CG: overrated, relies on fanservice, Suzaku vs Lelouch is pretty much who sparkles more. The "Strategies" are asspulls that make no sense whatsoever (Sadly fans think it's genius), the whole concept is a DN ripoff, The action is some lame gundam crap with "Who has better installments" and of course the development sucks major ass

I liked Death Note better, to me CG was too sloppy, they just threw in bits and pieces from other animes into one big bowl (fan service harem, mechs, mystics, humor etc) plus i think Light is a more well developed character than Lelouch

Light is soooo much more realistic considering he only feels bad about killing once. Then he suddenly doesn't care about the lives he takes. He also has no libido. While Lelouch loves C.C.
@BlackBladeSamurai I didn't say Light was more realistic, i said more well developed, Lelouch is the archetype revolutionary, his motives bore me, because i've seen it done before, however Light is a sociopath (which is why he doesn't feel bad about killing) however he wasn't a sociopath at the beginning, the show does a very good job of showing Light's slow transition into madness and corruption, which I think is genius, as opposed to Lelouch who had little to no development in the series.

death note has better writing because when things happen they happen intellectually (they surprise us by actually following the rules of the anime, in a way they outwit even the audience) rather than code geass's more imaginative writing (anything can happen even if it defies the boundaries set by the anime) so DN it is much tougher to write that has to be taken into account when saying which one is better. Thats the reason DN is the superior writing

The point is death note would never use willpower as a means to explain something there is always a proper explanation that follows the boundaries of the anime, in code geass the geass cannot be overturned but threw willpower nunally did just that. This is breaking the rule set by the anime which death note never did so thats why Death Note > Code Geass (although geass's ending was better)
Sometimes in code geass things just happened to surprise the viewer but there was no true logic behind it examples are when euphy starts to kill all the japanese because of a dumb mistake lelouch made, thats mostly random because he could have said something else like bring me cake but just to juice up the intensity it happened that way, another example was when nunally opened her eyes which made no sense cause she could never open them before but just because of will power.
I love both animes, but Death Note is slightly better than Code Geass, because in death note things dont just happen because they happen, there is always a technical reason behind it and it makes sense.

Death Note had a premise that I could enjoy through and through. Code Geass was good in its first season, but R2 kept piling on so many twists that I stopped caring.
I personally like Code Geass MUCH better than Death Note.
Here the reasons why:
1.) After L died Death Note got really boring.
2.) Code Geass was far more surprising and exciting. There happened so many things in this anime that I did not see coming, espacielly in the last episodes.
3.) While I knew from the first episode on that Light is evil (there is no discussion about that, he IS supposed to be evil) while Lelouch´s character seems far more complex to me.
Finally, in terms of realism, I thought the whole theme and Victorian setting of Brittania and Lelouch's Machiavellian ideas ("The ends justifies the means") was a much more intelligent and realistic then Light proclaiming,"I am God." All in all, both series are awesome, but I enjoyed Code Geass a little more.
@notmyname97 LOL very true. I'm glad I finally found someone describe the contrast so well. CG is more on the emotional side - his motivations are based in his emotions, while Light is all up in his head, making him seem less human and a lot harder for me to relate to personally.
That, and I hate the argument that most people have, that Lelouch is a stereotypical rebel and Light is more realistic. Both of them had their moments of being insanely mad with power and killing, however, it is their end result that defines the difference of their means to achieve the same goal, thus defining their characters individually.
I think both amines are equally epic, well-written, and thrilling. However, Code Geass wad more to my taste since it wasn't just robot mecha fights (btw, the fights are more tactics than just guns), and the show wasn't about human nature and power like death note. Yes, they both had those themes, but Code Geass was more about how the idea of power leads to a group of corruption, and that slows down the world, and in the end, someone, innocent or not, must atone for the world and take the blame
Death Note is better in my opinion. I do agree however that the ending for Code Geass was much better than the ending for Death Note. Death Note developed the plot like no other anime that I've ever seen with intense characters. Code Geass's plot was a little random at times and it took away from the brilliancy. Overall they are both great animes and they both make it into my top five.
I would have to say code geass, altho i just recently finnished code geass and its a pretty long time since i saw death note. I mean there wasnt even 1 moment in code geass that i wasnt super exited! also the ending was nearly PERFECT!! I didnt really like death notes ending, imo it should have ended when L died.
Code Geass became slightly better than Death Note because of its ending.........overall i'd say Code Geass and Death Note are on an another level than all the other animes and top the best anime lists everywhere........Naruto,DBZ,Bleach etc are all just overated animes for kids.
I think Code Geass was more suspenseful and addicting, but Death Note was a much deeper psychological character study, and it had a clear morale too, which is why I appreciate it more as a whole. But as you said, both are amazing animes, that deserve more appreciation than all those superlong mainstream animes (IMO at least).

