It is outrageous how a country with less than 300 years of history has the balls to use psychological warfare to basically hypnotize their people to build hatred against an enemy. An enemy that has thousands of years of history and contributions to the world, without these contributions, where would America be. Iran is a great country and 300 just tricks our uneducated people to make harsh judgements that are absolutely impractical. If I had a child, I would never let them see such movie.

@davexombos This depends on which aspect you're judging. if you're watching the movie from herodotus' point of view, it still has many inacuracies such as the number of troops of each faction, time of death of Leonidas, the goal of the persians, reactions of xerxes, reactions of leonidas, the location, the type of warfare, etc.
From an actual historical point of view (= Herodotus vs common sense and logic), basically everything except the happening of the battle was wrong.
besides, it's not as much about lies and inacuracies that I'm bitching about. I'm against this movie because it demonizes an existing culture, because it uses history for modenr war propaganda against Iran, because it is a classic example of how hollywood tries to make white people look superior to colored people, because it tries to show superiority from the West towards the East, because it makes Persians look like the representatives of Islam, etc.

In this interview, when he was asked what to think of the Persians' opinions about this movie, do you know what he said? "Those people caused 9/11 with planes that could never have been a product of their culture". So what is this? He could have easily said that he did not mean to insult Persians. But he didn't. Instead he ranted about how Persians suddenly caused 9/11 and how they can't build planes.

The movie 300 was taken as true story b/c of how it was written in history. The battle of Thermopoly (spelling??) documentary was better than the movie. Who knows? yes it is a movie but 90 percent accurate as far as historical facts, persians tried to invade Europe and they lost 500,000 men in the process. The battles at Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis and Platea were all decisive and showed them Barbarians that Europe would not capitulate. @davexombos This depends on which aspect you're judging. if you're watching the movie from herodotus' point of view, it still has many inacuracies such as the number of troops of each faction, time of death of Leonidas, the goal of the persians, reactions of xerxes, reactions of leonidas, the location, the type of warfare, etc.
From an actual historical point of view (= Herodotus vs common sense and logic), basically everything except the happening of the battle was wrong.

Doesn't change the fact that it was like that back then. The German Empire did horrible things during WWI, the U.S. has some pretty bad stuff with regards to Indians and Slavery... the list could go on, but a movie highlighting that shouldn't be insulting to those people now!

In this interview, when he was asked what to think of the Persians' opinions about this movie, do you know what he said? "Those people caused 9/11 with planes that could never have been a product of their culture". So what is this? He could have easily said that he did not mean to insult Persians. But he didn't. Instead he ranted about how Persians suddenly caused 9/11 and how they can't build planes.

DNA never disappears, it can only be altered. persians nowadays may have small percentages of mongolian, turkic, hellenic or semitic genes, but that is still nothing compared to the larger part of their genes that are still basically the same as their ancestors'. the thing about Iranian history is that only few invaders ever were smart enough to allow interracial marriage. Arabs for example, felt too superior for that.

What many people ignored, and maybe including the creators of 300, is that today Iranians are actually related to thoese persians 2400 years ago, modern iranians are descendants of the Persians that the greek fought. Persia just like China and Japan are a culture and people that has been continously livng their land for millenia. Of course the heritage of those times is viewed with great pride by the Iranians just as any other culture respects its great past.

The movie 300 was taken as true story b/c of how it was written in history. The battle of Thermopoly (spelling??) documentary was better than the movie. Who knows? I didn't need the movie 300 to disrespect Iran, they do just fine on their own. The criticisms of the film are ludicrous. It's a comic book adaptation of the story. Get over it.

Fact Xerxes and his fathers that ruled before him were good leaders in particular Xerxes great grand father Cyrus, when the Persian empire conquered a country they were often seen as liberators and Cyrus would not enforce Persian will or new religions on the conquered people he gave people freedom of choice so did Darius as did Xerxes, you want to start learning history from books and not from hollywood action movies.

yes it is a movie but 90 percent accurate as far as historical facts, persians tried to invade Europe and they lost 500,000 men in the process. The battles at Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis and Platea were all decisive and showed them Barbarians that Europe would not capitulate.
