Yeah ok Jesus didn't exalt his mother but an ANGEL did. Ur an idiot.
And he said all those who do His Fathers will are his brothers and mother. Did you forget that she brought him into this world BECAUSE of the Fathers will? How easily we forget.
Ironically, you're the one who is interpreting everything by yourself, by your own way of thinking, from the same Scriptures as the Church has been interpreting from for two thousand years, and you're the one telling me I have no grounds for these statements? I'm simply giving voice to what the Church has always believed and taught. It's you who are interpreting for yourself
Even if I were interpreting for myself (I'm not) according to my way of thinking, I would simply be doing the same as you
"The heretical man reject after one and two admonitions" - Titus 3:10
In order to even talk about Christ and Christianity it is necessary at bare minimum to be reasonable and rational. May our Lord and God Jesus Chirst draw you by His Grace to Himself.
When we as Catholics identify with Mary and make ourselves a part of her relationship with Christ, when we live in the relationship between those two, Jesus and Mary, we are identifying ourselves as the True Church of God, by all of those four indications.
that Mary is the "new eve" , the "new ark of the covenant" these are things you are interpreting yourself according to your way of thinking, you have no grounds that support your statements.
In revelations 12, that woman giving to birth is Israel(Israel is the place where Jesus came from), and satan hates Israel and will persecute.
This woman in revelations 12 running and hiding in the desert matches with Mark 13 where Jesus told the disciples Israel would be persecuted and they would have to flee to the desert to hide from satan.
When the bible talks about a church it is referred to as a woman. Revelations 17 talks about the great whore, does it refer to Mary? NO, it is referring to the church from which the antichrist is coming. The church (us) is the bride of Christ.
According to the RCC mary plays part in our salvation but Acts 4:12 that there is NO OTHER name given under heaven by which we must save.
If you are entrusting your soul mary, as the catholic church is teaching you, then I feel sorry for you cause you are only damning your soul to hell. NO MAN comes to the Father EXCEPT throught Jesus John 14:6
She is the New Eve who God became one flesh with by being conceived of her and born of her as the New Adam, and she is the most perfect realization what St. Paul says of Christ and His Church in Ephesians 4: This is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. This is also supported by Revelation 12, wherein Mary is personified as both Israel and the Church.
...in Genesis 3:15. Because of this, she is the mother of all the truly Living, those who are members of Jesus Christ her Son. As our mother, we love her and honor her, and ask for her help.
4: Mary is the personification of the Church as the Bride of the Triune God and the True Body of Christ.
In Christianity there is no "queen of heaven", the only queen of heaven the bible mentions is a false pagan goddess the jews were worshipping. In paganism there was a goddess called different names in many countries, in israel she was called "the queen of heaven" and in egypt as Isis the mother of God and all humanity. The statues of Isis carrying her baby "god" son are similar to those of Mary carrying the baby Jesus. Look in the internet and you ll see I am not lying to you.
Just read Mark 3:31-34 where mary went to look for Jesus and asked for Him telling she was his mother and Jesus answered "Who are my mother and my brothers?" Jesus refused to listen to Mary or even acknowledge her
In luke 11:27-28 a woman told Jesus "blessed is the woman who nursed you" and Jesus turned around and told her "blessed are those who listen to God's words and obey them"
1: Mary is the Queen Mother of the Davidic, Messianic Kingdom of Heaven by virtue of inheriting the office of Israel as the Mother of Jesus.
2: Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant, carrying the Word of God made flesh, the true Bread of Heaven, and the High Priest who died and rose again as His Sign of legitimacy. As the Ark of the New Covenant she is holy, and is always among us as the New Israel.
3: Mary is our mother by virtue of her office as the new Eve, mentioned explicitly...
"Say to the king and to the queen mother, 'Come down from your thrones, for your glorious crowns WILL FALL from your heads" you are adding words to this verse
In paganism there was a false "queen of heaven" the jews were worshipping provoking God in anger Jeremiah 7:17-18 God sent Jeremiah to give them warnings but the Jews insisted they would keep worshipping this "queen of heaven" Jeremiah 44:16-19 & as a result of their IDOLATRY God sent judgement on them
Another general comment regarding Mary: Most people, even Catholics, tend to regard her presence among Catholics as something 'extra' or unjustifiable from Scripture, and simply defend it by appealing to Sacred Tradition and the authority of the Church. That's wonderful and good, but additionally, her presence and prominence can in fact be justified from Scripture. I will not...
The Holy Spirit guides all men but the Bishops as the Clergy ordained by the Apostles (see 2nd Timothy 2:5-6, 1st Timothy 4:14, Titus 2:15, Titus 3:10, and Acts 6:3-6) who have been ordained Biblically within the Catholic Church have the authority to teach Christians doctrine and to identify heresy, something not given to all men but specifically to the Clergy who have been given that authority by their Biblical ordination.
@pj100003 Thanks for that clarification. It seems pretty obvious that the Church that Jesus set in place would have the authority to continue, but you've done a great service to those that need to see it in writing!
you trust the cathecism (which teaches things purgatory, praying the rosary, mary playing a role in our salvation,etc)in the same way you trust the bible. The bible are God's words and we know He doesnt lie, but the cathecism contains the words of men who can make mistakes. What if the pope makes a mistake? If he is quoting from the bible we know it is no mistake, but if He is saying something extra-biblical what guarantees you he is not teaching something false?
According to John 16, Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to lead us in our lives. 1 John 2:27 says that we have teh Holy Spirit with us and we dont need anyone to teach us.
You are reading "2nd Timothy 2:5-6, 1st Timothy 4:14, Titus 2:15, Titus 3:10, and Acts 6:3-6" out of context
The practice of using preists as mediators between God and man was abolished when Jesus died and the curtain was torn in two Luke 23:45. Jesus now is our priest Hebrews 5 and 7.
For the ones arguing against catholicism: Just prove me with a historical document, at least one little piece, of where your church was before the 1500s... Remember what Jesus said: ...tha gates of hell will not prevail against her (the Church) Take Care
I don't worship my wife (and she's okay with that ;-) and I don't worship Mary. Stop telling me that I do! And I really don't care what Isis worshippers did, any more than you care what Ba'al worshippers did. It just isn't relevant. Other men were called sons of one god or another, other deities allegedly died and were resurrected, it doesn't invalidate our faith. Many prophets worked miracles without being worshipped, why do you insist that saints working miracles is blasphemy?
if you want to accept it or not that is your problem,but you the RCC does come from pagan origins when Constantine, the ROman emperor founded the RCC in Rome around 300AD. He mixed Christianity with pagan myths(and not talking only about Mary but all other catholic practices).
And also, whether you want to accept it or not, bowing down before Mary, turning on candles before her statue, praying the rosary to her, all of this is a form of worship.
@sarah03ful Don't kid yourself, sola scriptura is a man-made tradition. Martin Luther came up with it. There are volumes written on the validity/fallacy of sola scriptura so I won't rehash it here, but I'll see if I can find a decent representation of the Catholic view on the subject. In an earlier post you mentioned sites that I wanted you to visit; does that mean you haven't? If you're looking for the truth, read our side too. This isn't a petty argument, you owe it to yourself to be right.
you say you dont trust in sola scriptura but even if someone is teaching something that the bible condemns or something that is contradicted by the bible? Who are you going to believe God or man?
I did not come here to fight with anyone, and so far I havent said anything offensive. I am saying nothing more than the truth, yes teh catholic church is all about idolatry, image worship, sacraments, a horrific exaltation of mary equal to christ and many times even above God. It is not my intention
You are a special kind of person to be bashing catholics (fellow christians) unreasonably. Kudos to all who have been standing up to your unfounded arguments and misconstrued understanding of catholic teaching. I am more than happy to join this debate, if you will but offer one logical argument to defend your views. Thank you for your time.
Yesterday, I experienced something I thought I'd never... I actually sent a spirit to the other side. To God. I've recently (about a month ago) moved to a new apartment together with my fiancée... and stuff started to happen when I was home alone - never in her presence. I was woken up at 07.42 AM every morning, either by footsteps or voices (saying my name).
Eventually we managed to gain contact with the spirit, my fiancée and I. A sad spirit. We could feel his sorrow... But he is with God now
at thank god i finally found it thank you a million times you know it gave me a hard time finding this others give me other ave maria thank you again in a million times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@DrNoahofChina That's the presumed Classical Latin pronunciation. The Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation is actually "ah-vay", with the voiced /v/ sound. Several other pronunciations are different from Classical Latin, as well. Caelis in Ecclesiastical Latin is pronounced "chay-lis", while the Classical pronunciation is presumed to be "kai-lis".
@CuckoBananas1 And they should learn to bring people to God instead of bashing the catholic church and fighting other christian denominations or thing they are better or perfect.
