By the 1950's live he lowered it sometimes so he would sing high B instead of C on occasion and this is common in this aria with many tenors doing it who where capable of singing high C's like Bjorling. He sang this aria on the Firestone TV show on March 6,1950 also but in Key so it just depended how he felt at the time. He lowered the aria "Che Gelida" on the 1956 TV show Producers show case with Tebaldi also to sing B instead and a few other times, but so what, still great singing.
