I still remember hearing this for the first time standing on that bridge leaving Cornelia in FFI and being blown away. Uematsu is simply a genius and a prodigious talent, but this short and simple anthem is easily his most iconic composition.
In fact, this "mode" (I don't know how to say it) have appeared since the first Final Fantasy game. If you don't believe me, find a channel with FFI Ost and listen to it.

ff13 is soooooooooooo different when u go and compare it to classics like 1,4,5 and 6, they need to give 15 the same spirit as the old final fantasies had, if they make a 15, which i hope they will
when i first heard this music was in the 1st FF, ever since then i always waited to hear it in ever FF made since then, its amazing the kinda of rush i get when i hear it, puts me in a different state of mind
this song is pretty much to me a major reminder to the whole finaly fantasy series and its just so great that they would never change this song as thier main theme even though all the games are different this song brings them all together :D
Graduation reminder? This? This gives thought about something far more than graduation... I can't even put into words what Final Fantasy theme reminds me of, it's that much a great piece.
And I agree on Dancing Mad, but shouldn't you hear it instead of seeing it?
The esper summon was pretty basic, it's like replacing the "magic" menu into "summon". All systems that come after that was unique. Summons being a sub-menu of one game's system. Like "Summon Materia", then summoning through Junction, then summoning becomes a character exclusive skill from Eidolons to Aeons.
CT's a different story. But still, I was a lot more worried about getting the Triple Techs (Dark Eternal FTW!), final weapons, and maximizing the game than what the characters feel.
FFVII being overrated? that's too much of a half assed comment. It ushered the series into newer, graphical dimensions. presented storytelling in video games as something that does not have to be too kiddy. And the game evoked emotions totally unheard of, or even possible, in video games back then. It featured characters as more than just pixels, but as real "characters" a player totally gets fixated to. Just like when one reads a comic book or watches a movie.
OK, FFVII is a fun game, but it's totally overrated. First off, the storyline in VI was, for the most part, a much more mature storyline than VII's, dealing with suicide, teen pregnancy and betrayal (VII one-ups VI by introducing the "Gwen Stacy" of the series, you know what I'm talking about). Also, the gameplay was watered down from the previous games. Finally, Locke, Terra and Celes are way more substantial than Cloud. I'm not hating. I love VII, but I'll be the first admit it's overrated.
Rofl, it had one of the best gameplay but saying ushered in new emotions in video games? Try FF VI or FF IV or Chrono Trigger. Face it, it is overrated. It got most of it gamelay from ff6 as well, the materia system is sort of like the esper system if you look at it. And Seph's last form is alot like Kefka's. There was tons of games before it that had greater and more mature storylines at the time than FFVII, just that was the one that had the most attention, thus it was a sucess.
nope, pixels that represent a character's head that just bows down don't invoke any emotion at all. If it weren't for the dialogue, I would've thought that the character saw an ant in the ground instead of conveying the thought of sadness.
That is such a typical thing for people who are spoiled by today's graphics to say. Back before games could pass as by merely adding more pixel shaders, games like Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, and Chrono Trigger were evoking more emotion than any of the last 6 FF's.
Also, I loved FF7 and what it did for the franchise, but compared to Cecil, Cloud is second rate in terms of attachment and character development. Aerith's death was the only thing that came close to FF VI's many moments like that.
Sephiroth is actually probably one of the best FF villains simply because he had a good motive for destroying the world and because he actually tried. Kefka just kinda destroyed a few towns, even though he had virtually infinite power...
Anyway, this piece is about EVERY FF, and what a piece it is.
Played the game? I owned it. Tore the world and jumbled it is a mere kid in a sandbox. Now, going all loony thanks to a revelation in one's existence and then deciding to call down a meteor. Now that's upping the ante. Wait, if I remember correctly the events at the floating continent, did Kefka actually had a direct involvement in the sundering of the world?
I thought 7 was brilliant, but 7 isn't the only one. At worldwide perception, I think 7 came on top because it was the 1st 3D FF and it being a playstation game, it was their first FF experience. NES/SNES FF1-6 were only well known among the enthusiasts. FF7 was the first one that broke into mass market. So in terms of the head count, FF7 is most likely to be the one which made an impression on many people. In that respect, it's plausible that it's overrated. It's still a great game though.
Also, the marketing for VII was phenomenal. Remember the commercials that only showed the FMVs and pretended like those were the real graphics? Overall I love VII, but for me, it's on the lower tier. That's OK though, they went on a 10 game streak without any stinkers, which is pretty impressive for a videogame series.
i agree. i'm not saying that 7 is the best rpg ever made, but it is an excellent game and was revolutionary for its time.
in fact pretty much all of the final fantasy games are terrific games, so instead about arguing about which one is best we should just be happy that the series continues to be producing quality game after quality game.
I wasn't arguing which 1 is the best. My gripe has more to do with the fact that some people don't see the fact that most installments of earlier FF were "revolutionary for its time" (to use your own phrase) and credit FF7 so much blindly. I think a lot of people share this sentiment and in doing so, end up expressing that FF7 is 'overrated'. Really, we all appreciate FF7 like everybody else. Only that the others don't appreciate other FF as much as FF7. Therein lies the problem.
I second that! I -love- FF7. I adore FF7. I re-play it a lot. But I do that with F6 and FF9 as well, because to me those three are the most awesome FF games. Not just FF7.
yeah.. i agree, it's a lil bit difrent with tour d japon, in the sound quality.. the arrangement is the sama, i believe they use the same arrangement..

