Referendum 2010 LOL, SNP bottled it because of the lack of support! They are lucky the conservatives got into government as it's the only chance they had of getting us Scots to vote for Independence!
@Flaw3dGenius Firstly, it isn't a vote for a political party it's a vote for how Scotland is best governed. Secondly, the independence option would only need 51% of the vote for it to be passed.
Just wanted to say as well mate, you wee right. 1 year later they find the most famous auditionee to Britain's got talent in Scotland...Susan Boyle...so aye, I think we probably were worth it. What did that to for their ratings? probably a lot.
id take it as a complement that show has destroyed any real talent in Britain, most of the worlds super bands are british so are many of the world best actors an now we are just stuck with that sorta pish
@RobQos I feel sorry for English people because you are the only country in the UK without your own parliment. Independence would benefit you guys too
Britain was the Roman name for England and Wales. Scotland was called Caledonia. I'm fine about Scotland not being part of Britain. I just hope the Scottish people vote yes in the referendum because having Westminster represent us is quite frankly embarrassing and damaging.

Didnt like how last series, the scottish guy won and amanda instantly said 'oh well i wanted the other guy to win' wtf u ugly slut, u cant say that, its his moment, and no one cares who u wanted to win thats why it was left to the public and they wanted him to win so away and melt u plastic bitch
Piers Morgan is a cunt. A stupid cunt. But you, and people like you, are the problem with Scotland in the UK. If you could stop feeling victimised for one second you'd realise that it's not nearly as bad as you make out. This is the kind of person the independence movement looks up to. You don't know a thing, you just whine on and on about how you're oppressed and compare yourselves to the Irish as though it's even similar. Blame yourselves, not English people, for YOUR OWN problems.
Hello Limmy, I'm English and I agree with you on this in part. It is good you are about mate, talking about this because it's out of order. Having said that the Britains got talent people are all pricks in anycase. I wouldn't like to see an independent Scotland as I don't see you as foreigners and never will. Seeing this bullshit I understand why the SNP have gained so much support. That and the fact the labour party sold out. All the best.
I'm English but I can totaly fuckin understand why your pissed off, I don't even like Britain's got Talent but for them to refer to a whole nation as ''they'' is pretty fucked up, especialy when the show is called Britain's got Talent.
at the end of the day, if Scotland is so poor and useless, such a barden to the UK and London. if all the wealth truly is created by London, then why the hell would they wish to hang on to such a crippled country? can someone tell me?
@dauntless111 I'd rather live in a poor cripled country than anywhere within 1000 miles of London...Face it, it's a fuckin dive. Scotland is beautiful.
You say scotland is the second largest nation in britian as if its amid a pyramid of nations, you are servants of the queen of England, you are nothing you think you are!
@Eire32FukDaBrits No need to insult Scotland mate. I hear what you are saying, but we are not servants of the Queen of England. We know the contribution that Scotland makes to the UK, sadly the 'largest' part of the UK (England) does not. Hence, our desire to leave. I have no problem with the English though, they just need to stop confusing England and Britian and stop sponging off Scottish Natural Resources.
I agree wi' you, Limmy. Even though that I am a Scottish-born, half-English guy, I am sick of companies saying British when they actually mean English. One advert I saw was for a 'British' board game where this gnome gave things that made Britian proud but not one thing was to do with Scotland or Wales, just England. Another example is British Gas down there and Scottish Gas up here. It should be 'English Gas'. But not all English people are bad though.
to those below. i agree, but feel limmy only went a little over yhe top wi the middle fingers. Scotland is in many ways an ignored country, and i hate that immeasurably. Not particulary engalnds fault btw but the BGT vid is a prime example. almost everywhere i go people assume im english (abroad i mean) and it just pisses me off that multiple people as close to us as spain have no clue about scotland until i give up and mention "its next to england....."
@catscatscatz how'd you work that one out? do you think scotland's oil, exports, tourism and commerce won't be able to sustain a nation of 5 million people?
@dannyb1314 It's not able to now, and your oil is running out. You are better off as part of something greater and more powerful. And you don't have to pay off your own debt or worry about creating a separate military or going broke like Iceland or Ireland.
@catscatscatz the oil has 20 years left. 20 years of sustaining a nation of 55 million. will last a lot longer when split between just 5 million. no, we're not better off in the uk as we pour more cash into westminster's coffers than we get back, contrary to what the red tops will have u believe.
aye, that's the attitude we'll take, 'we can't handle paying our own debt. let's let our big english brother take care of it for us and then give us the scraps off the table.'
@dannyb1314 Sadly you've been listening to too much SNP propaganda. The England subsidizes Scotland 20 billion a year. You can pretend all you want you're a viable country, but an independent Scotland has been an outdated concept for 300 years.
