  • Once an Oiler... ALWAYS an Oiler. ... except for Pronger

  • This video goes good with the song Placebo - running up that hill, play that song and watch this video ;)

  • @fireface2007 ikr the song and the vid fits so well together

  • youtube strikes again...

  • Thats when hockey was hockey! Wish I was around for the original six or be around long enough to see the Leafs win at least one Cup its been almost 40yrs.

Kevin, I enjoy most of your movies and stand-up!! funny as hell. You would make a great canadian !!

    Toronto Maple Leafs Boston Bruins

    Chicago Blackhawks

    Detroit Red Wings

    Montreal Canadiens

    New York Rangers

  • I see what you are saying and got the point. Good job.

  • Kevin is great!

  • Remember when this douche used to be funny

  • He dresses like a colourful wizard

  • cute talented hockey player

  • I love hockey and Gretzky

  • stupid youtube

  • i just played the song on my itunes while watching this video.

    hahaha suck it youtube!

  • @grayfox622

Or even worse. I'm listening the song on Youtube while watching this video. Lovely to have one in the second tab.

  • This was a good video, till the song got taken down.

  • The greatest there ever was. Bobby Orr changed the game, Gretzky shattered the record books. He might not have been the fastest skater. He didn't have the hardest shot. What sets Wayne apart from everyone else is, he had the highest hockey I.Q. of any player in history. He saw things on the ice happen, that nobody else anticipated. His superhuman hockey sense is what makes him the greatest of all-time. Long live The Great One's legacy!!!!

  • I dont really care about hearing how the game has changed and is different today. The thing that really blows me away about Wayne is the 4 seasons with 200 or more pts. Over 800 pts in 4 years?? Crazy

  • dumb song

  • Um.......ok then lol. Considering your only 19 and STILL don't know how to communicate with people, your comment makes me laugh. EVERYONE knows the senators have lost EVERY playoff series they have ever played against the leafs. And lets face it, the playoffs are more important then the crap your spewing from your foul mouth about the regular season. Considering you being an Oilers fan, your comment was uncalled for. I was stating how GREAT Wayne was.

  • This was when hockey was still worth watching. The NHL was finally killed by the lockout of 2005. There is no more passion for the game by fans or players, our nation is poorer for this fine institution being ruined thank-you Mr. Bettman.

  • Im a massive Leaf fan but will always remember how Wayne killed us, everytime he came to Toronto. The best ever. Great vid

  • @maddcapp100 I hope you also remember how the Sens killed you....i.e: back in 2006 when we slaughtered your fucking loser leafs 8-0

  • Even though I left Edmonton a little over 20 years ago I still have the Oilers in my heart. Always will I believe.

Went to see the Oilers first in 1976 and I'll always remember Gretzky and Co. even if my two favourites were goalee Dave Dryden and of course Waynes' "bodyguard" Dave Semenko !

  • epic... no words... just epic

  • Haven't watched this for a few months, still a powerful video and a great song.

  • 2:53 is awesome

  • @thefonz23232 agreed

  • agreed

  • Wow Great Video. Thx Kevin Smith for Tweeting this. As a huge Gretzky Fan I thought I had seen every highlight of his career, but there was alot on herei had not seen.

  • WHEN I WAS A FORCED MEME

  • in my opinion only one very bad goal against in 86 and a forced trade in 89 kept the oiler's from possiblely being the greatest dynasty ever...if their not upset in 86 chances are they go on beat the blues and habs for their 3rd straight cup followed be the wins in 87 and 88 that makes 5 straight right there ...and seeing how they won in 90 if 89 trade doesn't happen thats a possible cup in 89 thats a possible 7 in a row(of course taking into account no major injures or upsets) its possible

  • @vardiss22 well the 88 trade was forced but what about selling messier, anderson, simpson, coffey, kurri, fuhr and many more.

  • @fireblade185 ...one word "Pocklington" lol...what a basterd

  • @vardiss22 agreed

  • Awesome.....just awesome. There are no words.

