Arc-air gouging is an excellent proccess; weld seam cut-backs,flushing,re-siting frames, bulkheads etc....in the right hands! however, you won't live to see retirement unless you mask up!!
How do you figure? Carbon arc gouging rods are well, carbon, and coated in copper. The base material he's gouging is plain steel... no chromium there.
Where are your hexavalent chromium atoms coming from, Miss Brockovich?
As a health and safety professional I want to make all viewers aware of a couple items. One, arc air gouging (carbon arc cutting, scarfing, etc) is a significant source of noise exposure for an employee. Exposures are usually in the 105 - 110 dBA range, average exposures for a full day should be less than 85 dBA. Double hearing protection should be worn during this work.
Also, carbon monoxide and metal fume exposures can be of concern especially when working in tight quarters.
You yanks havnt got a clue , your gouging gammy handed.
UK all the way !

@ekfinn i apologize. Hex Chrome is only a problem when arcing stainless steel.