@catscatscatz@catscatscatz happily i don't listen to propaganda. i started off with an open mind on the issue - i researched it, going through many impartial reports and came to the conclusion that scotland is being bastardised and has been for a long time.
if, as you say england are subsidising us to the tune of 20 billion a year, why then are they so adamant that we don't gain independence?
@dannyb1314 They have no reason to oppose it except ideology. Unionism is a Tory tenant. In fact, politically and economically they'd be better off, but they believe in a united Britain regardless.
@catscatscatz so what you're telling me is that despite the uk being in financial turmoil just now, england is happy to pay 20 billion a year because they like the thought of a united britain?
do you actually believe that yourself or have you just realised you're talking pish and are desperately trying to justify your naive claims with this ?
@dannyb1314 You don't seem to realise how countries work. Semi-federal systems like the UKs (and all systems really) universally redistribute money from richer or more productive areas to those who are poorer or less productive. Few countries pull themselves apart just because one area uses more money than another.
@catscatscatz Och behave yersel' ! England is a foreign nation to us. We are not one and never will be. Support for Scottish independence is high, the English government has always made great efforts to quell this support. They have looked upon us as foreigners for centuries, that will never change. To suggest they feel we are their countrymen is just mental.
@catscatscatz You last point makes no sense, 'an independent Scotland has been an outdated concept for 300 years.'. because the same is true of England. Tell me, if Scotland sends 21Bn Pounds worth of oil and gas revenue to London EVERY year, how exactly do you work out that WE are being subsidized? It's a farcical argument which UK media employ to KEEP the money flowing south. Sorry, we want our money to stop at Edinburgh, let them decide what to spend it on.
@catscatscatz Mate, you need to learn some facts regarding the economy of the UK. Good luck feeding 51.4million English people when Great Britain (as a politcal entity) decreases in size by 33%. Good luck managing your natural resources in an EEZ which is smaller than Scotlands EEZ. Good news for you though, Scotland is now a Net Energy Exporter, I am sure that the Scottish Government will gladly sell England some electricity.
@dauntless111 YOU need to learn a bit mate. England does not in any way rely upon Scotland for food and both "nations" rely upon foreign imports to provide much of its food. The oil does not even fill in Scotlands funding gaps and more money flows in than out, sadly.
@catscatscatz OK, so we create 10.41% of all UK tax revenue (which will increase as the price of oil goes up) we occupy 33% of the Island, we have 25% of EU renewable energy (a union of over 500 million people). We have tourism, finance, manufacturing, fisheries, agriculture, and the list goes on. All this for a country of only 5.2 million which is only 8.6% of the total UK population! and WE ARE SUBSIDIZED? I don't think so. You honestly think all the money begins in London?, coz it doesnt.
@dauntless111 The money doesn't start in London, it starts in the south east almost entirely. The UK as a whole relies upon the souths money to keep running. The statistics regarding the renewable energy are likely not correct and even if they were they aren't very relevant. The money you give out is 3 to 4% less than the money that comes in. The Greater London area? They put in 25% more than they get back. Scotland might do ok, but the UKs economic centre and driver is in the South.
@catscatscatz So, if you were to chop off the entire UK and leave just the south east, then that part of the island would still be as wealthy, is that what you are saying? you surely cannot be so dillusional to think that just because the south east has hisorically received the highest benefit of UK investment that this also means that the UK wealth also BEGINS there.
@dauntless111 Per capita it would be wealthier. The money is made and created largely there. Obviously the islands totally GDP would decrease even if you cut off the poorest parts, but that's not the issue here. Regional wealth is the issue.
@catscatscatz Made from what? We have already seen what happens when areas dependent on finance and banking crumble due to the boom and bust of speculative financial gambling! What exactly does the south east have? Oil? Agriculture? Fisheries? Energy? ... some, yes, but hardly enough to make it wealthy on it's own. The south east of England has always SPONGED of the combined wealth of the Entire UK, much of which comes from Scotland.
@dauntless111 The fact that you think the UK derives its wealth largely from the North and Scotland shows that you're kind of an idiot in denial. The economy of the south isn't just banking. Moreover, the modern world is not based off of fishing, mining and agriculture. Its a service world and the south simply has more of it. Very little of the GDP has been fishing, mining, or agriculture, and its been that way for half a century and more. :)
@catscatscatz Ok ,back up a moment. I never once said that the UK derives its wealth from the North and Scotland. What I am alluding to is that a significant portion of UK wealth arrives from Scotland. Please tell me which nations in the world are rich and secure from a service based economy. I'll wait....... but I assure you, nations which have secure, tangible assets which people want, and wish to trade for, are rich. If England were to move all industry to service, then it would be doomed.
