I'm NOT white! Actually, I'm Korean American. And NO I sure don't think that way about Jewish people and Hollywood. You obviously do, since you mentioned it.
Also, having a country aside from European origin, becoming successful and bigger than an american pop singer wouldn't be allowed here. Again, it's the racist mindset that nobody outside the white race is going to be better at something. Asian American's, Afircan Americans, Mexican Americans still do not have strong hold in the American entertainment industry, so why would a foreigner become successful, especially an Asian. Our country is so racist.
here in America, too many people are narrow minded. even though in this country we have people of different ethnic backgrounds, the mindset in people are similar. Similar in ways that we are heavily influenced by "white media". What American media portray as ideal in the entertainment industry here. Having blond hair, blue eyes, is the ideal type in the U.S. At least that's what American media says. Justin Bieber is perfect example.
Rain failed, BOA failed, Wonder Girls would potentially fail too. 2NE1 and Girls Generation? Sorry I don't see any prominent potential here. I mean American market is much more competitive than anywhere in this world. You gotta build a trademark of yours if you wanna be well-known and appreciated. These Koreans group are mostly the same, from the concept, their clothes to their music types. That ear-catching autotunes. None of them really stand out for me.
I was blown away when I learned why the new American pop and hip-hop has changed so drastically in the past few years. Today's biggest American artist have copied K-POP hard!!! It was difficult for Koreans to bring it to our audience because it was already introduced by copy cats. That doesn't sound very nice, I know. So let's be nice and say that some of our top artist here in America were "inspired" by K-POP and presented it to America themselves. (And didn't change it too much either btw.)
@amime0pop, 3. I suppose that you don't think that the American Pop and Music industry are incredibly biased? May I ask you, how many radio programs or how much air time did SNSD for example get over there, or here in Canada, on their new album? Please do give me your take on the definition of the word Bias. Now that we have finished exchanging insults, perhaps you would care for a more intellectual conversation?
I wish them all the best and hope they succeed in the western market. I have to agree with some of the other comments here, boy bands should be excluded, as they will only hurt K-pop in the west and boy bands regardless of culture, lack appeal to all save for prepubescent girls.I also think the american market is too full of themselves and too, programed to accept anything that is outside of their own culture.
kpop is barely getting big here in america but so far the only company with artist that have made impact here in america seems to S.M. entertainment. wonder girls failed and i think 2ne1 will do great but im sure if SNSD comes to america they will change everything for kpop in america
America's views are very closed. korean girls tend to hold hands if they're close friends. america's will label them lesbians. korean guys have a slightly feminine face. america will label them gay. America needs to open up their views to the world before k-pop bands can/should go there. though i think kpop is just what america needs....music with people not half naked/ doing it on screen.
@97FunBun They do that in europe too. Because lesbians/gays will hold hands, americans dont know any better then to say gay because thats what they see. And what you said kind of bothered me about american people being half naked on the screen. Yeah they do that and i think its gross, but kpop does simiallar tactics for sex appeal. Seriously! Their super short shorts, shirts with slits all over and the dances can be sexual. Im not against it, but its not as different as america...cant deny it...
@anime0pop i'm sorry if i offended you. but not all kpop groups does that because not all kpop groups are going for a sexy look. and i'd take short shorts or skirts over half naked people any day, but that's my opinion. sure they show skin, but not as much as american artists do.
@97FunBun what you said didn't offend me, its just that besides maybe lady gaga and kesha, there arn't many other american pop singers that dance half naked opposed to all the kpop girl groups who are having more skin being shown with shorts and shirts that are short too, not even to mention that the dances they do which have sexual movements too. I'd bet there are more kpop girl groups that do that than american singers. Im just trying to make a point thats there is no big difference
@97FunBun that wasn't what i was implying. Sory. I meant to say that having maybe 2 or 3 half naked people directed for older audiences and then having girls flaunting their bodies in a simillar way with sexual movements in a dance and having a way bigger ratio of kpop girl groups doing it, is the same tactics to get more views. And kpop groups are directed for all audiences including young people, so they are all being exposed to the same thing. I'd say kpop does that more than american artists
@anime0pop there may be more kpop groups, but american artists get more viewing and exposure to other countries, not only their own. Anyway we can't really blame kpop groups because they dont have any say in it. on the other hand american artists do actually have a say in their music, music videos, clothes etc. katy perry, lady gaga, they all helped and contributed in thinking of ideas for their music videos. american artists have more say in their music than koreans do
@97FunBun You are right, but to an extent in mv's they don't always get to say hey i want to wear that. Mostly because they don't write out a script of whats going to take place. But like i said these american videos are not aimed for younger kids, and usually younger kids don't like that type of music and instead stick to those disney stars. And im not saying that kpop groups pick there clothes, i know that they dont, its just that they do because of more audiences and older ages.
@anime0pop actually, if you watch behind the scenes of music videos or interviews they usually say "oh when i heard the song i wanted to have ____ etc" And actually you'd be surprised at what younger kids watch these days....
@97FunBun i think its sad that if they have watched those things that arnt aimed for them. But either way if its american or korean, they are getting exposed to the same amount of stuff. And its just annoying that everything has to be like this.
They need to sing in English. No exeptions. Collaberations are the right way to go. Case in point? Shakira. She also tried to break into the American music scene. She failed until she wrote and sang English songs. I am not predjudice, this has been proven multiple times throughout history. Sing in English, and you will be famous in America (If you are actually talented). There is absolutely no difference between Korean and American pop stars.
crazy? I doubt it. Kpop's not a big sensatiion in america, just with the americans who spend alot of time online. For those who don't spend time online, Havn't even heard of Kpop, and beat people up for watching pop.
