i played the 3d demo and the 3d looks really good, is not hd but make you wonder if 3d may be better than hd in a portable console, plus the 3ds version has new options ,you can use the circle pad pro in this (i did and feels good)
@Gorekiller6 From what I understand, the 3DS has superior texturing ability, while the polygon count is a bit less astonishing. It basically means things can be made to look like they have depth through use of textures and lighting even though they polygon count is relatively low, but it also means that the sheer amount of things on screen tends to be a bit more sparse.
@AleXy86 Edge magazine says it looks better than the hd counter part. You need to get your eyes checked because i played the demo too and have the hd collection.
@torreskid3 You need to get your brain checked. Just bc a magazine sais it, it's the right thing for everyone, or what? Reviews are just personal opinions too, you know. Also, define "better"? I played the demo too and the only thing "better" are the colours and snakes model. Everything else is lacking polish. And about the hd-collection: 20fps (3ds) vs. 60fps (hd), heavy aliasing (3ds) vs. Antialiasing and AF (hd), low-res reso (3ds) vs. 1080p (hd). So, no, I think my eyes are fine.
guys stfu the reason hideo kojima is releasing mgs3d is because he wanted to show what the 3ds could do and besides who wouldnt want to take pictures and put them on snakes clothing?
This also 3DS vs PSPVita since Vita is getting a recompiled version of the PS2 version on it's Collection athough the Vits'd screen is on a mix of PAL and NTSC. It has the slighty higher PAL resolution of 544P but the NTSC refresh rate of 60HZ. NTSC Res is 480P while PAL refresh rate is 50HZ. S Vita OLED screen combine the best aspects of PAL and NTSC formats
RER was built from scratch and designed with 3DS shaders in mind while Metal Gear Solid 3DS is just a recompiled PS2 game with tacked on touch and waggle. PS2 had no advancedtexture shaders.
Con: 3D (it looks aweful, nothing like MK7, Revelations, 3D Mario or OoT) - it hurts my eyes!, controls in general (camera and aiming with A,B,X,Y? lol.), the menus, the graphics (PS2-like plus Aliasing EVERYWHERE), the framerate (aweful with and without 3D on/off). And a few more.

The 3DS has WAY better lighting (look at when Snake jumps out of the plane!) and character models, but the textures look a lot better in the PS2 version.
@ActionEHamshraershV It isn't stupid. I provided a little context on my stance because I addressed you while you knew nothing about me, and I didn't want any assumptions being made... namely "fanboy". I'll give you irrelevant, though.
But thats wrong. Those numbers mean nothing outside of a technical vacuum. The Playstation 3 XMB OS takes up 48mb of RAM at all times, no exception. The Xbox OS takes up 32mb at all times. Unless Developers can grow RAM from nowhere there is no concievable way the PS3 could run Halo or Gears without downgrades to either resolution or texture resolution. The only benefit you would see from a port like that would be better realised post processing effects like bloom or motion blur.
@ActionEHamshraershV I assumed you made the classic internet-debate mistake of thinking the PS3 only had 256MB of RAM installed as opposed to 512 when you said it had less RAM; I was speaking from a purely hardware-related perspective, and didn't realise you were talking about *available* RAM, in which case you'd be right.
Although, at the expense of pop-in, the simple solution to that is to stream certain textures off the HDD since EVERY PS3 must have one.
PS2 has better lighting overall (1:07), and has reflections where the 3DS doesn't (0:25), as well as some blurring of distant objects for the sake of focus (which the 3DS can't afford to do because the player needs to be free to view whatever they want on screen, lest they get headaches).
The 3DS has better models and animations going for it (0:28), probably to make the most of the 3D effect.
@Mertazord Actually, at 0:25, I believe, is simply because of the increased contrast and the more generally softer aesthetics the ps2 version sport. In my opinion the creators could've easily replicated that effect, yet I have no idea why they didn't. Probably because it could clash with the sorta sharp visual thing the 3D effect gives.