The only reason most people prefer Code Geass is because it is so watered down for younger audiences with its extreme exaggeration that would never happen in a real situation. In all honesty i feel as if Light is more Human, you see through his thought process alot more than Lelouch. Sure he goes insane but you can see how. Code geass is great but it is so childish in comparison and full of cliches.
Many people choose Code Geass as being better because of it's happier ending and Lelouch being a "good guy" till the end. But Death Note is much more realistic. The story delves deeper into human nature and society in general. The concept of the story, grim plot, and Light's pathetic death teaches a moral lesson and leaves a lasting impression. Death Note is in a category of it's own.
@stacybiotch I have. Lelouch gets stabbed and dies. It was something he planned all along. In a sense, "he won". Eliminated his enemy father, became ruler of Britannia, and although Nunnally couldn't have a brother, the entire process of the story allowed her to see and walk. While Light is utterly humiliated by Near, betrayed by Ryuk who he thought was his friend, and becomes isolated from everyone. Although, the anime version spared him the sadder ending compared to the manga.

Light relied on a lot of things too, and one of those things he relied on failed, which meant he died. Lelouch didn't exactly rely on everyone, he used them to the extreme, to make them hate him.

I love death note because it has a variable protagonist. If you think the only way to cleanse the world is by fire, you go with light. If you think that its wrong to kill indiscriminately, you go with L, Mello, and Near.
i gotta go with Death Note mostly because Light is a more complex character than Lelouch, and i know some disagree, but here's my reasoning, for the most part, Lelouch is the stererotypical anti hero/rebel trying to free the world of oppression by any means necessary, we've seen this time and time again, all the Robin Hood/ V for vendetta charactertypes, while he's more "noble" than Light, his character sorta bored me. 1/2

Light was neither portrayed as a hero or a villain. It was a choice left to the audience to view him as good or bad. I personally saw himself as the most badass protagonist in an anime ever. I do agree that he got a little crazy, but that was because of all the pressure he had on his shoulders. It's just like people at war; they have to constantly fear for their life and avoid all mistakes, or they'll die. That's not something that people can endure without it affecting them.

Yes Light died in the end but the anime was unlike anything I've ever seen. It's original, and had a very urban and very...REAL quality about it. Not cut and paste like a lot of animes (not saying Code Geass is cut and paste, it was an amazing anime as well). I loved everthing about DN, simply brilliant :)
Yeah Death Note is pretty epic and I love how it has twists,action,etc and more of a challenge then Code Geass.But I'm going to have to go with Code Geass,cause it has more extreme twists then Death Note and more Action to it,Just killing someone in the Death Note is pretty awesome,But Lelouch's power to control people is even more exciting and he could even make them commit suicide.It has more details to it then Death Note,and it tells a sad story to a Happy ending for the world.
Well, Code Geass is EPIC, has better characters, an EPIC plot, and it was also extremely sad. Death Note is also good. Not as EPIC(i <3 that word), but is very realistic and makes a bit more sense. I personaly like CG better, but Death Note is really close!!!

Both series were very thought-provoking, where you wondered what "justice" really meant, especially with all the crazy methods used to attain it. I think that Code geass has a better plot and character development, and is overall a better anime simply because of the way the story unfolds. However, code geass's main drawback is that it lacks originality, whereas death note is very unique with its anti-protagonist. it's just that halfway through.. it kinda lost its spark.