They will have to work their way around the world starting with europe. Then Canada then possible America, but I agree, the boy bands will have to become more masculine if they want success in America.
Americans hate people who has a girly type like all koreans boys band, why they hate bieber?, because he has a pretty face, so I'm sure if a kpop band like shinee... come to america, they'll for sure calling them "Gays" and for girls group, childish for them!!
They will never be famous over there, and kpop sound like americans pop, too unoriginal!!!
I think the KPOP groups could do amazing in America! They have more dynamic in dancing and can make you want more of it without having to be overly sexual whereas American groups rely on sex and money. KPOP is becoming more and more creative and I welcome any of them into American daily living! They are awesome! Its only a matter of time before they're on American talk shows and late night TV. BRING IT ON!
Korean music isn't going to break in America because they are bringing in music that sound too similar to American songs that most Americans grew up with. You can't have Americans thinking "hey, that song sounds familiar". Just look at the history of accusations and litigations of plagiarism in Kpop.
Just to add, you do not want Korean boy bands coming to America !! America will destroy those groups and forever stereotype Asian guys as gay and feminine. If you want somebody, bring somebody like Mc Moc or whatever his name is. He's a funny character that people can enjoy. Do not bring gay things to represent asian males.
@jdoramaking I'm sorry, what you call is gay, is called fashion. Fashion: bizzare clothing I had the same feeling but gay has nothing to do with clothes.
@BIGBANGCRAZY111 Maybe in Korea, it's just fashion, but in the rest of the world, Korean fashion is gay fashion. And yes, gay people have fashion, as any groups of people have.
@jdoramaking America already has backstreet boys and a few others. If anything it would break some stereotypes. I'm not a pop music fan, but there are quite a few kpop boy bands that make Justin Timberlake look pretty damn fruity.
@bdotalex The thing about America is that the music is diverse. They got gay boy bands, and very masculine singers. In Korea, most of the guys are femine. Yes, some may make JT look gay...but most K groups are more feminine than JT. Just admit it..the culture in Korea is for men to be very feminine. Just youtube "super junior gay
@jdoramaking The American music scene is nothing special over any other country. What is popular in another country does not indicate that's all they have to offer. Consider the tip of the iceberg for the USA. Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and probably just a haldful of others. I have lived in Japan, and these are seriously the only kinds of people they hear about. Now, is that all America has to offer? Of course not haha XD.
@bdotalex I would also like to add that Korea is actually quite a bit more western/masculine than any other asian country. I actually wouldnt call them all that feminine compared to what is all out there. I also dont really think anyone is gonna care if they are feminine. Most intelligent people dont really take offense to someone different than themselves, and theres lots of intelligent people in America right?
@bdotalex The bottom line is, the reason they are coming here is because experts in the industry have already determined that americans like this sort of thing.
@bdotalex Another lie about koreans more masculine. Yes, they are more western as they copy the west. the whole korean music industry is built on American pop and hip hop.
@bdotalex Let's be honest. All types of American music is popular in Japan, and that's why there are so much rock music is so popular in Japan and most songs used some english. it's a total lie to say that all Japan see is the likes of Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber, when Japan is so heavily influenced by American rock music. My point is that it's not a good idea to bring Korean boy bands to America because as a result, the only image of asian men we'll see in the media are gay and feminine.
@jdoramaking your first comment - yes thats actually what i said if you read it..
second comment - When you have some experience with actually living and working in Asia, I might start thinking that you arent just pulling bs out of your ass that you saw on fox news. The reason they are more "masculine" per say, is because they do copy the west more than any other country in Asia.
@jdoramaking last comment - No, in fact there is plenty of music that is absolutely not influenced by American music at all. You seem to have a rather large ego for your country which is pretty annoying. I am not lieing about anything I observe. If you ask the average Japanese person about american singers, those are the names you will get. Plus probably Madonna. My point is, I'm pretty sure that the "gay and feminine" image is already present in America, this would do no damage. perhaps fix it.
@bdotalex If anything else, It would teach Americans not to care so much about if the damn thing is feminine or not. Bunch of homophobes. You know there is something clearly wrong about saying that being masculine is better than being feminine in the first place. Maybe your country isnt as sexist as you are, and you just dont want to believe it.
@bdotalex Being feminine & gay is different in different countries. In america, they r more cruel, yet u can marry in some parts and date openly. In asia, u can look femininen, yet having gay relationships is not as acceptable. It's not an issue of society that i have a problem with. The problem i have is that I don't want to see a bunch of feminine gay asians all over america, which is the total opposite of what most asian men are, just as I don't like seeing asian girls portrayed as whores.
@bdotalex First off, most music I listen to now is Asian, but most music I grew up with is american. Asia is significantly influences by the west. That's why in China, most celebrities have western names. In Japan, music groups have western names and use english. Popular music in s.Korea built on US pop and hip hop. Gay image is popular in america, but it's not the majority. If feminine asian groups come to america..that would be the main image of Asians in America...not an image I want to see.
@jdoramaking I understand what u are trying to say, but you honestly lack insight of actually living in one of the countries you are talking about. Listening to asian music via the internet or satellite radio does not give you a good picture of what's there or even how it relates to the society it comes from. There is a lot of western influence in a lot of asian music yes, but there is a lot of asian influence in our movies here.
@bdotalex I'm sorry but your personal experience mean crap! I'm Asian and I'm originally from Asia! It's just a fact that Western culture and entertainment strongly influence. Nobody saying all, but yes, in some case, almost all, as with Korean pop music which is almost entirely built on US music. Chinese and Japanese not as much, but the influence is still there. Nobody is arguing that there aren't asian influences. To say they only know the likes of beiber and gaga is ridiculous!
