  • Britain is not part of Europe, it was always viewed as separate--I'm a Yank and even i know that.

  • ok, why the hell do people like Hannan and Farage not allow someone to state an opposing point of view? their videos are always about them.... their little part of the speech and nothing else; what about the counter arguments? they both accuse the EU of such notorious things, yet we hardly the opposing side defending themselves; this is public opinion manipulation

  • @bbphnix

you want the counter arguments? Go look for them. Theres plenty of EU propaganda out there.

  • This video is a load of shit.

  • @ProtestantsRUs what?

  • Daniel Hannan for Prime Minister!

  • VOTE UKIP!

  • Is it more or did that guy reply to Hannan sounds like he was straight from a mafia film?

  • ELECTION---UK---4th JUNE---POLL BELLOW!!

    misterpoll . com/polls/434281

  • Excellent, but why did the other speaker say "I didn't know you were such a poet Mr Hammond", he was quoting for crying out loud. Stupid.

  • The guy that responds didn't say "I didn't know you were such a poet Mr Hammond" He said "No[s] desconocía estas cualidades de Rxxxx" meaning "We were not aware of these Rxxxx qualities." I have no idea what the last word is but he makes no reference to Hannon being a poet.

That said he has got a pretty nasty accent, I'm fluent and found it hard to understand. I guess the translator was on the spot and had to come up with something fast. I hope the rest of the EU translations aren't so sloppy

  • these poetic qualities? continental languages are generaly backwards, wierd phrasing but could be possible?

  • That's piss-poor.

If the translator doesn't know what was said, he shouldn't make-up random junk. He could have said, "We were not aware of these... uh, qualities."

  • Hey Dan Hannan speaks Spanish, perhaps he could come back and let the rest of us know what the Spanish guys says

  • @johnnywhitechapel Maybe he could get our fish back.

  • @johnnywhitechapel I don't know Spanish, but the word that was cut off was clearly the Spanish word for a "rhapsode"—a person who recites poetry written by other people. The interpreter had to make up something on the spot, but hopefully it makes more sense to know that he said "I didn't know you had such 'rhapsodic' qualities" rather than calling Hannan himself a poet. (Master orator, yes. Master poet, probably not.)

  • You are telling me Dan Hannan can quote Shakespeare without a teleprompter???? Are you kidding me???!!!.................LOL...........B-HO looks like a 3 year old compare to Dan Hannan!

  • he's the best politician out there as far as I can see.

  • Britain needs more Hannans.

  • I bet the Prime Minister's heart sinks every time he sees Hannan stand up.

  • he wud need a heart first. :)

  • I hope Gorden Brown has a heart attack next time when Dan calls his name!..........that would be hilarious!

  • @ComDisk16 As he isnt in parliament I dont think he would see him stand up very often.

  • Fantastic. Really. I've noticed Shakespeare quotes peppering your other speeches and I'm very impressed.

  • Brilliant! I think western civilization is going to have to implode before drastic changes are made. At least Hannan is helping to change people's addiction to statism before the impending financial meltdown reaches rock bottom.

  • You're an erudite master of politics, my friend. Wish more American politicians were like you.

  • Good point Bernie. You should view "The Devalued Prime Minister" to see Hannan tear our unelected Narcissistic Prime Minister a new one!

  • Imagine a world with Ron Paul as the U.S. President and Daniel Hannan as Britain's Prime Minister.

  • It wouldn't be this world. ;)

  • Wow - this man is so perceptive and articulate. I could not imagine him in the vulgar confines of America's governing halls (nor would he likely be welcome these days).

  • So true, DancingTilllDie

  • Mr. Hannan is never boring, always inspiring; and I share his passion for Shakespeare's great wit (in reality, that of Francis Bacon, but we won't quibble.)

  • Haha - Whaaaa? You're saying that Francis Bacon wrote Bill Shakespeare's plays? I'm going to need to see some documentation on that, sir.

  • There is not a huge amount of evidence for that, certainly they and therefor you cannot prove that Shakespeare did not write his plays.

  • I can't do it here, but the evidence is pretty impressive if you really want to know the truth and do the research. Most people don't care.

  • I've read the evidence.

It mostly consists of professors claiming, "No uneducated man could write these plays," because they assume only someone with a degree (like themselves) has any value to contribute to society.

  • Go, Daniel Hannan, Go!

Never let up, never back down, and PLEASE get that book written, and tour of the USA underway.

If only we could lease you to be our next President...

  • Maybe when you better understand yourself you can answer that question; and perhaps if you better understood those around you, you wouldnt have made such childish comment..

There isnt anything wrong with this gentlemans attitude or his accent, may i make it abundantly clear that whatever problem you have with his accent and attitude is uniquely yours and yours alone.