@meeplily Yes and thats your opinionut like the others say about their faith or church. I say that as long as you live a good life wether your beleive in god or not you will be rewarded if there is an afterlife. This of course is my opinion but with every church out there and every different religon out there I say rather than worry about which church to belong to and call others wrong for their religon why not all just beleive in god, why need a religon? Religon divides people and causes war.
@KenFranchino I so love your comment. What's important is loving God and as you rightly said,why should God's people fight with each other or think they are better than others?
When I was about to lose my grandma in August last year (2010)... I just wanted to scream this prayer out loud in church, while I was kneeling before the altar... Never have my prayers been so filled with sorrow...
Look all of y'all. I'm not Catholic, and I probably won't convert. I just think this song is pretty...So guys, keep the Religion off of youtube, live and let live, stop preaching, and listen to it
Would god have wanted a nice atheists who lives by nothing more than good morals or a sinning catholic using his title to make himself believe he is worthy of forgiveness without confession or even prayers. We do not know anything about the afterlife but we grasp onto religion, our salvation, but all religions have one thing in common. To repent your sins, and try to live, love, and spread peace. For death is not the end but a gateway to a better life to see if you have followed the right path,
For those who often have a miscomseption of the bible one the lord does not want us to argue about this we go about our life with good morals and no sin that is how life should be even if god had or had not set it. I am a roman catholic and yes i have questioned the bible reading but their are from followers of god bringing the old and new testiment you must understand whatever you wish to say do so atheists, jews, etc etc i belive god will let us belive whatever we choose. think ...
If you pray to a saint, you turn him into a pseudo god. There is only One true God, His son is Jesus Christ the only name on Earth that can save a soul!!! Luckily Mary is spared and not aware of the fact that ignorant people worship her on Earth!
Mary is a "born again" Christian who received the Holy Spirit at the Pentecost and spoke in tongues 2000 years before Pentecostals got the gift. (Acts 1:14, 2:3) She knows how to pray - yes even in tongues :-)
One should honor Mary as she herself wished and as she expressed it in the Magnificat. She praised God for his deeds. How then can we praise her? The true honor of Mary is the honor of God, the praise of God's grace . . . Mary is nothing for the sake of herself, but for the sake of Christ . . . Mary does not wish that we come to her, but through her to God. (Explanation of the Magnificat, 1521)
Mary is the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of all of us even though it was Christ alone who reposed on her knees . . . If he is ours, we ought to be in his situation; there where he is, we ought also to be and all that he has ought to be ours, and his mother is also our mother. (Luther's Sermon, Christmas, 1529).
". . . in the resolutions of the 95 theses Luther rejects every blasphemy against the Virgin, and thinks that one should ask for pardon for any evil said or thought against her." (Ref: Wm. J. Cole, "Was Luther a Devotee of Mary?" in Marian Studies 1970, p. 116:)
Luther gives the Blessed Virgin the exalted position of "Spiritual Mother" for Christians: It is the consolation and the superabundant goodness of God, that man is able to exult in such a treasure. Mary is his true Mother .. (Sermon, Christmas, 1522)
". . . she is rightly called not only the mother of the man, but also the Mother of God. . . . it is certain that Mary is the Mother of the real and true God."
Ref: Sermon on John 14. 16: Luther's Works (St. Louis, ed. Jaroslav, Pelican, Concordia. vol. 24. p. 107)
". . . she is full of grace, proclaimed to be entirely without sin. . . . God's grace fills her with everything good and makes her devoid of all evil. . . . God is with her, meaning that all she did or left undone is divine and the action of God in her. Moreover, God guarded and protected her from all that might be hurtful to her."
Ref: Luther's Works, American edition, vol. 43, p. 40, ed. H. Lehmann, Fortress, 1968
She is full of grace, proclaimed to be entirely without sin- something exceedingly great. For God's grace fills her with everything good and makes her devoid of all evil. (Personal {"Little"} Prayer Book, 1522).Martin Luther
In his sermon of August 15, 1522, the last time Martin Luther, father of reformation, preached on the Feast of the Assumption, he stated: There can be no doubt that the Virgin Mary is in heaven. How it happened we do not know. And since the Holy Spirit has told us nothing about it, we can make of it no article of faith . . . It is enough to know that she lives in Christ.
and dont think christ was perfect,either.he had quite a temper and was constantly annoyed with pepole and disgusted with them,thats why he avoided them whenever he could.when his freind died,a 3day walk,an apostle said why are you not there?and jesus said'IT IS GOOD FOR ALL YOUR SAKES THAT I AM NOT THERE,TO WHATEVER EXTENT YOU MAY BELIEVE' imagine if one with such power lost his cool? thats what he was avoiding!!even jesus wasnt above emotion like anger and sorrow.its in our genes!!
going around telling pepole heres what you can do,too,AND HERES how, is unnerving to religon and civilization,and is a threat to the continued exsistence of both!thats why they killed christ!if everyone had developed their christ-powers like he was teaching,would we need churches or goverments?NO! wed all be like christ.perfect in our 3d forms and in complete harmony with the physical universe.the goverments and churches would be instantly and permanatly out-of buisness! RIGHT? think about it!
and p.s. catholics dont want the 'mysteries of god' to be revealed.they beleive its only for god to know,and not for them to figure out. to them, understanding the mind of god is impossible,and youd be calling yourself a god by saying you know the real truth.theyed burn ya at the stake.in town sqraure!just cause if you dont,youre a blasphemer,and if you do,youre a direct threat to organized religon and society,just like christ was.thats what got him killed.
and futhermore,DONT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF PRAYER IN ANY TIME OR LANGUAGE!! SELF-EDIFICATION AND FORGIVNESS increases inner (spiritual)enegry and has the greatest healing powers in all of creation!!as long as youre acknowledging the creative force of the universe,and seeking wisdom and harmony from it,you can call it god,bear,apple and visualize it anyway you want,it is what it is,and does what it does,whether it complies with your idea of the universe or not!so dont make fun too much!
now,now,children!lets not pick on the idol worshippers who bow and pray to images of woodand bronze and stone!so what if they think dead pepole answer their prayers,and that praying with plastic beads is gives them automatic eternal forgivness for everyone they ever hurt and wronged!let them beleive in their superstitions and rituals,and the god with the long white beard floating around on a cloud somewhere.everyone NEEDS to beleive in SOMETHING!might as well be something pleasant,the truth aint
Catholics pray to Mary so that she can intercede for you? but according to acts 4:12 "Salvation is found in NO ONE ELSE, for there is NO other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved" do you get it? salvation is found in NO ONE else other than Jesus Christ. 1 timothy 2:5 says "there is ONE mediator between God and men and that is Jesus". In John 14:6 Jesus said "NO man comes to the Father except through Me" Prayers to Mary are worthless, she cant do anything for you
But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. Matthew 12:36
I doubt you are saved, Jesus said you must be born again to see the kingdom of heaven but very few catholics are born again,, most catholics trust their church, their works, "virgin" Mary to save them when the bible says we are saved only through Jesus and by faith,
@sarah03ful u suck I am Catholic and what I think is that it doesnt matter u the **** u r u still can try to live in peace and also if you don't believe they Mary is awesome ( we pass our prayers on to her doofus!) then look up pics of our lady of Guadalupe and see that there is NO scientific proof of a paint stroke and they didnt have cameras until not long ago.
I do believe the Mary apparitions are real, but they are not from Mary but from Satan who can transform into an angel of light 2 corinthias 11:14.
Jesus taught us to pray to God in Matthew 6, using Mary as an intermediate is non biblical and actually contradicts the bible, according to 1 timothy 2:5 there is only one mediator and that is Jesus Christ, Acts 4:12 says that salvation is found in NO ONE ELSE but ONLY in Jesus Christ.
@sarah03ful And that is what we, Catholics, hold true as well. Mary DOES help and can intercede, however. Remember, Revelation 8:3 clearly states that even the angels pray to the Saints.
where in the bible does it say that Mary intercedes for us? According to 1 timothy 2:5 "there is one mediator and that is Jesus" According to John 14:6 "Jesus is the ONLY way", according to Acts 4:12 "salvation is found in no one else but ONLY in Jesus Christ", where did you get that Mary can intercede for us and hear millions of prayers at the same time from different people from different places of the world? For this she would have to be omnipresent but only God is and Mary is only a human
@sarah03ful You have said nothing I disagree with, except she can. She is in heaven, and has transcended flesh, like everyone else in heaven. She's more alive and concious right now than you or I have ever been. Now will you stop being a typical Protestant, picking out single verses and twisting them to suit your needs? That would be appreciated.
@sarah03ful Oh and jesus had a mom and Im pretty sure he believed in PEACE Oh and i have attended a Baptist church and talked about it with him and he said that he believed in the idea that if you believe in jesus and you are a practicing christian then you can go to heven
Jesus is God who existed before the creation of the world John 1:1, Jesus created Mary and existed before Mary was even born, where did you get that Jesus had a mother? Mary was Jesus' earthly mother because Jesus needed a vessel to become man that is all, but Jesus is God and God does not have a mother