@jdoramaking All I can say is this, I honestly dont think everyone will think that just because of these bands. Everyone will not think asian men are feminine/gay just because of some pop stars... and I think the reason that you think so is honestly whack imo, and even they were portrayed as feminine/gay, it should be other asian men to raise a stink about it. Not an american. You are putting words in someones mouth here. What if they are totally flaming gay and proud of it? lol
@bdotalex Nobody is saying they will think of Asian men as gay and feminine because of gay korean music. I'm saying I don't want the first, main, and only image of asian men in music to be gay! i don't want to see that. America, unfortunately is stuck on stereotype and we've been only see thugged out black guys for 20 years now...i don't need to see super junior hold hands and kissing each other for that long. That has been the case for asian women portrayed as whores and prostitutes.
@jdoramaking You just can't know until you actually meet some koreans and ask them how they feel about it. I mean, its like you want america to think about koreans the way you do. It's weird. anyway, im trying my best not to piss anyone off, and failing horribly. lol ill just stop now.
@jdoramaking I totally agree with you. Americans are not that fond of and boy/girl group. To us its weried and yeah the majority of people would think its gay. And the main reason for that is because seeing a bunch of guys dancing together to some people seems weired. Plus if they were to come, they would just not be that popular. American Pop fends for themselves pretty well.
@anime0pop, american pop suck major ass. In fact K-pop is the only pop style music worth listening too. Although, as far as boy bands go, in any culture, their appeal seems to only target prepubescent girls. Thankfully, we have You Tube, so don't have to be subjected to american crap pop, and can decide for ourselves, that which we like or do not like.
@mrgionni Thats your opinion and I respect it, but if you want to be technical and say how American pop sucks ass lol kpop HAS modeled their music style to be exactly the same. Your comment is just amazingly bias and nothing else. One more think for you to think on, if American pop sucked ass as much as you say why is it that American pop is so adored and dominent in all europe, south america, asia and yes South Korea. I like Kpop but its not the best
@anime0pop, please Maggie, don't tell me about logic, as you have no idea what my reasoning's are or what logic I may be applying to my thought. Yes K-pop had it's stylistic origins in other cultural styles of music, which include Pop, Electropop, Hip hop, Rock, R&B and J-pop. I could give you a history lesson, but comment space is limited. Yes my comment is Biased, as is the American music industries towards the music of other cultures. So how is that amazing to you?
@anime0pop, 2. 2. Besides, I don't care for american pop or it's artists. That is not to say that there are not other styles of American music that I don't like. I have always been a fan of American rock. Just because someone else adores something, doesn't mean it is manitory I do also. That question is irrelevant. Glad you like K-pop, never said it was the best, read the words, use your brain.
@mrgionni I said what's amazing is how bias you were. And if you want me to say nothing about logic; instead of spitting out words why not explain your reasoning? Im only asking because I'm curious, there's nothing wrong about that or any reason to get offended. And how is the American music industry bias to other music cultures? I don't understand how that is even possible?
@anime0pop, "I said what's amazing is how bias you were." and I previously said, "Yes my comment is Biased" in agreement to your previous comment, where's the confusion there? Spitting out words, is that what you call printed text? Sure I will answer your question, but first may I ask, why is the word offend so strong in your vocabulary? I went to all comments, used my find tab, typed offend, and it appears in almost every one of your comments. Just curious, no reason to be offended.
@anime0pop, 2. How, well not being an expert in the field, I can only go by observation, availability, accessibility and the opinions of others. I don't know about where you are located but accessibility to foreign musics, even when in English can be quite difficult at times for myself and friends both domestic and foreign. Also certain histories and events in the American Entertainment industry over the years.
@anime0pop, 3. You really don't expect a thorough explaination in the small comment space provided? It could fill pages. As for the comment on my page about nothing wrong with American music playing in the USA and Canada, that's a give in, stating the obvious. Equally there is nothing wrong with living in either country and preferring something different, thank you to the internet.
@anime0pop, 4. So since the computer, I have turned my TV and radios off. I prefer choice to force feeding. Also you posted this on my page, "I think the fact that you only bring up SNSD or kpop is bias" how so? SNSD is the number 1 K-pop band in Korea, and is one of the ones currently trying to break into the North American market. That's not bias, it's fact.
@anime0pop, 5. And do you see any SNSD or K-Pop for that matter on my page or within my videos? No you will not. And yet you say I am biased in favour of them. Bet it was on my page instead of here out of fear of backlash from the sones.
@mrgionni Im honestly confused by some of the stuff you wrote because of its irrelevance. But anyways when I said you are only bringing up SNSD and Kpop and said you were biased, its because you complained how America and Canada don't play Kpop music. Its bias because if you want diversity you wouldn't single out only Kpop and SNSD, but say that you want Asian, Euro pop ect. As for saying "offeneded" there's no double meaning behind that word, I don't understand what you don't get from that...
@anime0pop, What areas did you find irrelevant? No, I had not "complained how America and Canada don't play Kpop music." what I had said on your page was. "May I ask you, how many radio programs or how much air time did SNSD for example get over there, or here in Canada, on their new album?" Please read in context, also this videos title would suggest that you are out of context & off topic on the Euro Pop.
@anime0pop, One last thing. "As for saying "offeneded" there's no double meaning behind that word, I don't understand what you don't get from that..."
Yes I am aware that you do not understand, as I was not implying a double meaning. All I asked was "why is the word offend so strong in your vocabulary?" What I don't get is why you use it so frequently in your replies to others? Do you feel you are being offensive?