you can go to almost any person who plays video games and when you bring up final fantasy then 7 will most likely be the first one to come to their minds
ff7 is a good ff, but i just dont like it cause there are "fans" out there that just like it cos sephiroth is the bad guy, personally ff6 is better mainly cause kefka is just a plain bad guy, rather than something happened making him all emo etc...
I feel people definitely overrate it, but not by that much. It is an awesome game, but some people put it so much higher than many of the others in the series.
Well I certainly hope you're right, hahahah. Hopefully future generations won't be completely dependent on graphics for entertainment. Not MY kids, lol.
Nope. I COMPLETELY disagree. You should really check it out proprerly.
This song was used SEVERAL times in the course of the games. First used in either FF1 or FF2, then followed by its usage as a sung song in another subsequent FF. Then used in FF12.
Don't know if you played FFV or FFIX but it was used in this games. FFV OST Disk two track 20 and FFIX OST Disk four track 22 and it was even used in FFI and II like Lv2lv2 said before.
It was used in every single final fantasy game during the final credits. 7 and 8 had it during the credits, 9 had it in the very beginning and during the credits, 10 had it during the credits and 12 had it throughout the entire game. i have no idea about 11 or the FF pre-playstation cause i never owned an nes or a gameboy. all i know is that its the common theme in all FF games except X-2 cause Uematsu didnt make the music for it. X-2 was a disgrace to the Final Fantasy name and was not needed.
i don't think that FF X-2 was a disgrace for FF saga. It's just not good as the other chapters. however it's evident that FF X-2 missed Nobuo, He's the best musician ever!!!
I agree with you. I thik the problem is that everbody compares it with FFX and compared with FFX it's crap :D but I disagree with you about the music. In my opinion there are a few awesome tracks on the FFX-2 OST like Yuna's Ballad, Akagi Party, Demise, Abyss of the Farplane, Ending ~Until the Day We Meet Again~, Epilogue ~Reunion~,... ok that's enough xD
I mean that I prefer nobuo's arrangement, but I like some FF X-2 songs too ("prelude", 1000 words", there are others but I don't remember their titles XD)
It could have been MUCH worse. Remember Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest? For the Super NES? Hehehe. Not dark enough for me to enjoy really. I myself love FF1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,X,7:Crisis Core.
I understand. It was played the most up-front in XII. But I think of the first game, when the screen saying that the heroes were about to start on a quest... blah blah blah.
damn im only a kid so i guess i cant understand how u old people feel about it but ff still is a bad ass game and has the most bad ass music i have ever heard nobou rocks XD
hihi is ja cool

ff7 is a good ff, but i just dont like it cause there are "fans" out there that just like it cos sephiroth is the bad guy, personally ff6 is better mainly cause kefka is just a plain bad guy, rather than something happened making him all emo etc...
wa22up0 3 years ago 4
I feel people definitely overrate it, but not by that much. It is an awesome game, but some people put it so much higher than many of the others in the series.