but if the bible contradicts a teaching who are you going to believe, man or God? Remember Jesus said there would be many false prophets and we know they lie if what they say is not in line with the word of God. The bible contradicts the RCC in many ways: According to the RCC Mary never sinned, according to the bible she did, read luke 2:24 in reference to Levticus 12:8, the bible says that worshipping other than God is idolatry, so tell me who are you going to believe?
This is a purification offering (not a sin one) to purify her and she will be ceremonially clean.That 's why is best to read it in the originals(HEBREW).Try a better translation like "The New Living Translation @ 2007".You might miss the whole contest of a tradition that is still alive among jewish ladies because this are the instructions for a woman after the birth of a son or a daughter to purify her as she will be ceremonially clean after the bleeding at chilbirth Leviticus12:7
@contessabaldelli My dear,non need argueing with people who twist the bible to discredit the catholic church instead of loving God and bringing God's people together.Some people are so fixed with their CHURCH and discrediting the catholic church that they forget they have to win souls for God and not pull away people from the church.You answered her so well.The bible is not understood from word to word and the apostles themselves said if they had to write all,all the books won't contain it.
Please read @ Chabad at ASU ,"On the Essence of Ritual Impurity" for a better understanding of this jewish tradition.Althought even the Rabbis say that it is beyond our comprehension as "it transcends reason enterily because affects an elevated part o the soul".
Just look in google "On the Essence of Ritual Impurity" and you will find a good article from Susan Handelman explaining why a woman gets spiritually vulnerable after the departure of Holiness immediately after childbirth.
the sacrifices were not only for purification but also for forgiveness of sins, read Leviticus 12:8 carefully it says: "If she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for A SIN offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean" and this is exactly what Mary was doing in Luke 2:24, she was offering two pigeons and two doves for the forgiveness of her SINS
the Lambs in the OT were sacrificed for the forgiveness of SINS, and they were a representation of Jesus the Lamb of God John who would die for the sins of the world. John 1:29, the people who could not afford the lamb were to offer doves and pigeons instead, I thought you knew more about the OT or may be you do but you are only trying to twist it for your own convenience, the bible clearly says, THERE IS NO RIGHTEOUS romans 3:10, THERE IS NO ONE WHO DOES GOOD Psalms 14:3,
@sarah03ful My dear,use your head.Don't wrongly interprete the bible and don't just try to understand just what you want to understand. Jesus was baptised but it doesn't mean he was a sinner.DON'T MISINTERPRETE the bible.It is written nowhere in the bible that Mary sinned.The church had its tradition and she followed it just like just got baptised.
@meeplily Don't forget us Eastern Catholics. There are 22 rites within the universal Catholic church: the Roman Rite and 21 Eastern rites. We have our own liturgy and discipline (e.g. most of the Eastern rites ordain married men to the priesthood), and we are as equally Catholic as anyone else, and we are all in communion with the Apostolic See at Rome.
Mary was godly & righteous woman, but that she was sinless is totally unbiblical as are ALL the other things the RCC teaches about her.
The bible says that there is only one human who never sinned and that is Jesus 2 corinthias 5:21. If all the things the RCC teaches about mary are so important then why would the bible exclude them?
The bible contradicts what the RCC teaches, are you going to believe more a man than God?
according to Luke 2:24 Mary was offering a sacrifice obeying the Laws in Leviticus 12:8 of offering pigeons and doves for the forgiveness of sins, if Mary had been born sinless why was she offering sacrifices? According to Romans 3:10 there are no righteous, tell me what verse from the bible says that Mary was born without sin? I would like to know that?
According to Luke 2:24 Mary offered a sacrifice obeying the Law written in Leviticus 12:8 that mothers were to offer two pigeons or two pairs of doves for what? FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS!!!
According to Romans 3:10 There are NO righteous, according to Psalm 14:3 There is NO ONE who does good.
Tell me a verse from the bible which says that Jesus needed to be born from a sinless mother?THERE IS NONE.
@meeplily sarah03ful bad mouths all other religions, as well as picks fights with Atheists & even fellow Christians. She gives Christians a bad name, & drives people away. A guy named WOWJBEOWULF was just like sarah, but we reported him & YouTube shut down his account. YouTube doesn't want people like that either, because they drive people away from YouTube. So YouTube shuts them down. Goodbye Sarah! That is going to be your fate here.
Please do not quote Holy Scripture to Catholics to support your individual interpretations. We only interpret it according to what the Catholic Church teaches, who has safeguarded and compiled the Holy Bible in its most authoritative form. This prayer came from the Holy Bible, spoken by the Angel Gabriel during the Annunciation, her cousin Elizabeth during the Visitation, and all Catholics ask her to pray for us, because her Son-who did not refuse her in Cana-gave her to us to be our mother.
if the bible contradicts the catholic church are you going to believe a man more than God? The bible speaks for itself, and is very clear when it says Mary was a sinner (she offered a sacrifice for the forgiveness of her sins Luke 2:24 obeying the laws in Leviticus 12:8 on how mothers were to offer sacrifices for their sins). The bible is very clear, what other interpretations do you want? Jesus never exalted Mary but refused to exalt her Luke 11:27-28 or to even listen to her Mark 3:31-34.
The bible NEVER talks about praying to Mary, the Rosary is NOT biblical, the annuciation, Mary's visit to Elizabeth do not suggest us praying to Mary, these passages actually contradict the catholic church, during the annunciation, the angel told Mary " Greetings Mary you who are highly favored", the phrase "highly favored" suggests that Mary was chosen not because there was something especial in her but by God's grace (an unmerited favor). God chose her as a favor to her
When Elizabeth told Mary "blessed are you" she told her this not because of her but because of the child she was carrying. It is like when you receive a blessing from God and someone tells you that you are a blessed person but this does not suggest worship.
The wedding at cana teaches us that when we care for other's problems(like when Mary was concerned about the couple running out of wine) God starts to do His work(this was Jesus' first miracle) but this does not suggest prayer to Mary
sorry it is not my intention to troll you with so many posts but where do you get that Jesus gave Mary to us as a mother? Tell me a bible verse which even suggests that? Are you talking about when Jesus told John "here is your mother" in John chapter 19? if that is so then you are twisting scripture, this doesnt suggest Mary becoming mother of all the living but only of John
@stmargarettac The second half, "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners," etc., was written by the Roman church. It is not in the Bible. Eastern Catholics, in communion with Rome, use the following: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou hast borne Christ the Saviour, the deliverer of our souls. Mary is honored because she brought us Christ, not in her own right.
@stmargarettac So well said!I don't think we even need to explain anything to non catholics about our faith.We just need to ignore them and their way of interpreting the bible.I am a proud roman Catholic and I pray to our Lady and she helps me.
prayer is a form of worship, and praying to someone other than God is idolatry. Mary was a human just like us, worship to her is an abomination to God.
We Catholics don't worship Mary but we do hold her in very high esteem. After all, Christ's first miracle was performed when Mary brought the need to His attention, despite His claim that His hour had not yet come. "Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners..." We ask Mary and other saints to pray for us to the God we all really worship, like you might ask a good friend to pray for you. There is much more to this subject, so please research it further and be satisfied. Agape!
According to 1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" Jesus Christ is the ONLY mediator between God and humans. Prayers to mary is a form of worship. Venerate, worship, doesnt matter, the only one who deserves our veneration, praises and worship is God. Mary was a human just like any of us who was chosen by God's GRACE (something God gives us even though we dont deserve it) for Jesus to become a man, that is all.
@sarah03ful And I think you're hurting your own understanding when you equate veneration, praise and worship. I believe you would (rightly) venerate someone who had spent decades in service to God and personally had a positive impact on your life. You would praise them for their faith and their deeds and wouldn't hesitate to look at their example or ask for their advice and prayers when you faced difficulties. But you wouldn't confuse that with worship, and neither do we. Thank you for asking,
there is nothing in the bible that suggests God listens less to a sinner than a sace. int but makes it clear that WE all can approach Him with confidence. Nothing in the bible suggests that people who have died have God-like attributes like listening millions of prayers at the same time, and yes you have horribly exalted Mary to a position the bible NEVER gave her, the bible barely mentions her but you have exalted her even above God.
and I am not talking about ignorant catholics but about people like the pope, when he died, he gave up his soul to whom to Jesus? No, to mary, he left the church in charge of Jesus? No, in charge of Mary, when he got shot, who did he thank for not losing his life Jesus? No, Mary. When he died he had the name of Mary written in his casket. You will be saved based on the relationship you have with Jesus but the problem is that catholics dont have a relationship with Jesus but with Mary