@anime0pop, may I also ask, whom are you quoting as saying "offeneded" (sic)? I checked over all our postings and I never once said "offeneded" until quoting you today. Are you quoting yourself, or pointing out your own error?
@mrgionni Yes i was quoting myself. And when i said don't get offended, i meant don't take anything to heart in case i was making you upset. I think at this point are conversation is irrelavent since you made a 360 to focus on the definition of "offend" My thoughts on Kpop being in America wont change. I don't think America or Canada is obliged to have only Kpop on radio's considering its an eglish speaking country.
@anime0pop, I didn't say either country was obligated, where did you get that from? You made a 180 on the original topic, "Will America Go K-Pop Crazy?" by attempting to suggest that I was biased in favour of K-Pop, by omitting the mention of other forms of pop and musics such as Euro Pop that where not the topic of this video.
@anime0pop, nor would I want only K-pop on Canadian radio. What a silly thought! I may not even want it at all, I didn't say that, now did I! I was asking a question, not making a statement when I said "how many radio programs or how much air time did SNSD for example get over there, or here in Canada, on their new album?" < that question mark should have indicated to you, it was put as a question, not a statement or desire. Converse much?
@mrgionni I don't know if you even understand what you are saying at this point. Asking why SNSD gets no time on America or Canada radio's is clearly questioning why there is no kpop on radio's the way you implied it. If i misunderstood im sorry, but you are very unclear in your statements even if you know it or not. I think its just the way you work it, but you have many double meanings. I'll just leave it at that.
@anime0pop, I didn't ask Why, I asked How! They are two distinctly different words. And you talk about assigning double meanings to words? Clearly, you are the one who is confused.
@mrgionni But even asking is still an implication of wondering why they don't have it a certain way! Saying "how" or "why" doesn't matter in that context. Im not even going to bother responding anymore if its just correcting errors in ways things are implied regardless if you realize it or not.
@anime0pop, you mean regardless if you realize it or not. I am fluent in English, have an IQ which places me in the 98th percentile, and am using words in their proper defined context. As well as examining your own words in both a philosophical and sociological context. I am very certain of both what I have said and what you have implied. Realize that, or not!
@mrgionni Im happy you have an IQ, congrats. Humble down a bit. Having a 300 IQ doesn't mean you can still convey stuff properly. You may be certain of what you said, but in all honesty that small doubt is where you stand. Good job being smart, but it doesn't make you right all the time.
@anime0pop, no one has an IQ of 300 that would be impossible. The Cattell III B test offered by Mensa is their highest scoring test and only scores as high as 161. I don't think the problem is in how I convey my message as much as it is, how you want to interpret it. Once again My question was How much air time did SNSD get in North America. Isn't the topic of this video Will America go K-Pop Crazy? It's a question, nothing more, get over yourself and clue into that.
@mrgionni Wow genius its called sarcasm. Maybe you're right, maybe its not how you convey, its just you don't understand dialect. Lets just leave it at that, im sick of arguing over obviously nothing.
@anime0pop, yes you would like to have the last say, wouldn't you? I wouldn't call it nothing, when someone twists my words and conveys them as meaning something entirely different than what they were originally meant too. I believe that is called putting words into another's mouth. Why would anyone in their right mind, let you do that to them? Bet you can't resist this, and will still hope for the last say.
@mrgionni lol! You can respond last, having the last say means nothing to me. Im just defending myself. If you think you are right, thats wonderful. Im not putting words into people's mouthes when they already said it. Respond back to make yourself happy. I really stopped caring, just humor me =) Good day.
@anime0pop, please do a review of our posts, many of the things you claim I stated I had never stated. I am the one who has been placed in the position of defense by your misinterpretations. All I have been trying to do is make clear to you what I was actually saying. And the question still remains unanswered. How much air time did SNSD receive in North America on their debut? I really do not know this and as I said many times before, it's a question. Answer anyone?
@mrgionni I'v told you they get 0 time. Why would SNSD get any time in America or Canada radio's. We speak english in these countries, not Korean. It would never be succesful...
@anime0pop, why thank you for your reply. So even though they made an all English version of The Boys, you feel it is slated for failure, due to the fact that they are Korean and speak mainly Korean, even though they have made the attempt to break into the American market with an all English song. So even if they started producing all English songs or versions, you feel that they will not succeed.
@mrgionni Yes. Mainly due to the American music market being much more competitive. Americans or Canadians are going to want to hear their bands and pop artists. Even then its a girl dance group. There havn't been any major success in boy bands or girl bands in America. Besides if you compare Kpop to Spanish pop which many Americans understand spanish, it hasn't exactly been a big hit either except for perhaps a few, but even then it has to be english.
@anime0pop, "it has to be english" yes and I believe they are aware of that. But you are generalizing when you say Americans and Canadians. Take ourselves for example, or yourself, "Im into Jpop, Kpop, French, Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian and Spanish Pop!"
@mrgionni Yes i am into those pop's, but thats me. Honestly i like hearing variety and being exposed to diversity, but as a rule people are not into that kind of stuff. I am being very general because you have to be when it comes to music. In general people want to hear english first before they would want to ever hear kpop. Even then they would rather listen to Spanish or French because those are languages that are common then something like Korean or anything Asian.
@anime0pop, Really? I always hated French at school. Had no practical use for it. It's a common misconception that Canadians speak French. That is really only confined to one province here. In fact I would have more opportunities here in Ontario to speak almost any other language that French. Almost all the Asian Languages can be found here quicker, especially Korean. Some Spanish, but not near what you have there.