  • I know man I respected the Islanders! Back then. But every good team as to fall. Im glad it was my team that did it.

  • As an Islander fan I hated Gretzky with a passion..............but I respect him.

  • Living in new jersey, the devils are my favorite team (big surprise) but the oilers are my second favorite team, my favorite canadian team, and wayne gretzky was my favorite player of all time (hope this is ok =] )

  • @clerkingamy37, I agree

  • I'm not into hockey at all, but still this vid gets to me.

  • the best moment is at 3:55 when gretz scores and the goalie looks back and has this look on his face like how did that get thru

  • love the song, but isn't the tune about somebody dying and going to the great beyond? Neat vid, anyway.

  • I love you Kevin Smith and Wayne Gretzky.

  • Wayne Gretzky is awesome and everything, but Mario Lemieux is the greatest player of all time. I am biased though living in Pittsburgh all my life. Not hating, just saying. Awesome video nonetheless.

  • @oBroithe a lot of people said that if he would've been healthy he would've been the best.

  • Kevin Smith made me watch this. Thanks, Kev.

  • Me too. Actually really moving, isn't it?

    Thanks from me too, Kevin.

  • @ManchVeg4sSlim

    haha same here

  • EPIC. My god this video brought back memories of growing up here in Edmonton... The finesse that man has with a stick still amazes me. Yeah, secretly, he's a childhood hero of mine..even to this day - hence 99 pops up in all my online screen names. LOL. I remember the day they traded him... I kept on muttering under my breath at school 'Peter the Puck, Peter the Puck,' and I cried when I saw him break down at the news conference, it still gets to me when I see footage of it...

  • CHILLS. knowing the stats is one thing. seeing this many goals in five minutes is haunting. stunning. wow.

  • Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers destroyed the most pathetic dynasty in the history of sport in 1984. The Islanders will always be remembered as the dynasty "that just couldnt". Yeah just couldnt tie the Habs record of 5 straight Cups. Thats right, the Islanders stink. They failed when it mattered most. They blamed the schedule, they blamed the league, they blamed the Oilers, all typical signs of a total hypocritical American piece of shit. OH blame it on Ziegler, whatever. fuck you islander cunts

  • OIL PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kevin Smith Tweeted this to the lead singer of My Chemical Romance and Gerard approves!

  • i know thatswhere i got it from and the first notes i screamed "THE BLACK PARADE OH MY GOD!!!!!!" at the top of my lungs. its 10:30 at night, and i have a four year old brother and three year old sister sleeping. oops.

  • GO NR 99

  • k smith loves the hell out of this

  • one and only.

  • Outstanding, Sir. 5/5!

  • When Gretsky was in Indy, his teammates snuck him into the Bulldog Lounge where they told the daytime bartender Gail.. "Get anything and everything... not nailed down... for him to sign... He is going to be the best EVER!" They were right!

  • Epic sir ... hold's true to The Great One

  • 1:47 - 2:08 ... inhuman.

  • @seantawn agreed

  • Gahh...most amazing thing ever...my favourite band combined with my favourite hockey team?!?!? Yay oilers!

  • thx kevin and gee for making my day

  • ASDFGHJKL;

    FUCKING EPIC SHIT.

  • wow, thanks to Kevin Smith and Gerard Way for blowing my mind. the internet is AWESOME! \o/

  • yes! Gerard likes hockey! Oh, the Canadian I am. :)

  • The all-time great Wayne Gretzky in his day as a member of the Edmonton Oiler, porolly great days 4 him, da city of Edmonton & the organization. Wonder if Edmontonians remember those days? I assume they do, right?

  • There is a generation of Hockey Fans who have now grown up in Edmoonton who have to ask their parents and their older siblings what was it like to go to an arena and see Gretzky actually play. It's been 21 years since he was traded to the LA Kings.

  • "traded" ? try more like sold off, the hockey equilvant of babe ruth being sold to the yankees.Pocklington lucked into the most talanted team in NHL HISTORY and he MESSED IT UP.