@sarah03ful I understand now why you chose to comment on such a Catholic song. I think your attacks on other Christians will come to be something you regret. The Catholic church has been defending herself for over 2,000 years. The answers to your questions are readily available. I recommend catholic .com for some actual Catholic answers. I know that you have been taught to hate Catholics (or at least our beliefs), but we ARE Christians, and have carried the teachings of Christ through time.
@sarah03ful I'm sorry, but individual verses out of context don't carry a lot of weight with me. (Satan quotes scripture, too.) Your common sense approach applied to Mt. 27:50 would seem to indicate that we don't need Jesus, since we can approach God directly. (I know that's not your belief.) Re: Heb. 4:16 and Phil. 4:6; so do we pray to God or to Jesus? And I imagine that you would ask your preacher to pray for you before you'd ask a wife-beating womanizer? (Saints before sinners?)
@sarah03ful And to use an analogy, if I go to court and hire an attorney (or a whole team of them) to speak for me, and call witnesses to vouch for me, I don't think the judge would think I was placing any of them above his authority. We don't worship Mary (or any saint), any more than you worship your preacher, or grandparents, or whoever is the most holy, righteous, saintly person you know. We ask them to take up our cause, and present our petitions to God Almighty (like in Rev. 5:8).
Revelations 5:8 does not have anything to do with what you are saying. We, all born again believers, are the saints. and talk to me about reading the bible out of context, the catholic church is really good in doing that, most of the verses they use to justify their doctrines have been read out of context. The verses I gave you make it clear that we can approach God without using intermediates, and that Jesus is the ONLy way to our salvation, I dont know how more clear they can be
@sarah03ful Revelations 5:8 "And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people." Saints presenting prayers to Jesus. And the verses you quoted say that we don't need any intermediates, and that Jesus is the only intermediate. That's not necessarily clear.
yes but we all are God's people, the saints, we can ask each other here on earth to pray for each other but prayers to the dead is something different, anyways, many catholics do not ask mary to intercede for them but they actually ask her to direcly help them, they view her as a goddess who can do them miracles. This is all idolatry.
@sarah03ful There are misguided and misinformed Catholics, just as there are Protestants. Womanizing televangelists, promising salvation for a few hundred dollars, working miracles on stage with souls as dirty as coal tar... I won't ask you to defend them, and don't ask me to defend actions that go against the teachings of the Church. The Holy Spirit descended on the apostles at Pentecost, and remains with Christ's church even today. Learn more about what the apostles and their disciples taught.
You say Jesus' teachings are best embodied in the RCC but when did Jesus teach us things like praying to other people than God alone? In fact He taught us to pray only to God, Matthew 6:9-13, and He said not to be praying like the pagans, who repeat the same thing over and over again, Matthew 6:7 something that catholics do when they pray the rosary.
@sarah03ful I know you have more questions, and I wish I could spend more time with you on them. Maybe we can find a better forum than youtube ;-) You have some good questions, and they're questions that deserve (and have) answers. Catholic .com will be a good place to start. Anything else I say here is going to be more official Catholic church teaching, and there are far better teachers than I!
You say that God will listen more to a saint like Mary than to us but the bible says Jesus intercedes for us Hebrews 7:25 so who do you think God is going to listen to more, to mary or Jesus? to Jesus obviously, so why go to mary instead of going to Jesus.
& yes there r misguided catholics because the Catholic leaders promote this, just think about pope John Paul 11, Matt 5 says if something is causing us to sin we must cut it off for it is better to lose that than getting into hell
@sarah03ful Actually, what I was trying to say is that God is more likely to hear someone in communion with Him (a saint or repentant sinner) than someone at odds with His will (a confirmed sinner). I'm not advocating praying to saints INSTEAD of Christ. Rather, I ask them to add their voices to mine and present my prayers to God. Let me ask this: in Rev. 5:8, whose prayers do you believe the saints are presenting to the lamb that was slain?
would mean all this time you have been living in a lie. The only guarantee you will ever get are the things God wrote in the bible, if it is there, then it is true, but if it is not there then who knows whether you are being deceived by false prophets or not. RCC teachings are something serious to me because the souls of millions of people are in danger of going to hell for putting their faith on a man(the pope) rather than putting their faith in Christ alone.
I dont think Revelations 5:8 is referring to people who have been deceased and are in heaven with God. It is talking about everyone (us) all who are born again christians and have put our faith in Christ alone, we all our God's saints. May be it is not the official teaching of the RCC to advocte prayers to Mary instead of Christ but they are doing it, many people dont come to christ anymore but rather to mary, just remember the examples i gave you from the pope, on how Christ is
being left to the side, the pope is an excellent example Matthew 7:21-24
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!"
@sarah03ful I've been reading more on your site. Do you believe that baptism is necessary for salvation (Jn 3:5)? Or eating the body of Christ (Jn 6:54)? Because gotquestions(dot)org denies these things. Do you agree with their teachings?
according to Ephesians 2:8 we are saved by faith alone and not by works, Romans 11:5-6 says, "There's a remnant chosen by grace and if by grace it is NO longer by works. If it were, grace would no longer be grace"
Read all the first chapters of Romans which clearly say that we are justified by faith alone and not by works or by observing the Law. Baptism, Communion are works that are a result of our faith in Jesus Christ but they alone are now what will save us
John 14:26 says "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" The disciples remembered everything Jesus did on earth because teh Holy Spirit reminded them, and that is how they wrote the Gospels, by the work of the Holy Spirit.
John 20;30 is saying that Jesus performed many miracles not written in the bible, but whatever is written in the bible is all we need to be saved,
@sarah03ful He then turned to the Twelve and offered them the same choice; believe what I say or hit the road. Peter's reply? “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." Have you turned from him because you couldn't understand?
Jesus was there with the disciples when He instituted communion, it would've been impossible for the disciples to literally be eating Him for real because Jesus was still with them.
What the catholic church teaches that Jesus keeps resacrificing for us over and over again is unbiblical. Hebrews 7:27 says "Jesus does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins ONCE for all when He offered Himself."
When it comes to the "born again" thing in John 3:5, Jesus was telling this to a religious Pharisee(that we must be born again) because the Pharisees believed that by doing religious rituals and observing the Law etc they would be saved but Jesus was trying to express to Him that it was not the religious acts and the OT laws what would save them but the act of being born again (turning away from sins and regeneration through the Holy Spirit). I dont know how more clear it can be to you
@sarah03ful You've chosen to take Paul's word over Christ's, and then accuse all Catholics of following man-made doctrines. Especially since Jesus could speak to us all, even today. John 6:63-64 is after Jesus allowed many of his disciples to leave because of what he said. He also used different words for "eat" that served to intensify the idea, not correct it. We don't believe that the eucharist is a re-sacrifice, but that it makes us present at the original sacrifice.
ALL Scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16), whatever Paul wrote in the bible are the things that Jesus said. God does not contradict Himself. The people mis understood what Jesus was trying to say, they thought He was talking about "cannibalism" which was prohibited in the Jewish Law and that is the reason why they left but this is not what Jesus was talking about. You should read more what the cathecism teaches, it does teach that Jesus resacrifices over and over again
@sarah03ful I don't think the Catholic church fails in its teachings when its followers don't fully understand, any more than Christ "failed" when the crowds he addressed didn't understand. I don't know if you'd attack him for misleading his followers, but gotquestions(dot)org stated that the early church "should have made producing copies of the Scriptures a high priority." Since the early church didn't, I think that shows that building the church was more important than building the library.
on what the RCC really teaches(most catholics dont really know the meaning of all RCC practices) and compare it and you will see these are unbiblical things. You say you dont believe in sola scriptura but even when a church is doing things that goes against the bible? things like worshipping mary (many catholics do even when you try to deny it), saying Jesus resacrifices over and over again, saying we are saved by works and by observing the law when Paul made it clear in the
@sarah03ful The problem that I have with sola scriptura is that the New Testament never claims to be all you need (how could it, it wasn't part of the bible until the 4th century). When Paul talks about scripture what do you think he means? The scriptures that he studied didn't include his letters and certainly not letters he hadn't written yet. Jesus didn't write any of the New Testament with His own hand, so I think he placed more importance on teaching his followers than starting a book club.
first chapters of the book of Romans that we are not justified by works or by observing the Law?,
saying that when we die we are going to purgatory(so in other words Jesus failed in His mission of paying for our sins when He died in the cross for us and that is reason why we still have to pay for our sins in purgatory?), using intermediates when the bible clearly states that the use of intermediates is gone. I could go on and on to tell you how the RCC contradicts the bible