@mrgionni wow i thought french was mandatory in Canada lol! But thats more Common in America, especially spanish considering Mexico is near by. But i dont think its surprising that they havn't gotten air time. Spanish pop is huge and its barly played here and there is never spanish pop on the radio's. I think one of the biggest non spanish hit that came to America is mr saxobeat which is romanian, but sang in english. Even if Boys did play on the radio i don't think it would be a hit.
@mrgionni i don't know, i just don't like that song. I feel like their earlier hits like gee would have been a bigger hit if it was in english, but i'd say mostly with younger ages.
@BIGBANGCRAZY111 Fashion in Korea is gay fashion to the rest of the world. You don't have much of an argument there you have super junior making out with each other.
@jdoramaking I don't think they are gay. It must be the makeup and clothes they wear that made them look feminine. I don't associate those things with sexual orientation because they are just a part of a person/group's style. If they remove their make-up and put on clothes that are more masculine, their image will become more masculine as well. As far as our facial and physical appearances, there is nothing that can be changed because we just look young, skinny and feminine in westerner's eyes.
@jdoramaking Gay? they are all 100% heterosexual, meaning straight. Remember that homosexuals, gays are much more common in America than in Korea. Shame. Korea will bring kpop to USA fucking haters like u like it or not.
@jxtsful All I'm saying is that they look gay..and youtube "super junior gay". I welcome kpop to America...but it's unlikely as America is very anti gay.
@jdoramaking Yeah America is very anti gay, but u guys don't realize that the proportion of Gay and homosexuals are intensely higher in America than in Korea. Therefore lets not be hypocrite if ur country has more gay people. Its called difference in culture and perception of what is supposed to be macho man.
@jxtsful I apologize. I don't mean anti gay in that way. I'm saying they are anti gay things like korean boy bands...that's just too gay for America. The gayest they have is Justin Beiber, which is very manly compared to korean boy bands, or masculine guys that dress like girls. They don't like gay korean boy bands. America does not embrace that level of gayness..and that's why Korean boy bands will never make it in America. America iwll never embrace boybands that make out with each other.
i bet if there are more albums that are released and more live performances (more exposure for short) the Koreans will definitely be very famous in the US.... hope it will be super junior or SHINee :)
@KYUNGILNAM 2NE1 indeed has a sound and style that can give them hope in America, but aside for a handful of K-Pop bands, I doubt K-Pop would make a huge impact in the United States, simply because certain things won't fit right because of how American culture works. Good example, rap entirely vs manmanhani. need i say more?
I'm NOT white! Actually, I'm Korean American. And NO I sure don't think that way about Jewish people and Hollywood. You obviously do, since you mentioned it.

@asianewsnet, perhaps you can answer this? Do you know how much air time/coverage SNSD or the other K-Pop bands got on their recent American debut?

Girisgreencrazeiful 8 months ago
America's views are very closed. korean girls tend to hold hands if they're close friends. america's will label them lesbians. korean guys have a slightly feminine face. america will label them gay. America needs to open up their views to the world before k-pop bands can/should go there. though i think kpop is just what america needs....music with people not half naked/ doing it on screen.
97FunBun 8 months ago
@97FunBun They do that in europe too. Because lesbians/gays will hold hands, americans dont know any better then to say gay because thats what they see. And what you said kind of bothered me about american people being half naked on the screen. Yeah they do that and i think its gross, but kpop does simiallar tactics for sex appeal. Seriously! Their super short shorts, shirts with slits all over and the dances can be sexual. Im not against it, but its not as different as america...cant deny it...
anime0pop 8 months ago
@anime0pop i'm sorry if i offended you. but not all kpop groups does that because not all kpop groups are going for a sexy look. and i'd take short shorts or skirts over half naked people any day, but that's my opinion. sure they show skin, but not as much as american artists do.
97FunBun 8 months ago
@97FunBun what you said didn't offend me, its just that besides maybe lady gaga and kesha, there arn't many other american pop singers that dance half naked opposed to all the kpop girl groups who are having more skin being shown with shorts and shirts that are short too, not even to mention that the dances they do which have sexual movements too. I'd bet there are more kpop girl groups that do that than american singers. Im just trying to make a point thats there is no big difference
anime0pop 8 months ago 2
@anime0pop i dont know... short skirts and half naked people seem like a big difference to me.
97FunBun 8 months ago
@97FunBun that wasn't what i was implying. Sory. I meant to say that having maybe 2 or 3 half naked people directed for older audiences and then having girls flaunting their bodies in a simillar way with sexual movements in a dance and having a way bigger ratio of kpop girl groups doing it, is the same tactics to get more views. And kpop groups are directed for all audiences including young people, so they are all being exposed to the same thing. I'd say kpop does that more than american artists
anime0pop 8 months ago
@anime0pop there may be more kpop groups, but american artists get more viewing and exposure to other countries, not only their own. Anyway we can't really blame kpop groups because they dont have any say in it. on the other hand american artists do actually have a say in their music, music videos, clothes etc. katy perry, lady gaga, they all helped and contributed in thinking of ideas for their music videos. american artists have more say in their music than koreans do
97FunBun 8 months ago
@97FunBun You are right, but to an extent in mv's they don't always get to say hey i want to wear that. Mostly because they don't write out a script of whats going to take place. But like i said these american videos are not aimed for younger kids, and usually younger kids don't like that type of music and instead stick to those disney stars. And im not saying that kpop groups pick there clothes, i know that they dont, its just that they do because of more audiences and older ages.
anime0pop 8 months ago
@anime0pop actually, if you watch behind the scenes of music videos or interviews they usually say "oh when i heard the song i wanted to have ____ etc" And actually you'd be surprised at what younger kids watch these days....
97FunBun 8 months ago

They will have to work their way around the world starting with europe. Then Canada then possible America, but I agree, the boy bands will have to become more masculine if they want success in America.

