@Pendemic Italians/Japanese put them on the steering column, BMW/Porsche seem to put them on the steering wheel. The advantage of fixed mount is that you always know where they are, & if they are long enough you can almost always reach them. Paddles attached to the wheel can get "lost" in certain situations if you don't keep your hands in the same place on the steering wheel all the time. My PS3 wheel has them on the wheel, but it's a very small wheel compared to a real car.

give me head turning true king of the street right now the v12 lambo aventador! dont get me wrong this 458 is not to be fucked with amazing machine&would luv2hav1..but if had a choice that aventador in white is a fkn beast!
Only 10% of Ferrari's street cars that are sold are driven like this, most are NOT, the usually driven at highways speeds, slower than I drive my Chevy Cavalier because they are worried about wearing down the tires, clutch, and god forbid...getting a little dirt on it.
Most people who can afford cars like this are 50+ age group who are retiring upper management professionals, CEOS, etc...many of who can't drive worth a shit but when it comes to picking up some 20+ year old pussy its great.
@PIlotrcm You're right. I've just spend almost £400 having my F430 wax coated and fitting plastic film round the arches to protect from stone chips and I still don't like taking it out for the fear of damage. And my clutch is utterly fucked as well.
@PIlotrcm Such is the problem with an amazing car like this. Ferrari should really find a way to make their cars more affordable. I know it sounds silly, but come on, this thing is $265,000 in the U.S., and that's like 7x the average person's salary. NOBODY can afford a car like this. It's such a shame. If I had a car like this, every. single. weekend. I would have it out on the track to let all those 562 horses run free, as they were made to.
@PIlotrcm a lot of them dont understand that a Ferrari can take all the abuse, it was built to do exactly that, any owner will tell you that if left in the garage w/o driving for a week or so, Ferraris will give problems, i personally know(uncle has had 4 Ferraris and just ordered the 458 spyder)yes its a shame but sitting around and complaining about it isnt gona get shit done whoever wants to can reach the stars, you'd be surprised how many millionares started with nothing...
3:01 - thats to the very point of driving mastership. There are 0,5 or 1 seconds earlier reactions that matter. More revs, lower gear and setting the contra BEFORE flooring. Chris Harris is superb driver but he could have driven it edgier. See again around 3:00-3:02, he could have floored more and earlier with the contra done essentialy eye-blink prior to them
so we can all agree a novice driver in the 458 with all aids on would perform like a professional driver without even trying if all brake and clipping points r touched at optimal speed
@AntDX316 "if all brake and clipping points r touched at optimal speed"
...hich is what makes someone a professional driver. A novice cannot touch all of the apexes and braking points at the best speed without being f-ing good.
...And yet EVO magazine for the 1000th time has voted a boring, nasty old Porsche GT3 RS as the EVO car of the year... go figure. I have driven the Porsche and while it is quick it is no way as exciting or involving as the Ferrari. It is also pretty much the same GT3 as we've seen for the last 10 years.
So, EVO guys, please be honest - the 458 wins hands down as EVO car of 2010. The boring GT3 RS can't hold a candle to the Ferrari.
@mattyoz0 Hey kiddo, go get a driving licence before you talk to me. As a freelance journalist I have driven virtually every supercar you can have a wet dream about. I am not saying that the Porsche GT3 RS is boring per se. I am saying that it is just the same old, rehashed, boiled-over Porsche GT3 that we get year after year since 1999. Sure, there are incremental improvements and it is an impressive track car, but better or more exciting than a 458 Italia? Sorry, no way.
@71ala This kiddo is the same age as you Where i come from the 458 is twice the price of a gt3rs, is a 458 twice the car? get the fuck out of here. Porsche GT3 RS drivers car, 458 posers car.
@71ala Go look at the nurburgring lap times to see if the GT3rs can't hold a candle to the 458,GT3 way down on power and uses a manual and still pretty much gets the same time as the 458. Shit car eh? wanker
@idontcare80 haha, that's pretty funny. hahaha. yea right. sure they both make great engines, but if hondas sounded like ferraris, there'd probably be more S2000s in this world. and more ferrari owners would be committing suicide...haha j/k
@therotaryrocket I don't think the people who buy Ferraris buy them because of how they sound, they buy them because of how they perform. Anyway, double an S2000 engine and you have a 480 hp 4.4 liter V8, compared to the engine performance of the 360 of the same era that's not bad at all.
@MultiTopgearfan No, it's the sound. They are all pretty much all the same if they have identical G's on the x, y, and z axis. The ones who have drive Bugatti say it's on a better level.
