Coins are not stupid! But much better than quarters and nickles is to use large washers. Actually they are just as some professional pattern weights (only those are painted). The galvanized ones are best as those can't rust or such and then make stains on your fabric. Very cheap at a hardware store (in the US, mine bought in Norway were $20!). Mine are appr. 2 5/8 in diameter and the thickness is 4mm (1/6"). I got 10 and for me that's a perfect number (even for a full length gown).
u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste to be saved
That was an option, but the clothes look very flat. By sewing, I was able to get the ridges that made the coat look as if it was not made of duct tape, but rather actual fabric. It was really a choice of preference, and while it took a lot more work, the coat has held up very well and still looks great.
this is so awesome. ive been planning on making a skirt with low suspenders out of duct tape for a while. i bought 2 rolls of duct tape and these awesome buttons for it, but i havent had time to make it. ill use your video as a format. i thought that i would hand stitch it...would it be easier if i used large needles? or should i just use a sewing machine?
I recommend a sewing machine. Duct tape is thick for hand sewing. You'll need a bottle of rubbing alcohol nearby to clean the needle often. It gums up from the glue, and this causes the needle to break faster. This material will likely break the needle, so I recommend buying a couple extra ones if you don't have them already. Take your time, be patient, and take a few practice runs on some smaller practice pieces so you get an idea of what it's like sewing this stuff.
either way use something like rubbing alcohol to clean the needle as often as possible. it could break your sewing machine if you use it and get the special needles for sewing thick cloth like denim, leather, vinyl, etc.
This is absolutely amazing. my friend Ari would adore you for this and expecially the Carmen Sandiago Hat video. She's planning on going to Comic Con as Carmen.. I'm deffenatly forwarding yoru video to her
Tape would have been alright, but I was worried that it would have changed the measurements, and also come apart. I wanted the coat to not be just a large piece of duct tape, and sewing it gave it the tell-tale ridges that made it look better.
In the future if you plan on using the coins to hold down fabrics it makes sense to use tape to make strands or pads of coins. I haven't personally ever tried doing it but it would hopefully save you some time.
whoa that's amazing I tried to make pants in home ec with instructions and I failed and got a F on it... You must be a desiner or someone that works with clothes a lot!
woah! XD sweet! I want a coat like that. (could've saved me time on my most recent costume making adventure...then again that must have taken a while......)

DizzyWillow 2 years ago
woah! so.... it only took 10 rolls of duct tape to do that whole thing??
gummyyumrose 2 years ago
Give or take. Probably a roll or two more, to include the hat, but one roll goes for quite a ways if you want it to.

Couldn't you have just Duct Taped the pieces together? That's what we here did at school for our Duck Tape fashion show.

uhmmm, homework, walk the dog, destroy world, lvl my WoW account to 70 in one day, feed me, take this stupid and pointless vid off of youtube!
TOCOOLFERYEW 4 years ago
Walk the Dog- make a duct tape leash, tie one end to a moving car.
Destroy the World- you could try making a huge sheet of duct tape, cover the rain forests with it, and then watch all life die as a result.
Lvl WoW- duct tape someone to your chair and don't let them leave until you're leveled.
Feed You- duct tape a sandwich to your face. Hunger problem solved (although now you might have a slight breathing problem).
Take the Video Off- now why would you want to do a crazy thing like that? =)