@dauntless111 Yes, possibly, but the most successful countries recognize that the industries which you envision (which Im guessing are manufacturing or some such nonsense) are not the future. The line between service, technology, and industry is blurred. Tech innovation is the future of industry and England is quite good at it.
@catscatscatz Good for you. Lets keep England at the forefront of service based industry, meanwhile sensible countries will continue to invest in real tangible and tradeable sectors, such as Scotland wishes to do. Don't you think it's time that London started ot think of England first? Personally I would take issue with people from another nation in a parliament which rules my country.
@dauntless111 Scotland wishes nothing more than to live in a fantasy world where they can be independent AND provide free everything to everyone. England at least is accepting that the future of production is not manufacturing but in innovating and technology.
@catscatscatz You seem to be struggling with this issue, given that you are constantly making bold assertions about a place you seem to know nothing about. Look at Norway again, similar size, similar economy and they have A MASSIVE public sector as well a possibly being the richest country on earth. Also, to assume that Scotland is not already pushing the forefront of innovation and technology just proves how deeply ignorant you are of the Scottish people and Scottish economy. Good day sir.
@catscatscatz you have to manufacture technology though don't you, it doesn't just appear. and christ, if you think scotland is poor on the innovation and technological side you obviously don't know much about scotland. taxes are too high just now though, it's driving business away.
@catscatscatz london holds the headquarters of all the companies which operate throughout the uk. it's a financial centre too, but what has london got in the way of creation and innovation? most of the big ideas have come about north of london.
@catscatscatz So, any country which can export energy, is not relevant? Do you have any idea how much of a nation wealth is spent on IMPORTING energy. If you had half a brain you would realise that YES, IT'S VERY RELEVANT!. Catz, please vote for an Independent England, stop taking Scottish money and stand on your own two feet for once would you.
Hey Cats, can you please tell me why Scottish revenue has been running a surplus in the last few years while the overall UK average is in debt? can you tell me why Norway (population less than Scotland) is one of the richest countries on the world and it has a similar economy to Scotland?
@dauntless111 I mean what are you trying to prove? That Scotland is more important than London economically? That's the problem with nationalists, they say the weirdest and most stupid things.
@catscatscatz Of course not. You have not been listening. Scotland is far smaller and less wealthy than London, we know this, you know this. BUT, Scotland would be wealthIER, if we did not subsidize London with 10.41% of all UK tax revenue. If we kept that money for ourselves, then we would be richer!, London would still be rich, but a little less richer than it is now. Tell me, how can asking for our own money back we such a wierd and stupid argument?
@catscatscatz My man, Scotland would be a far wealthier place if all our taxes were not sent to London to be thrown in the pot, divided up and sent back again (in the form of pocket money). My god, the administration cost of such transactions probably run into the hundreds of millions alone. You do realise, that even without the share of Oil and Gas that Scotland stills sends BILLIONS of pounds to London every year don't you? and we only get 30Billion back.
What informed source? It's common knowledge. Britain isn't just a shortened version of Great Britain. It may be more commonly used as that nowadays, but the offical Britain is Brittania, which the Romans considered to be south of Hadrian's Wall. The Kingdom of England (England and Wales). Plus The Kingdom of Scotland makes it Great Britain and Northern Ireland makes it the United Kingdom. Primary school level teaching should have you already educated in this.
@p4u1c14rk So, from what informed source did you learn that "Britain" and "Great Britain" are two seperate entities? You do realise that Britain is merely a shortening of Great Britain, don't you? The same Great Britain that does indeed include Scotland in taht happy collective. Try to get your "facts" from a more reliable source than the twisting ether next time....
@p4u1c14rk Grasping for straws there I think. I can't remember the last time I've heard someone say "Great Britain" as opposed to just "Britain". The TV show has the Union Jack too, why not use something else, like the Wales and England flags side-by-side?
Britain technically isn't "JUST" a shortened version of Great Britain, but if you had any honesty in you, you would admit that no one points at the map and says "Great Britain". LOADS of people shorten it to just Britain and yes, even media.
@unrealeck Graspinhg at straws? No I'm telling you the facts. They probably use the Union Jack as they themselves are shortening 'Great Britain' to 'Britain'.
So you now retract your comment that Britain is 'JUST' a shortened version of Great Britain? You know, in your earlier post where you said that?
If I had any honesty in me? I stated the facts as to the official names of the countries as they are collected together. In fact, I said in my last post they are referred to as that nowadays.
@unrealeck I don't see anything contained in my post that allows you to imply I'm a liar. You lost all basis for your argument, and resort to repeating what I've said but re-wording it, and accusing me of grasping at straws. Next thing we know, you'll be insulting me over the internet like a true keyboard warrior.