@NearTheLimits You'd think so, but it's very hard to keep track of where the button is located. I've tried both, and the stationary ones are vastly superior! :)
I've gotta say, the center console air vent/ AC control setup looks really gimmicky, and the interior design overall isn't of ferrari's usual style; it's a bit more futuristic. That being said, I can't wait to drive this car in GT5.
2:17 mclaren were smart enough to to attach their paddles to the steering wheel like an F1 car.. why havent ferrari sussed this idea? they've but everything else on the wheel instead lol
@shravanrulez Have you driven it? Frankly I think you're being ignorant if you haven't. The experience that transmission can offer is truly incredible.
so Ferrari formula 1 technology is immature and gay?
Because the way I see it, Ferrari doesn't care about you and how bad you want a clutch pedal, they care about winning championships and building extremely fast cars, even if that means using a paddle shift system to shave off tenths of a second. Ferrari is more about racing than driving, and their history proves it.
The Enzo was never offered with a gated shifter, an early sign that Ferrari is running with its tech.
I'm a recent convert to automated-manual. I'd always have to own at least one stick-shift (at least reasonably) sporting car, but if I had the scratch to own a Ferrari, yeah for sure the paddle shift would be great, allowing me to concentrate on lap times.
Call me old fashion, but these paddle shift transmissions just seem lame. I mean whats the point of a sports car that is somewhat of an automatic drive? If I'm dropping a half a million dollars on a Ferrari, I want a center stick shift console with a clutch. Anybody agree with me?
Man, that looks boring.. I hate to say this. Although I love Ferrari, I think those laps would be so much more fun while driving a porsche gt3rs. Mainly because I think ferrari went soft not offering a manual option.
@vithaj92 Manual? I thought these sequential gearboxes change gears faster than any human can change gears on manual. Isn't that why F1 cars use sequential? I may be wrong but don't ferrari's gears change in 50 milliseconds?
@ktkl68 You're absolotely right about that, those f1 trannys are indeed faster than any human could shift a manual. But shifting a manual, being directly connected to the gearbox, is for me 50% of the driving experience, and that is why I think you would have more fun in a manual car, for example a noble m600 or a porsche gt3rs
@vithaj92 I obviously don't know because I don't have that sort of money, but if I did I would be seriously put off by that F1 gearbox, no matter how fast it is. You're totally right about that driving experience, imagine that engine with a manual 'box doing all the heel and toeing yourself, it'd be just incredible. Gutted that Ferrari won't offer them with the manual box, maybe in 20 years or so I could afford one!
@ktkl68 yes roughly. Depends which one and they get faster every year. I believe the Enzo shifts in 60 msec and that was in 2002 that came out I think? their F1 car in 2007 shifted in 40 msec so I bet their road cars are probably shifting in 50msec or close to it. the Veyron also shifts rediculously fast. the cool thing is humans can't hear the difference between sounds that are 30msec apart no matter what the sounds are, and Ferrari is almost there with gear shifts
@thnk4urself Actually, it was the Scuderia that did 60msec (the Superfast2 gearbox). The Enzo was actually more like 150.....as you correctly pointed out, in the year 2002/3 things were quite as far along the development trail. The 599GTB was the first car to hit 100msec with Superfast1. Of course, these times were all with single-clutch systems. I've no idea what the times for the dual-clutch are, but with the next gear already selected, it must be amazingly fast.
@mchlmichaell oh yea it was the scuderia I was thinking of. I know that the dual clutch on the Veyron shifts in 200msec but I think because of their F1 team Ferrari's maybe a lil faster but I'm assuming. I think it's pretty cool that these cars can do that. Alot of people complain about paddle shifters but I never grew attached to traditional gear shifters so I like the paddles. I'm interested to see the 458 on the Top Gear track for sure
no way bambino, youtube is free, I came here and talked about what I want to talk. I just said that MP4-12C, the direct rival of this ferrari, is better IMO.
@pauloherrera ..lol you came here, in an exclusive video of just one car.. to talk about shit like mclaren mp4 lol!!!! you fuckin' suck man !!! your ass invaded your brain man omfg
I am with you man! I'm all up for manual gearboxes...
Those paddles make it look a bit difficult to change gears if you are sliding (drifting) the car and you need to change gear while turning the steering wheel...
@immase He can barely find the up shifter when he's coming out of that corner, I don't really want my hands all over the steering wheel at that speed! At least you can always find the gear stick!
So Chris on the 458, "it is all things to all people". I love this car.

