i just rebuild my '01 ls1 (main-rod bearings and stuff) and it makes the same sound of yours... now Definitively lifters... starting using 5w-30 and then changed to 20w-50 and the sound quit a little but still goes...
I have a 2002 ws6 M6 and itstarts to tick slightly once it's warmed up. Only at idle though realy. I've heard alot about this LS1 ticking. Mine worries me but it's not getting any worse n she still runs like brand new. I just got motive 4:10's, do ur motives whine?
or another thing is if its M6 car and you did the 2nd to 1st gear shift or 3rd to 2nd WOT you could have bent some valves by mechanicly over reving it. let me know what you have found out.
well there is alot of things. pull the valve covers off. could be bent push rods,some lifter have taken a DUMP where as you will half to pull the heads. or you have spun a rod bearing and well the motor has to be pulled. ive been working on ls1's for a while so im sure thats one of those.
Check your anti's. My antilock brakes

@6spdbeast Well, my TA is not drivable at all in this condition, no powere what so ever. Yeah my Motives whine pretty loud.

auto or stick? I had a noise like that and thought the motor was junk, turned out it was a cracked ring gear. automatic

blown head gasket and some other shit..oil and water coming out from exhaust, and oil in the radiator o.O