I fell in love with Death Note about 2 months ago, and have seen every episode at least 3 times, and tonight I just finished Code Geass (R1 and R2). I really like Code Geass, a lot, but it can't top Death Note in my opinion. Towards the end of CG, when Lalouch destroys his fathers project, it goes a bit off target after that. Death Note stayed awesome the whole way through. Both main characters are awesome, which make CG and DN my favourite anime shows of all time. (DN 1st, CG 2nd)
i was recommended to watch CG cuz it was "similar to DN" but honestly i was kinda disappointed i mean it all gundam stuff with lelouch being having similar powers to DN's but all in all DN is much better...its the best Anime in History and to be honest....BEST TV show ever right along with Lost xD but thats just my opinion
@X5Exotic If you dont like the knightmares in Code Geass read the manga they are barley in it, also geass is like a super powered form of the deathnote, it can make people die or do anything at all with no time restrictions even to the casters death, aswell as it can give people above human powers toi make sure they complete that task, deathnote does that but with time restrictions no controling people without reason or within there will and not killing extra people when using it nless specified
Both Code Geass and Death note have very good plot the both go into diffrent morals, code geass= good and evil as the same thing just seperate opinions and what is true peace, death note= a batlle between good and evil but depending on who is watching the sides will switch also showing that whoever wins is "good" Both animes have equally deep plot, do not judge by your opinion on which has more plot people they are pretty much equal just it depend on which one grabs you personally
better anti hero, Light vs Lelouch- well this is a tough one, but i think Light is better, they are both going for world domination, and are ruthless, however Light's level of coldness is just amazing, he always kept a calm head, and would literally kill ANYONE, his father, his sister, anyone, to make sure he succeeded, while Lelouch had one weakness, his friends, he didn't want to hurt them, and everytime one of them died, he was emotionally compromised pt1
better weapon- this really depends on what you're doing with the weapon, the ironic thing is, both light and lelouch could use each OTHER's weapon better, if Light had a geass, he could simply make L or Near kill themselves, while if Lelouch had the death note, since he already knew the royal family's names and faces, he could kill them easily, so for this, its a tie

GUYS. This is not Lelouch vs. every single Death Note character..or Light vs. Lelouch, or anything other possible character comparison! This is ANIME SHOW vs. ANIME SHOW as a WHOLE. You can't pick one side just because "I like it better" or "Lelouch is more popular"...However, I will say DN vs. CG, DN IS more popular than CG. Frankly, CG is underrated, while DN has a lot of extra background things (special books, novels, movies, etc.) DN is higher up in a poll than CG of popularity. That's it.

@BlackBladeSamurai I didn't say Light was more realistic, i said more well developed, Lelouch is the archetype revolutionary, his motives bore me, because i've seen it done before, however Light is a sociopath (which is why he doesn't feel bad about killing) however he wasn't a sociopath at the beginning, the show does a very good job of showing Light's slow transition into madness and corruption, which I think is genius, as opposed to Lelouch who had little to no development in the series.

death note has better writing because when things happen they happen intellectually (they surprise us by actually following the rules of the anime, in a way they outwit even the audience) rather than code geass's more imaginative writing (anything can happen even if it defies the boundaries set by the anime) so DN it is much tougher to write that has to be taken into account when saying which one is better. Thats the reason DN is the superior writing

The point is death note would never use willpower as a means to explain something there is always a proper explanation that follows the boundaries of the anime, in code geass the geass cannot be overturned but threw willpower nunally did just that. This is breaking the rule set by the anime which death note never did so thats why Death Note > Code Geass (although geass's ending was better)

Sometimes in code geass things just happened to surprise the viewer but there was no true logic behind it examples are when euphy starts to kill all the japanese because of a dumb mistake lelouch made, thats mostly random because he could have said something else like bring me cake but just to juice up the intensity it happened that way, another example was when nunally opened her eyes which made no sense cause she could never open them before but just because of will power.

I personally like Code Geass MUCH better than Death Note.
Here the reasons why:
1.) After L died Death Note got really boring.
2.) Code Geass was far more surprising and exciting. There happened so many things in this anime that I did not see coming, espacielly in the last episodes.
3.) While I knew from the first episode on that Light is evil (there is no discussion about that, he IS supposed to be evil) while Lelouch´s character seems far more complex to me.

Finally, in terms of realism, I thought the whole theme and Victorian setting of Brittania and Lelouch's Machiavellian ideas ("The ends justifies the means") was a much more intelligent and realistic then Light proclaiming,"I am God." All in all, both series are awesome, but I enjoyed Code Geass a little more.