  • Lets face it Peter Pockington too apart a team that we will never know how many more Stanley Cups they could have won. 5 or 6 might be a conservative estimate.

  • figure this, the team averege age was 25 they could have won 4 to 5 more stanley cups so from 89 probobly thru 94 (the Oilers reunion team ) they were in the prime of there careers.

  • I agree, its sad that we did not get to see that. I still get nostalgic when I think about that team.

  • when i think of that team as GREAT AS THEY WERE i always think WHAT IF? what if they could have stayed together ? we may NEVER SEE ANOTHER TEAM LIKE THAT AGAIN !

  • I've always called them th eGreatest Offensive Force ever seen in Professional Sports. If you stopped one line, the ohter lines would kill you. They were so young, so killed and so talented.

  • you're right bout that offensivly they came at teams in WAVES!

  • Yes, if Gretzky and Kurri didn't kill you, then Messier and Anderson would. If you stopped the forward, then Paul Coffey would tear you to pieces. Oh those were great games. What a team!!

  • um...pretty sure they actually worship those days.. lol. i have lots of family there...

  • @RossanaVivaPeru Trust me, we do. I just wish I'd been a bit older (I was 10-17 for most our dominant seasons) so I could have appreciated it more. But with the salary cap, the NHL will never see another team like this again. They are the last true dynasty of this league.

  • dude, bad music choice, great vid though

  • good choice for a video like this though.

  • kinda (I just read the lyrics, I don't like this band)

  • Nope. My Chem is amazing like the oilers. lol

  • well, only for this video, cause it's Gretzky, the lyrics go great with him though

  • who are the oilers?!?!

  • The Oilers are a pro hockey team kiddo. Grow up.

  • lol i was kiddin i kno who the oilers r im jus a flames fan but i dont rly hate on the oilers i think both oiler and flames fans agree that canucks r fags

  • you must be related to mrceebees14. youre both ridiculous people, probably born on another planet too. people who dont anything about hockey but knowing only that the sport exists. pretty sad. this is the best video on youtube. clearly shows Mr. Gretzky at his finest. Clearly the best Oiler ever. And clearly Canadas greatest hockey ambassador. My favorite game of Mr. Gretzky's is his 5 goal fame vs Flyers Dec. 30 1981 and also his 5-goal game vs. Blues in 84-85, I have both games on DVD.

  • orr is better then gretzky , there pretty dam close but gretzky played in some shit hole so thats why hes not the best ahah go flames

  • Orr was obviously better than Gretzky. Only a blind idiot doesnt realize that. And only an American doesnt realize that hockey was invented in Canada, not America.

  • your a dumbass im from calgary.. thats why i hate the oilers

  • go away. if you hate the oilers, why do you watch their videos? you stupid retard

  • it showed up as a suggested vid and from one click to another you get here

  • in your case it isnt a suggestion, its an insult since your flames fan. screw your flames, they fucked my oilers in 1986.

  • edmonton is a shit city lol

  • yeah whatever you say, i dont give two bits about calgary, ok, your flames suck, iginla sucks, kipper sucks, even the calgary goal horn sucks. so fuck off.

  • diss the flames but plz look at yourself you look like a fat fucking pig

  • i dont care what you think of me stupid. and im not fat, just chubby. i weight like 200 dumbass.

  • your pretty dam fat

  • will you give it up. geez you sound like an old granny.

  • HHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

  • yo smith, whatz upz?

  • Whats an oiler?

  • It's the name of the team Edmonton Oilers

  • best damn sports club in the world

  • Get off this video right now.

  • It continues to blow my mind how mean people are just because they can be. Who knew the internet would become the place for passive aggressive assholes to make their mark. If you don't like it, turn it off or walk away. Quit being mean spirited.

  • you need to lighten up...there's people dying of pig aids and you get all teary eyed because of some jokes..grow some balls...

  • haha I'm with you bro, I only watched this cuz Kevin Smith said it was one of the best!

