but i didn't do a bun in the back, i did a ponytail. and i didn't use any pins, i just tucked the hair into the ponytail holder.

  • cool! the style is actually called a basket weave, i just forgot to mention it in the video.

  • no, i didn't do the basket weave one. i just criss crossed the two front pieces like she did in style #1. i want to try to do it with a basket weave in the front, though! i was afraid it would look too bulky with locs, but it looked great when you did it!

  • i luv it -gr8 job& super fast !

  • gonna try this one 4 sure...thanks :)

  • I saw this style done before; however, I like the way you use the ponytail holders on the end of your locks to control the flyaway locks.

Thanks! I plan to try this style this weekend.

  • yeah, that was the only way i could make this style work. let me know how the style works out!

  • yeah i cant wait until mine get down to my back...im depending on you for some dope styles...i heard it was pretty much down hill once they reach your butt, but ill make it work!

  • Hey girl !!! I wanted to stop in and first of all thank you soooo much for the videos their both educational and entertaining so thank you....but i also wanted to ask if you could do a how to on thta lady gaga tyle you did on your blog...it was like a bowtie? minnie mouse look. Its soo cute an dI would love to know how you did that! thank you again you have a great rest of that day girl! byebye

  • that's going to be my next tutorial! i'm gonna try and work on it tomorrow. thanks for the reminder!

  • Gorgeous and really neat as always. Glad you've taken a break from the comedy club in your self-salon lol! U r one multi-talented individual! x

  • Your hair looks awesome!

  • wow your amazeingly pretty and when i get older i told my parents i wanted to get dreadlocks and they are totally against it so i think im gonna show them all of your viedos so they know that their not like cave man dreads any more thanks so much

    Kayla

  • aw thank you! best of luck with your parents!

  • Very cute!

  • hahaha no central hair in new york and it rain yesterday too it wuz so ugly out side

  • Cute. I like to first look- simple yet lovely

  • Hi! Always love your hair videos. I love that little effect with the mirror, I know it's not intentional but it reminds me of that mirror video you did back in the day. Anyway, I love this style but I actually adore your wavy hair. How did you get that effect? Please reply. Thanks much! p.s. I can't believe how much your hair has grown!!!

  • funny you say that because i liked the effect to! it actually wasn't completely spontaneous :) my hair is wavy because i did a roller set last week and it's still curly. glad you like it!

  • crinkles in the hair aye nice touch so i actually finally made it to new york Queens Bay Side

  • that is soooo prettttyy! (=

  • hey baby. it's pretty from the back but wassup with your hair line? (giggles to self)

  • nice beat here i'm listening to

  • check the description box for a link a free download of the song!

  • i love the hair styles. my locs arent as long as yours. its hard for me to style my hair. can u give me some tips PLEASE

  • have you watched my happy birthday hair video? when my hair was shorter i would do pin curls, pinned bangs and also wear a lot of accessories like headbands and scarves. i know it's a tough time, but you just have to hang in there!

  • damn i love watchin this woman lol

  • omg! chesca, that is sooo cute! i love it and i have REALLY LONG sisterlocks and am gonna do that!

  • Perfect! Can't wait for you to try it out!

  • ahh the good ole Bun style! prefered by all evil teachers everywhere<LOL

  • thank you, thank you so much for this tut. my locs are now down to the middle of my back, and a little difficult for me to style in an updo, but I love this one. It's very cute!!!

  • Mine is about the same length, just a little under my shoulder blades. This will look great on you!

  • If she has a child with her white bf will that kid's her be able to lock up? in other words...can ANY bi-racial person have locable hair?

  • every hair type is able to loc. the only difference is the method and how long it takes to get there. i've seen people of all backgounds with locs, including Caucasians.

  • I love this style. I may have to put my hair in twists to recreate the textured loc look since I don't have dreads. But you always do such regal looking styles.

  • I like that idea! but I'd love to see if this style could be recreated on loose hair as well...

  • your hair grew so much...that looks really good...

  • thank you! Yea, it's gotten so long! It's down to the middle of my back now. It's crazy

  • Love your hair. I love your videos. May God bless you and keep you and give you peace.

  • Thank you!

  • i may not be a girl but i still think it looks pretty good

  • Your locs are beautiful...........

  • ...oh so Hepburn!

  • Fantastic...I have a wedding this Sat and I will be trying that! thanks for sharing...

  • Perfect! Take lots of pictures, I wanna see how it turns out!

  • your dreads look AMAZING as always.

