And oh Jesus and the disciples walked in Nazareth but the trail was blocked by a giant brontosaurus with a splinter in his paw.
And oh the disciples did run and shriek "what a big fuckin' lizard Lord!" But Jesus was unafraid and he took the splinter from the brontosaurus' paw and the big lizard became his friend. Iodestone77, you don't know anything about religion. You and so many other silly atheists constantly talk about science but generally know NOTHING ABOUT IT. "schience without religion is lame"? Did you hear that from a high school kid or something? Or maybe a Bob Jones University student? That makes no sense whatsoever. Religion has been the enemy of science since the birth of both, and the world will not become the garden of Eden until we cast off all ridiculous superstitions and live lives based in reality, rather that praying to imaginary fucking spacemen.
Actually, religion and science have always been closely related due to their pursuit of knowledge of the unknown.

Big ball of fire in the sky? Must be some sentient being that is ruling our fate! Sounds good!
You're referring to organized religion. Being told what to believe by others is obviously bullshit. I mean religion in the personal sense, ie what YOU believe, regardless or in spite of of what others try to tell you.
All religion is organized. If you hold personal beliefs about god/s those are not religious ideas, but spiritual ones. Religion, by its very definition, is the organized teaching and ritualization of these kinds of ideas.
@TheMillsEffect You're referring to faith which is a load of BS, what you believe has absolutely nothing to do whit the truth, you should always search the truth and not seek comfort in any sort of belief which claims to know anything, for truth is a pathless land. Religion is organized belief so religion has absolutely nothing to do whit any personal level, it's simply a belief that is shared by more people.
@onelove5191 Jesus was a Semitic Jew, which means he didn't look European at all. More recent gospels have included physical descriptions of Jesus that paint him as somewhat hunched with small, intense eyes and a large, crooked nose, not what the church was peddling in those days as a benevolent savior. Look at the shroud and look at a dictionary for a definition of proof. There is no proof in religion THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF IT!!!
@BaNeK8 idk, i dont really care either way. im not arguing or anything btw. im a strong believer in god and jesus and all. but i see what you are saying.
@onelove5191 Look I don't give a rats ass what u believe as long as u don't support those EVIL bastards that run the church, if you really believe please read the bible if you would then there is no way that you could advocate religion!!! And how the FUCK can you believe in something that you know nothing about is beyond me? You don't believe in god you believe in a story someone told you! Don't take it personally this goes to all those that claim to believe in god and visit churches.
@BaNeK8 What i believe is whats in the bible, which is what is read and discussed at the church i go to. And, no i dont support the evil bastards that run the catholic church because they are the ones that try and rule everything and try tell everybody what to believe. Christians for the most part accept anybody's beliefs.
@onelove5191 Yes I agree whit that, real christians do, but today there is a lot of people who say they are christians and yet they do not live as they should according to the book. Please tell me where in the book does it say that there should be any church whatsoever either as a building or an organization? Is there no other place to discuss it then your church? You have the book, so why in gods name do we need any priests or temples?
@BaNeK8 Yeah i see where you are coming from, I personally think people go to church to get a better understanding of what the bible says, because the bibles are written for the most part in the older english language and some people arents good at interpreting what it says. Thats why I go to the church i go to, and it also has more of a family feeling to it. And i agree, there is alot of people that say they are christians when they really dont know what christianity is.
agree there is a place for spirituality in life, and I think spirituality is what you mean when you say "absolute religion". But religion has always and will always be a machination of imperfect men. Men who are lower than even the skeeviest used car salesman, as what they are selling promises something as precious as enlightenment, and delivers only a pack of lies and fear.
I would think they took comfort from knowing their son lived his life the way he wanted to. They knew full well what their son believed. He spent he last weeks of his life, unable to speak, living with his parents and showing them documentaries on things important to him. That included documentaries about how religion is a cancer on society.
Besides, just because something gives comfort does not make it good. Many families of murder victims would find it comforting to torture the perpetrators to death, but we don't allow that.
A crazy man may find comfort in speaking to plants, that does not mean we should all speak to plants and trust them to guide our lives.
@TheMillsEffect no offense dude but you should have done what most uploaders did when uploading a video that contains contents that talk religion did..... remove comments. ohhh btw thnx for upload :)
I can tell you must be a serious reader, because you make your point so eloquently.
Lemme tell you a little truth, since it is what you claim to seek. This is a Bill Hick YouTube video comments thread. Bill Hicks is a hero for many atheists today. Coming here and YELLING about how atheism is stupid is not going to get you anywhere. You have chosen the wrong forum for your garbage....
...I don't waste my time arguing with fundamentalist Christians in their heroes' YouTube comments threads, and I suggest you stop wasting your time trying to argue with me. You will fail to change my mind, as all you seem to be capable of is yelling and profanity. FACTS change my mind, not idiots yelling and calling me names in YouTube threads...
...As for the origins of science: it is tied to our pre-history. The first human being to observe his environment, use his observations to form a hypothesis, and then test that hypothesis empirically was, without knowing it, practicing science.
The very nature of religion is in conflict with observation. Religion talks about what is NOT observable. I don't mean not observable right now, like in the case of dark matter or the future. I mean not observable ever. Not now, not before, never..
..So to sum up, the first scientists were the ancient humans who observed that clubs made killing easier and figured out how to harness and use fire. The abstract notion of 'science' would not exist for a long time, but they were ahead of their time ;)
You might very well be a very nice guy, and maybe even an intelligent one DOLLAR1. But you are doing yourself a dis-service by acting like a boor. We are a thread dull of folks who thing religion is silly. Why am I a clown for that? Hmmm?
Bill wasn't an atheist, he actually experimented with altered states of conscience and was more or less gnostic. It's really simple when you remove the speculative from religion. The "Unseen" forces are readily available and viewed through by various simple techniques. As far as the scientific process goes look at Hinduism in it's scientific branches.