I think both amines are equally epic, well-written, and thrilling. However, Code Geass wad more to my taste since it wasn't just robot mecha fights (btw, the fights are more tactics than just guns), and the show wasn't about human nature and power like death note. Yes, they both had those themes, but Code Geass was more about how the idea of power leads to a group of corruption, and that slows down the world, and in the end, someone, innocent or not, must atone for the world and take the blame

Death Note is better in my opinion. I do agree however that the ending for Code Geass was much better than the ending for Death Note. Death Note developed the plot like no other anime that I've ever seen with intense characters. Code Geass's plot was a little random at times and it took away from the brilliancy. Overall they are both great animes and they both make it into my top five.

I think Code Geass was more suspenseful and addicting, but Death Note was a much deeper psychological character study, and it had a clear morale too, which is why I appreciate it more as a whole. But as you said, both are amazing animes, that deserve more appreciation than all those superlong mainstream animes (IMO at least).

The only reason most people prefer Code Geass is because it is so watered down for younger audiences with its extreme exaggeration that would never happen in a real situation. In all honesty i feel as if Light is more Human, you see through his thought process alot more than Lelouch. Sure he goes insane but you can see how. Code geass is great but it is so childish in comparison and full of cliches.

Many people choose Code Geass as being better because of it's happier ending and Lelouch being a "good guy" till the end. But Death Note is much more realistic. The story delves deeper into human nature and society in general. The concept of the story, grim plot, and Light's pathetic death teaches a moral lesson and leaves a lasting impression. Death Note is in a category of it's own.

@stacybiotch I have. Lelouch gets stabbed and dies. It was something he planned all along. In a sense, "he won". Eliminated his enemy father, became ruler of Britannia, and although Nunnally couldn't have a brother, the entire process of the story allowed her to see and walk. While Light is utterly humiliated by Near, betrayed by Ryuk who he thought was his friend, and becomes isolated from everyone. Although, the anime version spared him the sadder ending compared to the manga.

Light was neither portrayed as a hero or a villain. It was a choice left to the audience to view him as good or bad. I personally saw himself as the most badass protagonist in an anime ever. I do agree that he got a little crazy, but that was because of all the pressure he had on his shoulders. It's just like people at war; they have to constantly fear for their life and avoid all mistakes, or they'll die. That's not something that people can endure without it affecting them.

Yes Light died in the end but the anime was unlike anything I've ever seen. It's original, and had a very urban and very...REAL quality about it. Not cut and paste like a lot of animes (not saying Code Geass is cut and paste, it was an amazing anime as well). I loved everthing about DN, simply brilliant :)

Death Note is good until L dies after that it gose down hill Code Geass pritty much kept me wanting more until the end but this is a good fight

Well, Code Geass is EPIC, has better characters, an EPIC plot, and it was also extremely sad. Death Note is also good. Not as EPIC(i <3 that word), but is very realistic and makes a bit more sense. I personaly like CG better, but Death Note is really close!!!

death note is good. i can say its cool. great storyline. but it boreds me after L died. The story went down and i just watched the final episode and that.
code geass is bad. its pure trash and the story was told in a complicated way. but man, i love it a lot. death note is cool but code geass is epicness. theres more of growth character. more of thrill. more of emotions. more of what death note cannot bring.
well its my opinion. all i can say is "all hail lelouch"

code geass is more cool.. they just put it so much exaggeration but it still reflects how thw world needs somebody to change its course.. however light is just pure evil... lelouch does evil things for the greater good of the people

Both series were very thought-provoking, where you wondered what "justice" really meant, especially with all the crazy methods used to attain it. I think that Code geass has a better plot and character development, and is overall a better anime simply because of the way the story unfolds. However, code geass's main drawback is that it lacks originality, whereas death note is very unique with its anti-protagonist. it's just that halfway through.. it kinda lost its spark.

Death Note's 2nd half was absolute trash and a chore to complete.
while CG remains fun, engaging, exciting, and entertaining throughout to watch. and CG's ending pwns the hell out of DN's ending anytime.