You can see multiple times in this video where Chris has to put his hand down on the paddle while in a corner...

I would prefer the scuderia but the 458 is also awsome!

Man, that looks boring.. I hate to say this. Although I love Ferrari, I think those laps would be so much more fun while driving a porsche gt3rs. Mainly because I think ferrari went soft not offering a manual option.
vithaj92 1 year ago
@vithaj92 Manual? I thought these sequential gearboxes change gears faster than any human can change gears on manual. Isn't that why F1 cars use sequential? I may be wrong but don't ferrari's gears change in 50 milliseconds?
ktkl68 1 year ago
@ktkl68 You're absolotely right about that, those f1 trannys are indeed faster than any human could shift a manual. But shifting a manual, being directly connected to the gearbox, is for me 50% of the driving experience, and that is why I think you would have more fun in a manual car, for example a noble m600 or a porsche gt3rs
vithaj92 1 year ago
@vithaj92 I obviously don't know because I don't have that sort of money, but if I did I would be seriously put off by that F1 gearbox, no matter how fast it is. You're totally right about that driving experience, imagine that engine with a manual 'box doing all the heel and toeing yourself, it'd be just incredible. Gutted that Ferrari won't offer them with the manual box, maybe in 20 years or so I could afford one!
lucrativeelfmongrel 1 year ago
@vithaj92 Yeah I agree with you on that one. Driving manual is so fun. Heel toe downshifts entering into highway ramp and all haha thats fun!!!
ktkl68 1 year ago
@ktkl68 yes roughly. Depends which one and they get faster every year. I believe the Enzo shifts in 60 msec and that was in 2002 that came out I think? their F1 car in 2007 shifted in 40 msec so I bet their road cars are probably shifting in 50msec or close to it. the Veyron also shifts rediculously fast. the cool thing is humans can't hear the difference between sounds that are 30msec apart no matter what the sounds are, and Ferrari is almost there with gear shifts
thnk4urself 1 year ago
@thnk4urself Actually, it was the Scuderia that did 60msec (the Superfast2 gearbox). The Enzo was actually more like 150.....as you correctly pointed out, in the year 2002/3 things were quite as far along the development trail. The 599GTB was the first car to hit 100msec with Superfast1. Of course, these times were all with single-clutch systems. I've no idea what the times for the dual-clutch are, but with the next gear already selected, it must be amazingly fast.
mchlmichaell 1 year ago
@mchlmichaell oh yea it was the scuderia I was thinking of. I know that the dual clutch on the Veyron shifts in 200msec but I think because of their F1 team Ferrari's maybe a lil faster but I'm assuming. I think it's pretty cool that these cars can do that. Alot of people complain about paddle shifters but I never grew attached to traditional gear shifters so I like the paddles. I'm interested to see the 458 on the Top Gear track for sure

I wish they offered it with a manual gearbox (I have a feeling that's going to be an unpopular comment)
lucrativeelfmongrel 1 year ago 3
@lucrativeelfmongrel
I am with you man! I'm all up for manual gearboxes...
Those paddles make it look a bit difficult to change gears if you are sliding (drifting) the car and you need to change gear while turning the steering wheel...
That is my opinion. Don't take it personal, guys!
I prefer the gear stick than the paddles...
immase 1 year ago
@immase He can barely find the up shifter when he's coming out of that corner, I don't really want my hands all over the steering wheel at that speed! At least you can always find the gear stick!
lucrativeelfmongrel 1 year ago
@immase That may be the case, but SMGs are always going to be faster and I like to be the faster one. XD
