  • is this out of sync only for me?

  • Comment removed

  • *tick, tock, tick, tock* Open your eyes Alton! *burst of static*

  • This is a nice transition episode after Steve Rooney, who played the Mad French Chef in seasons 1-4 (done by Means St. Productions) was no longer part of Good Eats (since Alton and DeAnna Brown did GE via their in-house BeSquared Productions from season 5 onward.) Not quite death of Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, but still good.

  • LOVE the french accent!!! Especially the "light" part. That's the southern boy coming out! lol LOVE IT!

  • I don't see what's so hard about making crepes. It's a heck of a lot easier than slicing meat properly and you don't run the risk of cutting off your fingers.

  • I love his hypnosis dream at the very beginning!! "Like your lumpy American head!!"

  • know what ive always wondered.... why does W dislike him so much??

  • has anyone tried this recipe?

  • @sneekypanda Yeah,it's REALLY good! Nice and thin.

  • Zeez achrrr not crepes, zeez arrr LUMPY, like your fuzzy American head!!

    lolol

  • he really had to get over his fear of crepes when he made this episode, it's in his book "The Early Years"

  • Alton Brown rocks. I love how he explains his theory on cooking and baking. Best show on foodnet work.

  • Well I know what is for breakfast tomorrow :D

  • @gamemeister27 my thoughts exactly : )

  • HEY! The girl running the franco-mart is the crazed fan lady!

  • lol so true at 09:34...my mom always told me i have memory made of Teflon...nothing sticks : /

  • lol, look at all those...pancakes...lol...

  • ......that's a lot of blenders.

  • ... l __ l ...oh! Crepe Expectations like Great Expectations!! lol! haha sigh*...

  • This is probab;y one of my favorite episodes!

  • @jadedrakerider They are very good for different applications that pancakes aren't. Mainly, filling/topping them with good eats. After I had a "french toast" crepe while visiting my sister in Boston (just cinnamon-y buttery goodness on the crepe) I was sold.

  • Having made crepes since childhood in my household, but by a stricter and older recipe . .. this is actually much quicker and works just as well. With less headache, though that's probably due to the fact the handle broke off the pan I once used.

Cast Iron sufficiently lubricated is fine, just butter/spray it every other round of use. Of course, I do not scoot and flip, I wait for an edge to perk up, and gently separate with a butter knife. Then gently with fingertips . . .

  • Zis are naut crepes, crepes are thin and light and tender. Zis are lumpy, like your fuzzy american hair.

I laughed so hard, I spilt rice on the floor! XD

  • "Get a Beret." LMAO C:

  • is the psychiatrist scene a reference to the Sopranos?

  • Looks like it. She's sexy as hell

  • of course the french would turn nuke parts into cookware :)

  • Idiot.

  • This is one of the few cooking shows on TV, and clearly the best one. There are too many "cooking entertainment" shows on TV, especially on the FoodNetwork. It would be wise for the FoodNetwork to remember what has happened to MTV, the once Music Television channel, that has lost much of its viewers to VH1.

  • good point except two things, viacom owns both mtv and vh1 so they aren't losing viewers...and Vh1 sucks too (no music, like mtv)

  • Music on MTV? Where? All I see are reality shows.

  • Oh i meant like mtv they have no music. lol, so much for grammar :)

  • Hrm your right, misread on my part.

  • @monkeyboy4746 I think that this is also a personality cooking show, but it focuses much more on the food rather than the chef, so it's much, much better.

  • @monkeyboy4746 we vh1 is crap now

  • @carmanshuey Yep

  • @monkeyboy4746 all shows are going down the toilet in my opionon expet for good eats

  • @monkeyboy4746 That may be true......but I still like watching Diners Drive-Ins and Dives.

  • @gamemeister27 Yeah, that's a good show.

  • my mom can't STAND alton, but i really love him! hahaha. i love all the examples he gives and how he shows them. i remember he was talking about air bubbles in something and it cut to a shot of him in a room of balloons and he was popping them, trying to tell us how important it is to get them out. so interesting! and he always has a camera in the fridge or the oven. :)

  • My mom is the same way, "Why don't he just cook, he talks to much" Sorry mom, I want the learn not only they how but the why of cooking!

  • I dont like to use the teflon or any non stick pan. Just a good old fashion steel pan will do.