  • That's why I'm here. I don't watch Hockey. It's impressive, but doesn't translate well to tv for me.

  • grow the fuck up

  • Nice vid. Good memories.

  • You forgot to put a full stop at the end of your sentence.

  • Wow.. you can't put a sentence together to save your life

  • shut up

    you probably play soccer

  • so does every hockey player in the off season. It also happens to be the most play sport in the world, and most followed. Your poor lack of intelligence.....

  • Not knocking hockey. But are you seriously trying to say that it's the most played and followed sport in the world?

    Seriously?

  • @ killthelights145 - Okay, I love hockey (it's the only sport I watch) but to say it's the most followed or most played in the world is just plain retarded. I hate soccer, but it definitely wins those two categories by a LONG shot.

  • he said soccer is the most followed.

  • I find it odd that Gretzky owns a part of the Coyotes because like a Pheonix, Edmonton will rise to glory again.

  • Hemsky is the next great

  • He was definatley the best oiler ever and best only on the oilers

  • You cant forget Kurri. Of course Gretzky would have been awesome player without him, but he would never had got that much points without Kurri.

  • What?! Was Messier some-ones lap dog? Or even Ryan Smith for that matter. Edmonton has had a lot of great players. The most of the most, mind you.

  • That's awesome

  • very well done! he is the great one!!

  • This song goes perfectly with the video.

  • How can we ever see to many of these past clips of the great one. We can,t!!! I was in the coliseum for 3 of the cups. Sitting 8 rows from the ice for cup 1 is my killer memory of all time. To see the Kid as we affectionaty called him hoist Lord Stanley,s mug was simply priceless. The consumate gentleman and teamate, there will never be anyone like him.

  • Im glad I got to grow up watching them 80's what a ride

  • Always amazing to see this video. I just love the music and the Gretzky goals against Philly.

  • yeah most of them are against Flyers... haha thats fitting for us the most goals let in by Gretzky...

    Go flyers

  • What is the hockey culture like in Edmonton, Alberta? Especially now that Gretzky is not there and the team hasn't really been consistant since. What's it like at an Oilers game? Is it a mad house? I saw videos on the riots during their cup run from a few years ago.

  • The energy in Edmonton is insane when it comes to hockey, particularly since the '06 cup run. Most Edmontonians bleed copper and gold, and have since the 80's (blue and orange back then). I was at the playoff game where we sang the anthem so loudly that we overpowered the singer so he just raised the mic and we finished the anthem for him. I was almost in tears with pride to be Edmontonian and I can assure you almost everyone in the arena felt the same way. Oilers for life baby!

  • Hockey is still hot way up north in Alberta. Look for the building to cave in on January 18 next year when they retire Glenn Anderson's number 9. Im trying to get tickets for that game, against the Coyotes and Gretzky. Im sure many of Andy's former teammates will be there. January 18 is also Mark Messier's birthday, so I would assume the Moose will be there.

  • Amazing video - really well edited! Takes me back to my childhood when the Oilers dominated.

  • this is the true fucking oilers thanks gretz,kurr,mess/semenko,coffey,fuhr,anderson for the absolute wonderful oiler memories, The oilers now is a fucking joke the oilers have missed the playoffs 6 times out of the last 8 years it will soon be 7 yrs out of the last nine yrs

  • I would be very happy to see the oilers capture there 6th cup but at the rate there at that might not happen for another 15 to 20 yrs .

  • no the oilers have a chance to win the cup and not 15-20 you tard

  • this team winning the cup this yr would be absolutly highway robbery because they don't deserve it the team that will win the cup this yr i guarantee is detriot back to back

  • this makes you love the oilers

  • oilers for life

  • luff it

  • oilers 4ever

  • My grandma is in this video right after they win the stanely cup shes going wild!!!!! RIght after the guys are celebrating and huggin each other. She has kinda red/blonde hair and is in a orange and blue oilers jersey

  • Gretzky was often double shifted in 81-82, then when Ken Linseman came over in 82-83, he played less, thus scoring less goals (71) and points (196). Actually, if you look at percentages, Gretzky scored or assisted on 50.8% of his teams goals in 81-82, while the figure for 82-83 is 46.2%. Linseman was the sparkplug the Oilers needed to get to the finals in 1983, lost to the Islanders but then beat them the following year with Linseman scoring the Cup-Winning goal.