@dedpxl Just food for thought, in the same manner the xbox couldn't handle those titles, there is no concieveable way the PS3 could run Gears of War 3 or Halo: Reach. Why? There is simply not enough RAM. The cutbacks required would include resolution drops and texture resolution drops. In addition Xbox 360's with HDMI do support native 1080p. Obviously not many games do.
@ActionEHamshraershV That's not true mate. The 360 has 512MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked in at 700MHz, which is split between the CPU and GPU, while the PS3 has 256MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked in at 700MHz for the GPU and 256MB of XDR memory clocked in at a whopping 3.2GHz for the CPU.
So the PS3 has the same amount as the 360, except 256MB of it is over 4x faster than the 360's memory and is reserved for CELL, which is more than capable of graphics processing of its own.
@broskiskunk well ist not wind effects its most likely an animated bump map
also i just wanna say that all i was saying was that i think that the 3ds should be a bit more powerfull after all ps2 is eleven years old and the vita looks amazing ive been getting yonsof shit for that
The 3ds is technically more powerful than the PS2 but the fact that it has to do 3d and have both the top and bottom screens in use the graphics won't be much better than the PS2 if at all.
@ethankwhatever Its a myth that the PS3 is "significantly" more powerful than the Xbox. The PS3 is rather slow at streaming textures and due to a larger OS footprint less usable RAM than the Xbox. On games shared between the two consoles, when a game is optimized as far as systems will allow, the PS3 will have an advantage in reguards to post processing effects(assets in game will be identical), such as more aggressive bloom lighting and motion blur, neither of which add to the experience.
@omnimon64 They're a higher resolution on the PS2, but the 3DS seems to be carrying out more advanced mapping and sports some new textures (Most obvious at 0:32). Some people we're saying that the canopy in the 3DS version looked much thinner, but only because the PS2 has a haze effect on it that makes it look thicker. It has been added to the 3DS version in newer trailers. I'm just sad none of the major lighting improvements of the E3 2010 demo are still there. Also worried about fps
if you play the ps2 version, you'll love it believe me i did, but even thought people like mgs3 the most i like mgs1 the most.'first time round 'that is
Why do people always judge a game on it's graphics.. you never know.. the 3DS version of the game might be alot better due to the touch screen and 3d..
And also to who ever thinks the vita has better graphic's then the ps3 is simply kidding them self's yes the vita's games look amazing but they will never beat the standards of this generations consoles..
@ethankwhatever lol psvita better than ps3? lol where is the proof of that? anyways, in this, only thing is the lighting that really makes a difference.
@asdasdasd0071 well the vita has a 4 core cpu and well the 360 has 3 so i guess i dont know about ps3 but it is better than a 360 and im not sure about gpu but it couldent be too bad the ps3's gpu is a littleweak when it comes to 1080p games and the xboxe'sis a little better.
@asdasdasd0071 ok, 3ds can do better than the ps2 (gamecube and wii can do better than ps2 this is only a early demo) also i guess we will have to wait and see what future games look like with the ps vita im not so sold that it looks better than a ps3...
@MetaGamers2010 I enjoyed UC2's story better than Gears 3 or even UC3. But in raw WOW factor I pick Gears 3 personally. Both games do have their share sick setpieces, though. I'll leave it that.
Now did you really have to go as far and say they looked "cartoonish" (Which they %100 do not) seriously you'd have a GIANT fit id someone said that about your games!
I don't choose sides on which console is better because they all have there perks and junk, but I will say I do prefer PS3 over Xbox 360 and I do own both.
