  • this game was meant for a certain group of people if your not part of the mindset of the group youl find the game very dull

  • enhancements and feats can be reset (cheaply w/ in-game money, esp. at lower lvls), however, the stats cant be reset w/ in-game money (you need to pay RL cash); many ppl dont, for example, monks (melee) basically NEED 14-16 DEX starting

pvp wasnt promoted (ddo players were against pvp at all, this was the compromise) because itd require they hurt pve w/ balance issues

also, if you count sub-levels, there are 100 levels

loot isnt random, its tuned for your class see your options (changeable)

  • I was upset when they introduced pvp to DDO, and I've never played it. D&D is not about PVP. It's about cooperative play. I understand that they had to add it. Too bad you couldn't get your pally up past level 10 (or 3 for that matter) and show some of the really cool scenes. One more thing. You're wrong about melee bring boring. In group settings you have to make sure you have aggro, you should be using power attacks, uncanny dodge, etc. There's plenty to think about.

  • @lucduchien I played my character up to level 6, actually. I did party with other players. I was personally bored because I like to do more than just hold down one weapon to autoswing. Your own mileage may vary.

  • @jfreedan you may think you sound complex but the simplicity isnt so simple. for me its about comparing a single swing and the dmge i do on different enemies and the more dmge i do in a single swing the happier i am. so melee for me is about always ALWAYS looking for a better weapon and always always INCREASING the dmge i do in a single strike.

so for you its nothing for me its a entire universe, as there are many weapons and many mods that make the weapon effective.

  • i agree with almost everything except the WoW alternative.

  • This video is funny to watch, because opinions is based on the main stream MMO's. The only thing that isn't true is that DDO uses the 3 system of D&D. DDO uses the 3.5 system from D&D. Besides these two points this video gives you a pretty good idea of what the game is about.

  • @GatekeeperCruelman Uh, 3.5 is just some errata that was added to third edition to address some balance issues. It is not incorrect to say the game uses 3rd edition rules because it does.

  • end it is a usa game Nat a jrpg you moron

  • Thanks for this review, I've been looking for a new MMO, I can't afford $15/month for EVE anymore.

  • @Grimm712 guild wars 2 all the way its gonna be awesome

  • @Grimm712 youll like this then,you can stay f2p or go monthly sub 10 a month ^^

  • Very informed review and solid analysis to standard MMORPGs and the one being looked at. I play DND so I felt connections to DND rules and how they were implemented , and what are some standards of MMORPGs.

  • @biggamefreak Thanks. That is basically my style of reviewing. I often evaluate the mechanics of a game and judge it based on whether I think they are good for the target audience.

  • @jfreedan I have noticed. I looked at much of your work, such as History of Computer and Console RPGs, How to be a Good Game Reviewer, What Video Games Really Teach Kids, and much of your individual reviews. I love the way you look at a game logically and your focus on target audience. (Your Dr. Bartle video was Amazing.) You are easily one of my top favorite reviewers.

  • you know why i know the developers of this game are morons, the steal from other games like for instance fire emblem, yes i saw the "Soren's Handwraps" and no i dont think thats a kawinkidink ( hope i never have to attempt to spell that again )

  • @CrazyOneToadette Soren is a real name used by various fictional characters. It's more likely the item was named after one of the designer's D&D characters who played a monk. That's not unusual for designers of D&D games to do, even with the computer adaptations.

  • @CrazyOneToadette Kierkegaard called. He wants his name back. Seriously though, I don't think Fire Emblem can own the name of one of the most famous philosophers; with or without the 'ø '.

I'm curious how they handle loot. From what I recall, D&D was never as loot oriented as a game like WoW. It has a huge number of magical items, but not of the sort WoW uses. Does this version have a WoW like progression of loot?

  • @Priest4hire Sort of. Search "Epic crafting DDO Wiki".

  • Before this review I hadn't really heard anything about this game thanks for the scoop.

  • I like JRPGs better.

Just kidding, I know you hate the term lol.

  • looks pretty cool to me, although I really know nothing about D&D and would probably be lost beyond belief lol

any way to be a spellsword or something of the like in this game?

  • @HeWhoEnjoysTehVids Yes you can be a spellsword.

  • @jfreedan sweet

    *looks up builds*

  • Solid review as always, you ever think about about lining up some of these free to play mmos and you reviewed in a new video and ranking them against each other? Just to see which one is more worthwhile playing than the other?

  • @goldenjoeblow There's way too many F2P MMORPGs out there. I probably won't review them all. I am going to be reviewing several of them.

  • @jfreedan Well I don't mean all of them, just the ones you plan on reviewing.

  • Wow, you really went all out with your analysis. This is a lot more analytical compared to other reviews. Then again, most reviewers don't do F2P MMORPG. Are you gonna do other F2P games in the future?

  • @HonestDav I am reviewing more, yes. I have done Atlantica Online and CoH already, as well as Sherwood Dungeon
