  • 2 hints. SAVE the old fitting that ya cut off and took out with the 18mm deep socket. You will see later. Get a stubby adjustable wrench for the last part.

  • hardest part is to get the 18mm threaded part seated and screwed in that ultra tight spot down there.

  • @kimonui I agree it is tight.

  • @kimonui ok you sawed the tube, but did you saw it from underneath the car or on top. the problem is you don't say where your camera view is from. there's one part of the video that you point at and it show's the gear box and the section of tube you cut. look's like a lot of room from that view. where did you view that from?

  • how didja cut it?

  • @kimonui I cut it with a tool called a "mini hacksaw"

  • @richpin06a - sheyit I can't get in there with a mini anything! But tanx for da vid. very helpful! I am trying with an angled plumber's wench at the moment.

  • @richpin06a Yep i did that once on a honda line.

  • hello sir! Thanks for sharing this informative clip.... I m driving a Nissan Sentra(year 2005) and my car has been sitting in the workshop for 3 days! My original hose was leaking, so the mechanics has replaced a 'fabricate' power steering pressure hose but my steering is still stiff. Apparently, they have tried numerous 'diagnosis' but they still cant find the main problem. Can u please advise. Tyvm

  • @kenchua2001 If that is the case the steering box, pump, and struts need to be checked.

  • @richpin06a

Ty sir. Apparently my mechanic gave up and sent my car to his friend. They finally manage to fix it by replacing a reconditioned Power Steering rack, which cost much more than my initial simple replacement of a pressure hose. Lol

  • Thank u so much.stiil working on it.what u use to screwn new one in ?

  • @little4685 I used a open end 18mm wrench.

  • Also i forgot to ask what did u use to cut the hose?

  • @little4685 I used a mini hacksaw to cut the metal line.

  • Can u please tell me what type of wrech do i need to take the old one off and screw new one in.im wirking, on a 96 chv lumina.i tried flare nut wrench but have no room to fit it thru.please help asap.i need my car for work.thank u

  • @little4685 I used a 16mm wrench on the pump end and a 18mm deep socket on the steering gear end.

  • very informative, now more than I did before. I have a power steering hose leak recall on my '06 impala. Now I have an idea of what to expect. thanks

  • Pressure wash that engine.

  • One the video part where we could not see, on my car ('96 corsica, 3.1 v6) there are two identical 5/8" but fitted lines around the same area as well as a smaller line. I removed my driver wheel to view them. Is it the top of bottom line? It is so hard to get around inside to do anything

  • Thanks

  • This video is awesome, I think I can take care of my own pressure line now. My question is do you have any idea of how close/similar this may be to a 1998 Cavalier with a 2.2L? Getting the higher hose off doesn't look like it's going to be a problem, what seems to be a problem is the lower line, I can seem to see where everything connects together. I'll admit that I haven't put it up on ramps yet to take a look at it from below.

  • I have a 97 lumina this video help a lot cutting the hose was a good tip, good video.

  • wow! my 04 chevy monte carlo it's really hard to replace the power steering hose.... i changed it and still leak... i need ur help....

  • BTW, it is a 2000 Pontiac Montana with a 3400.

  • Wow, my moms van is leaking from this line and there is no way I would be able to replace this myself. The back half the engine is covered by body, it is hard enough to put the fluid in teh reservoir itself if you have big bottles.

  • Nice Video! My power steering pump pressure line just busted and i had no idea how to fix it. Well now i do thanks to your video!

  • ok i have a leak in the hose i tried to replace it but there is no room around the steering box. i would just like to know what can i take off in order to get down in there with out messing up anything.

  • Thanks for the vid. I just changed the power steering pump on a 2000 Grand Prix and I still have a leak. I think I will be doing this project next weekend once I find a place to get a replacement line.

  • @wldennis1 AutoZone had it for cheap.

  • It sounds like some other mechanic who said it would be a tough job....:) Just to get some business..

  • the way i purge the system of all the air is to fill the pump the start the engine and turn the wheels alll the way right, left, right then make smaller turns while idling until the noise stops withe the cap off never had a prob yet but great video i alway love learning new trick and some time teach some...lol

  • Great vid as always richpin06a. I have watched every video (some twice) Now that my kids are driving I have become a mechanic for 5 family cars and have used many of your videos to get the job done. The clarity of this video is amazing, may I ask what camera you are using?

  • @ak12543 I am using a Samsung TL105

  • thumb high, ,about air in the system after, does it purge itself normally with the fluid filled up to the line in steering fluid box(with the cap closed while driving i assume!!!) ???

  • @therockkkkher yes it does

  • nice :)

  • Good tip about cutting the pressure line just before the steering rack. Sure makes the fitting removal a piece of cake using the socket.

  • Wow!! Where did the line develop a leak? RL

  • @rlewis1946 In the rubber part of the line

  • Great video !

  • Excellent video Rich