  • gretzky said that if he had stayed they would have won at least 5 more stanley cups.

the ultimate reminder that no one player is good enough to win a cup by himself - gretzky never won again after he left edmonton. people like to think messier went to new york and was a messiah - without leetch and zubov that team would have been crushed. not to mention his old buddies mactavish and glenn freaking anderson

  • Very good point. Its a team game all the way. EVERYBODY on a Stanley Cup winning team contributes something. Even the fourth liners and those spare defensemen and sometimes even the backup goalie play a part.

  • The Mighty Edmonton Oilers are the greatest and most exciting hockey team in the NHL! GREAT VIDEO! OILERS IN 2009!!

  • This is one of the best videos on youtube. Notice many of Gretzky's best moments came against the Flyers, including those 5 goals to get 50 in 39 during 1981-82. Then Gretzky had a few more hat trick games against Phily over the years, including one against Pelle Lindbergh if I'm not mistaken. Gretzky's ability to find the open man is without doubt the best ever. Although Bobby Orr was the best all-round player ever, I don't think anybody can argue that Gretzky was the greatest passer.

  • i completely agree. the best passer, the best shooter. in my opinion i think gretzky is the best athlete ever. when he was 6 he played with 12 yr olds. when he was 12 he played with 16 yr olds. when he was 16 he was better than most nhl players in the league at the time. and then when he became an oiler he became the best player ever, and i think it'll be a long while before anyone compares, even sid the kid and alex ovechkin, not even close. its a different game and gretzky is one of a kind

  • yeah he was the best passer... and most of his assits were to jari kurri.

  • thats a pretty sick video

  • traded twenty years ago today

  • the saddest day in edmonton history

  • other than losing game 7 to the hurricanes after putting up the best playoff run yeah i gueess it is

  • A great video of the greatest to ever lace up the skates.

  • My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade

  • whats the first and second song called

so i can download on ipod need to know soon also artist thx post soon

  • Best Gretzky move was stripping the pick away from an opponent like at 4:27. God bless you Wayne Gretzky!

  • Just watched this video with my surround speakers WOW. Always an amazing video to watch! Love the Gretzky clips against the Flyers.

  • nice vid XD

    good song MCR !!!!!!!!!!

  • i cant believe how much faster the game is now.

  • Amazing video! Many of Gretzky's best momenets came against the Philadelphia Flyers, I can think of his 5 goals in one game to get 50 goals in 39 games in 81-82, his many goals in the 1985 finals, and 2 goals-9 assists in the 1987 finals, also against the Flyers.

  • i wonder how he would have done if he had been in the league nowadays. gretzky is without a doubt the greatest player to play in the NHL, but look at the goalies just flopping around back then. they were horrible.

  • Gretzky had that effect on defensemen and goalies.

  • Those goalies had tiny pads too... these days they look ridiculous.

  • yeah that's true. it's definitely harder to score.

  • 02:52 AMAZING

  • Great player.... love the oilre jersey

  • whats the diffrence between a braw and calgary falmes?

A BRAW HAS 2 CUs ahha

  • thats no in "bra"

    and yeah that SO TRUE!!!!!

  • Man...does this ever bring back good memories! Thanks for posting.

  • Awesome! Its good to see some clips of gretzky not played a million times by CBC and TSN.

  • Calgary Fans go to school on this Video! you will find greatness in all of us Oiler fans! Go Oilers Go!

  • theres no I in team but theres a me

  • wonder if the oilers would have a cup with out gretzky hope that happins sone!

  • The Oilers won the cup in 1990 while Gretzky was with the Kings.

  • by gretzky's own words, there is no I in TEAM