BRING IT ON!
brittcliz 11 months ago
Korean music isn't going to break in America because they are bringing in music that sound too similar to American songs that most Americans grew up with. You can't have Americans thinking "hey, that song sounds familiar". Just look at the history of accusations and litigations of plagiarism in Kpop.
jdoramaking 1 year ago
Just to add, you do not want Korean boy bands coming to America !! America will destroy those groups and forever stereotype Asian guys as gay and feminine. If you want somebody, bring somebody like Mc Moc or whatever his name is. He's a funny character that people can enjoy. Do not bring gay things to represent asian males.
jdoramaking 1 year ago 19
@jdoramaking I'm sorry, what you call is gay, is called fashion. Fashion: bizzare clothing I had the same feeling but gay has nothing to do with clothes.
BIGBANGCRAZY111 9 months ago
@BIGBANGCRAZY111 Maybe in Korea, it's just fashion, but in the rest of the world, Korean fashion is gay fashion. And yes, gay people have fashion, as any groups of people have.
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@jdoramaking America already has backstreet boys and a few others. If anything it would break some stereotypes. I'm not a pop music fan, but there are quite a few kpop boy bands that make Justin Timberlake look pretty damn fruity.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex The thing about America is that the music is diverse. They got gay boy bands, and very masculine singers. In Korea, most of the guys are femine. Yes, some may make JT look gay...but most K groups are more feminine than JT. Just admit it..the culture in Korea is for men to be very feminine. Just youtube "super junior gay
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@jdoramaking The American music scene is nothing special over any other country. What is popular in another country does not indicate that's all they have to offer. Consider the tip of the iceberg for the USA. Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and probably just a haldful of others. I have lived in Japan, and these are seriously the only kinds of people they hear about. Now, is that all America has to offer? Of course not haha XD.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex I would also like to add that Korea is actually quite a bit more western/masculine than any other asian country. I actually wouldnt call them all that feminine compared to what is all out there. I also dont really think anyone is gonna care if they are feminine. Most intelligent people dont really take offense to someone different than themselves, and theres lots of intelligent people in America right?
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex The bottom line is, the reason they are coming here is because experts in the industry have already determined that americans like this sort of thing.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex No, the reason is because Asian americans like it.
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@bdotalex Another lie about koreans more masculine. Yes, they are more western as they copy the west. the whole korean music industry is built on American pop and hip hop.
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@bdotalex Let's be honest. All types of American music is popular in Japan, and that's why there are so much rock music is so popular in Japan and most songs used some english. it's a total lie to say that all Japan see is the likes of Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber, when Japan is so heavily influenced by American rock music. My point is that it's not a good idea to bring Korean boy bands to America because as a result, the only image of asian men we'll see in the media are gay and feminine.
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@jdoramaking your first comment - yes thats actually what i said if you read it..
second comment - When you have some experience with actually living and working in Asia, I might start thinking that you arent just pulling bs out of your ass that you saw on fox news. The reason they are more "masculine" per say, is because they do copy the west more than any other country in Asia.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@jdoramaking last comment - No, in fact there is plenty of music that is absolutely not influenced by American music at all. You seem to have a rather large ego for your country which is pretty annoying. I am not lieing about anything I observe. If you ask the average Japanese person about american singers, those are the names you will get. Plus probably Madonna. My point is, I'm pretty sure that the "gay and feminine" image is already present in America, this would do no damage. perhaps fix it.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex If anything else, It would teach Americans not to care so much about if the damn thing is feminine or not. Bunch of homophobes. You know there is something clearly wrong about saying that being masculine is better than being feminine in the first place. Maybe your country isnt as sexist as you are, and you just dont want to believe it.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex Being feminine & gay is different in different countries. In america, they r more cruel, yet u can marry in some parts and date openly. In asia, u can look femininen, yet having gay relationships is not as acceptable. It's not an issue of society that i have a problem with. The problem i have is that I don't want to see a bunch of feminine gay asians all over america, which is the total opposite of what most asian men are, just as I don't like seeing asian girls portrayed as whores.
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@bdotalex First off, most music I listen to now is Asian, but most music I grew up with is american. Asia is significantly influences by the west. That's why in China, most celebrities have western names. In Japan, music groups have western names and use english. Popular music in s.Korea built on US pop and hip hop. Gay image is popular in america, but it's not the majority. If feminine asian groups come to america..that would be the main image of Asians in America...not an image I want to see.
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@jdoramaking I understand what u are trying to say, but you honestly lack insight of actually living in one of the countries you are talking about. Listening to asian music via the internet or satellite radio does not give you a good picture of what's there or even how it relates to the society it comes from. There is a lot of western influence in a lot of asian music yes, but there is a lot of asian influence in our movies here.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex I'm sorry but your personal experience mean crap! I'm Asian and I'm originally from Asia! It's just a fact that Western culture and entertainment strongly influence. Nobody saying all, but yes, in some case, almost all, as with Korean pop music which is almost entirely built on US music. Chinese and Japanese not as much, but the influence is still there. Nobody is arguing that there aren't asian influences. To say they only know the likes of beiber and gaga is ridiculous!