but the thing is that you are the one who has to make the decision to open your eyes, I cant open them for you. When you finally do you will realize that the RCC is defenetely not the church that Jesus Christ founded.
and I forgot to mention the RCC practice of worshipping images when God made it clear that this is an ABOMINATION to him, is there anything else more for me to add so that you understand that the RCC is all idolatry?
@sarah03ful There's a lot more that you forgot to mention, but I can assure you that I've heard most of it before. And I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you, we should ALL learn more about what the Catholic church teaches (catholic .com is a great place to start). I don't know the hearts of people praying to Mary any more than you do (I sincerely hope you're not claiming THAT ability, too), but I can tell you that the Church does NOT teach worship of Mary or saints, and certainly not stone statues!
you are giving me this site but the thing is that many catholic sites do not actually claim catholic doctrines as they are officially written in the vatican, if you read them you will realize they dont go in line with the bible. May be it is not the official position of the RCC to worship mary but they dont enforce it and as a result many people actually end up worshipping mary. The bible describes bowing down before an image as worship, the Pope many times bowed down before Mary statues and
the people do the same. The RCC claims to pray to Mary to interce for them, but many people actually dont pray Mary to intercede for them but they pray directly to her to help them as if Mary was a goddess with power to do miracles. This is stealing God's glory. All of these things are a form of worship. If the RCC sees that people are turning this into idolatry, then they should not encourage people to pray to Mary because it is causing them to sin. If something causes you to sin cut it off
for it is better to lose that than being thrown into hell (Matthew 5). Many people claim that because they dont pray to statues of false gods then they are not engaged in idolatry. They claim that if they pray to statues representing the true God then this is not idolatry, but it is. Jesus told the samaritan woman in John 4 that we must worship God in SPIRIT and truth because God is a SPIRIT. In exodus 3:13-14, Moses asked God who He was and God said "I am who I am" meaning that you can not
@sarah03ful I was in a house a few years back to work on a computer. They insisted that I remove my shoes before entering that room because their god was in there (a grandfather or something). They believed that his spirit was there in a picture (or among several items, I didn't ask) and they worshipped him daily. THAT is idol worship. Making a statue and worshipping the statue or what it represents AS GOD is idol worship. Praying to those who served God (and are now in heaven) is not.
compare God with anything. You can not use something to refer to God, lets say a name or a statue because God is not comparable with anything. I have pictures of Jesus in my lap top but I dont pray to them neither I bow before them, even when it is Jesus this is idolatry, how do we know for sure this is the true image of Jesus? The bible says that Satan operates behind images (statues) to deceive people so we have to be careful with them
@sarah03ful You're getting closer. You started out (on a very Catholic page) condemning the Catholic Church. Now you can admit that the Church's teachings are not idolatry, but hard to follow. But that doesn't make the teachings wrong; it means you have to spend more time in them, in prayer. The site you've trusted is leading you astray. It states, "He was in His glorified body, no longer flesh and blood..." You don't believe this (praise God!!), so examine their other claims more closely.
even after the RCC does not officially teach to worship Mary, it is still wrong how they try to use her as an intermediate(when Jesus died in the cross the use of intermediates to approach God was abolished, Jesus is our only mediator now), and how they try to exalt her to a position the bible never gave her. Even when the RCC is not officially teaching to worship mary, it is driving people to worship her, so what does it matter if it is official or not, it may be de jure but it is not de facto
They are not putting into practice their doctrines and are engaging in idolatry. The pope who is supposed to be the teacher of all many times bowed down before Mary's statues, this is a form of worship. Concerning the site I have "trusted" (that by the way I dont trust sites but God's words which contradict the RCC), did you read the verse from 1 Corinthias I gave you? Read from verses 34-54 which go in line with the things this site is trying to say,
but even if this site was wrong, this is not the only site making these claims against the RCC but there are many others. You dont even have to hear to what they say but only read the bible and you will see how the RCC is wrong in many things they do. Regarding the picture of your wife and the wedding ring, you dont turn candles to them, you dont bow down before them, you dont pray to them right? dont you?
@sarah03ful I have been married to the same woman for 18 wonderful years (okay, 12 wonderful years and six that were pretty bad) I carry a picture of her and wear a wedding ring. These items are not my wife, but they remind me of her, of the vows I made to her -- they keep me in communion with her. The remind me to be faithful, they strengthen me. But let's be real, THEY don't do anything at all. They were tools used in my formation into a faithful husband and father. And they are still useful.
and to let you know, idolatry is not only clasified by worshipping false gods like ancient egyptian gods etc but things like movie stars, money, parties, men or women can also become your idols. They become your idols when you give devotion to them instead of giving your devotion to God alone. Giving devotion to someone else (like Mary) is a form of idolatry. God is the only one who is worthy of our devotion, veneration, worship and praise( or however you want to call it) and no one else
@sarah03ful The Catholic Church is VERY clear about her teachings. If you don't have a Catechism, catholicplanet(dot)com has an online version (I prefer print, with an index). If you were educating Catholics about the ACTUAL teachings of the Church, I wouldn't object. but you're condemning Christ's Church of being idolators because we ask saints for help. Have you heard a Catholic pray? We generally start and end with "in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."
@sarah03ful Likewise, statues of saints are not objects of worship. When people couldn't read, they were the Catechism of the poor; reminders of people who lived God's will, and sometimes died for it. I know you would love these saints if you knew their lives, but Protestantism has isolated you from the Church Triumphant; those saints and martyrs who have gone on to Glory. Satan has convinced entire congregations that it's sinful to learn of godly men, women and children, and ask for their aid.
yes it is important to remember what saints did for us but praying to them, bowing down before them, singing them songs is something else. YOu should inform your self more the on the origins of the RCC which comes from pagan origins. The RCC is a pagan church disguised as christianity. Read on ancient cults like "the queen of heaven", Isis "the mother of God and all humanity" and many others to inform yourself
@sarah03ful A Protestant once told me I was going to hell because I was fasting during Lent. He claimed that Jesus was the last sacrifice, so it was sinful to sacrifice any more. He was using a different meaning of the word "sacrifice". My wife is worthy of my devotion. My children are worthy of my praise. Veneration (a feeling or expression of awe or reverence)? I can think of many people who inspire others in this way. Don't put the dictionary before God, either. You're more sincere than that.
if you believe that we will b saved by works and not by faith alone yes, you will go to hell because we are saved by faith alone and not by works. It is not wrong if we fast to ask God for something, many christians do that, communion and baptism are observances we believers do to profess our faith in Jesus Christ but they should not be used as a way to obtain salvation. I think you are failing to understand that catholics dont feel a simple devotion to Mary like admiration for her obedience etc
it goes way farther than that, are you blind? Havent you seen those feasts they hold in her honor? they dont even celebrate Christ with the same passion and fervor they celebrate Mary. Mary is taking the place in the hearts of people that only Christ deserves. Havent you seen how they view her as a goddess who did them miracles? I grew up in a catholic home and I know perfectly how catholics view mary. different. I am pretty sure you dont view your wife as a goddess.
@sarah03ful I've read gotquestion's pages on Isis, et. al., and I don't see a valid point. (I also haven't verified their claims with other sources yet.) There were other gods that died and rose again, and the people that worshipped them were converted to Christianity, but I don't think it invalidates Christ. And in Acts 17, Paul makes use of a temple to an unknown god to enlighten the Athenians about the one true God. I don't think that correcting misdirected faith invalidates God's message.
so dont compare mary with your wife, yes God commanded a man to love his wife as Christ loves the Church but the Mary thing is something totally different. I have read official catholic doctrines and the sites like the one you are asking me to look into dont portray them as they truly are. I will try to find them again to show them to you, just give me time cause I dont remember the sites. And once again why would you ask saint and mary for help when the bible makes it very clear that Christ
is our only mediator between God and man? Do you know what it means that the curtain of the temple was torn in two when Chris died? it means that there was no separation between God and man anymore, God would not use mediators anymore for people to approach Him because now people could approach Him direcly without using intermediates. Stick that your head, there is ONLY ONE mediator and that is JESUS CHRIST.
Look at the Isis statues, they are siimilar to the ones the RCC has of mary holding
@Pj100003