  • Nice hair and video, can't do any of these styles yet. Just went all natural starting from scratch.

  • Congrats on the start of your natural hair journey!

  • ur my hair savior lol

  • love the look.. can't wait to try this one...

  • ...I have little hair...on my head that is...Can you still teach out to do a twist, or did you already do one of those?

  • you mean how to maintain your roots? check out my hair confession's video. i retwist my roots in that one and i also retwist my roots in the bantu knots video

  • Im not sure. You ever heard of the super group Twiztid, they got their start from Insane Clown Posse, and have these cool ass Twists in their hair. Could you check for the video "We Don't Die" and look at them and see what I mean while I check your har confessions?

  • oh i see what you mean. ps. that video was scary.

it'd be hard for me to do a tutorial for that style since i don't have loose hair, but basically they parted their hair into squares, secured with rubber bands and then probably added product to their hair to make it stick out. you could even use pipcleaners or another type of wire. the hair is basically separated into 2 pieces and twisted together and then secured w another rubber band. hope that makes sense.

  • Actually it does, I didn't know the square part, the rubber hands I guessed. Im going to have to find out if they use products, most likely.

So the Juggalo's are scary? lol.

  • using a comb, make one long part from left to right, and then make smaller parts from front to back to make little squares.

ummm yes. they're wearing face paint and singing about serial killers. not my cup of tea. but to each his own!

  • Can you do some hair how-to's that work with locs and normal hair?

I dont have locs, but I really want to try some of your hair styles!

  • you don't need locs to do a majority of my hairstyles, including this one. the girl who originally did this style had braids, but there's no reason you couldn't do this with loose hair. most of the styles i do are inspired by loose hairstyles and i just adapt them to work with my hair ie. the suzanne bun, the victory rolls, the beehive. those aren't styles for locs, they're just regular hairstyles.

  • and keep in mind, i'm not a professional hairstylist. so i know how to work on myself and that's pretty much it. youtube is FILLED with hairstyle tutorials for "normal" hair and not very many for locs which is why i started making videos in the first place. just search, they're out there i promise. best of luck!

  • That looks really simple. Hopefully I'll get to do that style one day. Thanks!

  • Foxy ass thang U.

  • Very nice and simple...i have to try this out..

  • This beautiful! I'm just waiting for the day I will be able to do this with my locs. **sigh**

  • what if your hair isnt long enough to bring the two sides all the way to the back to tuck them under?

    huh?

    HUH FRAN, HUH?!

  • stop hating. your hair is totally long enough. and if it's not you can just pin it on each side. duuuh.

  • hello there just wondering what method you used to start your locks

  • i used comb coils. check out my happy birthday hair video

  • Hot- ness!!! Thank you

  • I really like this. How do you keep your dreads from looking frizzy? My locks have a constant halo around them.

  • right?

chesca your sections are so neat!

  • thanks! my roots tend to get fuzzy, but i just recently retwisted them likeeee a week ago? other than that, i don't really do anything to them. i don't even palm roll! how long have you had your locs? that makes a difference as well. they tend to be fuzzier in the early stages and smooth out as they mature.

  • very nice...

  • I love this...so pretty!

  • This is so pretty!!!

  • that is awesome, cant wait to see the next one

  • damn i cant wait till my hair get this l wanna style mine asap lol somthin different

  • Ches,

Love the style...simple, fast and looks perfect for the summer. Gracis!

btw...had never noticed your baby hairs until tonight...do you have any idea as to how many people would seriously kill you for those? I mean we would not think twice about forcing you into a dark alley and pulling them out and carefully placing them on out forehead! Hello?!

And did you say NO air conditioner? Wow! Brave soul! *sends a breeze Ches' way*

    Enjoy! ;-)

    S

  • really!? i HATE my baby hair. it's a result of my hair breaking off after i dyed it waaaay back in high school. i dyed my hair on top of a perm and my hairline completely freaked out and never really recovered. i used to be really self conscious about it and i occasionally put a little setting gel on it to smooth it out, but i didn't this time around. that's partly why i never wear my hair back and always rock some bangs.

nope. no AC. welcome to new york!

  • Omg. I have Micro Braids, and i watched this video A couple days ago and did the EXACT same thing! Same Youtuber !

You're Stalking me arent you LOL.

and soon as i seen this vid, i thought u would be talking about her :D

  • nooo, you're stalking me! i saw this video last year and just never did a tutorial for the style. haa!

  • Me Too! except i didnt Have Micro Braids to do them with so i was waiting to get some :D