  • Audio's messed up toward the beginning. It must be someone translating Mr. Hannan's speech.

  • Nicely done. :)

  • I saw more people at my son's co-ed volleyball game last night than were in that large lecture hall!

  • Great quotes!

Hey, why is the chamber always nearly empty? Is that indicative of the hardworking nature of eurocrats?

  • Sir, I do greatly appreciate your clear and elegant presentations, noble aspirations, and concise messages.

  • igotta9, I also greatly appreciate Dan's clear & elegant presentations, noble aspirations, & concise messages. But sadly England no longer speaks with his voice or his eloquence.

Perceived speech among the young in the UK today has Asian/Western Caribbean intonations & involves the use if such slang as the ubiquitous & utterly meaningless: "y'nowwotameen" in every sentence.

Unless we want to become just another eurostate & build a bridge to Sangatte, we need to relearn our proud language.

  • Y'nowwotameen in every sentence there in the UK sounds like the equivalent of "y'no" that I often hear in the USA...sort of a verbal punctuation that allows the speaker to sometimes gather intelligible words to express their next 3-7 word thought and take a breath.

  • Whats Eli Wallach 1:14 doing in the EU parliament.

  • Wow...Daniel, you are the Man!! One of my teaching degrees is in English, and I enjoyed the quote. Very well spoken.

What sickens me is the lack of attendance in those sessions. Keep putting your vids on YouTube and anywhere else. I feel the status quo is in for a of reckoning.

  • Something of the Churchill about you Dan?

Damn does that mean we are gonna have another world war.

We've got all the right ingredients, and they are simmering away nicely ;(

  • Many of us have observed that the chamber is usually empty. Mr Hannan's MEP colleagues are doubtless away enjoying the fruits of their non-labour.

Hannan knows, however, that ther are many people who now view his YouTube orartory and appreciate it both for its content and the quality of its delivery. He is not just speaking to the furniture. One day his message will get through; my fear is that by then it will be too late for a civilised and peaceful implementation.

  • You speak with great passion Daniel. You actually give a damn, much more so than the other beaurocrats sitting half asleep, just earning a wage.

  • I bet there will one day be a parliamentary session where no MEPs turn up.

And I bet nothing will change as a result, either.

  • Daniel, you and I both know that the UK is being weighed down with more leverage and less transparency than practically every other nation at the heart of this crisis. To put it bluntly, you guys are screwed.

Please, let the US draft you to Congress so that we at least have a fighting chance!

  • Try this one,,,"But see, thy fault France hath in thee found out, A nest of hollow bosoms..."I fear the English are beset on all sides by the forces of communism, that unnatural condition of society that quiets the industrious yearnings of enterprising men. May the force of will of the English People rise and resist this death stroke of freedom! May the "little body with a mighty heart" turn aside the foul juggernaut that is EU!!! Wave your sail of greatness again!

  • Damn he is good!!!! Shakespeare quotation as well....lol

  • The only good thing about these intense neo-liberal movements are that they are really forcing the conservatives to do things the right way. We are going to win...eventually. But at least our 40 years in the desert will not go in vain. All of our "First world" nations are having flags called on the play due to small infractions many years ago. At least we are building the right kind of nation where hopefully these petty self-interest groups will receive no pity from our children.

  • he speaks with dignity and passion like he really actually gives a shit. thats what seperates him from all thoughs fags in there who just want their wage.

  • he makes you realise that whats great about Europe is were all different its our differences that make us more valid.

  • The poor chap is out of place amidst these humorless poops.

  • The problem is that when Daniel speaks, these guys in the assembly seem to not get the understanding.

  • I think it is because he is merely speaking to the EU Parliament furniture because everyone else has gone home for the day.

  • Daniel Hannan and a room full of furniture is better than the EU parliatment any day.

I'll trade the United States Congress for that without hesitation.

  • .

    Daniel Hannan future Prime Minister!!

  • Indeed! If only we had a political system in which anyone could run for office, rather than merely the party leader. Now that's democracy - let the people choose their leader rather than limit them to a small choice!

  • Conservatives here in America hope to see him on the Front Bench! He has a heart like Churchill, and a fine orater as well! Every time he speaks I here a great similarity between the two! It's Bautiful! He is too far right to be in the Tory party though, as Ron Paul is misfit wit the Republicans, maybe UKIP! lol

  • I love this guy. Dan Hannan, you're magnificent.

  • Happy Birthday, Mr. S! :) As timely now as he was then.

  • there we go a polotitians meaning a lot without saying anything,, or as usual saying a lot and not meaning anything,,

  • TO BE OR NOT TO BE

  • Why literacy (classical) is a good thing. The term used to mean that one had read the classics, now it just means that one can read an 8th grade vocabulary.