@p4u1c14rk Allows me to imply you're a liar? I never once said you were lying. Besides, I don't need permission to call you a liar.
You DID grasp at straws because you're saying that Britain isn't used as a short term for Great Britain. Like I said, LOADS and I mean LOADS of people, corporations, companies, media, establishments use Britain when talking about the whole of this island.
No idea why you decided I'd be insulting you soon when I present a perfectly logical arguement you can't challen
@unrealeck I live in Sweden and have travelled the USA and Canada and every to a man when saying Britain, Brit, British only mean one thing, ENGLAND.
I mean FFS! There is ONE country between Scotland and Sweden and they know NOTHING about us! We've disappeared into the black hole that is Britain i.e ENGLAND. As long as were are part of the UK we are England.
@p4u1c14rk You saying "next thing *we* (implying there's people sharing your biggoted point of view) know, you'll be insulting me over the internet like a true keyboard warrior" IS insulting him like as you put it, a "true keyboard warrior."
@popnfreshish We, as in the people who read these comments. What part of my view is 'bigoted'? The part where I told the truth about about the origins of the names of the countries as a collective? How am I insulting him by expecting him to resort to insults now that he has all but agreed with me? Also, who rattled your cage?
@p4u1c14rk Excellent insult? I just stated you were stupid and retarded. Yes i took forever thinking that one up, also, it should be a comma before "Or" and no capital O and also its spelled career. :) No problem, im here to spot idiots!
@SugaaarRush Two things. 1) "Or" was the beginning of a new sentence. Lack of grammar on the internet only becomes a problem when it inhibits the conveyance of meaning, and 2) You don't spell "carer" with 2 'E's. You're thinking of the word "career" as in "job". Also, "sugar" is spelt with one 'A'.
@p4u1c14rk Well if you meant to spell "carer" then you should have said "your" carer nor "you" also lack of grammar does not help when you can't string a proper sentence together as you should know never start a sentence with or, especially when you can use a comma to make a better sentence. And yes, atleast my username has some similarity to a word, and i was not aware that sugar was spelt "sugar" thanks.
It's nothing about politics, they were just participating in Scottish-English banter, its called humour. If there was a Scottish judge then i'm sure he would find an opportunity to offend the English. The fact is we can have banter, I mean the north and south of england have rivalries, certain counties and towns have rivalries. It doesn't mean they go cry and seek independence. We all belong together in one country, otherwise how did we, when working together, become the superpower in the 1800s.
@katierianne26 1/ scotland and england are not one country scotland should have separate sovereignty defined by a separate legal system which still remains largely controlled from south of the border along with a media that relentlessly perpetuates negative Scottish stereo types. When was the last time you saw a positive Scottish identity espoused on the national media.
@illinformedgeek 2/in a era when national identity is defined in media terms. and were people including children look towards it for a positive sense of them selves, can be just coincidence that scotland has had consistently high suicide rates in relative terms to other european countries ? While this drip drip effect continues
@illinformedgeek 3/Think of this we have numerous english characters played in river city how many scottish ones have there been in eastenders or coronation street and when they have appeared have they been anything other than wife beaters or low life's ?
And why was david tennant not allowed to use his scottish accent in Dr Who ?
these things in isolation amount to nothing but over time with the drip drip effect it cant help but have a lasting effect
@illinformedgeek 4 and while this is no reason to seek independence and independence would not stop this any way it might be easier to rise above it if we did not feel like a dog on a chain grateful for the alleged scraps thrown our way and forever waiting to see from whence the nixed snide kick or quip was coming.
@illinformedgeek 5 one labour MP said that alex salmond gave out the message of '' stop the world we want to get off"" i think a more positive and truer one would be '' CUT THE CHAINS WE WANT TO GET ON"
@illinformedgeek 6/ on a final point this hegemony in the media of negative scottish stereotyping goes to espouse the idea to the scottish people themselves that they are somehow unworthy in being able of controlling their own affairs .And that is why katierianne26 it has everything to do with politics. And why therefor it matters
@scotland1989able Immigrants built the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. We live in a global community now. We have the right to up sticks and leave for a better life. I did. I moved to Sweden because there were few jobs in my trade in Scotland. I'll be back maybe not before 2014 but I will be back then to vote YES for Salmond's referendum.
Scotland is underpopulated. Salmond tried to get the ex pats home, they didn't come. What else can we do? More people will end up making more jobs.
