yes this hit was clean, but not necesary, the puck was gone and hudler was out of the play. brown didnt need to make that hit especially since he was in a vulnerable position

As I understand the new rule, that's become an illegal hit. It would hopefully now be considered lateral/back pressure hit.
Clean as far as the rules then, but as a Wings fan - hated it... until the next day when i had more emotions in check and realized it wasn't as bad as it looked.

i didn't say the Brown hit was illegal, i just said he hit Hudler like 2-4 seconds after the puck left. But everyone i talk to who isn't a Detroit fan says the hit on Havlat was illegal... but the puck was RIGHT there... it wouldn't be bad if they called the penalty charging(it was borderline) but they called it INTERFERENCE, yet the puck is in between his legs. BOTH are legal.

oh yeah, Detroit got all the calls in that series. Except the goal called back and the automatic suspensions for Neidermeyer, Perry and Gatzlav at the end of game 6. and the goaltender interference call to Hudler when he got cross checked by Pronger.
and pretty much every other call in the series. but yeah, this didn't have to be called, and Hudler visor cut him. you can't say he dove or drew the penalty though.

Hudler has a real problem putting his head down in open ice. Phaneuf caught him in the same situation, leveled him with the same hit and there was no call. This hit was a split second late, very hard but far from vicious. If it wasn't a Redwing player injured during the playoffs, there wouldn't have been a call. Everyone who is not a Detroilet fan knows the Wings get the better of most calls.

The goal that Watson blew off was a travesty. It was a screw-up on the highest order.
As for this hit: Brown hand ample time to break off his course towards Hudler after the latter passed the puck. Instead, he chose to not only continue, but also rotate his upper body into it. That's dangerous and illegal.

looked late... the puck had been gone for a good 2-4 seconds... weird thing is Kronwall got ejected for a CLEAN hit where the puck was right there and Hudler was hit when the puck was gone, Brown could SEE that the puck was gone too... nobody expects to get hit when the puck is off of their stick

One may only hit a player without the puck if it is clearly evident that the hit was already in motion before the puck was passed away.
Hudler passed the puck, and only AFTER this did Brown rotate his upper body to deck Hudler in the face.
