  • its just like trading in a car... its dumb. sell it online or something.

JUST like a pawn shop if you dont sell it directly to the buyer you are paying the middle man to sell it for you

  • oh my god what a waist of time oh wait im at work i got paid for watching this shit thanks

  • I didn't think the video was too long...you were telling us the back story and what happened in each instance, nothing wrong with that. I couldn't agree more about trading in being the WORST idea ever. I have bought many guns privately, and while they were not full price...the other guy(s) didn't do too badly and neither did I. That's the way to go if you don't need the money right awayl. Also, the first time that punk dropped my gun or crossed me with it I would have left.

  • Ay Pete you get this? DON'T TRADE YOUR GUNS PETE?! lol

  • Yeah my friend went in with some very nice Gun shops and with some good quality guns and you are right!!! DONT selll your stuff to those Gun shops your better off selling it to someone you know and get a better sell price on and just use them for Liscense and DOJ paperwork...

  • How true, Do not sell a gun on consignment either. Did it, will never do it again. Like dealing with a pawnbroker, the worst of them all.

  • im never getting that 5 min back

  • @lane1man Apologize for that. The vid is being deleted. It got linked to a forum and now there are a lot of thugs PM'ing me threats.

  • Agreeeeeeeed. Went to Turner's and wanted to see my trade in price for my Smith and Wesson model 10, they would only pay me $100 for it....I was easily able to sell it for $400 online. Nuts to trading in guns.

  • So you've figured out that guns depreciate in value and that gun shops make money by offering you less than they will resell your trade-in for? Dude, you're a frickin' scientist!

  • dude there not going to give you retail for it they need to make money

  • I regret every gun I sold

  • You could have made this video in less than 2 minutes. Stop wasting people's time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @camo501 the vid has been marked for deletion. I apologize for the disruption.

  • Get a fucking podcast!!

  • Get over it you stupid ass...stop making videos please, waste of time!!

  • 50% is S.O.P. live with it. Most Gun stores will only give you half of what it's worth.

  • @ChipMarine That is because on a new gun there is only a 10-20$ profit margin. On a used gun you can make all your money for the day on. So yes, dealers are not going to give you for a used gun what you could get for it selling it for yourself. Just like with a car or truck.

  • I was just talking about this with a friend. ALWAYS SELL PERSON TO PERSON. Or you will get ripped off. I bought a 400dollar pistol, and just to see, I went to a couple gun stores, they only wanted to give me 180,, WHAT??? These shops will rape you. Thats how they make their money, off of those who dont know.

  • Duh - of course they aren't going to give you retail value. Duh. You want retail value? Sell it yourself. You want trade value? Ya know - cash in hand - trade it in. Honestly. Do you think a dealer would give you retail value? They take it in, trace it, clean it, then put it out for sale. Might sell it in a day, might take a year. And dude, they have to make a profit doing it. Want retail? Sell it yourself.

  • i cant wait for the guy at the counter to get m-1 thumb from my m-1

  • Awesome, we got the same watches. :D

  • and the best way to do it is sell it online for bids or to someone you know its better

  • what do we have fucking gangster little felons running fucking gunshops now how the hell does that work most gunshops atleast where im at you have to be knowledged to handle them and fo that kinda crap id be calling code enforcment or what ever the fuck you would call cause i wouldnt want some punk ass handlin my shit like that id get them sued quick

  • emp in florida 599$

  • Dude, what do you expect? They are in the business of making money. Every moron and his brother knows you have to sell privately to get the most money for your guns.

  • I agree, I went to a gun store & they were gonna take me to the cleaners, I think they're worse than car dealers. I if want to get a new gun, I sell what I have through gunbroker, or locally from Texasguntrader, I've had great success in selling myself & few times sold for what I paid for it or a 10-15 percent less than what I paid. There is a huge market for used weapons on the internet, just as long as you follow the laws when transferring.

