I actually have mixed feelings about this kind of childhood indoctrination. My chemistry teacher says carbon dating only puts you in a ball park from a time span of a couple thousand years to a couple million years. Sounds like crap to me

I actually have mixed feelings about this kind of childhood indoctrination. The dumb ones may remain creationists but when the intelligent ones eventually learn about evolution and the overwhelming evidence supporting it, they will often reject christianity outright because they've been taught for so long that christianity and evolution are incompatible.
Christians are shooting themselves in the foot by doing this. As an atheist, I'm fine with that.

Science is not about absolutes. Only religion deals in absolutes. The issue of Pluto demonstrates the strengths of science: it learns and adapts taking new info in and discarding errors. As more info came in, the definitions needed to be changed. Science looks and moves forward. Religion always looks and moves backwards and is incapable of learning.

As an independent moderate I found this documentary lazy and ineffective. If Pelosi actually put some hard work and energy into this it could have been a much more in-depth look at those who voted for McCain and not just picking easy targets. On the other end of the spectrum a right wind documentarian could have done the same and just found over the top liberals to use 60 minutes spouting fringe type statements. Lazy filmmaking.

I agree that the presentation was far too short. I would have happily watched a nine hour segment. Additionally, it would have been more effective had she done in depth interviews with those who were given screen time. That said, I was by no means surprised by the comments these folks made, as they echoed, consistently, the hyperbolic rhetoric of McCain/Palin rallies, especially the notion that Obama is a terrorist sympathizer or a Muslim or crypto-communist. They parroted what they heard.

of course, that is assuming that carbon dating is accurate... which it is not. there is no way it could be. we have absolutely no way of knowing how much was in there when it was alive so there's no way you could date it by the lack of carbon. and i am not religious, but i am a Christian. i'm a Christian because i know that God is here and loves us and He has blessed me so much in my life.

My chemistry teacher says carbon dating only puts you in a ball park from a time span of a couple thousand years to a couple million years. Sounds like crap to me

how can you denegrate the hard work of hundreds of scientists? its not crap at all its a genious way to get an estimate of how old things are and for you to sit there and call it crap is ridiculous. yes ok we give or take a million years but we can accurately estimate the age of things by about a factor of 2.

This makes me angry. Why do people insist on believing something from a book written anywhere between 1000-2000 years ago and yet dismiss all the science\wisdom\common sense that has gone since.
