I typical find american comedians more like this, maybe there are better comedians but usually they aren't that good. The harshness of the joke wasn't the problem it's the fact he kept using it and using it. An example of a comedian who uses this well is Frankie Boyle who doesn't stay on a joke anymore than a minute.