@BaNeK8 idk, i dont really care either way. im not arguing or anything btw. im a strong believer in god and jesus and all. but i see what you are saying.
onelove5191 1 year ago
@onelove5191 Look I don't give a rats ass what u believe as long as u don't support those EVIL bastards that run the church, if you really believe please read the bible if you would then there is no way that you could advocate religion!!! And how the FUCK can you believe in something that you know nothing about is beyond me? You don't believe in god you believe in a story someone told you! Don't take it personally this goes to all those that claim to believe in god and visit churches.
BaNeK8 1 year ago
@BaNeK8 What i believe is whats in the bible, which is what is read and discussed at the church i go to. And, no i dont support the evil bastards that run the catholic church because they are the ones that try and rule everything and try tell everybody what to believe. Christians for the most part accept anybody's beliefs.
onelove5191 1 year ago
@onelove5191 Yes I agree whit that, real christians do, but today there is a lot of people who say they are christians and yet they do not live as they should according to the book. Please tell me where in the book does it say that there should be any church whatsoever either as a building or an organization? Is there no other place to discuss it then your church? You have the book, so why in gods name do we need any priests or temples?
BaNeK8 1 year ago
@BaNeK8 Yeah i see where you are coming from, I personally think people go to church to get a better understanding of what the bible says, because the bibles are written for the most part in the older english language and some people arents good at interpreting what it says. Thats why I go to the church i go to, and it also has more of a family feeling to it. And i agree, there is alot of people that say they are christians when they really dont know what christianity is.

I think that would be called spirituality. Religion is always organized.
justinisboss 1 year ago
agree there is a place for spirituality in life, and I think spirituality is what you mean when you say "absolute religion". But religion has always and will always be a machination of imperfect men. Men who are lower than even the skeeviest used car salesman, as what they are selling promises something as precious as enlightenment, and delivers only a pack of lies and fear.

imaginary spacemen that I bet gave Hick's family some comfort after he died.
furQ 2 years ago
I would think they took comfort from knowing their son lived his life the way he wanted to. They knew full well what their son believed. He spent he last weeks of his life, unable to speak, living with his parents and showing them documentaries on things important to him. That included documentaries about how religion is a cancer on society.
lodestone77 2 years ago 2

You have chosen the wrong forum for your garbage....
lodestone77 2 years ago 4
...I don't waste my time arguing with fundamentalist Christians in their heroes' YouTube comments threads, and I suggest you stop wasting your time trying to argue with me.

Not now, not before, never..
lodestone77 2 years ago
..So to sum up, the first scientists were the ancient humans who observed that clubs made killing easier and figured out how to harness and use fire.
Hmmm?
lodestone77 2 years ago
Bill wasn't an atheist, he actually experimented with altered states of conscience and was more or less gnostic. It's really simple when you remove the speculative from religion. The "Unseen" forces are readily available and viewed through by various simple techniques. As far as the scientific process goes look at Hinduism in it's scientific branches.