If it were a comparison of PSVita and PS2 then it would be like comparing PS3 (Vita) to PS2. And 3ds is like comparing a PS1 to PS2. 3d for ds gives you head ache anyways might as well play the game right without annoyance.
for me both versions has awesome details, the ps2 version in that time the graphics were really awesome, and the 3d version has almost the same graphics than ps2 version the only thing that change is the panoramic view which has a bigger scale of colours
but i´ll always prefer ps2 version than 3d version, because nothing can change the original one, except a version on the ps3 plataform which could even have more details
@TheShadowBrigade he got a point, I mean, don't get me wrong, when Peace Walker came out, Sony got a lot of selling for that game due to that game having great graphics, a great storyline, and extra missions that last for many many hours, but come on, the DS AND the 3DS will always be better than the PSP...and now that MGS 3 is being remade for 3DS, IMO, it look a bit better on the 3DS rather than the Ps2!
@NarutoDipShit I'm sure PSvista will be amazing, that a given, I'm saying the 3DS version of MGS3 look more refined than the one we had in Ps2!
Besides, PSvita will be better than 3DS due to it's HD visuals and all, and 3DS is equal with it own unique 3D effects and all too, BUT there only one thing that will gripe people a lot though, the PSP users will have to re buy the games they have on UMD that will be either converted into a PSvita chip or in the store cause it doens't have a UMD drive!
Didn´t meant to offend you if you thought that not saying you were but maybe you thought so because of my comment =) and yeah 3ds is cool my sister has it but i'm more of a psp person and yeah agree with you on the games but believe me the first thing people are going to do is try to hack psp vita and download games on it like the psp
You do realize you are comparing a console to a handheld right?
And at the part where Naked is about to jump out of the plane, in the 3D version the parachute is blown by the incoming wind. In the PS2 version, it's clearly a polygon! Snake Eater 3D all the way!
@bureichan I'm aware of this. I'm also aware that the original demo showed us that Snake Eater could look MUCH better than it does on the 3DS.
I'm skeptical of Metal Gear Solid games on Nintendo. NES Metal Gear sucked by all accounts. Twin Snakes looked better but was not better than the original, and given the power of the Gamecube it could've looked better than Sons of Liberty, but it didn't. I love Nintendo but I don't think that they give Metal Gear the attention it needs.
@MrLunitunz How not? they are giving a complete overhaul to the game itself, giving it 3D and are using the capabilities of the 3DS. Something the HD collection isnt doing, such as the 3DS camoflauge system, that is not going to be included in any HD collection game. That is innovation, and justice, along as tribute to the MGS3 Snake Eater. Also, the PS2 has the capability to put out 720p and 1080p, with the correct set up and expansion cables, all of which I have, so handhelds are not better.
@MrLunitunz Also the 60gb PS3 that I have displays these ps2 MGS games in high resolution, HD, because it has a program that does it for older games. Because this has been taken away, they are releasing an HD collection, which is in fact, not something to be proud of, since those old disc's should have been usable in the first place, they even released a PS2 and xbox collection previously, so what thats outdated too? the only advanced version, or revised, with any extra content, is the 3DS MGS3.
@NOEXEoriginal Yes, taking away backwards compatability for PS3 was a dumb move, one that probably cost Sony. And yes, this MGS3D should theoretically be better than the HD Collection they're putting out (although I must say Peace Walker for PS3 is a different matter entirely). But better graphics does not mean a better product. They did similar things to Twin Snakes on Gamecube, they did similar things for Mario 64 DS, and both couldn't hold a candle to the originals.
@MrLunitunz The only problem is this, and I had a hard time accepting it, as you and I, and all others who have grown up with or enjoyed the originals, have played them in their hour or glory. These games are old, and the new generation cannot appreciate them as we have in the past. The candle of the originals has stayed alive, but only in those who have played the originals, and newer consumers of today, care more about updated games. These new games are the only thing keeping older ones alive.
The Japanese release will include MGS2, MGS3, and a "product code" for (presumably the downloadable version of) MGS1, while the "overseas" version (i.e Europe and North America) will include MGS2, MGS3, and PW. And since they are both the Subsistence version of MGS3, we will all get Metal Gear 1 and 2.