  • yeah, they are is business to make money....I like to do this only to avoid dealing with a 3rd party....I see your point

  • sigs & HK hold there value buy better quality firearms

  • @puresureshot any gun you pay for that is over a $1000 is technically good quality. so you can't say that these 2 1911's are bad quality. especially the colt

  • @goatkiller68 I was compairing sig and hk to glock ruger polymer frame firearms.

  • @puresureshot So.... Your saying a Sig or HK holds it's value more so than a Colt or Springfield? I've been collecting firearms for 25 years every Colt I own is worth way more now USED than when it was purchased new. That will never happen with a Sig or HK at least not in my lifetime.

  • @dave010110 You cant compare a colt to and hk or sig you missed my point I agree with you.

  • I know a few FFLs, they all advise against trading in your firearms. They advise Consignment. You already said that in the video though.

  • I tried to trade a Springfield Armory 40 subcompact. I had the box, high cap magazine. It was custom chromed. I mean everything done to it. Night sights etc. Local guns stores wanted to give me 250.00 for it. I sold in on gun trader for 450.00. I hear what you are saying Brother. I understand gun shops have to make money but they also want a lot of money for used guns too. Good video.

  • bottom line they have to make a profit.....it's business...take your guns to an auction....it's a gamble yes..but thats life.....

  • The last AR I built I wanted to see how much gander would buy it for I spend 1138.25 on the parts and built it myself. Took it to Gander they offered me 280$. They had used stock rock river rifles going for 1,000... I damn near punched that old man in the mouth.

  • i would never sell any of my guns, i'd just save up to buy a new one, you cant have too many guns! just add to your collection and be happy you have a diverse collection to choose from, guna are like children, how could you choose one over the other or get rid of one, just my opinion, yours may differ.

  • I was at a local range a few months ago and among the weapons I brought was my 1982 vintage Colt Python .357 mag 6-inch. Note that I bought this revolver new for $385, and I know what they're worth. A couple guys who worked there knew I had it an REALLY wanted to look at it. So they were drooling and all, and just for the heck of it, I acted dumb and asked wht they go for these days. Guy says about $1000. Really? I can get $1500 for mine all day. So yeah, DON'T TRADE YOUR GUNS!

  • Last person who pointed a gun (unloaded) at me after I told them the first time not to got knocked upside the head. When it comes to guns I don't tolerate stupidity.

It's definitely not worth trading in a gun. Back in college I traded in a shotgun, they gave me $200 or so. I was hard up for cash so I accepted it and went on my way. Two days later I saw that gun on their rack with a $500 tag on it. Sell it yourself and get your money's worth.

  • @PassivelyActive i totally understand the situation you were in. i took my ar15 with all kinds of shit put on it to a gunshop, totally over $2K, and got fucking $700 for it. Saw my stuff the next week for sale, parted, but totalling to $1500.

  • @PassivelyActive Hey when the bills come in the door & you can see the back of the fridge. It's hard to be choosy.

  • You always get boned on trades no matter what it is. Great advice thanks.

  • It's called business, they can't buy it from you for what they can sell it for. Duh

  • I hate to sound disagreeable but...gun shops are not there to be your friend they are there to make money. If they give you what they are worth then they wont make any turnaround profit when they sell it. and you wont stay in business very long that way. Also they dont typically sell used guns at what they are worth, since they are used guns. i see no problem in trading or selling if you r in a bind just do a lil, especially if your not too fond of em anymore. Just my 2 pennies worth...

  • @skwigz21 had i went to my regular shop, i would've gotten 3/4 of my purchase price because of repeat business. but instead, went to a shop i frequented less due to circumstances and got lowballed. barely half of what i paid for it, because they had to "flip" it. assholes.

  • I think this guy needs to be reasonable. Like a car, guns depreciate in value. What is missing is a blue book value to gauge how good or bad these offer are. You never going to get sticker price you paid for it.