@SonicTrooper22 you're really making no sense at all...aside from making a competition with yourself...light was made to be a bad guy... having a better cause isn't a plus... and CG is just crappy machines fighting w/ crappy animation especially for zero himself (he looks like a stick with a balloonhead wearing a robe.. and the story is much better in DN so Winner:Light/DN

@SonicTrooper22 well the show was about light's fall,, good cause bad methods... that's the point.. he didn't just realise he was a bad guy...said: oops and corrected his mistakes,,,he was proven wrong and realizes that he wasn't a god... and it wasn't about boringness...he intended to save the world that was "rotting" it just happened that he was bored and tried the death note just for the heck of it,, then realises this was serious....lelouch was also bored with his life you know.. but...

Both animes are amazing and I would pay huge for opportunity to forget them and watch them over (don't offer me what will put me in coma)
What about "versus" part..
Death Note: well for example character death scenes, most of people that died in this anime I was like "meh... who's next going to die?"(except Kiras and Ls deaths)
Code Geass: They made important character deaths so emotional... intense that I completely forgot myself thinking logic until episode ends. I think my vote for CodeG

I fell in love with Death Note about 2 months ago, and have seen every episode at least 3 times, and tonight I just finished Code Geass (R1 and R2). I really like Code Geass, a lot, but it can't top Death Note in my opinion. Towards the end of CG, when Lalouch destroys his fathers project, it goes a bit off target after that. Death Note stayed awesome the whole way through. Both main characters are awesome, which make CG and DN my favourite anime shows of all time. (DN 1st, CG 2nd)

i was recommended to watch CG cuz it was "similar to DN" but honestly i was kinda disappointed i mean it all gundam stuff with lelouch being having similar powers to DN's but all in all DN is much better...its the best Anime in History and to be honest....BEST TV show ever right along with Lost xD but thats just my opinion

@X5Exotic If you dont like the knightmares in Code Geass read the manga they are barley in it, also geass is like a super powered form of the deathnote, it can make people die or do anything at all with no time restrictions even to the casters death, aswell as it can give people above human powers toi make sure they complete that task, deathnote does that but with time restrictions no controling people without reason or within there will and not killing extra people when using it nless specified

Both Code Geass and Death note have very good plot the both go into diffrent morals, code geass= good and evil as the same thing just seperate opinions and what is true peace, death note= a batlle between good and evil but depending on who is watching the sides will switch also showing that whoever wins is "good" Both animes have equally deep plot, do not judge by your opinion on which has more plot people they are pretty much equal just it depend on which one grabs you personally

better anti hero, Light vs Lelouch- well this is a tough one, but i think Light is better, they are both going for world domination, and are ruthless, however Light's level of coldness is just amazing, he always kept a calm head, and would literally kill ANYONE, his father, his sister, anyone, to make sure he succeeded, while Lelouch had one weakness, his friends, he didn't want to hurt them, and everytime one of them died, he was emotionally compromised pt1

better weapon- this really depends on what you're doing with the weapon, the ironic thing is, both light and lelouch could use each OTHER's weapon better, if Light had a geass, he could simply make L or Near kill themselves, while if Lelouch had the death note, since he already knew the royal family's names and faces, he could kill them easily, so for this, its a tie

@thestegman100 pt 4 better immortal henchman, Ryuk or c.c- gotta give this to c.c, she is actually loyal and will put her life on the line (which, since she is immortal losses some of its worth) for Lelouch and was the key to many of his victories, while ryuk, who has been useful (the bus incident, finding the bugs in light's room) generally can't be trusted and will purposely withhold info from light just for fun, also he sorta killed light in the end...so yeah...not really a great helper

@thestegman100 finally, better plot/overall show, giving it to Death Note, it felt intense and gripping from beginning to end, and had truly interesting characters, CG was good, but besides lelouch, i did'nt like nor care for any of the characters, also it tried to put TOO MUCH stuff in it, it's like it took bits and pieces from other anime and added it into a pot, magical powers, action, mechs, warfare, fan service girls etc Death note was more realistic and focused.

GUYS. This is not Lelouch vs. every single Death Note character..or Light vs. Lelouch, or anything other possible character comparison! This is ANIME SHOW vs. ANIME SHOW as a WHOLE. You can't pick one side just because "I like it better" or "Lelouch is more popular"...However, I will say DN vs. CG, DN IS more popular than CG. Frankly, CG is underrated, while DN has a lot of extra background things (special books, novels, movies, etc.) DN is higher up in a poll than CG of popularity. That's it.