Mr Limmy.. you're a legend! I've only just discovered your genius and I'm now an official fan!... however.. I do have one gripe, whilst I totally agree that "BGT" has screwed up badly thinking you're not part of Britain (shocking!!) I do think that scotland should increase its independance, as you have free prescriptions and free university education which is paid for by the whole of the UK.. that way you can do what you want, and everyone's happy!... Anyway, why's your show not on BBC1???

@mikebackhouse It's not paid for by the 'whole of the U.K', you're making the same mistake, Scotland is a part of Britain, that isn't completely and wholly subsidized by the U.K. You even corrected yourself on that.
To yulaw3, myfatcat16 and TGHBOYZ1 and all you Scotch out there : English people have beautiful names like ''Amanda Holden'', ''Les Dennis'' and ''The Queen''. Scotch people have horrid, ugly names like ''Hamish Mc Tavish'', ''Brian Limmond'' and ''Fish out of Marrillion''. I bought a Big Country single in 1984, so I know what I'm talking about
@ddramone100 The concept of a 'beautiful name' doesn't exist you moron.
And more to the point, most english wankers (yes that's the official name for english people), have names like Laurence Hinkleybottom, and such like. 'Bottom' seems to be a common word in english surnames, I wonder why>?
You're just mad, Limmy, because an English Rose like Amanda Holden is not ''fae'' the likes of ''ye', with your bagpipes and sporrans. Which you all carry all the time in Scotland. I've been to Ayr Butlins in Scotland when I was 12 and that's what all you Scotch were like. So I know what I'm talking about.
SImon Cowell's dumbass shouldn't be a factor for independence. Because there's only 1 tory mp in Scotland I would say that was a bigger factor.Still he makes a good point.
Oh for fucksake! Who gives a fuck about that sad shite show Perhaps you should consider explaining why my BRITISH taxes pay for your free education when no kids in my English family can have that.? VOTE YES and fuck off you whining cunt. See where it gets you.
@FeignofCordor this is just for comedy purposes, do a bit of research before you go flaming your mouth around buddy. Also there are separate taxes in Scotland and England as well as Tax that is shared throughout the whole kingdom.
I believe that a thirty plus aged man moaning about a tv show that is mind numbingly stupid is comedic however he fails to bring a laugh out of me when his issue is wanton rabid anti English. So in Scotland they pay separate taxes and shared? They get free further education from the British tax payers yet England doesn`t have this. Do you want to tell me i`m wrong? If you think my comment was flaming I would say do your research i was just answering him for comical purposes buddy!
@FeignofCordor Didn't go do research then? This 30-year-old man has his own comedy show on television and this is just a sketch. It is just funny how much England separate themselves from Scotland. Andy Murray does well in a tournament listen to what he is referred to as. Soon as he does poorly listen to what they refer to him as.
Ok so England wants to separate itself from Scotland? I don`t recall the public call for this to happen yet in contrast up in Scotland. The Andy Murray story is a myth , a myth that is used whenever a Scottish sports man / woman gets highlighted on British tv. The separation between the two nations is in the hearts and minds of a number of Scots who have a chip on their shoulder about England. I have only watched this video rant but if this guy has a tv show then I give up
I beg to differ on the Andy Murray thing, he most definitely is referred to as British when he is succeeding and Scottish when he isn't. Whilst that is very petty to complain about, it is symptomatic and does give an example of an attitude that seems to be prevalent among a lot of English people. This is both from seeing media coverage and the lack of Scotland's presence on anything 'British' and through personal dealings with people.
@FeignofCordor i dont find there is a call for seperation in scotland or england. there i, however, a sense of being in the back seat in scotland, the person steering the ship(england) do what they want and we get taken along for the ride, which is pretty true but because we are a minority. I dont complain but thats how i c it.
who wants to be in a relationship, a partnership, where you are not equals? anyways! keep the peace! we should focus on keeping the isles GREAT Britain...
Watch the video " Limmy and the tramp " I don`t see the humour in this video no different to his other self righteous crap videos. Perhaps I don`t see it but maybe you can educate me as to the humour in this......Comedy my arse.
Bunch of ignorant, arrogant pricks. It's always been a London centric country. We aren't as ignored and patronised as you lot further up but it's still pretty evident.
I'd be perfectly happy to move the wall down to Watford and let the pricks have a "London's Got Talent".
Didn't a Scot win this daft competition recently? What's'er'face Boyle?
@Kr8mer You wouldn't go to Scotland if paid to do so because you are ignorant and very arrogant I'm also going to assume you are English. Typical English person, thinks they are the best when really the whole world hates their annoying as fuck gay accents and the way they think they are just the best. Shut the fuck up you idiot.

I wouldn't be so sure; greasy, unemployed smack fiends like yourself need all the cash they can scrape together. After all, whoring your arse out to bankers can only get you so far.