ghosty4ever 3 years ago

OH WOW! So many memories! I used to play this game all the time with my big bro when I was 6. I play it today!
nspinicelli 3 years ago 5
Omg! me too!
I havent watched my older cousin play since I was 3 or 4.... I loved it, she was my chocobo!lol
I miss back when.
just recintly my littler cousin started playing, and it brought back memories now I want to start playing again.
Final fantasy, is like a video game legend,
its being pasted down, and I dont think it will stop for quite a while. :)

Well I certainly hope you're right, hahahah. Hopefully future generations won't be completely dependent on graphics for entertainment. Not MY kids, lol.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
ok u guys are stupid. this is only on final fantasy XII. AND ITS THE MAIN THEME FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! please; beat all of them then comment
shikamarulez 3 years ago
Nope. I COMPLETELY disagree. You should really check it out proprerly.
This song was used SEVERAL times in the course of the games. First used in either FF1 or FF2, then followed by its usage as a sung song in another subsequent FF. Then used in FF12.
Lv2lv2 3 years ago
well, im sorry if im wrong, but i dont remember it in any of those but XII
shikamarulez 3 years ago
Don't know if you played FFV or FFIX but it was used in this games. FFV OST Disk two track 20 and FFIX OST Disk four track 22 and it was even used in FFI and II like Lv2lv2 said before.
MissTaGoo 3 years ago
It was used in every single final fantasy game during the final credits. 7 and 8 had it during the credits, 9 had it in the very beginning and during the credits, 10 had it during the credits and 12 had it throughout the entire game. i have no idea about 11 or the FF pre-playstation cause i never owned an nes or a gameboy. all i know is that its the common theme in all FF games except X-2 cause Uematsu didnt make the music for it. X-2 was a disgrace to the Final Fantasy name and was not needed.
moomba445 3 years ago 3
i don't think that FF X-2 was a disgrace for FF saga. It's just not good as the other chapters. however it's evident that FF X-2 missed Nobuo, He's the best musician ever!!!
alessinathefencer89 3 years ago
I agree with you. I thik the problem is that everbody compares it with FFX and compared with FFX it's crap :D but I disagree with you about the music. In my opinion there are a few awesome tracks on the FFX-2 OST like Yuna's Ballad, Akagi Party, Demise, Abyss of the Farplane, Ending ~Until the Day We Meet Again~, Epilogue ~Reunion~,... ok that's enough xD
MissTaGoo 3 years ago
I mean that I prefer nobuo's arrangement, but I like some FF X-2 songs too ("prelude", 1000 words", there are others but I don't remember their titles XD)
alessinathefencer89 3 years ago
haha okay i agree with that. nobuo is better in many ways xD
MissTaGoo 3 years ago
It could have been MUCH worse. Remember Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest? For the Super NES? Hehehe. Not dark enough for me to enjoy really. I myself love FF1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,X,7:Crisis Core.
Did not enjoy Dirge of Cerberus though
mooglebait 3 years ago
I understand. It was played the most up-front in XII. But I think of the first game, when the screen saying that the heroes were about to start on a quest... blah blah blah.
bjd020695 3 years ago
Its in most if not all FF games usually near the end of the credits
mightytash88 3 years ago
Well get to work on playing all the FF's then.
deadpisser88 3 years ago
lv2lv2 is right. see ff IX end, after final scenes, there is this song.
c4b3 3 years ago 2
no this song was used for many FF
alessinathefencer89 3 years ago
yes, but this particular version is from the ending credits of FF8

You're right! Final Fantasy VIII was the first game to feature an orchestrated version of 'Final Fantasy Main Theme'

I'm from Polish and I love Final Fantasy. This song is wonderful. Respect for Nobuo Uematsu.

Wasn't this originally known as the Crystal theme? or something similar
fffreak9999 3 years ago 2
Yeah. All I know is that it appears in FFV when trying to save the cristals
DarkRaimundo 3 years ago
It appears in a lot (But not all) Final Fantasy's. Or maybe all, I'm not entirely sure.
4chan4evar 3 years ago