The non-stick pan contains toxic chemical which you can inhale when cooking.

  • only if its hot enough

  • Good luck making crepes without a nonstick... I am not against stainless steel, cast iron, or teflon, they all have their place in the kitchen. My grandmother found a cheapish non-stick pan that can safely go up to 800 degrees ^_^ Maybe you should consider getting that if you are worried about chemical agents escaping the pan at high temps.

  • i love alton :]

  • alton brown rox my sox

  • Best show in the World!!!! Alton is my culinary hero

  • perhaps you should get out your pad and write me a perscription

  • Well, to put a partial end to the crepe debate, go to the dictionary website and type in crepe. Look for the little audio icon and click it to hear it's pronunciation.

  • These are not crepes! Crepes are thin and light and tender! These are lumpy like your fuzzy American head! - ROFL. AB's such a great writer.

  • I'm french and his basic recipe shouldn't contain any water... just milk

  • doesnt really matter where your from.. doesnt make u any more correct

  • @shufk77 Certainly not any more correct than your English.

  • You know how the batter is refrigerated for a while? Do you have to bring the batter back to room temperature before you cook it?

  • No, you are pouring a very thin layer. It will heat through very quickly.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAARG! It's pronounced "crep" not "crape".

  • Wha? Dutch? Dutch would be pronounced "crepeh".

  • you're right. :) sometimes i say "crapes" but my prof. says "On va faire 'lay crep,' aujourd'hui."

    hahahaha.

  • any body know the name of the new episode, not let tehre be oil, theres a new one on next monday the 11th, its called, dam i forget it was something frozen-ish, i think its ice cream

  • churn baby churn?

  • hahaha

"Alton, honey, I've got to go, I have a chef on the other line. He's already taken off his clothes."

  • "Perhaps you should get out your pad and write me a prescription!" LO-frickin-L!!! I have a new favorite AB quote now! The first bit really shows AB's talent as an actor. It takes a REALLY good actor to switch from emotions like that. I love his face when he's doing the MFC impersonation. Frickin' hilarious.

  • my crepes keep sticking

    I suck

  • Nah...You just have to practice. Crepes are tricky because they're really thin.

  • If its french...well, do I need to say more?

  • lmao... "Fuzzy American head"

    I love him.

  • woah, this whole page of comments is on how to pronounce crepes. heck, i'm just eating the gosh-darned-thing right now and it is delicious! i hope i'm not the only one that doesn't care how to say it.

  • it's krep. with the french R.

but i don't say it that way because i don't want to sound like a snob.

  • actually you are wrong...it's pronounced more like "krepe."

  • dude, I know the right pronunciation ok? My first language is French so don't argue.

  • IT DOESNT MATTER!!!

  • IT DOESNT MATTER!!!

  • IT DOESNT MATTER!!!

  • it is pronounced krrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaape the impasses is on the r and the a

  • like crap but with a long A and an L right?

  • like crapl??? lol

  • OK OK, it is pronounced, "Thin french pancake" now get off this, it doesnt matter

  • OMG this is my fave episode!

LOL Alton is seeing a "pro chef" that calls crepes panackes! Love this show! <3

  • I know that you guys are joking about Shirley's "other service," but just to clear things up for some more naive (french!) viewers, one of the signs of a nervous breakdown is taking off one's clothes.

  • I thought it was a "Naked Chef" reference.

  • holy crap, lol i am making this recipe right now as I watch this, my batter is in the fridge... got some nutella i'm going to fill my crepes with

  • I think Shirley was making reference to another Chef that used to be on Food Network. His name was Jamie Oliver, and was considered 'The Naked Chef.'

  • ZZZZZZ's arnt crepes!!!

  • does the psych here remind anyone else of the one on sopranos or is it just me! i love this show.

  • alton is the best and most practicle chef i know

  • Hehe, with todays conversion rate that 75 franc pan would cost a little over $16 US.

  • "o le wow." lmao!

  • Alton is my hero

  • Shirley did say it! lmao ^_____^ but I don't think I want to know

  • You are truly a god among gods.

  • oh, Wow. Do you think Alton already knew about Shirley's other service?

  • Did Shirley say the chef on the other line already had his clothes off???!!! What other service is she providing over the phone?? !!LMAO!!

  • This episode is the first episode I made a recipe from! ^_^