When we as Catholics identify with Mary and make ourselves a part of her relationship with Christ, when we live in the relationship between those two, Jesus and Mary, we are identifying ourselves as the True Church of God, by all of those four indications.
God bless all who read this.

that Mary is the "new eve" , the "new ark of the covenant" these are things you are interpreting yourself according to your way of thinking, you have no grounds that support your statements.
In revelations 12, that woman giving to birth is Israel(Israel is the place where Jesus came from), and satan hates Israel and will persecute.
sarah03ful 1 week ago
@pj100003

Jesus never exalted Mary the way the RCC does.
Just read Mark 3:31-34 where mary went to look for Jesus and asked for Him telling she was his mother and Jesus answered "Who are my mother and my brothers?" Jesus refused to listen to Mary or even acknowledge her
In luke 11:27-28 a woman told Jesus "blessed is the woman who nursed you" and Jesus turned around and told her "blessed are those who listen to God's words and obey them"
Jesus one more time refused to exalt Mary.

"Say unto the [Davidic] King and the Queen Mother: Come down off your thrones, before your glorious crowns fall off your heads!"— Jeremiah 13:18
Let's go through each type one by one; There are four major types that one can use to demonstrate Mary's role in the Church today:

Jeremiah 13:18 says

I will not...
pj100003 1 week ago
As a general comment to Whoever it may concern:
The Holy Spirit guides all men but the Bishops as the Clergy ordained by the Apostles (see 2nd Timothy 2:5-6, 1st Timothy 4:14, Titus 2:15, Titus 3:10, and Acts 6:3-6) who have been ordained Biblically within the Catholic Church have the authority to teach Christians doctrine and to identify heresy, something not given to all men but specifically to the Clergy who have been given that authority by their Biblical ordination.
pj100003 1 week ago

Right pronunciation of ave! In Latin it is pronounces awe.
DrNoahofChina 4 months ago
@DrNoahofChina That's the presumed Classical Latin pronunciation. The Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation is actually "ah-vay", with the voiced /v/ sound. Several other pronunciations are different from Classical Latin, as well. Caelis in Ecclesiastical Latin is pronounced "chay-lis", while the Classical pronunciation is presumed to be "kai-lis".

I am a roman catholic and yes i have questioned the bible reading but their are from followers of god bringing the old and new testiment you must understand whatever you wish to say do so atheists, jews, etc etc i belive god will let us belive whatever we choose. think ...

Mary is a "born again" Christian who received the Holy Spirit at the Pentecost and spoke in tongues 2000 years before Pentecostals got the gift. (Acts 1:14, 2:3) She knows how to pray - yes even in tongues :-)

Luther further claims:
One should honor Mary as she herself wished and as she expressed it in the Magnificat. She praised God for his deeds. How then can we praise her? The true honor of Mary is the honor of God, the praise of God's grace . . . Mary is nothing for the sake of herself, but for the sake of Christ . . . Mary does not wish that we come to her, but through her to God. (Explanation of the Magnificat, 1521)

Jesus said in John 14:6 that He is the ONLY way,
sarah03ful 8 months ago
@sarah03ful And that is what we, Catholics, hold true as well. Mary DOES help and can intercede, however. Remember, Revelation 8:3 clearly states that even the angels pray to the Saints.

where in the bible does it say that Mary intercedes for us? According to 1 timothy 2:5 "there is one mediator and that is Jesus" According to John 14:6 "Jesus is the ONLY way", according to Acts 4:12 "salvation is found in no one else but ONLY in Jesus Christ", where did you get that Mary can intercede for us and hear millions of prayers at the same time from different people from different places of the world? the sacrifices were not only for purification but also for forgiveness of sins, read Leviticus 12:8 carefully it says: "If she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for A SIN offering.

Mary was godly & righteous woman, but that she was sinless is totally unbiblical as are ALL the other things the RCC teaches about her.

Please do not quote Holy Scripture to Catholics to support your individual interpretations. We only interpret it according to what the Catholic Church teaches, who has safeguarded and compiled the Holy Bible in its most authoritative form. This prayer came from the Holy Bible, spoken by the Angel Gabriel during the Annunciation, her cousin Elizabeth during the Visitation, and all Catholics ask her to pray for us, because her Son-who did not refuse her in Cana-gave her to us to be our mother.
stmargarettac 9 months ago 35
if the bible contradicts the catholic church are you going to believe a man more than God? The bible speaks for itself, and is very clear when it says Mary was a sinner (she offered a sacrifice for the forgiveness of her sins Luke 2:24 obeying the laws in Leviticus 12:8 on how mothers were to offer sacrifices for their sins). The bible is very clear, what other interpretations do you want? Jesus never exalted Mary but refused to exalt her Luke 11:27-28 or to even listen to her Mark 3:31-34.
sarah03ful 9 months ago
The bible NEVER talks about praying to Mary, the Rosary is NOT biblical, the annuciation, Mary's visit to Elizabeth do not suggest us praying to Mary, these passages actually contradict the catholic church, during the annunciation, the angel told Mary " Greetings Mary you who are highly favored", the phrase "highly favored" suggests that Mary was chosen not because there was something especial in her but by God's grace (an unmerited favor). God chose her as a favor to her
sarah03ful 9 months ago
When Elizabeth told Mary "blessed are you" she told her this not because of her but because of the child she was carrying. It is like when you receive a blessing from God and someone tells you that you are a blessed person but this does not suggest worship.
The wedding at cana teaches us that when we care for other's problems(like when Mary was concerned about the couple running out of wine) God starts to do His work(this was Jesus' first miracle) but this does not suggest prayer to Mary
sarah03ful 9 months ago
@stmargarettac
sorry it is not my intention to troll you with so many posts but where do you get that Jesus gave Mary to us as a mother? Tell me a bible verse which even suggests that? Are you talking about when Jesus told John "here is your mother" in John chapter 19? if that is so then you are twisting scripture, this doesnt suggest Mary becoming mother of all the living but only of John
sarah03ful 9 months ago
@stmargarettac The second half, "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners," etc., was written by the Roman church. It is not in the Bible. Eastern Catholics, in communion with Rome, use the following: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou hast borne Christ the Saviour, the deliverer of our souls. Mary is honored because she brought us Christ, not in her own right.

