I can't say I agree with your use of the Hang, but most of the sound of the Hang comes out of the Gu at the bottom. You are better off placing a mic a few feet away to get the best sound. Taping the mic to the Hang interrupts the vibrations that hold the sustain of the instrument.

This is probably the coolest thing acoustic drum effect iv seen, better than the aquaphone thing they use in the matrix. The delay really helps it fill the sound. VERY nice!