  • @WALTERBROADDUS No I hear ya. I think I kinda just went overboard with this vid and admit not being totally rational. I actually just traded in a truck for a new truck and knew going into it I would be low balled. In the end they gave me more than a fair trade value but tried to jack up the new truck price ;) but after 1hr of negotiations I got them to keep the prices to what we agreed upon and made a fair deal.

  • @WALTERBROADDUS There is a Blue Book for firearms. Blue book publications. They also make one for guitars, amps, pool cues, etc. This is only a reference item, referring to auction houses and online auctions can give you a good idea of value for private sales. Expect to see a trade in price around 60% of what the blue book says for rating. The blue book serves better as identifying exactly which model you are looking at because some firearms have dozens of model variations.

  • @Valadi14 I know about the Blue book. I was trying to enlighten the poster of the video.

  • @WALTERBROADDUS I think it kind of depends on the gun and the condition it is kept in. High quality guns actually appreciate in price, but overall, well built firearms hold their value very well over the long term. Colt Python originally sold for about $125, I would be hard pressed to find a like new one for less than $1800 today. The pythons that have been used hard go for nearly $1,000. The guns in the video are high quality.

  • @thewonderfrog Colt Revolvers are rare because they don't make DA revolvers any more. At rate things are going, I'm going need sell some guns if I don't find a job soon. Sadly, I have nothing worth as much as a Python.

  • @WALTERBROADDUS I disagree ive got alot of guns i can get more than i paid for, for example my colt pythons. Also something is only worth what someone else will pay for it.

  • @mntofdk66 Colt Pythons Are collectable. A Taurus 66, not so much. Will folks pay top dollar for a Ruger LCR in 20 years? Time & the market will tell. Peolple collect Ford Mustangs. I've only met a hand full of Ford Pinto collectors. Some guns are special, most are not.

  • @WALTERBROADDUS You can sell them privately for what the dealers would sell them for. I've worked in the business. The idea is to give a small amount and sell for a high amount and to really push it because selling guns new doesn't bring in anywhere near as much profit as buying used at a low rate and selling it for barely under the price of a new one. It benefits the shop, not the seller, and this I know from years of experience.

  • Fired or not, Once its in your possession its a USED gun. No different than a vehicle or anything else. Look at the price difference between a new and used of the same model gun. Well, then take 20-35% off that and there is your offer. $1000-$1100is about right. You can get EMP 9 for about $700. Subtract your 30%, $490. WWI are $1200-$1500 depending on the model new unfired. Its a novelty, it wont move quickly. Much like a Desert Eagle Gold. Id say $1100 is pretty fair.

  • @TSHR1439 agree...

  • @TSHR1439 What planet do you live on? A EMP for $700 Really? Tell me where I'll buy two!!! Mine cost $1285 out the door. I sold it USED for $1000. $490 LMAO! You must work at a pawn shop!

  • @TSHR1439

Tell that to the lunatics at gunbroker! Hahaha...those folks, for some reason, think their rifle is worth more than MSRP after they've shot a few hundred rounds through it. I browse there often and I'm like, "What the hell is the matter with these guys?"

  • Trading/Selling your gun to another shop is just like selling a car to a dealer, they are always going to offer you a lower price then they are worth so they can make the most selling it to someone else... Sorry.

  • Like trading a car . . . . the cheapest car you will own, is the one you are driving now. This works for other things, too.

  • A friend of mine who runs a successful store usually follows a 60% rule so that a $600 gun will trade for $360, and that is toward retail price. Of course they sometimes get excited about a gun and give a little more.

  • Ive worked as a pawnbroker for two gun stores over the past 5 years, and I agree and disagree with some of your points. There are certain gun shops looking to make almost a 50% profit on your gun, but the best are around 20-25%. Also, I sold a Springfield emp nib for 1125 recently and they sell for around 800-850 used so id pay you around 650-700 bucks max for your gun, but im sure you would be offended and would scoff at the figure for your godlike USED sa emp.