Agape!
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
Mary was a human just like any of us who was chosen by God's GRACE (something God gives us even though we dont deserve it) for Jesus to become a man, that is all.
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful And I think you're hurting your own understanding when you equate veneration, praise and worship. I believe you would (rightly) venerate someone who had spent decades in service to God and personally had a positive impact on your life. You would praise them for their faith and their deeds and wouldn't hesitate to look at their example or ask for their advice and prayers when you faced difficulties. But you wouldn't confuse that with worship, and neither do we. Thank you for asking,
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
there is nothing in the bible that suggests God listens less to a sinner than a sace. int but makes it clear that WE all can approach Him with confidence. Nothing in the bible suggests that people who have died have God-like attributes like listening millions of prayers at the same time, and yes you have horribly exalted Mary to a position the bible NEVER gave her, the bible barely mentions her but you have exalted her even above God.
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
and I am not talking about ignorant catholics but about people like the pope, when he died, he gave up his soul to whom to Jesus? No, to mary, he left the church in charge of Jesus? No, in charge of Mary, when he got shot, who did he thank for not losing his life Jesus? No, Mary. When he died he had the name of Mary written in his casket. You will be saved based on the relationship you have with Jesus but the problem is that catholics dont have a relationship with Jesus but with Mary
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
mary cant do anything for you but only Jesus
according to Acts 4:12 salvation is found in NO ONE else for there is NO other name under heaven given by which we must be saved
according to John 14:6 Jesus is the ONLY way no man comes to the father EXCEPT through Him.
Mary here is only like a 0 to the left, yes she is to be admired for here obedience and godliness but Jesus is the ONLY one who can save you
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful I understand now why you chose to comment on such a Catholic song. I think your attacks on other Christians will come to be something you regret. The Catholic church has been defending herself for over 2,000 years. The answers to your questions are readily available. I recommend catholic .com for some actual Catholic answers. I know that you have been taught to hate Catholics (or at least our beliefs), but we ARE Christians, and have carried the teachings of Christ through time.
BeauG7 2 months ago
@sarah03ful I'm sorry, but individual verses out of context don't carry a lot of weight with me. (Satan quotes scripture, too.) Your common sense approach applied to Mt. 27:50 would seem to indicate that we don't need Jesus, since we can approach God directly. (I know that's not your belief.) Re: Heb. 4:16 and Phil. 4:6; so do we pray to God or to Jesus? And I imagine that you would ask your preacher to pray for you before you'd ask a wife-beating womanizer? (Saints before sinners?)
BeauG7 2 months ago
@sarah03ful And to use an analogy, if I go to court and hire an attorney (or a whole team of them) to speak for me, and call witnesses to vouch for me, I don't think the judge would think I was placing any of them above his authority. We don't worship Mary (or any saint), any more than you worship your preacher, or grandparents, or whoever is the most holy, righteous, saintly person you know. We ask them to take up our cause, and present our petitions to God Almighty (like in Rev. 5:8).
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
Revelations 5:8 does not have anything to do with what you are saying. We, all born again believers, are the saints. and talk to me about reading the bible out of context, the catholic church is really good in doing that, most of the verses they use to justify their doctrines have been read out of context. The verses I gave you make it clear that we can approach God without using intermediates, and that Jesus is the ONLy way to our salvation, I dont know how more clear they can be
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful Revelations 5:8 "And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people." Saints presenting prayers to Jesus. And the verses you quoted say that we don't need any intermediates, and that Jesus is the only intermediate. That's not necessarily clear.
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
yes but we all are God's people, the saints, we can ask each other here on earth to pray for each other but prayers to the dead is something different, anyways, many catholics do not ask mary to intercede for them but they actually ask her to direcly help them, they view her as a goddess who can do them miracles. This is all idolatry.
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful There are misguided and misinformed Catholics, just as there are Protestants. @BeauG7

BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
You say that God will listen more to a saint like Mary than to us but the bible says Jesus intercedes for us Hebrews 7:25 so who do you think God is going to listen to more, to mary or Jesus? to Jesus obviously, so why go to mary instead of going to Jesus.
& yes there r misguided catholics because the Catholic leaders promote this, just think about pope John Paul 11, Matt 5 says if something is causing us to sin we must cut it off for it is better to lose that than getting into hell
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful Actually, what I was trying to say is that God is more likely to hear someone in communion with Him (a saint or repentant sinner) than someone at odds with His will (a confirmed sinner). I'm not advocating praying to saints INSTEAD of Christ. Rather, I ask them to add their voices to mine and present my prayers to God. Let me ask this: in Rev. 5:8, whose prayers do you believe the saints are presenting to the lamb that was slain?
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
would mean all this time you have been living in a lie. The only guarantee you will ever get are the things God wrote in the bible, if it is there, then it is true, but if it is not there then who knows whether you are being deceived by false prophets or not. RCC teachings are something serious to me because the souls of millions of people are in danger of going to hell for putting their faith on a man(the pope) rather than putting their faith in Christ alone.
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
I dont think Revelations 5:8 is referring to people who have been deceased and are in heaven with God. It is talking about everyone (us) all who are born again christians and have put our faith in Christ alone, we all our God's saints. May be it is not the official teaching of the RCC to advocte prayers to Mary instead of Christ but they are doing it, many people dont come to christ anymore but rather to mary, just remember the examples i gave you from the pope, on how Christ is
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
being left to the side, the pope is an excellent example Matthew 7:21-24

BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
according to Ephesians 2:8 we are saved by faith alone and not by works, Romans 11:5-6 says, "There's a remnant chosen by grace and if by grace it is NO longer by works. If it were, grace would no longer be grace"
Read all the first chapters of Romans which clearly say that we are justified by faith alone and not by works or by observing the Law. Baptism, Communion are works that are a result of our faith in Jesus Christ but they alone are now what will save us
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
John 20;30 is saying that Jesus performed many miracles not written in the bible, but whatever is written in the bible is all we need to be saved,
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful He then turned to the Twelve and offered them the same choice; believe what I say or hit the road. Peter's reply? “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." Have you turned from him because you couldn't understand?
BeauG7 2 months ago
Jesus was there with the disciples when He instituted communion, it would've been impossible for the disciples to literally be eating Him for real because Jesus was still with them.
What the catholic church teaches that Jesus keeps resacrificing for us over and over again is unbiblical. Hebrews 7:27 says "Jesus does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins ONCE for all when He offered Himself."
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
I dont know how more clear it can be to you
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful You've chosen to take Paul's word over Christ's, and then accuse all Catholics of following man-made doctrines. Especially since Jesus could speak to us all, even today. John 6:63-64 is after Jesus allowed many of his disciples to leave because of what he said. He also used different words for "eat" that served to intensify the idea, not correct it. We don't believe that the eucharist is a re-sacrifice, but that it makes us present at the original sacrifice.
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
You should read more what the cathecism teaches, it does teach that Jesus resacrifices over and over again
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful I don't think the Catholic church fails in its teachings when its followers don't fully understand, any more than Christ "failed" when the crowds he addressed didn't understand. I don't know if you'd attack him for misleading his followers, but gotquestions(dot)org stated that the early church "should have made producing copies of the Scriptures a high priority." Since the early church didn't, I think that shows that building the church was more important than building the library.
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
on what the RCC really teaches(most catholics dont really know the meaning of all RCC practices) and compare it and you will see these are unbiblical things. You say you dont believe in sola scriptura but even when a church is doing things that goes against the bible? things like worshipping mary (many catholics do even when you try to deny it), saying Jesus resacrifices over and over again, saying we are saved by works and by observing the law when Paul made it clear in the
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful The problem that I have with sola scriptura is that the New Testament never claims to be all you need (how could it, it wasn't part of the bible until the 4th century). When Paul talks about scripture what do you think he means? The scriptures that he studied didn't include his letters and certainly not letters he hadn't written yet. Jesus didn't write any of the New Testament with His own hand, so I think he placed more importance on teaching his followers than starting a book club.
BeauG7 2 months ago
@BeauG7
first chapters of the book of Romans that we are not justified by works or by observing the Law?,
saying that when we die we are going to purgatory(so in other words Jesus failed in His mission of paying for our sins when He died in the cross for us and that is reason why we still have to pay for our sins in purgatory?), using intermediates when the bible clearly states that the use of intermediates is gone. I could go on and on to tell you how the RCC contradicts the bible
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
but the thing is that you are the one who has to make the decision to open your eyes, I cant open them for you. When you finally do you will realize that the RCC is defenetely not the church that Jesus Christ founded.
and I dont belong to any denomination.
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@BeauG7
and I forgot to mention the RCC practice of worshipping images when God made it clear that this is an ABOMINATION to him, is there anything else more for me to add so that you understand that the RCC is all idolatry?
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful There's a lot more that you forgot to mention, but I can assure you that I've heard most of it before. And I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you, we should ALL learn more about what the Catholic church teaches (catholic .com is a great place to start). I don't know the hearts of people praying to Mary any more than you do (I sincerely hope you're not claiming THAT ability, too), but I can tell you that the Church does NOT teach worship of Mary or saints, and certainly not stone statues!
BeauG7 2 months ago
you are giving me this site but the thing is that many catholic sites do not actually claim catholic doctrines as they are officially written in the vatican, if you read them you will realize they dont go in line with the bible. May be it is not the official position of the RCC to worship mary but they dont enforce it and as a result many people actually end up worshipping mary. The bible describes bowing down before an image as worship, the Pope many times bowed down before Mary statues and
sarah03ful 2 months ago
the people do the same. If something causes you to sin cut it off
sarah03ful 2 months ago
for it is better to lose that than being thrown into hell (Matthew 5). In exodus 3:13-14, Moses asked God who He was and God said "I am who I am" meaning that you can not
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful I was in a house a few years back to work on a computer. They insisted that I remove my shoes before entering that room because their god was in there (a grandfather or something). They believed that his spirit was there in a picture (or among several items, I didn't ask) and they worshipped him daily. THAT is idol worship. Making a statue and worshipping the statue or what it represents AS GOD is idol worship. Praying to those who served God (and are now in heaven) is not.
BeauG7 2 months ago
compare God with anything. You can not use something to refer to God, lets say a name or a statue because God is not comparable with anything. I have pictures of Jesus in my lap top but I dont pray to them neither I bow before them, even when it is Jesus this is idolatry, how do we know for sure this is the true image of Jesus? The bible says that Satan operates behind images (statues) to deceive people so we have to be careful with them
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful You're getting closer. You started out (on a very Catholic page) condemning the Catholic Church. Now you can admit that the Church's teachings are not idolatry, but hard to follow. But that doesn't make the teachings wrong; it means you have to spend more time in them, in prayer. The site you've trusted is leading you astray. It states, "He was in His glorified body, no longer flesh and blood..." You don't believe this (praise God!!), so examine their other claims more closely.
BeauG7 2 months ago
even after the RCC does not officially teach to worship Mary, it is still wrong how they try to use her as an intermediate(when Jesus died in the cross the use of intermediates to approach God was abolished, Jesus is our only mediator now), and how they try to exalt her to a position the bible never gave her. Even when the RCC is not officially teaching to worship mary, it is driving people to worship her, so what does it matter if it is official or not, it may be de jure but it is not de facto
sarah03ful 2 months ago
They are not putting into practice their doctrines and are engaging in idolatry. The pope who is supposed to be the teacher of all many times bowed down before Mary's statues, this is a form of worship. Concerning the site I have "trusted" (that by the way I dont trust sites but God's words which contradict the RCC), did you read the verse from 1 Corinthias I gave you? Read from verses 34-54 which go in line with the things this site is trying to say,
sarah03ful 2 months ago
but even if this site was wrong, this is not the only site making these claims against the RCC but there are many others. You dont even have to hear to what they say but only read the bible and you will see how the RCC is wrong in many things they do. Regarding the picture of your wife and the wedding ring, you dont turn candles to them, you dont bow down before them, you dont pray to them right? dont you?
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful I have been married to the same woman for 18 wonderful years (okay, 12 wonderful years and six that were pretty bad) I carry a picture of her and wear a wedding ring. These items are not my wife, but they remind me of her, of the vows I made to her -- they keep me in communion with her. The remind me to be faithful, they strengthen me. But let's be real, THEY don't do anything at all. They were tools used in my formation into a faithful husband and father. And they are still useful.
BeauG7 2 months ago
and to let you know, idolatry is not only clasified by worshipping false gods like ancient egyptian gods etc but things like movie stars, money, parties, men or women can also become your idols. They become your idols when you give devotion to them instead of giving your devotion to God alone. Giving devotion to someone else (like Mary) is a form of idolatry. God is the only one who is worthy of our devotion, veneration, worship and praise( or however you want to call it) and no one else
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful The Catholic Church is VERY clear about her teachings. If you don't have a Catechism, catholicplanet(dot)com has an online version (I prefer print, with an index). If you were educating Catholics about the ACTUAL teachings of the Church, I wouldn't object. but you're condemning Christ's Church of being idolators because we ask saints for help. Have you heard a Catholic pray? We generally start and end with "in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."
BeauG7 2 months ago
@sarah03ful Likewise, statues of saints are not objects of worship. When people couldn't read, they were the Catechism of the poor; reminders of people who lived God's will, and sometimes died for it. I know you would love these saints if you knew their lives, but Protestantism has isolated you from the Church Triumphant; those saints and martyrs who have gone on to Glory. Satan has convinced entire congregations that it's sinful to learn of godly men, women and children, and ask for their aid.
BeauG7 2 months ago
yes it is important to remember what saints did for us but praying to them, bowing down before them, singing them songs is something else. YOu should inform your self more the on the origins of the RCC which comes from pagan origins. The RCC is a pagan church disguised as christianity. Read on ancient cults like "the queen of heaven", Isis "the mother of God and all humanity" and many others to inform yourself
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful A Protestant once told me I was going to hell because I was fasting during Lent. He claimed that Jesus was the last sacrifice, so it was sinful to sacrifice any more. He was using a different meaning of the word "sacrifice". My wife is worthy of my devotion. My children are worthy of my praise. Veneration (a feeling or expression of awe or reverence)? I can think of many people who inspire others in this way. Don't put the dictionary before God, either. You're more sincere than that.
BeauG7 2 months ago
if you believe that we will b saved by works and not by faith alone yes, you will go to hell because we are saved by faith alone and not by works. It is not wrong if we fast to ask God for something, many christians do that, communion and baptism are observances we believers do to profess our faith in Jesus Christ but they should not be used as a way to obtain salvation. I think you are failing to understand that catholics dont feel a simple devotion to Mary like admiration for her obedience etc
sarah03ful 2 months ago
it goes way farther than that, are you blind? Havent you seen those feasts they hold in her honor? they dont even celebrate Christ with the same passion and fervor they celebrate Mary. Mary is taking the place in the hearts of people that only Christ deserves. Havent you seen how they view her as a goddess who did them miracles? I grew up in a catholic home and I know perfectly how catholics view mary. different. I am pretty sure you dont view your wife as a goddess.
sarah03ful 2 months ago
@sarah03ful I've read gotquestion's pages on Isis, et. al., and I don't see a valid point. (I also haven't verified their claims with other sources yet.) There were other gods that died and rose again, and the people that worshipped them were converted to Christianity, but I don't think it invalidates Christ. And in Acts 17, Paul makes use of a temple to an unknown god to enlighten the Athenians about the one true God. I don't think that correcting misdirected faith invalidates God's message.
BeauG7 2 months ago
so dont compare mary with your wife, yes God commanded a man to love his wife as Christ loves the Church but the Mary thing is something totally different. I have read official catholic doctrines and the sites like the one you are asking me to look into dont portray them as they truly are. I will try to find them again to show them to you, just give me time cause I dont remember the sites. And once again why would you ask saint and mary for help when the bible makes it very clear that Christ
sarah03ful 2 months ago
is our only mediator between God and man? Do you know what it means that the curtain of the temple was torn in two when Chris died? it means that there was no separation between God and man anymore, God would not use mediators anymore for people to approach Him because now people could approach Him direcly without using intermediates. Stick that your head, there is ONLY ONE mediator and that is JESUS CHRIST.
Look at the Isis statues, they are siimilar to the ones the RCC has of mary holding
