This is a great tip video! I do this type of thing a lot :) I am trying to understand what type of angle into the ball and what the club head is doing through impact for longer full shots with a wedge that spins the ball backwards after landing.
i used to use the second method of "flicking the mud" and it worked quite well most of the time, however I then watched phil Micklesons short game dvd where he refers to such an action as the kiss of death, now i think I'll take everything with a pinch of salt as ones faux pas is someone elses holy grail!
This game is so frustrating, I goingto go and play 18 holes to calm down and relax.
Nice video. I would like to know more about how to use the bounce on the wedge for pitching vs the leading edge and what set up and swing adjustments this involves, thanks in advance.
Really enjoyed your explanation, how this is one of very few vid's that actually shows the shot before & after.I play a lot of golf myself but am a golfer who sweeps the ball & struggle at times controlling distance.Lower ball flight (as I do) is a more difficult game to play.Is there a basic tutorial or lesson I should be doing to correct my "sweeping" .I do realize I need to cock the wrist more quickly but also should note, having played a lot of hockey I have that hockey swing as well.Lefty too
@paul3810 any club creates backspin, i use a nike vr 58deg. and a nike sv tour 52 deg. both create spin nice, also using a proper ball with high spin, titlest pro v1 or nike 20xi should create a firm bite on the greens
I have to strongly disagree with the cupped wrist chipping advice-it's simply too complicated for most people to time well. There are better ways to get the ball high and stopped-use a more lofted wedge, open up the clubface, put the ball slightly forward in the stance, put the weight slightly forward, use indirect impact. Flipping the club varies the face angle and bottom of the swing arc too much through impact-for consistent impact you want to have a consistent face angle as long as possible.
You seem like an excellent teacher. I am 15 and about a 10 handicap. I am quitting football to focus on golf. Hopefully to become scratch in the next 4 years for a college scholarship. Anyways, where do you teach out of? I would really like to take lessons form you or something to help my game.
Great video, I was wondering if you could make a video for creating backspin with a full shot. I can really spin my 64 and my sand and pitch a little but I was wondering if you had a video for making your mid irons stop and even check back a little?
Dave: Great video, I struggle with very short chip shots when the ball is sitting down in the fringe or up against the collar. Should you feel some stress on the shaft with these short little chips?
`Hi Dave, great video - thanks! I''ve got another question. What do you do with students who impose a lot of pressure upon their grip in the set-up position? (Although their grip position is good.)

great video. i'm hitting my mid irons really high off the grass, i think i have too much backspin, how can i take off some spin to lower my ball flight and hit it more consistently. thanks
why such a amazing golfing video have no attention on it very less views... i cant believe i loved mytpi alot quality trainning is what they doing hope more people could see it im sure will benefits their game
Interesting insights Dave, I learned something new today. One of my favorite shots of all time was when Paddy had that pitch on the 18th at Carnoustie that jumped past the hole and practically stopped dead. You could hear the gallery gasp because it looked like he was going to have a 15 footer but the backspin he put on that pitch is what won him the Open.
Great video thanks so much

Great video, but I was always told "hinge and hold" like Phil says. Flipping your wrist seems to be inconsistent.
