  • actually, the motivation is guy is in jail daydreaming about his girl on the outside.....original music, you hear the other jailmates echoing "over the wall....over the wall".....so yeah, the singer here is entranced by what is on the other side of the cell wall....who is "marta". the falsetto is acting, it brings out despair, the crescendo is acting, it brings out longing....that is called dynamic in music, that is acting in music...done in an intimate setting which would make all else, silly:)

  • Man these comments are harsh. I wonder how much screen acting all of the negative people commenting on this post have done. His voice is awesome, and he is definitely seeing everything he is saying...and thats all the camera needs to see. No he's not doing cliche massive gestures that we are all familiar with in musical theatre- but thats a good thing. Great job mate!

  • He has an good voice, sure. But he is just not interesting... Sorry. Act while you sing please.

  • He'd make an amazing Tony in West Side Story. Can you imagine him singing Maria?

  • Cheeky little anchoring trick thrown in there

  • ps... a singing performance on a theatre school... is also about bringing a song, and there for acting...

  • euhm... someone wrote it is impossible to judge acting skills while singing..i think it is very much important how someone brings the song... tells the story... acts..

the notes someone sings doesn't touch the viewer.. it is the emotion and the hart that brings a song a life... and yes.. his notes are amazing.. but it didn't touch me... but that is just my modest opinion...

  • This dude has an amazing voice! He will go far. Someone made a snide comment about him not being able to act, although his vocals are close to flawless. I think that was harsh. This is a SINGING performance, is it not? I suppose if acting were a part of the makeup, it would be staged as a play. It is impossible to judge his acting skills in a singing performance. Either way, it was awesome!

  • I saw J D in Forever Plaid at the CLO. He made a great Jinx! Great voice.

  • This guy is a good singer, but I think the song carries more emotional weight when sung by a baritone. The lower register carries more weight and emotion, and makes the song more touching when you hear a booming voice go into falsetto / lighter tones.

  • I agree... the key change really benefits from the sense that someone's really working at the top of their range.

  • Is it just me or does he look a lot like Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes?!

  • @wainblatrobert HAHAH totally. it's his hairdo mostly i think. lol made me laugh

  • He was so amazing when he did Urinetown at Penn State! I love his voice.

  • JD Daw is amazing! I wish he'd come to England! I deffinately get a ticket to see him! And he's so good looking it's unreal!

  • He's amazing... I just think that he needs to put himself into it! Act a little more! He has the voice, he just needs the acting!

  • dang they sure know how to produce them at penn state

  • JD is a hottie and very talented! Check him out live on stage in Sacramento, CA... "Forever Plaid" at the brand new Cosmopolitan Cabaret Theatre, opening September 28, 2008 for an open ended run!

  • A fantastic voice, but you can tell by the eyes that it's not connected to the text. It's a shame because the upper voice is first rate.

  • where is psu?

  • Penn State University in State College, PA

  • He uses his ability to manulate his voice and synchronize facial expressions to "act out" the words. His performance shows the restraint needed for this wistful, melancholy song.

  • I hate when we hear a fantastic voice but nothing else behind it! Think about the words mister!

  • i love your voice!!

  • he has an amazing voice, but I wish that he would act a little bit more. He had, practically, one facial expression throughout the entire song.

  • A classic example of a music theatre performer whose too caught up in their own sound to even consider the thought of acting. Having said that, it is a lovely voice.

  • exactly..he is so amazing..but he knows that all too well...he is so boring to watch..what a shame

  • @redemption79 it's more powerful being still with energy. he's good. this song doesnt require motions or a wide range of facial expressions.

  • This is a lovely song, Kudos to you. I have never heard of Kiss of The Spiderwoman is the soundtrack worth buying/ downloading of of itunes?

  • Saw the show in London. It is superb and one of my favourites. The soundtrack is available and worth buying.

  • he is so incredible

  • TERRIFIC!

  • I'm a Bass and even though I can probably sing twice as low ad he can I'm still really jealous of his upper range

  • Stunning. When and where was this performance?

  • WOW!! You can sing boy! Best of luck to you!! :)

  • could his pants be any tighter??? maybe thats how he hits those notes.

  • hey, back off his clothes. he hits those notes because he's talented

  • Absolutely wonderful! I'm off to listen to JD's other YT performances...

  • I've added this to my "Best of College Musical Theatre" playlist. Please nominate other performances...

  • flawless.

He probably has the best control in a male voice I've ever heard. wow

  • I agree and the applause should have been louder and stronger!