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@jdoramaking All I can say is this, I honestly dont think everyone will think that just because of these bands. Everyone will not think asian men are feminine/gay just because of some pop stars... and I think the reason that you think so is honestly whack imo, and even they were portrayed as feminine/gay, it should be other asian men to raise a stink about it. Not an american. You are putting words in someones mouth here. What if they are totally flaming gay and proud of it? lol
bdotalex 9 months ago
@bdotalex Nobody is saying they will think of Asian men as gay and feminine because of gay korean music. I'm saying I don't want the first, main, and only image of asian men in music to be gay! i don't want to see that. America, unfortunately is stuck on stereotype and we've been only see thugged out black guys for 20 years now...i don't need to see super junior hold hands and kissing each other for that long. That has been the case for asian women portrayed as whores and prostitutes.
jdoramaking 9 months ago
@jdoramaking You just can't know until you actually meet some koreans and ask them how they feel about it. I mean, its like you want america to think about koreans the way you do. It's weird. anyway, im trying my best not to piss anyone off, and failing horribly. lol ill just stop now.
bdotalex 9 months ago
@jdoramaking I totally agree with you. Americans are not that fond of and boy/girl group. To us its weried and yeah the majority of people would think its gay. And the main reason for that is because seeing a bunch of guys dancing together to some people seems weired. Plus if they were to come, they would just not be that popular. American Pop fends for themselves pretty well.
anime0pop 8 months ago
@anime0pop, american pop suck major ass. In fact K-pop is the only pop style music worth listening too. Although, as far as boy bands go, in any culture, their appeal seems to only target prepubescent girls. Thankfully, we have You Tube, so don't have to be subjected to american crap pop, and can decide for ourselves, that which we like or do not like.
Opinion of a white westerner.
mrgionni 3 months ago
@mrgionni Thats your opinion and I respect it, but if you want to be technical and say how American pop sucks ass lol kpop HAS modeled their music style to be exactly the same. Your comment is just amazingly bias and nothing else. One more think for you to think on, if American pop sucked ass as much as you say why is it that American pop is so adored and dominent in all europe, south america, asia and yes South Korea. I like Kpop but its not the best
Use your logic

Glad you like K-pop, never said it was the best, read the words, use your brain.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni I said what's amazing is how bias you were. And if you want me to say nothing about logic; instead of spitting out words why not explain your reasoning? Im only asking because I'm curious, there's nothing wrong about that or any reason to get offended. And how is the American music industry bias to other music cultures? I don't understand how that is even possible?
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, "I said what's amazing is how bias you were." and I previously said, "Yes my comment is Biased" in agreement to your previous comment, where's the confusion there? Spitting out words, is that what you call printed text? Sure I will answer your question, but first may I ask, why is the word offend so strong in your vocabulary? I went to all comments, used my find tab, typed offend, and it appears in almost every one of your comments. Just curious, no reason to be offended.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, 2. How, well not being an expert in the field, I can only go by observation, availability, accessibility and the opinions of others. I don't know about where you are located but accessibility to foreign musics, even when in English can be quite difficult at times for myself and friends both domestic and foreign. Also certain histories and events in the American Entertainment industry over the years.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, 3. You really don't expect a thorough explaination in the small comment space provided? It could fill pages. As for the comment on my page about nothing wrong with American music playing in the USA and Canada, that's a give in, stating the obvious. Equally there is nothing wrong with living in either country and preferring something different, thank you to the internet.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, 4. So since the computer, I have turned my TV and radios off. I prefer choice to force feeding. Also you posted this on my page, "I think the fact that you only bring up SNSD or kpop is bias" how so? SNSD is the number 1 K-pop band in Korea, and is one of the ones currently trying to break into the North American market. That's not bias, it's fact.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, 5. And do you see any SNSD or K-Pop for that matter on my page or within my videos? No you will not. And yet you say I am biased in favour of them. Bet it was on my page instead of here out of fear of backlash from the sones.
mrgionni 2 months ago

"May I ask you, how many radio programs or how much air time did SNSD for example get over there, or here in Canada, on their new album?" Please read in context, also this videos title would suggest that you are out of context & off topic on the Euro Pop.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, Please do quote me, where I supposedly "complained how America and Canada don't play Kpop music."
"Bias, a strong inclination of the mind or a preconceived opinion about something/someone."
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, One last thing. "As for saying "offeneded" there's no double meaning behind that word, I don't understand what you don't get from that..."
Yes I am aware that you do not understand, as I was not implying a double meaning. All I asked was "why is the word offend so strong in your vocabulary?" What I don't get is why you use it so frequently in your replies to others? Do you feel you are being offensive?
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, may I also ask, whom are you quoting as saying "offeneded" (sic)? I checked over all our postings and I never once said "offeneded" until quoting you today. Are you quoting yourself, or pointing out your own error?
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni Yes i was quoting myself. And when i said don't get offended, i meant don't take anything to heart in case i was making you upset. I think at this point are conversation is irrelavent since you made a 360 to focus on the definition of "offend" My thoughts on Kpop being in America wont change. I don't think America or Canada is obliged to have only Kpop on radio's considering its an eglish speaking country.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, I didn't say either country was obligated, where did you get that from? You made a 180 on the original topic, "Will America Go K-Pop Crazy?" by attempting to suggest that I was biased in favour of K-Pop, by omitting the mention of other forms of pop and musics such as Euro Pop that where not the topic of this video.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, nor would I want only K-pop on Canadian radio. What a silly thought! I may not even want it at all, I didn't say that, now did I! I was asking a question, not making a statement when I said "how many radio programs or how much air time did SNSD for example get over there, or here in Canada, on their new album?" < that question mark should have indicated to you, it was put as a question, not a statement or desire. Converse much?