I love Limmy and his show. He makes a very good point in this video, but being a part of Britain, indifference or not, puts us on the European map. If we became indepedant then great, freedom and all that shit, but ultimately we'd need to read up schematics on how to build wooden huts because we'd become, politically, millitarily and economically, the first western third world nation. Say goodbye to progress, say hello to crime, corruption, anarchy. If you truly love Scotland, don't damn it.
Scotland has it's own economy, it's own industry, it's own healthcare, education and politics, becoming independant would in no way affect the current situation, other than we, the scottish people, would actually have a say in what happens in our nation.
Leaving britian would in no way effect our relationship with the EU, or the UN for that matter, we would just be represented as scotland, not britian.
Not to say it's a good idea, but you really need to think before you speak.
Well said Limmy. Quite right mate.

Eire32FukDaBrits 8 months ago
@Eire32FukDaBrits No need to insult Scotland mate. I hear what you are saying, but we are not servants of the Queen of England. We know the contribution that Scotland makes to the UK, sadly the 'largest' part of the UK (England) does not. Hence, our desire to leave. I have no problem with the English though, they just need to stop confusing England and Britian and stop sponging off Scottish Natural Resources.
dauntless111 7 months ago
I agree wi' you, Limmy. Even though that I am a Scottish-born, half-English guy, I am sick of companies saying British when they actually mean English. One advert I saw was for a 'British' board game where this gnome gave things that made Britian proud but not one thing was to do with Scotland or Wales, just England. Another example is British Gas down there and Scottish Gas up here. It should be 'English Gas'. But not all English people are bad though.
You made good points, Limmy. Keep it up.

catscatscatz 8 months ago
@catscatscatz how'd you work that one out? do you think scotland's oil, exports, tourism and commerce won't be able to sustain a nation of 5 million people?
dannyb1314 8 months ago
@dannyb1314 It's not able to now, and your oil is running out. You are better off as part of something greater and more powerful. And you don't have to pay off your own debt or worry about creating a separate military or going broke like Iceland or Ireland.
catscatscatz 8 months ago
@catscatscatz the oil has 20 years left. 20 years of sustaining a nation of 55 million. will last a lot longer when split between just 5 million. no, we're not better off in the uk as we pour more cash into westminster's coffers than we get back, contrary to what the red tops will have u believe.
aye, that's the attitude we'll take, 'we can't handle paying our own debt. let's let our big english brother take care of it for us and then give us the scraps off the table.'
no thank you.
dannyb1314 8 months ago
@dannyb1314 Sadly you've been listening to too much SNP propaganda. The England subsidizes Scotland 20 billion a year. You can pretend all you want you're a viable country, but an independent Scotland has been an outdated concept for 300 years.
catscatscatz 8 months ago
@catscatscatz @catscatscatz happily i don't listen to propaganda. i started off with an open mind on the issue - i researched it, going through many impartial reports and came to the conclusion that scotland is being bastardised and has been for a long time.
if, as you say england are subsidising us to the tune of 20 billion a year, why then are they so adamant that we don't gain independence?
dannyb1314 8 months ago
@dannyb1314 They have no reason to oppose it except ideology. Unionism is a Tory tenant. In fact, politically and economically they'd be better off, but they believe in a united Britain regardless.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz so what you're telling me is that despite the uk being in financial turmoil just now, england is happy to pay 20 billion a year because they like the thought of a united britain?
do you actually believe that yourself or have you just realised you're talking pish and are desperately trying to justify your naive claims with this ?
dannyb1314 7 months ago
@dannyb1314 You don't seem to realise how countries work. Semi-federal systems like the UKs (and all systems really) universally redistribute money from richer or more productive areas to those who are poorer or less productive. Few countries pull themselves apart just because one area uses more money than another.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz Och behave yersel' ! England is a foreign nation to us. We are not one and never will be. Support for Scottish independence is high, the English government has always made great efforts to quell this support. They have looked upon us as foreigners for centuries, that will never change. To suggest they feel we are their countrymen is just mental.
