I kind of wish that this whole doubles thing would have been introduced as just Doubles curling first. As in gender doesn't matter. I think it kind of hurts the game by initially coming out as Mixed Doubles. Now people only see it as a mixed game, and are less likely to play it. Where as if you start it out as an open event, it would get more people involved thus growing its popularity. I'd much rather watch or do Men's Doubles or watch Women's Doubles. Why does it just have to be Mixed???

There is a long guard and a short guard right on the center line, and you have to throw 3 rocks before you can take out. The ends move too fast to play a takeout game or you're just wasting rocks.

No, there's only one guard, and one rock on the tangential to, but behind the tee-line. The guard can be placed mid, high or tight, depending on the ice conditions. This decision is up to the event manager and is set for the whole game, but may change from game to game. This change in the guard is new this year.

It's an entertaining format to play, though. And actually not too different from regular curling matches, in that the whole game generally comes down to the 4-foot circle.