  • Also, most gun shops these days are NOT going to give you top dollar for used guns because the good ones want a fast turn around (buy it cheap, sell it cheap, and move on asap), we dont want a gun that is going to sit in the used case with hundreds of dollars invested for 6 months and we have to sell it near cost just to move the damn thing. Also, the emp is a VERY niche gun as it appeals to the "hard on for 1911" crowd, most people will buy a nice used kahr for half the price for the same job

  • one more quick note, ive had two emps returned because they do not reliably feed hollow points. This is actually a big problem for most 9mm and some 40 cal 1911s because of bullet length, and always have been known for not always being 100 percent. Same goes with some the kimber ultra carry series 1911s in smaller than .45 cal guns

  • Its a business buddy. Gun Stores are in the business of making money, friends or not, friendships does not pay the bills. I sell guns for a living, so I have an inside view of how the system works. I also complained about trades. This all changed once I began working at a Sporting good store and now managing one. These days, there is not a lot of money selling steel. Bottom line is, bills have to get paid, and thinking that you are going to get what you have in a certain firearm is just naive.

  • Some shops are more reasonable than others and sometimes you can get a fair trade but not always, they buy wholesale and sell retail.

  • When I traded my Smith and Wesson sigma 9mm in for a used Glock 19 at the gun store they just used a price appraisal book. I guess I got lucky.

  • I have a classified online page and I buy, sell, and trade. Your selection is limited, but at least no one as you by the balls. Those punkass teens that wouldn't know an AK from an AR piss me off too.

  • you do know the there are whole sale prices and relate prices.dealer get prices on firearms way lower than what we pay.

  • Thanks for the advice. I really screwed myself at a gunshow by trading a couple of perfect revolvers that had been sitting in a safe for 20 plus years. One was a Smith & Wesson .22 Magnum, 6" barrel, purchased new around 1976, and a Colt Trooper, polished chrome, 4" barrel .357 Magnum purchased new around 1975 or '76. Traded even for a pistol that cost a little over $600.00. The Colt is going for $900 plus on Gunbroker. Dang. Im too impulsive and just got caught up in the moment. Don't do it!!

  • the reason they do that it becuz they can buy a new 1 from the dealer for nearly the same price they giving it to u fro ....they still gotta make money ..it sucks but thats the bizz

  • Why'd you film the boxes? Open those things up.

  • How about trading it in for a tripod?!

  • Ha i went to cabela's to sell a Walther PP 32acp about a year ago. They offered me like $195 looking in the Blue book of gun values 31st edition (Same one i own) I said I couldn't go that low. Well as soon as I said that, both my girlfriend and I could see that the guy was literally angry and red in his face.. I understand they have a business to run, but.. Come on... So I posted it on Gunbroker and sold it for over $400 that same week..

  • P.S. I have an EMP also.Did you ever find a hollow point, that works well in yours?

  • You seem like one of "THOSE GUYS" that think they know everything and if ya don't know it,it's not worth knowing, or you just make it up as you go along.I'm really not trying to be a Jerk along w/ you.I'm trying to point /o this flaw you have of thinking that 1)You're better than everyone else and 2)You're smarter than everyone else.I'm really not knocking you.To be honest, you sound like a Cop, w/ a flashlight [THE ULTIMATE POWER] Lol, seriously, lighten up & try & deal w/ these "insecurities,"

  • Hmm, I got a really GREAT deal on an 1400 Winchester [$50 more than I paid for it.IDon't want an argument , but have you ever noticed that when you're quoting other's ,even when you're addressing us, you use this stupid, sounding, cartoon voice kinda like Yogi the bear.]Anyway, it makes you come off as a pompous Prick.Maybe if you were a little [A LOT] nicer to ppl and didn't have the "Know it all attitude", you'd get better deals. Jisten to yourself, you come off as a total Jerk!....