dannyb1314 7 months ago
@catscatscatz You last point makes no sense, 'an independent Scotland has been an outdated concept for 300 years.'. because the same is true of England. Tell me, if Scotland sends 21Bn Pounds worth of oil and gas revenue to London EVERY year, how exactly do you work out that WE are being subsidized? It's a farcical argument which UK media employ to KEEP the money flowing south. Sorry, we want our money to stop at Edinburgh, let them decide what to spend it on.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 You are subsidized billion REGARDLESS of those 21 billion pounds. It only shows how deeply dependent you are.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz Mate, you need to learn some facts regarding the economy of the UK. Good luck feeding 51.4million English people when Great Britain (as a politcal entity) decreases in size by 33%. Good luck managing your natural resources in an EEZ which is smaller than Scotlands EEZ. Good news for you though, Scotland is now a Net Energy Exporter, I am sure that the Scottish Government will gladly sell England some electricity.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 YOU need to learn a bit mate. England does not in any way rely upon Scotland for food and both "nations" rely upon foreign imports to provide much of its food. The oil does not even fill in Scotlands funding gaps and more money flows in than out, sadly.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz OK, so we create 10.41% of all UK tax revenue (which will increase as the price of oil goes up) we occupy 33% of the Island, we have 25% of EU renewable energy (a union of over 500 million people). We have tourism, finance, manufacturing, fisheries, agriculture, and the list goes on. All this for a country of only 5.2 million which is only 8.6% of the total UK population! and WE ARE SUBSIDIZED? I don't think so. You honestly think all the money begins in London?, coz it doesnt.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 The money doesn't start in London, it starts in the south east almost entirely. The UK as a whole relies upon the souths money to keep running. The statistics regarding the renewable energy are likely not correct and even if they were they aren't very relevant. The money you give out is 3 to 4% less than the money that comes in. The Greater London area? They put in 25% more than they get back. Scotland might do ok, but the UKs economic centre and driver is in the South.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz So, if you were to chop off the entire UK and leave just the south east, then that part of the island would still be as wealthy, is that what you are saying? you surely cannot be so dillusional to think that just because the south east has hisorically received the highest benefit of UK investment that this also means that the UK wealth also BEGINS there.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 Per capita it would be wealthier. The money is made and created largely there. Obviously the islands totally GDP would decrease even if you cut off the poorest parts, but that's not the issue here. Regional wealth is the issue.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz Made from what? We have already seen what happens when areas dependent on finance and banking crumble due to the boom and bust of speculative financial gambling! What exactly does the south east have? Oil? Agriculture? Fisheries? Energy? ... some, yes, but hardly enough to make it wealthy on it's own. The south east of England has always SPONGED of the combined wealth of the Entire UK, much of which comes from Scotland.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 The fact that you think the UK derives its wealth largely from the North and Scotland shows that you're kind of an idiot in denial. The economy of the south isn't just banking. Moreover, the modern world is not based off of fishing, mining and agriculture. Its a service world and the south simply has more of it. Very little of the GDP has been fishing, mining, or agriculture, and its been that way for half a century and more. :)
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz Ok ,back up a moment. I never once said that the UK derives its wealth from the North and Scotland. What I am alluding to is that a significant portion of UK wealth arrives from Scotland. Please tell me which nations in the world are rich and secure from a service based economy. I'll wait....... but I assure you, nations which have secure, tangible assets which people want, and wish to trade for, are rich. If England were to move all industry to service, then it would be doomed.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 Yes, possibly, but the most successful countries recognize that the industries which you envision (which Im guessing are manufacturing or some such nonsense) are not the future. The line between service, technology, and industry is blurred. Tech innovation is the future of industry and England is quite good at it.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz Good for you. Lets keep England at the forefront of service based industry, meanwhile sensible countries will continue to invest in real tangible and tradeable sectors, such as Scotland wishes to do. Don't you think it's time that London started ot think of England first? Personally I would take issue with people from another nation in a parliament which rules my country.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 Scotland wishes nothing more than to live in a fantasy world where they can be independent AND provide free everything to everyone. England at least is accepting that the future of production is not manufacturing but in innovating and technology.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz You seem to be struggling with this issue, given that you are constantly making bold assertions about a place you seem to know nothing about. Look at Norway again, similar size, similar economy and they have A MASSIVE public sector as well a possibly being the richest country on earth. Also, to assume that Scotland is not already pushing the forefront of innovation and technology just proves how deeply ignorant you are of the Scottish people and Scottish economy. Good day sir.
dauntless111 7 months ago
@catscatscatz you have to manufacture technology though don't you, it doesn't just appear. and christ, if you think scotland is poor on the innovation and technological side you obviously don't know much about scotland. taxes are too high just now though, it's driving business away.
scottishlad1987 7 months ago
@catscatscatz london holds the headquarters of all the companies which operate throughout the uk. it's a financial centre too, but what has london got in the way of creation and innovation? most of the big ideas have come about north of london.
scottishlad1987 7 months ago
@catscatscatz So, any country which can export energy, is not relevant? Do you have any idea how much of a nation wealth is spent on IMPORTING energy. If you had half a brain you would realise that YES, IT'S VERY RELEVANT!. Catz, please vote for an Independent England, stop taking Scottish money and stand on your own two feet for once would you.