@NOEXEoriginal I'm pretty certain that they're releasing Peace Walker as a standalone port too, in which case it does seem wierd.
However, the two old PS2 games I'd want to get on PS3 are MGS2 and MGS3, and the new PS3 is vastly cheaper than the old 60GB. For me, someone who does not yet own a PS3, it's a no brainer, especially since it includes Peace Walker and the Subsistence camera for MGS3, which I never experienced and refuse to pay £40 on eBay for.
@NOEXEoriginal Hold on, I've just seen a confusing Japanese Konami video about the HD collection regarding its being pushed back to February which seems to suggest that it will be MGS1, 2 and 3 (and MG 1 & 2) rather than, 2, 3, and Peace Walker.
Wierd... but then a lot of people were calling for a remake of MGS1 and for it to be released as a trilogy. I wonder how they're going to go about this, seeing as the rights to Twin Snakes are owned by Silicon Knights. Or maybe I just got confused.
@TheNeutralFan I have already played them all, so im am pretty much Metal Gear filled. I just want to see an improved version of Metal Gear Online with Rising. More, customization, More weapons, More modes, More maps, More devices, More costumes, More METAL GEAR!!! lol.
i played the 3d demo and the 3d looks really good, is not hd but make you wonder if 3d may be better than hd in a portable console, plus the 3ds version has new options ,you can use the circle pad pro in this (i did and feels good)

ActionEHamshraershV 2 months ago
@ActionEHamshraershV It isn't stupid. I provided a little context on my stance because I addressed you while you knew nothing about me, and I didn't want any assumptions being made... namely "fanboy". I'll give you irrelevant, though.
Mertazord 1 month ago
@Mertazord
ActionEHamshraershV 2 months ago
@ActionEHamshraershV I assumed you made the classic internet-debate mistake of thinking the PS3 only had 256MB of RAM installed as opposed to 512 when you said it had less RAM; I was speaking from a purely hardware-related perspective, and didn't realise you were talking about *available* RAM, in which case you'd be right.
Although, at the expense of pop-in, the simple solution to that is to stream certain textures off the HDD since EVERY PS3 must have one.
Mertazord 1 month ago
PS2 has better lighting overall (1:07), and has reflections where the 3DS doesn't (0:25), as well as some blurring of distant objects for the sake of focus (which the 3DS can't afford to do because the player needs to be free to view whatever they want on screen, lest they get headaches).
The 3DS has better models and animations going for it (0:28), probably to make the most of the 3D effect.
All that aside, I kinda want a 3DS now.
Mertazord 2 months ago
@Mertazord Actually, at 0:25, I believe, is simply because of the increased contrast and the more generally softer aesthetics the ps2 version sport. In my opinion the creators could've easily replicated that effect, yet I have no idea why they didn't. Probably because it could clash with the sorta sharp visual thing the 3D effect gives.
troy1002x 1 month ago
@troy1002x I specifically mean the opening of the hanger. You can see it slowly opening in Snake's eye on the PS2, but not on the 3DS.
Don't get me wrong though mate, I'm not a fanboy trying to prove his version's better or whatever; simple curiosity is all.
Mertazord 1 month ago
@Mertazord Ah yes, I just reviewed the scene again. I see it now.
troy1002x 1 month ago
Sorry for Asking, but do you need to circle pad add one to play this game?
Gidy800 2 months ago
@dedpxl Just food for thought, in the same manner the xbox couldn't handle those titles, there is no concieveable way the PS3 could run Gears of War 3 or Halo: Reach. Why? There is simply not enough RAM. The cutbacks required would include resolution drops and texture resolution drops. In addition Xbox 360's with HDMI do support native 1080p. Obviously not many games do.
ActionEHamshraershV 2 months ago
@ActionEHamshraershV That's not true mate. The 360 has 512MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked in at 700MHz, which is split between the CPU and GPU, while the PS3 has 256MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked in at 700MHz for the GPU and 256MB of XDR memory clocked in at a whopping 3.2GHz for the CPU.