  • i just traded a Walther P22 in at Scheels, they gave me 250, i paid 278 for it at a gun show, put about 1500 rounds through it in a year.....not bad

  • I'm hearing nuthin but bad shit about CABELA'S and their attitude on guns here on youtube.

  • Ida punched that kid in the throat. I bought a .223 at cabelas about a year ago. One of the best firing rifles I've ever shot. It's a savage axis. Back to topic, you should have gotten at LEAST $3000. I'm very surprised that cabelas treated you that way, usually when dealing with guns, I'm in and out of there within 30 min. Also, they usually have a person with experience handling the weapons at the door. Like I said before, I would have punched that kid in the throat.

  • I'm with you brother. When I buy a gun its mine for life!

  • There crooks!!! Keep all ur guns i say!!

  • Graet video EXCELLENT INFORMATION thanks !!!!!!!!!!

  • fucking, brain dead kids .

  • you buy a 1000 dollar gun and they will give you 425 for it. then put it on there shelf for 950.

  • yeah I never trade...always sell privately and buy new. thanks for sharing

  • What most people don't consider is that a gun, like a car, loses its value as soon as you take it for a spin. First off when people buy used guns, they do so bc they can't afford the new one, and nobody can sell it for the price of a new one. Those guns may go for those prices new, and they may be listed officially as a trade in value of higher but it doesn't matter if you can't get that much from someone. I traded two of my guns and got a Glock out of the deal, and took a hit on the other.

  • Trading guns in is like trading anything in. They are gonna give you less than it's really worth, because they need to get a profit. It's like trading in a new car, you're better off just selling it privately.

  • lol I got one better for ya, Ran into a family emergency a few months ago and needed some quick cash, So I stopped at the local Pawn/Gun shop for a loan, Items I had to pawn EMP 40Like new=$1,349.00, Sig P238HD W/ Laser And holster Like New=$749.00, Ibenez Les Paul style Electric guitar Mint=$500.00,Alverez Acoustic Guitar Like new=$400.00, Cannon Professianal grade digital camera w/ telophoto lens Brand new never used=$2000.00 camera and $1000.00 Lens, Total Brand new value $6000.00 Offer $300

  • @Whytnoiz07 ugh, Pawn Shops are the worst man. I remember years ago someone I knew pawned his whole handgun collection because of some financial troubles and they just low balled him. I mean these guys at the Pawn Shops got people where they want them. Person needs $ so they take advantage of that. But $300 for all that????? Come on. That seems unreasonable.

  • @TheOl1911 Had a friend sell a mosin for $250 to a pawn shop. It was sooo funny, they had no idea what it was and thought it was some rare war gun lmao.

  • OF COURSE IT'S UNREASONABLE. Pawn shops are inherently unreasonable. They run a business, for profit mind you, and have to pay less than retail in order to make that profit. If you struggle with this concept, perhaps you should open a pawn shop and then give everyone retail for the things they bring to you - guess you'll have to do a lot of volume to see a profit buying at the same price you can sell at...

  • @Whytnoiz07 If you want a loan that's different. The interest is excessive. They are loaning money and not buying merchandise. The shop will generally want to loan you the amount of money you say you need (not actually what the items are worth) in anticipation that you will come back and claim your collateral.

  • @Whytnoiz07 im not even sure how to reply to your comment. LOLz to the fuckers at the pawnshop for preying on people in need. my advice is take items in at time and never to the same location. drive around and get different offers. i got lowballed by a gun shop once myself. rra ar15=$1200, aimpoint red dot=$500, accesories/upgrades=$500. Offer? $700. just because it wasn't ar15 season. went to the shop later, saw the ar, itself, for sale at $1150. FUCK YOU shooters shop of wisconsin!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sounds like my experience with Cabelas. They wasted about an hour of my time on a gun transfer. I finally gave up and left.