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni I don't know if you even understand what you are saying at this point. Asking why SNSD gets no time on America or Canada radio's is clearly questioning why there is no kpop on radio's the way you implied it. If i misunderstood im sorry, but you are very unclear in your statements even if you know it or not. I think its just the way you work it, but you have many double meanings. I'll just leave it at that.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, I didn't ask Why, I asked How! They are two distinctly different words. And you talk about assigning double meanings to words? Clearly, you are the one who is confused.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni But even asking is still an implication of wondering why they don't have it a certain way! Saying "how" or "why" doesn't matter in that context. Im not even going to bother responding anymore if its just correcting errors in ways things are implied regardless if you realize it or not.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, you mean regardless if you realize it or not. I am fluent in English, have an IQ which places me in the 98th percentile, and am using words in their proper defined context. As well as examining your own words in both a philosophical and sociological context. I am very certain of both what I have said and what you have implied. Realize that, or not!
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni Im happy you have an IQ, congrats. Humble down a bit. Having a 300 IQ doesn't mean you can still convey stuff properly. You may be certain of what you said, but in all honesty that small doubt is where you stand. Good job being smart, but it doesn't make you right all the time.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, no one has an IQ of 300 that would be impossible. The Cattell III B test offered by Mensa is their highest scoring test and only scores as high as 161. I don't think the problem is in how I convey my message as much as it is, how you want to interpret it. Once again My question was How much air time did SNSD get in North America. Isn't the topic of this video Will America go K-Pop Crazy? It's a question, nothing more, get over yourself and clue into that.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni Wow genius its called sarcasm. Maybe you're right, maybe its not how you convey, its just you don't understand dialect. Lets just leave it at that, im sick of arguing over obviously nothing.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, yes you would like to have the last say, wouldn't you? I wouldn't call it nothing, when someone twists my words and conveys them as meaning something entirely different than what they were originally meant too. I believe that is called putting words into another's mouth. Why would anyone in their right mind, let you do that to them? Bet you can't resist this, and will still hope for the last say.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni lol! You can respond last, having the last say means nothing to me. Im just defending myself. If you think you are right, thats wonderful. Im not putting words into people's mouthes when they already said it. Respond back to make yourself happy. I really stopped caring, just humor me =) Good day.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, please do a review of our posts, many of the things you claim I stated I had never stated. I am the one who has been placed in the position of defense by your misinterpretations. All I have been trying to do is make clear to you what I was actually saying. And the question still remains unanswered. How much air time did SNSD receive in North America on their debut? I really do not know this and as I said many times before, it's a question. Answer anyone?
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni I'v told you they get 0 time. Why would SNSD get any time in America or Canada radio's. We speak english in these countries, not Korean. It would never be succesful...
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, why thank you for your reply. So even though they made an all English version of The Boys, you feel it is slated for failure, due to the fact that they are Korean and speak mainly Korean, even though they have made the attempt to break into the American market with an all English song. So even if they started producing all English songs or versions, you feel that they will not succeed.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni Yes. Mainly due to the American music market being much more competitive. Americans or Canadians are going to want to hear their bands and pop artists. Even then its a girl dance group. There havn't been any major success in boy bands or girl bands in America. Besides if you compare Kpop to Spanish pop which many Americans understand spanish, it hasn't exactly been a big hit either except for perhaps a few, but even then it has to be english.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, "it has to be english" yes and I believe they are aware of that. But you are generalizing when you say Americans and Canadians. Take ourselves for example, or yourself, "Im into Jpop, Kpop, French, Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian and Spanish Pop!"
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni Yes i am into those pop's, but thats me. Honestly i like hearing variety and being exposed to diversity, but as a rule people are not into that kind of stuff. I am being very general because you have to be when it comes to music. In general people want to hear english first before they would want to ever hear kpop. Even then they would rather listen to Spanish or French because those are languages that are common then something like Korean or anything Asian.
anime0pop 2 months ago
@anime0pop, Really? I always hated French at school. Had no practical use for it. It's a common misconception that Canadians speak French. That is really only confined to one province here. In fact I would have more opportunities here in Ontario to speak almost any other language that French. Almost all the Asian Languages can be found here quicker, especially Korean. Some Spanish, but not near what you have there.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@anime0pop, You would think they would have gotten some air time though, being backed by Universal Music Group under Interscope Records.
mrgionni 2 months ago
@mrgionni wow i thought french was mandatory in Canada lol! But thats more Common in America, especially spanish considering Mexico is near by. But i dont think its surprising that they havn't gotten air time. Spanish pop is huge and its barly played here and there is never spanish pop on the radio's. I think one of the biggest non spanish hit that came to America is mr saxobeat which is romanian, but sang in english. Even if Boys did play on the radio i don't think it would be a hit.

I welcome kpop to America...but it's unlikely as America is very anti gay.
jdoramaking 5 months ago
@jdoramaking Yeah America is very anti gay, but u guys don't realize that the proportion of Gay and homosexuals are intensely higher in America than in Korea. Therefore lets not be hypocrite if ur country has more gay people. Its called difference in culture and perception of what is supposed to be macho man.
jxtsful 5 months ago
@jxtsful I apologize. I don't mean anti gay in that way. I'm saying they are anti gay things like korean boy bands...that's just too gay for America. The gayest they have is Justin Beiber, which is very manly compared to korean boy bands, or masculine guys that dress like girls. They don't like gay korean boy bands. America does not embrace that level of gayness..and that's why Korean boy bands will never make it in America. America iwll never embrace boybands that make out with each other.

in my view, 2ne1 is more promising than wondergirls.

I Agree ;)

i totally agree with you.... wondergirls is good 2NE1 is better:)
cupcake8080 1 year ago
@KYUNGILNAM 2NE1 indeed has a sound and style that can give them hope in America, but aside for a handful of K-Pop bands, I doubt K-Pop would make a huge impact in the United States, simply because certain things won't fit right because of how American culture works. Good example, rap entirely vs manmanhani. need i say more?