So the PS3 has the same amount as the 360, except 256MB of it is over 4x faster than the 360's memory and is reserved for CELL, which is more than capable of graphics processing of its own.
FYI not a fanboy. I have both.

@broskiskunk well ist not wind effects its most likely an animated bump map
also i just wanna say that all i was saying was that i think that the 3ds should be a bit more powerfull after all ps2 is eleven years old and the vita looks amazing ive been getting yonsof shit for that
ethankwhatever 1 month ago
@ethankwhatever
The 3ds is technically more powerful than the PS2 but the fact that it has to do 3d and have both the top and bottom screens in use the graphics won't be much better than the PS2 if at all.

Good Job 3DS!! :)
skywolker2105 2 months ago
@ethankwhatever Its a myth that the PS3 is "significantly" more powerful than the Xbox. The PS3 is rather slow at streaming textures and due to a larger OS footprint less usable RAM than the Xbox. On games shared between the two consoles, when a game is optimized as far as systems will allow, the PS3 will have an advantage in reguards to post processing effects(assets in game will be identical), such as more aggressive bloom lighting and motion blur, neither of which add to the experience.
ActionEHamshraershV 2 months ago
@ActionEHamshraershV Well, the PS3 can output true full 1080p HD.
The 360 is only capable of 720p upscaled to 1080p (stretched image).
There are games on the PS3 which the 360 wouldn't be able to handle aswell. (Heavy Rain, Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, etc.)
dedpxl 2 months ago
PS2 only has better textures. From what i saw.
omnimon64 2 months ago 8
@omnimon64 They're a higher resolution on the PS2, but the 3DS seems to be carrying out more advanced mapping and sports some new textures (Most obvious at 0:32). Some people we're saying that the canopy in the 3DS version looked much thinner, but only because the PS2 has a haze effect on it that makes it look thicker. It has been added to the 3DS version in newer trailers. I'm just sad none of the major lighting improvements of the E3 2010 demo are still there. Also worried about fps
xxbrothawizxx 2 months ago
@omnimon64 yup, however the 3DS version is still in development so they might make the textures better, i hope so

And also to who ever thinks the vita has better graphic's then the ps3 is simply kidding them self's yes the vita's games look amazing but they will never beat the standards of this generations consoles..

@RockBand971 For games like Metal Gear, graphics matters because of the cut scenes you want it very close to a movie.

for me both versions has awesome details, the ps2 version in that time the graphics were really awesome, and the 3d version has almost the same graphics than ps2 version the only thing that change is the panoramic view which has a bigger scale of colours
but i´ll always prefer ps2 version than 3d version, because nothing can change the original one, except a version on the ps3 plataform which could even have more details

The 3DS version is using real time graphics and the ps3 version used CG in the exact same scenes - so hell the 3DS version is much more impressive.

TheShadowBrigade 3 months ago
@TheShadowBrigade he got a point, I mean, don't get me wrong, when Peace Walker came out, Sony got a lot of selling for that game due to that game having great graphics, a great storyline, and extra missions that last for many many hours, but come on, the DS AND the 3DS will always be better than the PSP...and now that MGS 3 is being remade for 3DS, IMO, it look a bit better on the 3DS rather than the Ps2!
tofer17 3 months ago
@tofer17
yeah compare the 3ds to psp... why not wait for psp vita to come out and THEN compare it... pspvita>3ds,ds
and it's not even out yet but i know it will be amazing
NarutoDipShit 3 months ago
@NarutoDipShit I'm sure PSvista will be amazing, that a given, I'm saying the 3DS version of MGS3 look more refined than the one we had in Ps2!