  • @freeze427 1hr to do a transfer!?!?!? what the!? Yeah my Cabela's has some weird guys working there. Another shop near me just has a bunch of arm chair sales commandos its hilarious. The amount of mis-info they give and the 0 customer service makes for a comical visit. One time at this shop they tried to field strip a Nighthawk Custom and they couldn't figure out how to put it back together...

  • @freeze427 Same thing happened to me at the shop where I did do the transfer for my 1911 Springfield. I have vid on it. They asked me if they could show me how to field strip it. I said ok, then they couldn't re-assemble it. HaHa

  • hahah good vid.., i hate cabellas., i dont wanna buy my guns from a big corporation, ill keep my purchases local.. but thx for the funny vid..shoulda smacked that guy haha

  • wow thier all idiots

  • Damn, I was just thinking about trading in a few pistols for a WC Tatical Supergrade. I appreciate your effort in gathering quotes. I heard of a gunsmith that could reproduce for $1500. Maybe that's the smarter route.

  • @marksman9939 Well its up to you. I know in the past I have done some STUPID trades because I wanted a Wilson xxxxx and a year later I would regret it. A friend of mine carries a Tac Supergrade on duty believe it or not. I was like "Aren't you afraid of it getting messed up or taken away??!!" He was like, "Hell no, I trust my life to this thing every single day..." I've done so much trading I finally realized how much $ I lost. Its embarrassing but hey..you only live once! Get that Wilson

  • I agree. But sometimes you see something and rationality goes out the window. You just HAVE TO HAVE IT! I am sure this has happened to a lot of us. We don't need it yet we just want it so badly and we trade away things we do not really want to and then loose tons of $. I almost traded in an Ed Brown SpForces and they were only willing to give me $1,200 trade value!!!!!! BS!

  • @thrasher123 that's typical trade value. I got quotes for my Wilson Classic from Cabela's and a lgs. $900 at Cabela's and $1200 at the lgs. That is nowhere near what I paid for the thing back in 2009. My CQB Elite Cabela's gave me a trade value of $1500 and the lgs gave me $1800 and again nowhere near what I paid last year for it. You are always better off selling it privately and remember...all good things come to those who wait!

  • I always try and put guns on consignment...or private sale....trade in values are brutal. Unless I really want something........

  • I agree, just keep your guns. they are never worth selling unless you are actually starving. don't trade up.

  • @hugo2x one of my friends is trying to get me to buy his 2mo old Kimber Super Carry Ultra. I haven't owned a Kimber since 2002 and vowed never to again (because of a C.Service issue back then). He is gonna trade it in for a commander size. The thing looks nice and all but he is having way too many FTFs and doesn't want to send it back to Kimber...I tried to warn him on those micro 1911 45s, now he's gonna loose a ton of $ trading it in because he has no patience, he needs a carry gun, heh...

  • RIGHT ON BROTHER!THANXZ 4 THE INFO.

  • Very good info! Very true. Been there done that!

  • I agree with you when just selling it online atleast you can sell it to the price you want it, and 1911 sells really quick, I suggest to some of our viewers to look at the blue book value for the gun and do some research. Big store would just give you half off what they can sell it for.Great video

  • Well they got to make some money. Unfortunately too many of them want to make too much. I'm liking my local gun shop even more after hearing about yours. I traded in a Desert Eagle got $600 for it (paid 750) got $450 for a Para G.I. Expert (paid a little over 500 bought it new). Got an AR-15 out of the deal. I was happy. When I came back in there sometime later, the DE was listed for $900, the Para $600! I originally tried listing the DE on a forum, didn't get much interest. Didn't want to wait.

  • @BHPfan26 that's really good. you made out. in that case go for it. I think it also depends on what you are going to trade for. The guy at Cabela's called me an hr ago asking if i wanted to come back in tonight to do the trade...said he could do $500 on the WWI Repro...interesting. I don't think I'd go back to Cabela's for any trading or buying (guns). I'll continue to support my local shop.
