Well, it's a sad day but everyone on YouTube who posted a video as this being the longest bridge in the world has to re-list it as being the 2nd longest bridge. The Chinese built one that is about 3.5mi longer than the Causeway. I'd love some nice roads in CA :) but if we are going to build the next cool bridge we should check out some of the great lakes :)

@andyrooney12 The Chinese bridge doubles back on itself so they had to make a category for it. The Causeway still holds the title as the longest continuous bridge over water.

The Causeway Bridge was originally a single span with one northbound lane and one southbound lane. When you drove you had to stay alert for oncoming traffic in your lane (people passing slower cars).

My mother was the fourth car in a 19-car pileup on that bridge during heavy fog in the early 1960s.

In 1968, a good friend was killed in a head-on collision on that bridge. Two cars of golfers crossed the bridge to play in a tournament but only one carload made it back.

I don't want 2 dissapoint no americans, but the world longest bridge is situated in PRC (4 americutns: China), and its lenght is almost 170 kms,(4 americans540700 feet!!!), yeah this world is amazing! even where no democracy stepped yet....

@Travmapunk Actually this is, in fact, the longest *over water* bridge in the world. The one in China you are referring to is much longer yes, but it does not go over water for the entire length of the bridge. I'm not talking national pride or anything, it's just a bridge. But yes, democracy is pretty nice, IMHO.

I passed this bridge once. Went to Manderville.

the cause way bridge is 23.9 miles long one way.... go to maps.google.com and see for yourselves. The toll road that includes the causeway has about 2.6 miles on land. It is NOT seven miles - people get your facts straight - if your not sure investigate it first - according to all the map programs I've researched - it takes about 32 minutes to cross this from the beginning of the toll to the end.

This bridge is insane. My girlfriend is from New Orlenas and I went to St. Tammany with her this past christmas break to meet her family... I have a big phobia of bridges and I spent like an entire morning trying to prepare myself to cross that monster. I had to take deep breaths and listen to spa music the entire time I was driving across.... it's an amazing strutcture.

Always love seeing this very, very, very long bridge. About 6-10 miles separate the various navigation passages (drawbridges, and variously higher fixed longer spans, with the longest of all being somewhere in the middle, @2:11-2:30 before ABBA get to one of the Super Trooper choruses.