Besides, PSvita will be better than 3DS due to it's HD visuals and all, and 3DS is equal with it own unique 3D effects and all too, BUT there only one thing that will gripe people a lot though, the PSP users will have to re buy the games they have on UMD that will be either converted into a PSvita chip or in the store cause it doens't have a UMD drive!
tofer17 3 months ago
@tofer17

@MrLunitunz
You do realize you are comparing a console to a handheld right?
And at the part where Naked is about to jump out of the plane, in the 3D version the parachute is blown by the incoming wind. In the PS2 version, it's clearly a polygon! Snake Eater 3D all the way!
bureichan 4 months ago
@bureichan I'm aware of this. I'm also aware that the original demo showed us that Snake Eater could look MUCH better than it does on the 3DS.
I'm skeptical of Metal Gear Solid games on Nintendo. NES Metal Gear sucked by all accounts. Twin Snakes looked better but was not better than the original, and given the power of the Gamecube it could've looked better than Sons of Liberty, but it didn't. I love Nintendo but I don't think that they give Metal Gear the attention it needs.
MrLunitunz 4 months ago
@MrLunitunz How not? they are giving a complete overhaul to the game itself, giving it 3D and are using the capabilities of the 3DS. Something the HD collection isnt doing, such as the 3DS camoflauge system, that is not going to be included in any HD collection game. That is innovation, and justice, along as tribute to the MGS3 Snake Eater. Also, the PS2 has the capability to put out 720p and 1080p, with the correct set up and expansion cables, all of which I have, so handhelds are not better.
NOEXEoriginal 4 months ago
@MrLunitunz Also the 60gb PS3 that I have displays these ps2 MGS games in high resolution, HD, because it has a program that does it for older games. Because this has been taken away, they are releasing an HD collection, which is in fact, not something to be proud of, since those old disc's should have been usable in the first place, they even released a PS2 and xbox collection previously, so what thats outdated too? the only advanced version, or revised, with any extra content, is the 3DS MGS3.
NOEXEoriginal 4 months ago
@NOEXEoriginal Yes, taking away backwards compatability for PS3 was a dumb move, one that probably cost Sony. And yes, this MGS3D should theoretically be better than the HD Collection they're putting out (although I must say Peace Walker for PS3 is a different matter entirely). But better graphics does not mean a better product. They did similar things to Twin Snakes on Gamecube, they did similar things for Mario 64 DS, and both couldn't hold a candle to the originals.
MrLunitunz 4 months ago
@MrLunitunz The only problem is this, and I had a hard time accepting it, as you and I, and all others who have grown up with or enjoyed the originals, have played them in their hour or glory. These games are old, and the new generation cannot appreciate them as we have in the past. The candle of the originals has stayed alive, but only in those who have played the originals, and newer consumers of today, care more about updated games. These new games are the only thing keeping older ones alive.
NOEXEoriginal 4 months ago
@NOEXEoriginal Such is true.
MrLunitunz 4 months ago
@NOEXEoriginal Ah, pardon, I've just figured it out.
God, this is confusing.
TheNeutralFan 3 months ago
@NOEXEoriginal I'm pretty certain that they're releasing Peace Walker as a standalone port too, in which case it does seem wierd.
However, the two old PS2 games I'd want to get on PS3 are MGS2 and MGS3, and the new PS3 is vastly cheaper than the old 60GB. For me, someone who does not yet own a PS3, it's a no brainer, especially since it includes Peace Walker and the Subsistence camera for MGS3, which I never experienced and refuse to pay £40 on eBay for.
TheNeutralFan 3 months ago
@NOEXEoriginal Hold on, I've just seen a confusing Japanese Konami video about the HD collection regarding its being pushed back to February which seems to suggest that it will be MGS1, 2 and 3 (and MG 1 & 2) rather than, 2, 3, and Peace Walker.
Wierd... but then a lot of people were calling for a remake of MGS1 and for it to be released as a trilogy. I wonder how they're going to go about this, seeing as the rights to Twin Snakes are owned by Silicon Knights. Or maybe I just got confused.