dauntless111 7 months ago
Hey Cats, can you please tell me why Scottish revenue has been running a surplus in the last few years while the overall UK average is in debt? can you tell me why Norway (population less than Scotland) is one of the richest countries on the world and it has a similar economy to Scotland?
dauntless111 7 months ago
@dauntless111 I mean what are you trying to prove? That Scotland is more important than London economically? That's the problem with nationalists, they say the weirdest and most stupid things.
catscatscatz 7 months ago
@catscatscatz Of course not. You have not been listening. Scotland is far smaller and less wealthy than London, we know this, you know this. BUT, Scotland would be wealthIER, if we did not subsidize London with 10.41% of all UK tax revenue. If we kept that money for ourselves, then we would be richer!, London would still be rich, but a little less richer than it is now. Tell me, how can asking for our own money back we such a wierd and stupid argument?
dauntless111 7 months ago

Renji1 9 months ago

SugaaarRush 8 months ago
@SugaaarRush Two things. 1) "Or" was the beginning of a new sentence. Lack of grammar on the internet only becomes a problem when it inhibits the conveyance of meaning, and 2) You don't spell "carer" with 2 'E's. You're thinking of the word "career" as in "job". Also, "sugar" is spelt with one 'A'.
p4u1c14rk 8 months ago

We all belong together in one country, otherwise how did we, when working together, become the superpower in the 1800s.
katierianne26 9 months ago
@katierianne26 1/ scotland and england are not one country scotland should have separate sovereignty defined by a separate legal system which still remains largely controlled from south of the border along with a media that relentlessly perpetuates negative Scottish stereo types. When was the last time you saw a positive Scottish identity espoused on the national media.
illinformedgeek 9 months ago
@illinformedgeek 2/in a era when national identity is defined in media terms. and were people including children look towards it for a positive sense of them selves, can be just coincidence that scotland has had consistently high suicide rates in relative terms to other european countries ? While this drip drip effect continues
illinformedgeek 9 months ago
@illinformedgeek 3/Think of this we have numerous english characters played in river city how many scottish ones have there been in eastenders or coronation street and when they have appeared have they been anything other than wife beaters or low life's ?

these things in isolation amount to nothing but over time with the drip drip effect it cant help but have a lasting effect
illinformedgeek 9 months ago
@illinformedgeek 4 and while this is no reason to seek independence and independence would not stop this any way it might be easier to rise above it if we did not feel like a dog on a chain grateful for the alleged scraps thrown our way and forever waiting to see from whence the nixed snide kick or quip was coming.

mikebackhouse 9 months ago

I bought a Big Country single in 1984, so I know what I'm talking about
ddramone100 9 months ago
@ddramone100 The concept of a 'beautiful name' doesn't exist you moron.
And more to the point, most english wankers (yes that's the official name for english people), have names like Laurence Hinkleybottom, and such like. 'Bottom' seems to be a common word in english surnames, I wonder why>?
Threepwoodist 9 months ago
Scotch ? Yeah, Scotch. Whiskey from, sorry, ''fae'' Scotland : Scotch Whiskey . Tape fae Scotland : Scotch Tape. People fae Scotland : Scotch people.

FeignofCordor 10 months ago
@FeignofCordor this is just for comedy purposes, do a bit of research before you go flaming your mouth around buddy. Also there are separate taxes in Scotland and England as well as Tax that is shared throughout the whole kingdom.
ArjayBlogs 10 months ago
@ArjayBlogs
FeignofCordor 10 months ago
@FeignofCordor Scotland elected a political party which offered to abolish tuition fees. If you want rid of fees in England, you can do the same.
KEATON459 10 months ago
@FeignofCordor Didn't go do research then? This 30-year-old man has his own comedy show on television and this is just a sketch. It is just funny how much England separate themselves from Scotland. Andy Murray does well in a tournament listen to what he is referred to as. Soon as he does poorly listen to what they refer to him as.
ArjayBlogs 10 months ago
@ArjayBlogs
I have only watched this video rant but if this guy has a tv show then I give up
FeignofCordor 10 months ago
@FeignofCordor
It gets irritating is all.
Snarfoidosis 10 months ago

Ahhh fuck em!

If you truly love Scotland, don't damn it.
vivianboys3 11 months ago
@vivianboys3
Read up schematics? Your not very well acquainted with history are you?
jamboliboli 10 months ago
Are you an idiot?
Scotland has it's own economy, it's own industry, it's own healthcare, education and politics, becoming independant would in no way affect the current situation, other than we, the scottish people, would actually have a say in what happens in our nation.
Leaving britian would in no way effect our relationship with the EU, or the UN for that matter, we would just be represented as scotland, not britian.
Not to say it's a good idea, but you really need to think before you speak.
